NEW DELHI: There was a time when Auqib Nabi didn't own a pair of bowling spikes.

For his first U-19 trial in Jammu & Kashmir, the fast bowler from Baramulla borrowed a pair from a friend. When he eventually earned selection, fate threw up another twist. The friend who had lent him the spikes didn't make the squad. Auqib borrowed another pair from him and played his entire first U-19 tournament in borrowed shoes.

Today, Auqib is making a name for himself with a skill that many fast bowlers spend years trying to master: the ability to swing the ball both ways. He has now earned his maiden India call-up, with the 29-year-old seamer from Jammu & Kashmir replacing the injured Jasprit ******* rah in India's Test squad for the upcoming tour of Sri Lanka.

Nabi has picked up 104 wickets over the last two Ranji Trophy seasons, virtually breaking the selection door down with his performances. He was also part of the India A squad that toured Sri Lanka recently, where he claimed six wickets in two First Class matches.
Yet, the road to the Indian dressing room wasn't built in fancy academies or elite fast-bowling programmes. It was shaped by a long journey, borrowed equipment and an obsession with learning.

"My parents are government school teachers. Initially, they wanted me to focus on studies, which was natural. Cricket wasn't something we had planned. A friend told me about the Under-19 trials. Until then, I didn't even know they were happening," Auqib had told reporters after picking up a five-wicket haul on the opening day of the Delhi vs Jammu & Kashmir Ranji Trophy match at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in November 2025.

Like countless youngsters in Kashmir, his cricketing education began with tennis-ball matches. The transition to leather-ball cricket, however, brought a different challenge.
"The most basic thing a fast bowler needs is a turf wicket," he had said. "Baramulla had turf, but you couldn't bowl there wearing spikes. So I had to travel to Srinagar to practice."

The one-and-a-half-hour journey from Baramulla to Srinagar became part of his routine. Hours on the road simply to bowl a few overs on a proper surface. For many aspiring cricketers, inadequate facilities become a convenient excuse. Auqib never allowed himself that luxury.

"If you want to play for India, these things cannot become excuses. If you want it badly enough, you have to do it."
That philosophy continues to define him.

The philosophy kept motivating him day in and day out, but it was his obsession with learning that made him the bowler he is today.

"When he first joined the J&K team for the Buchi Babu Trophy in Salem in 2023, he could only bowl the outswinger. But he wanted to bowl both ways. So I started working on his inswing," P. Krishnakumar, Jammu & Kashmir's bowling coach, told TimesofIndia.com.

"He has a great wrist position, which is one of his biggest strengths," he said.
There were no shortcuts, and Nabi knew it. He started working on

The Toronto Blue Jays seemed to signal the team was giving up on the 2026 MLB season when it traded away top starter Kevin Gausman on Sunday. Turns out, the team's decision is less a tear down, and more a re-tooling, especially after it acquired starter José Soriano in a deal with the Los Angels Angels on Monday.
Soriano, 27, has a 3.29 ERA over 123 innings. In exchange for Soriano, the Blue Jays gave up shortstop prospect Arjun Nimmala, outfielder Eddie MIcheletti Jr. and pitcher Angel Rivero.
While the decision to acquire a major-league caliber pitcher a day after shipping another one out might seem confusing on the surface, there are a few factors that make it a reasonable exchange for the Blue Jays.
Gausman — while an incredibly important part of the franchise's resurgence — is old, declining and in the final year of his contract. He has his highest ERA since the 2019 season and may not have been in the Blue Jays' plans beyond 2026.
Soriano, on the other hand, is still very much in his prime and showed signs of growth earlier in the season. In 42 2/3 innings in April, he had a minuscule 0.84 ERA. That figure ballooned in both May and June, when he posted a 5.34 ERA over those two months, before Soriano settled back down in July to a far better 2.74 ERA.

Over the weekend, Trump claimed the club championship at his Bedminster Club in both the Senior and Super Senior divisions with a score of 70. However, given his lengthy history of apparent cheating, people were skeptical of the accomplishment.

