Capital One (COF) paid $390M for failing to flag money laundering, then faced suit for closing Trump-linked accounts; JPMorgan (JPM) faces a similar lawsuit.
Fewer than 1% of over 8,000 CFPB debanking complaints alleged political bias, yet federal programs like Operation Choke Point cut off entire industries.
FinCEN withdrew two proposed crypto reporting rules, but compliance teams will stay cautious until courts rule on banks' right to close any account freely.

American banks are caught between two kinds of punishment. If they miss dirty money, regulators fine them. If they flag it and close the account, they get sued for debanking. Capital One (NYSE:COF) has paid on both sides, and its record shows which way the pressure is moving.

A fresh report claims that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's new neighbors continue to voice complaints. This news follows reports that the Sussexes' Montecito neighbors are pleased about their move to the U.K. The pair have now apparently moved to a private estate in England's Cotswolds for an extended period.
Meghan Markle is reportedly facing complaints from Cotswolds residents, with a royal commentator claiming neighbors have raised several issues about her and Prince Harry.
Daily Beast editor-at-large Tom Sykes reported that the ***** ss recently visited Soho Farmhouse for afternoon tea with a companion. For those unfamiliar, it is a private members-only retreat featuring cabins, dining options, and various activities, as well as gym and spa facilities. She also reportedly visited a farm shop with bodyguards by her side, per the Daily Express.
The matter resurfaced on Vanessa Feltz's "At Home With Vanessa" podcast. The British broadcaster told her guests that she learned there were "tempers" and requests for "certain treatment" from Markle during her visit to Soho Farmhouse.
Journalist Daisy McAndrew echoed similar reports. She said, "I happen to be in a WhatsApp group of the village that is next to Soho. So I have a house that we rent out there and I can tell you that that WhatsApp group has been absolutely alive and buzzing with complaints."

Naomi Campbell has won her legal appeal against a five-year ban from being a charity trustee.
A ruling from a tribunal on Thursday found that the misuse of funds in the charity "were concealed" from Campbell by a fellow trustee.
The supermodel founded Fashion for Relief in 2005 to help victims of Hurricane Katrina, with the charity raising funds for humanitarian causes through runway shows.
The charity closed in 2023 and was removed from the Charity Commission's register in 2024 following complaints of "serious mismanagement and/or misconduct," with Campbell being banned as a trustee for five years.
It found widespread mismanagement of funds, including money raised for good causes spent on luxury hotels and room service when Campbell was staying near Cannes in the south of France in May 2018.
Campbell, 56, appealed the ban, claiming that she had no knowledge the funds had been used in this way and had been deceived by another trustee about the unauthorised payments.

WASHINGTON (AP) — The Trump administration is stripping tens of millions of dollars in U.S. military ******* istance from countries in Europe and the Middle East to support conservative-leaning governments in Central and South America.
The State Department on Tuesday notified Congress that it will reprogram $52 million in foreign military financing from Slovakia, North Macedonia, Tunisia and Iraq to Panama, Peru, Ecuador and Colombia.
Secretary of State Marco Rubio visited Colombia, Ecuador and Peru last week and pledged to them additional support as the Trump administration has prioritized the Western Hemisphere in its foreign policy with an emphasis on combating drug trafficking and illegal immigration.
It is just the latest in a series of moves that have reduced either money or troop deployments to Europe in response to President Donald Trump's complaints about NATO allies not spending enough on their defense budgets and other matters. Both North Macedonia and Slovakia are NATO members.
But it also comes as the administration has put particular attention on the Western Hemisphere, aligning deeply with right-wing governments as Trump celebrates a renewal of the 19th century Monroe Doctrine establishing Washington's dominance in the Americas.

