Cercle Brugge going into this season hoping to avoid the mistakes of the past two campaigns. After finishing in the bottom four twice, there are hopes that the club can turns things around under Danish head coach Lars Friis. He has a few new players to work with, but it does not appear that the side have done much to rectify their struggles up front. Perhaps Cercle Brugge are hoping for some internal growth from the strikers already on the books, or are still working on some new signings. They will once again be one of the youngest sides going into the new season.
Transfers in: Lazare Amani (Kifisia FC), Gaetan Coucke (Sampdoria)
Transfers out: Warleson (Botafogo), Nils De Wilde (Aalst), Beni Mpanzu (FC Dordrecht), Flavio ***** nho (Monaco)
Key player: Lazare Amani
He may be one of the few new signings, but the former Union St Gilloise man could be crucial for Cercle Brugge this season. In many ways, he is the replacement for Leandro Lopes who left a few seasons ago and was never really replaced. High energy and tough tackling at his best, if Amani can find his best form, he really could be a driving force for a young Cercle Brugge team in midfield.

Arsenal are moving towards one of the biggest Premier League transfers of the summer, with The Times reporting that the club are close to agreeing an £80m deal for Bruno Guimaraes from Newcastle United.
The Brazil international has long been admired by **** nal and this latest push appears to have real momentum. A personal agreement is already in place with the 28-year-old midfielder, while the broader package, including add-ons, is understood to be nearing completion. From **** nal's side, this looks like a strategic move completed with conviction, rather than a late-market gamble.
Guimaraes has established himself as one of the Premier League's most influential central midfielders, bringing authority in possession, personality in key moments and a level of control that top clubs value highly. **** nal's previous interest never truly disappeared, and the current situation has given them the opening they needed.
Newcastle, for their part, appear to have been preparing for this possibility. Talks over Botafogo midfielder Danilo as a potential replacement suggest succession planning is already under way. That context matters, particularly at a time when there is uncertainty around the managerial position after Eddie Howe informed the club that he wants to leave.

Manchester United have expressed an interest in signing Botafogo midfielder Danilo Santos this summer, according to the BBC. Man United want a new midfielder despite bringing both Andrey Santos and Youri Tielemans to the Old Trafford club. The Red Devils are now keeping tabs on Danilo, with Newcastle United also keen on bringing the former Nottingham Forest star back to the Premier League. The 25-year-old Brazil international made four appearances at the World Cup and Man United could do with his services as manager Michael Carrick eyes a specialist defensive midfielder.
Botafogo prefer to sell Danilo abroad after rejecting an offer of around £23 million, including bonuses from Verdao. The Man United target reportedly has a £17m clause for foreign clubs, which could be a big boost for the Red Devils and other European admirers. He played 50 Premier League games for the City Ground club before returning to Brazil in July 2025. Danilo has been impressing back home, with all his eight caps for Brazil thus far coming this year. His passing, relentlessness and the knack for being absolutely everywhere are some qualities of his which would come in handy at Man United.
The 6ft 2in midfielder is also physical, dynamic and technical, and he has what it takes to replace Casemiro at the Theatre of Dreams. Botafogo have also received offers of about £25m from Palmeiras and Zenit St Petersburg for Danilo, and more suitors could come calling. It is unknown whether Man United have plans to make a concrete move for him. They are exploring multiple options, including not signing another midfielder this summer, and fans will hope they make the right decisions.

Nenê will turn 45 next Sunday (19), the day the FIFA World Cup will come to an end.
And the “everlasting” midfielder once again showed that he is still making a difference.
After a stint as a reporter for CazéTV in the United States, he returned to Botafogo da Paraíba on Sunday (12) in style: he was involved in the first goal and helped set up the second in the 2-0 win over Confiança.
He started for Belo and, even in the 32nd minute of the second half, beat an opponent in a sprint before setting up Kayon:
The Red Star Black-and-Whites are currently sixth in Série C and are on course to qualify for the second phase.

Roma is monitoring several potential transfer prospects.
The Giallorossi's priority is to strengthen their attacking lineup, and the main candidates are Nicolò Tresoldi and Alejandro Garnacho.
A move to the winger position will also be needed, and Diego Moreira is highly sought after for this position.
Roma, however, are also keen to strengthen their second strings in other areas, and Danilo Santos is among the names being considered for midfield.
The 2001-born Brazilian is certainly familiar to European football fans for his time at Nottingham Forest, but in recent years he has played for Botafogo. Now, a return to Europe could be a real possibility for him: the Giallorossi face plenty of competition.

Newcastle United may have insisted that Bruno Guimaraes is not available for transfer this summer, but the club are reportedly preparing a contingency plan in case they are eventually forced to sell the midfielder.
Arsenal are continuing their efforts to add Guimaraes to their squad during this transfer window, and the Gunners believe they have several reasons to remain optimistic about completing a deal. One of those factors is the midfielder's reported willingness to hold talks and reach an agreement with the Gunners.
The Magpies regard Guimaraes as one of the most important players in their squad. However, having previously lost players such as Alexander Isak and Sandro Tonali, they understand that circumstances can change and are preparing for every possibility.
According to Sport Witness, Newcastle are considering a move for Danilo Santos from Botafogo if Guimaraes leaves before the transfer window closes.
The report states that **** nal are preparing to submit a significant formal offer for Guimaraes in the coming days. If the Brazilian departs, Newcastle view the former Nottingham Forest player as the preferred option to strengthen their midfield.

Newcastle United have opened talks with the representatives of Botafogo midfielder Danilo, according to Brazilian outlet O Globo. Newcastle manager Eddie Howe may need to replace ***** nal target Bruno Guimaraes, and the Toons want Danilo in his stead. The Magpies have made it clear to the camp of the former Nottingham Forest player that he is their top target should their current captain leave to join the Gunners. However, Newcastle have yet to table a formal offer to Botafogo.
Danilo is open to returning to Europe, and the 25- year-old Brazil international is not short of suitors. Russia club Zenit St. Petersburg are admirers of the Newcastle target, but he is not keen on joining them. He made 62 appearances for Forest before returning to Brazil last year, weighing in with six goals and four ***** ists. A broken leg on the opening day of the 2024-25 season saw him miss most of the campaign, and a return to England could appeal to him. Danilo made four appearances at the World Cup after ending last season with seven goals and two ***** ists in 12 league games for Botafogo.