Apple's June quarter produced numbers that looked solid on the surface but left investors with a question: Was September quarter guidance conservative, or was the business actually slowing?
Bank of America published its answer on July 30. The firm says investors are misreading the results and that the underlying business is stronger than the headline numbers show.
Bank of America ***** yst Wamsi Mohan reiterated his Buy rating on Apple and held his $380 price target. Apple's stock closed July 30 at $333.43, making the target roughly 14% above where shares ended the day. Mohan also raised his EPS estimates for the next three fiscal years, Investing.com reported.
Apple reported Q3 2026 revenue of $109.4 billion, up 16% from a year earlier. EPS came in at $2.02. Bank of America flagged that about $0.11 of that figure came from a tariff refund. Once you back that out, earnings were roughly in line with ***** yst projections. Apple met expectations. It did not clear them by a wide margin.

The estimated distance of "Cami's" fourth-inning solo shot to the left of center was pegged at 453 feet, the second longest in an 82-homer career through Saturday. There is no telling how far the ball might have sailed as it clanged off the D-ring hanging from the roof of Tropicana Field and 59 feet above the playing surface.
The blast was Caminero's 75th since the start of last season, which was his first full season in the big leagues. It was also his 30th home run of 2026, good for second in the American League. It also snapped a 12-game homer drought, which is his longest of the past two years and second longest of his career behind a 15-gamer in September 2024 that began a couple of weeks after he called up from Triple-A Durham.
Reaching the 30-homer mark may not in and of itself raise eyebrows a year after Caminero hit 45. Consider, though, that there are two months and 50-plus games remaining on the schedule. Hence, it is easy to see how another 40-plus homer season could be in order.

The San Francisco 49ers on Saturday officially announced the signing of wide receiver Deebo Samuel. In a corresponding move the 49ers placed WR Ricky Pearsall on season-ending IR as he deals with complications from the PCL injury he sustained last season.
Reports first surfaced Thursday of the reunion between the 49ers and their 2019 second-round pick one year after trading him to the Washington Commanders. Samuel had a visit with the 49ers on Friday according to the NFL's transaction wire. Now he's put pen to paper on a one-year contract that could pay him up to $7 million.
It appears based on wide receiver Jacob Cowing's switch from No. 19 to No. 6 that Samuel will be back in his original jersey number when he suits up for the red and gold.
As for his role? That remains to be seen as the team navigates the preseason.
The 49ers would ideally have Samuel work in as a third receiver behind veteran Mike Evans and rookie WR De'Zhaun Stribling who has drawn praise from Evans and quarterback Brock Purdy early in camp. If Stribling can get up to speed quickly enough to be the team's No. 2 WR, it paves the way for Samuel to fit in as a third WR where he can be deployed in ways that maximize his skill set.

Following recent reports from Kings insider James Ham, speculation has surfaced regarding Zach LaVine's future in Sacramento. If he were to negotiate a buyout with the Kings, he'd have plenty of suitors, a list that could include Golden State.
Given his high-volume 3-point shooting, LaVine would make a great pair in Steve Kerr's offense next to Stephen Curry in a similar role to Klay Thompson, an accurate 3-point shooter who thrived in 11 seasons with the Warriors. Last year, LaVine made just 39 appearances, averaging 19.2 points, 2.8 rebounds, 2.3 ***** ists and 0.7 steals. LaVine's 19.2 points per game were his lowest output since the 2017-18 season, his first with the Chicago Bulls.
However, LaVine's shooting ability has remained throughout his career, as the 31-year-old holds an average of 39.1% from beyond the arc on six attempts per game. That said, it would take strong convincing for LaVine to land with the Warriors if he were bought out, as many other contenders (Detroit and Miami) could provide him with a better chance to win. Golden State's strongest selling point may be their proximity to LaVine's current home in Sacramento.