The Braves had 'em all the way. Yep, had 'em all the way. At least, that's what we'll tell ourselves whenever a scintilla of a memory of this game pops into our brains, right? It took 12 innings, a brief blip from Chris Sale, and run-scoring scrambles in the ninth, tenth, and eleventh, another huuuuge hit from Ha-Seong Kim, and finally, a walkoff rope off the bat of Drake Baldwin, but the Braves ultimately prevailed in the opener of the final series against their division rivals.
How do you recap this game? It felt like living a few different lifetimes. I guess we'll just go sequentially, but this is a game that warrants watching the highlights.
After a 45-minute weather-related delay, things got started and Sale pretty much picked up where he left off. The top of the Philadelphia order went down on a flyout and two nasty strikeouts. Aaron Nola retired the first two Braves he faced, but then Matt Olson broke a two-week homerless slide with a slice the other way that juuust managed not to go foul and instead became his 38th longball of the year. A homer from the recently homer-shy Braves offense seemed to be an auspicious sign, but things quickly took a turn for the worse.
After the first two outs of the eighth, Edmundo Sosa caught a Sale slider and yanked it for a single. Sale then issued a rare walk to Bryan De La Cruz of all people, and then hit J.T. Realmuto with the next pitch, loading the bases.

Identity theft can happen to anyone. Scammers don't discriminate, but did you know freezing your credit can help protect your ******* ets?
Unfortunately, this type of crime is on the rise. In 2025, a total of 31,675 official identity theft complaints were recorded by the FBI — a 47% increase since 2024. Personal data breaches are also a major issue with 67,456 reported in 2025.
Maybe you've already had personal data stolen or perhaps you want to proactively fight against it. Either way, keep reading to learn more about the credit freezing loophole ******* ody talks about.
When your credit is frozen, no new accounts can be opened in your name, according to the Federal Trade Commission (FTC). It can stay in place as long as you wish and it's completely free.
During this time your credit will essentially be on lockdown. Even you won't be able to perform activities like applying for new credit, allowing a potential employer to run a credit background check or authorizing a landlord to run a credit check for a new apartment. However, you can temporarily lift the freeze for these actions.

Saturday evening brought big news: Vikings legend Harrison Smith, who never officially announced his retirement, is coming back for a 15th season with the franchise that drafted him in the first round back in 2012.
The fan reaction to that news has been almost entirely positive. Smith is an all-time great who has played at a high level across several different eras of Vikings football. About a month into this season, he'll pass Carl Eller and Fred ****** to move into third on the franchise's games played leaderboard, trailing only Jim Marshall and Mick Tingelhoff. He's an obvious Ring of Honor lock with a real chance to end up in the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
And Smith's return isn't just about legacy. With his experience and instincts and communication abilities in Brian Flores' check-heavy defense, Smith is a big addition to the Vikings' roster right now, even at 37 years old. He can clearly still play, as we saw in his dominant performance against the Lions last Christmas Day.
Amidst the excitement, there have been a few Vikings fans who have pushed back. Their specific complaints have to do with the contract the team gave Smith for his 15th season. It's a one-year, $12.25 million deal that has incentives up to $16.25 million if Minnesota wins the Super Bowl. For some, that price tag is too steep for a 37-year-old safety.
There were enough of those tweets that a former longtime teammate of Smith's took notice. Anthony Barr, a first-round pick two years after Smith who played alongside him for nine seasons, took to X/Twitter to put those fans on blast late on Saturday night after a couple posts about his UCLA Bruins' Week 1 win over Cal.

And one of the main figures was referee Davi de Oliveira Lacerda from Espírito Santo, who had an unusual moment with Canobbio.
Find out what happened below.
Vasco had total control of the action for much of the first half.

