Empire Street Productions announced Monday that the musical "will no longer proceed as scheduled" in 2027, with the company to "retain the rights with a view to presenting the production in 2028."
The news follows word that Wicked co-stars Ariana Grande and Jonathan Bailey have dropped out of the production. Zac Thornton continued his excellent start to his career with the Mets on Monday night against the Atlanta Braves, allowing three earned runs in 6.1 innings of an eventual 14-3 win for New York.
The left-hander is now 2-1 with a 2.43 ERA (0.91 WHIP) in five starts and 29.2 innings pitched this season, and although he's a top pitching prospect in the Mets organization and just 24 years old, Thornton's repertoire doesn't include the typical blistering fastball and wicked secondary pitch that most young pitching prospects have.
Instead, Thornton relies mostly on a cutter that averages around 87 mph and his two-seam fastball that sits between 89-92 mph while mixing in a variety of other pitches, none of which get above 94 mph on a consistent basis.
Interim manager Andy Green admitted that it's not "the traditional way" that most front-line starters attack hitters in this day and age of high velocity and spin rate, but the results so far speak for themselves.
"It's good stuff," Green said about Thornton's ******* ortment of pitches. "We live in a world where we don't define stuff as good unless it's 95+ anymore and that's unfortunate because the cutter really is tough for righties to see and react to and the more you have to think about pitches coming in on your hands, the more you're gonna pull off of everything else that works away from you.

The Detroit Tigers continued to show just the slightest signs of life on Monday night as they notched a 5-3 victory over the New York Yankees to move within 10 games of .500. Every contest is essentially a must-win for the club if they want to get back in the American League Central race. Perhaps more importantly, they can only sustain a certain number of losses before the trade deadline until there's no choice but to deal Tarik Skubal.
Meanwhile the Yankees stayed atop the AL East despite the setback and are significantly less stressed. For proof, let's check in on Jazz Chisholm Jr. The second baseman made history by becoming the first player to play an MLB game with a lollipop in his mouth in Detroit, but that wasn't even the most entertaining moment he provided.
That came during the bottom of the fourth inning when he happened to notice a camera embedded in the infield dirt and stopped the game so he could get to the bottom of it. What resulted was pure cinema with the Tigers broadcast team of Jason Benetti and Andy Dirks providing some wonderful commentary from the perspective of the dirt cam.
The dirt cam has been doing the work of providing some awesome camera shots all year and this is the first time a player noticed it out on the playing field. It's perfectly understandable that Chisholm would prefer to play his position without concern a ball is going to take a wicked hop after some fancy hidden equipment. He also seemed to be having a good time with the whole thing, which one would suspect from the guy who ate a lollipop on the field.

Ariana Grande and Ethan Slater have ended their relationship after nearly three years together, according to US reports.
The couple separated "quietly" and in an "amicable" manner several months ago, a source told US magazine People.
"They gave lots of time and careful consideration and decided to go their separate ways," the source told the publication. "They are still friends and very supportive of one another."
The pair met while starring together in the film adaptation of Wicked. BBC News has asked Grande and Slater's representatives for comment.

A new campaign, called "The Martini Man," debuts globally on Tuesday across television, streaming, digital, social and experiential marketing and will run in Martini's top markets including the U.S., France, Spain, Italy and the United Kingdom.
The pair initially worked together in a June 2025 spot called "Off Script," which was filmed in Italy on the back end of a personal trip that Bailey had taken to the country. The actor and the brand reunited there again for the new spot, with the key theme prominently drawing on into Martini's Italian and aperitivo heritage. In recent years, consumers have been spending more on aperitivo drinks, which are relatively lighter in terms of alcohol by volume, aligning with preferences that have favored more moderation and daytime drinking occasions.