Meta Platforms Inc (NASDAQ:META) may spend more than $62 billion with CoreWeave Inc. (NASDAQ:CRWV) and Nebius Group (NASDAQ:NBIS), then offer customers a version of the same service. Its CoreWeave agreements include an initial commitment of up to $14.2 billion and a further $21 billion deal announced on April 9. Nebius has a $12 billion capacity contract with Meta, plus a commitment for up to $15 billion of additional capacity if Nebius cannot sell it elsewhere. Adding those amounts produces $62.2 billion, although the last $15 billion is conditional.
On July 1, Reuters cited a Bloomberg report that Meta Platforms Inc (NASDAQ:META) was developing a cloud business to sell spare AI capacity. It could rent raw computing power, charge developers to use models hosted on Meta's infrastructure, or do both. Meta declined to comment, and the plans were described as subject to change. CoreWeave fell 10.8%, and Nebius dropped 12.4% after the report.

The existing contracts run into 2031 and 2032, so opening a Meta cloud service would not suddenly remove billions of dollars from either provider's backlog. In fact, the contracts show how far Meta remains from supplying all of its own computing needs. Pressure on CoreWeave Inc. (NASDAQ:CRWV) and Nebius Group (NASDAQ:NBIS) would show up when Meta negotiates its next block of capacity. A Meta with surplus infrastructure could buy less from the neoclouds, demand better terms, or compete for some of their customers. Renting GPUs is also easier to commoditize than the software and managed services built around them. CoreWeave and Nebius will have to prove customers are paying for more than temporary access to scarce chips.
Investors were already arguing over that durability before Meta's reported plan surfaced. Insider Monkey's CRWV Q1 2026 database counted 63 hedge funds holding the stock as of March 31. For a company that had been public for only a year, that is meaningful long-side interest. It is also stale for this particular debate because the filing date came before both the $21 billion expansion and the July cloud report.

In part, the nostalgia tour is a goodwill campaign for the biggest deal in the company's history.
On the business itself, Union Pacific Corporation (NYSE:UNP) reported a strong quarter. Revenue rose 12% to $6.86 billion, beating the $6.71 billion expected, and adjusted earnings came in at $3.41 a share versus $3.24 expected. The company raised its full-year guidance to high-single-digit earnings growth, up from mid-single digits. The stock rose about 2% in premarket trading. Costs rose too; operating expenses climbed 13% to $4.1 billion, mostly from a 63% jump in fuel costs linked to the Iran war.
Union Pacific Corporation (NYSE:UNP) is trying to buy Norfolk Southern in a deal now valued around $71.5 billion, down from an earlier $85 billion price tag as terms have moved with Union Pacific's stock. It would create the first coast-to-coast U.S. railroad. The day before earnings, Union Pacific settled with Canadian National Railway, a major opponent that had been pushing regulators to demand more information. CN will drop its opposition in exchange for expanded Midwest access and a stake in two jointly owned terminal railroads. Vena called it proof the firm is "ready to move forward in the regulatory process." The deal still isn't approved, though. The Surface Transportation Board (STB) paused its review in May and just this week ordered Union Pacific to make employee-impact data public. Rivals BNSF and Canadian Pacific Kansas City are still lobbying against it, and some shippers and state attorneys general remain opposed. The companies still expect to close the deal in the first half of 2027.
That raises a real question. Is this merger clearing its last real hurdles, or did the CN settlement just remove one opponent out of several?
The core business (Union Pacific's actual railroad operations) is performing well on its own, guidance beat and rose, and pricing power held up despite surging fuel costs. The CN settlement removes a credible opponent and comes with political tailwinds too: Trump has publicly backed the merger and replaced a regulator who could have opposed it. Union Pacific Corporation (NYSE:UNP) and Norfolk Southern say the deal would save shippers $3.5 billion a year and remove 2.1 million trucks from the road. Wall Street responded fast: Baird, RBC, and JPMorgan all raised price targets this week, with RBC citing the CN deal directly as strengthening the merger's case.