Meghan Markle is reportedly making plans for her possible return to the UK, with her lifestyle brand 'As Ever' potentially playing a key role. A source cited by Heat World revealed more about what the **** ss of Sussex hopes to achieve in Britain.
Meghan may also be gearing up for a new wine to coincide with her return to the UK, reports Heat World. A picture posted on 'As Ever's' social media showed a cork alongside the caption, "Something sparkling is on its way next month."
The source claimed that the **** ss hopes her wider product range will appeal to the "English sensibility." The source said, "Not that her jam is the only focus; she's been on a big push with her wine lately and believes there is big market potential for it in Britain."
The insider pointed to the existing demand for high-quality California wines in Britain, adding that Meghan's wine is "very reasonably priced" compared to other wines, especially the Napa rosé.
According to Heat World's source, Meghan still appreciates aspects of British life despite her reported frustrations with England.
"For all her complaints about England, there is still a lot that she loves about it," the insider claimed, adding that she sees the UK as a place where people "do an awful lot of entertaining" and have "a real passion about doing things to a high standard."

Kevin Sorbo does not regret leaving California.
After the Hercules: The Legendary Journeys actor, 67, traded Hollywood for the Sunshine State seven years ago, the MAGA supporter told Fox News in an interview Sunday that part of the reason he left California was that he was "canceled" due to his political beliefs as a conservative Christian — but he had other complaints too.
Sorbo told the right-wing outlet that although he misses the weather, his old house and his local golf course, three factors keep him from returning to the Golden State.
"I mean, here in Florida, yeah, we get five months of pretty high humidity," the Andromeda star acknowledged. "It's pretty hot, but the winters here are really quite amazing. But yeah, there are things I miss, but they can keep their taxes, they can keep their traffic, and they can keep their negativity, I'm done."
He went on to say that Florida has given him more "acceptance" since he relocated with his family.

Sept 1 (Reuters) - UnitedHealth's insurance unit said on Tuesday that a broad range of conditions will no ‌longer need prior approval, effective October 1, as ‌it aims to eliminate prior authorization for 30% of healthcare services by the end of this year.
Here are the details:
• The reduction spans a broad mix of services across multiple clinical specialties, including cardiology, genetic and laboratory testing, chiropractic care, physical, occupational ‌and speech therapy, orthopedic and musculoskeletal procedures, among others.
• The prior authorization requirements are being eliminated across its commercial plans, Medicare Advantage for older adults and individual insurance under the Affordable Care Act, also known as Obamacare, and some other types of plans.
• Health insurers have been taking measures to ‌simplify their requirements for prior authorization on medicines and medical services after complaints from patients and doctors over excessive paperwork that can delay or even deny needed care.

A father in Palo Alto, California, is declaring a victory in court after a federal judge allowed a civil rights lawsuit alleging anti-Asian bias in college admissions to move forward.
Nan Zhong and his son, Stanley Zhong, filed federal lawsuits against several elite institutions, including the University of California system, the University of Washington, the University of Michigan and Cornell University. The complaints allege the universities engaged in "racially discriminatory admissions practices that disadvantage highly qualified Asian-American applicants."
One of their cases will now proceed in part against the University of Washington after a federal judge granted the university defendants' motion to dismiss in part and denied it in part.
"We got an exciting ruling from the judge," Nan Zhong told Fox News Digital. "Effectively, the judge ruled in our favor by denying the university's motion to dismiss. So, this is a major development in the lawsuit. That means the judge found enough factual allegations to support our allegation."

On August 21, 2026, Bloomberg reported that Walmart Inc. (NASDAQ:WMT) will accept Apple Pay and Google Pay across all its U.S. stores and Sam's Club locations by the end of 2026, ending a years-long holdout. The rollout begins August 24 at select locations, with fuel stations gaining the capability by mid-2027.
Walmart had previously relied on its own proprietary Walmart Pay system, preferring QR-code technology that gave it more control over transaction data, rather than supporting near-field communication wallets like Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL)'s Apple Pay. Customers will be able to tap contactless cards, phones, or smartwatches at checkout and add Walmart, Sam's Club, or OnePay cards to their digital wallets.
For Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL), this closes one of the last major gaps in Apple Pay's retail coverage. More than 90% of U.S. retailers already accept Apple Pay, and the service holds roughly 92% market share among U.S. mobile wallets, according to Capital One data. Adding the nation's largest retailer removes one of the most visible remaining holdouts. It reinforces Apple Pay's position as the default mobile wallet at checkout.
Apple Pay's user base gives this rollout real reach from day one: Capital One estimates Apple Pay usership is on pace to grow from 70 million to more than 84 million users over the next four years. Walmart Inc. (NASDAQ:WMT)'s enormous foot traffic with an existing and growing user base gives Apple immediate transaction volume without needing to win over new wallet users.
Walmart is fixing something that annoyed shoppers, but they aren't giving up on their own payment tools. Walmart wants customers to have a choice in how they pay, and Tap to Pay adds to, rather than replaces, cash, credit cards, and Walmart Pay. Reducing checkout friction and consumer complaints matters more now that agentic and NFC payments have become standard shopping behavior.

A town's businesses have said they will "suffer massively" if they are forced to strip the streets outside their shops of displays and signage.
Hampshire County Council told traders in Lymington's cobbled Quay Street they must remove such items by Friday, or contractors could remove them instead.
The move follows three anonymous complaints made on 15 July, relating to items outside Quayside Fish Hut, Out of the Blue and Lymington Mobiles.
A Hampshire County Council spokesperson said it was responsible for keeping pavements and verges "safe and accessible for everyone".
It also said items such as advertising boards could narrow footways, block access and create hazards.

House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan, R-Ohio, is warning that subpoenas are on the table if county prosecutors accused of going easy on illegal immigrants who commit crimes do not cooperate.
Jordan's committee is investigating district attorneys for so-called "sanctuary jurisdictions" who have been accused of taking immigration status into account when pursuing criminal complaints, even when the alleged crime has nothing to do with the suspect's legal status.
"If we have to, we'll use subpoenas to get the documents that we think they may not be giving us. There's a process we always go through. We ask for things, we ask again, we explain why, we work with their office — in some cases their counsel — and back and forth," Jordan explained in an interview with Fox News Digital. "And then if we have to use subpoenas, we certainly will do that ... but we want to know the facts."
Doj Opens Investigation Into Soros-backed Da Accused Of Shielding Illegal Immigrants From Consequences
Of particular concern, Jordan said, is Fairfax County, Virginia, DA Steve Descano. Descano was recently thrust under scrutiny after the stabbing death of 41-year-old U.S. citizen Stephanie Minter, whose accused killer came to the U.S. illegally from Sierra Leone in 2012.

Nicole Kidman joined Sandra Bullock for the Practical Magic 2 London photocall, held inside the Ballroom at Claridge's this morning.
Kate Green/Getty Images
Wearing her second Chanel look of the press tour, Nicole kept things considerably simpler in this black LBD.
The pearl straps are the defining detail, and one that immediately connects the dress to the house. Pearls have been part of the Chanel vocabulary since Coco Chanel began layering ropes of faux pearls with her clothes in the 1920s, and they remain one of the label's most recognisable signatures. Here, they give an otherwise straightforward black dress its Chanel identity.
And then we come to the shoes. You know Chanel footwear and I don't always see eye to eye, but I have no complaints about these two-tone slingbacks as they give the simple LBD the graphic punch it needed.

Alvotech (NASDAQ:ALVO) extended its winning streak to a 5th consecutive day on Monday, jumping 18.51 percent to finish at $5.25 apiece, after the Bank of America (BofA) raised its price target for the company.
In its recent coverage, BofA initiated a buy recommendation on Alvotech shares with a price target of $7, amid the closure of the inspection of its manufacturing facility in Iceland, alongside progress in the commercialization of two of its drug candidates in the US and Asia.
The coverage followed the Food and Drug Administration's (FDA) voluntary closure of its inspection of Alvotech's (NASDAQ:ALVO) manufacturing facility in Reykjavik, Iceland, over several practices at its plant in Reykjavik, such as handling of complaints, subpar contamination prevention procedures, and poor quality and purity vetting, among others.
"This is an important milestone for Alvotech and reflects the significant work our teams have undertaken to further strengthen our quality systems and manufacturing operations," CEO Lisa Graver said.
"With the conclusion of the FDA's recent inspection, we are confident that the actions we have taken have effectively addressed the observations identified. We continue to work with the FDA to advance our recent Biologics License Applications towards approval," she noted.