It did not take long on the C.H. Robinson second quarter earnings call with ***** ysts late Wednesday for the subject to switch away from a strong financial performance in the quarter to the fallout from its more than $600 million nuclear verdict handed down in a Texas courtroom last week.
While there might have been some speculation that CEO Dave Bozeman and other members of the management team might have cited "ongoing litigation" as a reason to not discuss the Dallas County case of Lipe vs. Lupus Superior, with C.H. Robinson also as a defendant, Bozeman addressed it in his opening remarks, and numerous questions from ***** ysts were all answered with the same reply: our behavior was proper and we're confident this verdict will not stand.
That message on Lipe vs. Lupus Superior ultimately became likely the most-discussed topic of the phone call, though Michael Castagnetto, the president of North American Surface Transportation, was able to make his core point at least twice about the company's core brokerage operations: it has now been 13 quarters where volume growth at C.H. Robinson outstripped the benchmark volume numbers published by Cass Information Systems.
Bozeman introduced his remarks on Lipe vs. Lupus Superior by referring to the "evolving legal environment regarding trucking accidents," which he described as "tragic, and every loss of life on our nation's highways is one too many."

Information surrounding the car accident involving San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan has been hard to come by. NFL insiders have revealed the extent of Shanahan's injuries, and Shanahan has accepted responsibility for the accident, but further details have not surfaced.
And don't expect them to be.
Shanahan suffered a severe concussion, a broken left hand/wrist, a broken nose, three fractured ribs, and deep facial lacerations in the accident, with good friend Chris Simms saying the head coach nearly lost his eye.

That's the extent of the public's knowledge about Shanahan's accident, and the Palo Alto Police Department will not be releasing any more. According to TMZ Sports, the bodycam footage and 911 call from the accident are "exempt from disclosure" under the California Public Records Act.

CBS Sports placed Tony Romo on leave Friday morning, "until further notice," in its first public statement since his OWI arrest in Milwaukee last week
"Tony Romo is on leave from his role at CBS Sports until further notice," the network said in a statement.
Awful Announcing has learned that JJ Watt will join Jim Nantz and Tracy Wolfson as the network's lead NFL broadcast team during Romo's absence, with CBS set to release the rest of its NFL on CBS roster at a later date.
Boomer Esiason told his radio audience barely a day earlier that he didn't expect CBS to comment on the situation at all, a read that lined up with how the network had handled things all week. The Daily Mail had reported days earlier that CBS executives had already closed ranks around Romo, with one source telling the outlet, "I don't want to act like it's not a big deal, because it is. But it's not going to get him fired." A second characterized the arrest as a "lapse in judgment" rather than anything approaching a fireable offense, noting Romo had reached out to his bosses almost the moment it happened.
Romo was pulled over on Interstate 43 in Milwaukee County on the night of July 23, hours after competing in the Wisconsin Amateur Championship, and taken into custody after performing poorly on standardized field sobriety tests. Body camera footage of the stop later surfaced on TMZ, including Romo's own reaction to the test results.

What started with a critique of track surfaces blew up into a fine, a point reduction, and ultimately, one of the region's top drivers planning an exit from the sport in the prime of his career.
"Nothing's final yet," Hastings said when asked if there's any chance he races again this season. "I'd say I'm for sure going to take a couple of weeks off here, because I feel that's what I need. . . just relax and then see how I feel after that. Right now, I don't necessarily want to race too bad. I think that's why I need some time to figure it out. In a couple weeks, if I feel different, we'll probably go to Huset's once or twice and maybe Cedar Lake in Wisconsin at the end of the year."

Some stock drops look like bad news on the surface. Some are, yes, but some also tell a completely different story underneath.
And I think American Express (AXP) investors have been handed the latter. The payments giant beat earnings expectations, raised its full-year revenue guidance, and reported its strongest card member spending growth in three years. The stock fell anyway.
This kind of reaction can frustrate shareholders and even confuse casual observers. But for "Mad Money" host Jim Cramer, it's a pattern he's seen before, and one he thinks is creating a clear opening.
I think it's a terrific opportunity in one of the best-run companies on earth.
American Express CEO Steve Squeri echoed that confidence in the company's Q2 2026 earnings statement, noting: "Six months into the year, we're seeing stronger momentum than we expected."