WASHINGTON (AP) — A legal watchdog says it filed bar complaints on Tuesday accusing U.S. Attorney Jeanine Pirro and two lieutenants of violating their ethical duties in seeking to charge six Democratic lawmakers with federal crimes for appearing in a video that called on troops to resist unlawful orders.
The Legal Accountability Center's bar complaints, filed in New York and Virginia, claim Pirro and her subordinates, Carlton Davis and Steven Vandervelden, abused their prosecutorial powers to seek "meritless" indictments against President Donald Trump's "perceived political enemies."
Tim Lauer, a spokesperson for Pirro's Washington-based office, noted that it's a grand jury's job — not prosecutors' — to decide whether to hand up an indictment.
"Attempting to weaponize the disciplinary process against prosecutors for doing their jobs amounts to nothing more than a frivolous complaint," Lauer said in a statement.
In February, a grand jury in Washington refused to indict Sens. Mark Kelly and Elissa Slotkin and four House Democrats for urging U.S. service members to follow established military protocols and reject orders they believe to be unlawful. All six lawmakers previously served in the military or at intelligence agencies. Trump accused them of sedition "punishable by DEATH" in a social media post.

It did not end the way the Chicago Bears had hoped, but starting quarterback Caleb Williams was able to get his first preseason action on Saturday night against the Cincinnati Bengals, fresh off the heels of a joint practice on Thursday.
The Bears ended up losing the game against the Bengals, 27-9, after putting up a sloppy effort on both sides of the ball. There were a lot of penalties and that was Williams' main complaint about the game.
"It felt good and smooth out there, no complaints other than needing to avoid penalties," Williams said. "When we get penalties, it's my job and the other guys' job to get us back in position to help Ben (Johnson) out. There aren't many calls for second- or third-and-20, so we just need to do a better job with that. But it was good getting back into game mode."
Williams completed two passes in this game -- the first to wide receiver Rome Odunze for 18 yards and the second to tight end Colston Loveland for 10 yards -- on five attempts for 28 yards. He also had a completion to running back Roschon Johnson that did not count due to an illegal contact penalty against the Bengals.
Chicago's starters got all the way down to Cincinnati's 17-yard line before a holding penalty against left tackle Braxton Jones set them back 10 yards. They were not able to overcome that penalty and had to settle for a 45-yard field goal from kicker Cairo Santos. It was Santos' first of three field goals in the game; he also missed a 53-yard field goal.

On August 11, Vestis (NYSE:VSTS) reported fiscal third-quarter results that mark a turning point for a company that has spent its short public life trying to prove its uniform and workplace supply business can actually get more profitable, not just bigger. Adjusted EBITDA climbed to about $81 million, up roughly $15 million or 23% year over year, and for the first time since the company separated from Aramark, revenue per pound rose instead of fell. That single shift, small as it sounds, is the thread running through the entire quarter.
The headline number is revenue per pound, which reached $1.42 in the quarter, up $0.04 year over year and $0.05 sequentially. Management framed this as the first year-over-year increase in that metric since Vestis became a public company, driven by disciplined pricing, better customer segmentation, and a deliberate shift away from lower-margin linen volume, which fell 6% year over year on a pounds-processed basis. Vestis also let go of about 22 million pounds of volume that carried an average revenue per pound of just $0.55, meaning the business got smaller but higher quality at the same time.
Cost of services dropped about $15 million year over year, and SG&A fell roughly $7 million, or about 6%, while cost per pound held flat at $1.24 even as the company exited unprofitable business. Plant productivity rose 9% year over year, on-time delivery improved 80 basis points, and customer complaints fell 74 basis points, evidence that the operational cleanup is showing up in day-to-day service, not just the income statement. Net income swung to $11 million from a $0.7 million loss a year earlier, and the company raised its full-year free cash flow guidance to a range of $160 million to $170 million, up from $120 million to $150 million previously.
The improvement comes against a backdrop that still looks shaky in places. Total revenue for the quarter was about $662 million, down 1.8% year over year, and pounds processed fell 4.5% as Vestis kept shedding volume it didn't want. Net debt stood at $1.2 billion at quarter-end, with $1.1 billion of principal bank debt outstanding, and the company used quarterly cash flow to pay down just $30 million of term loan debt.
Management also acknowledged that the operational playbook it has been running is not producing uniform results, describing a meaningful gap between its strongest and weakest markets that it now plans to address with more customized, market-by-market execution rather than a one-size-fits-all approach. Full-year revenue guidance remains flat to down 2%, and the company disclosed it is accruing a management incentive bonus for the first time at this level since going public, a cost that is already embedded in guidance but still subject to year-end certification. None of this derails the quarter's progress, but it is a reminder that Vestis is still mid-turnaround, not finished with it.

The organisers of the Edmonton Marathon have admitted the course measured more than half a kilometre too long for the 2026 edition.
The annual event in Alberta, Canada is often used as a qualifier for the prestigious Boston Marathon.
But a number of frustrated runners voiced concerns online after the race, noting that the distance on their GPS running watches was over 26.22 miles.
Organisers initially dismissed complaints but in a statement on Wednesday, they admitted an extra 674.7 metres (0.41 miles) was mistakenly added to the course.
Race director Tom Keogh said: "We do not take this lightly. We hosted the nation's best athletes and their finishing times did not truly reflect their amazing performances."

Miami running back Jordan Lyle was estimated to be driving 130 mph while attempting to flee a traffic stop in South Florida last month, according to a probable cause affidavit released on Tuesday, via the Miami Herald.
Lyle was arrested last week on charges of aggravated fleeing and eluding law enforcement, each of which are felony complaints in Florida. He is also facing a misdemeanor complaint of reckless driving.
He turned himself into the Sunrise Police Department on Thursday after an arrest warrant was issued. He was then released on bond that same day.
According to the report, Lyle was spotted driving north on the Sawgrass Expressway shortly after 7 p.m. on July 10 and was clocked by an officer driving 92 mph. The speed limit in the area is just 65 mph. When the officer tried to pull Lyle over, Lyle allegedly sped up and got to as fast as 130 mph while making "rapid, abrupt and unsafe lane changes to maneuver between vehicles." At one point, Lyle allegedly made a U-turn from a through lane after exiting the expressway.
Eventually, the officer turned off his lights and sirens and let him go to avoid further danger. An investigation later determined that the car was registered to Lyle, and it was linked to him via his parents' home surveillance system. Police spoke to Lyle via FaceTime on July 15, and he arrived at the police department with a lawyer to give a sworn statement later that day.

WASHINGTON, Aug 14 (Reuters) - A South Florida site backed out of hosting a rally with Democratic U.S. Representative Rashida Tlaib, a vocal critic ‌of Israel's government, after complaints by a Democratic state lawmaker in the ‌party's latest flashpoint over its stance on Israel.
Tlaib, the first Palestinian American member of Congress, was scheduled to appear on Friday at a rally for three candidates in Florida's upcoming Democratic Party primary.
However, The Venue Fort Lauderdale, which was scheduled to host the event, suddenly canceled it after State Representative Michael Gottlieb, chairman of the Florida Legislative Jewish ‌Caucus, posted a statement on Thursday calling the planned rally an "anti-Jew" gathering.
Tlaib has condemned antisemitism and says criticism of Israel's occupation of Palestinian territories and its attacks in Gaza and Lebanon is not antisemitic.
The Venue in a statement cited "increased security concerns" for its decision and said it is Jewish-owned and "our values and commitment to the Jewish community are deeply important to us."
