MADISON, Ill. (AP) — Joey Logano secured the pole position Saturday for NASCAR's postseason race at World Wide Technology Raceway, positioning himself for a needed boost in the championship Chase.
Logano posted a lap of 32.817 seconds on the 1 1/4-mile oval in suburban St. Louis that features tight turns at the south end and flat, sweeping turns on the north side. He averaged 137.124 mph and his No. 22 Ford was 0.276 seconds faster than Kyle Larson.
"We've got some good momentum on our side here recently," said Logano, who has won twice in his last seven races to climb to eighth in the point standings. "We've had some good cars. We've done a good job. We've put ourselves back in the talks of racing for a championship.
"We may be the underdogs, but we're very used to that. That's where we live, and we feel we got a shot to do it."
The three-time Cup Series champion won the inaugural Cup race at World Wide Technology Raceway on his way to the 2022 championship and has finished in the top five each of the past three years. He will also have the first pit stall Sunday, a key advantage on the second-narrowest pit road of the season.

What channel is Georgia Tech vs. Colorado on? Time, TV schedule, live stream to watch Thursday college football originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
Deion Sanders begins Year 4 at Colorado in the city where he became a legend, as the Buffaloes face Georgia Tech in Atlanta on Thursday.
Sanders played for the Falcons and Braves in the early 1990s, a rare two-sport star in the pros, and remains an iconic figure in Atlanta sports history. Though his legacy could earn him a warm welcome at Bobby Dodd Stadium, that nostalgia won't do much for the Buffs as they try to bounce back from a 3-9 season.
Second-year quarterback Julian Lewis, who starred down the road at Carrollton High School, will lead a Colorado offense that loaded up with transfers in the offseason. That includes receivers Kam Perry (Miami Ohio), DeAndre Moore Jr. (Texas) and Danny Scudero (San Jose State), who are among 43 transfers on the roster.
Speaking of transfers, the Yellow Jackets will roll out a high-profile pair in QB Alberto Mendoza, late of Indiana and brother of the 2025 Heisman Trophy winner, and former Michigan and Alabama running back Justice Haynes, who grew up in suburban Atlanta. Whatever happens there, things figure to look quite a bit different for Tech after Haynes King held down the QB position the last three years.

Here are five high school games/sporting events to watch out for this week:
This is always one of the top early-season invitationals, including Crestwood, Field, Garfield, Southeast and Streetsboro out of Portage County. The Rockets boys and Red Devils girls are coming off team ****** les at last week's Billy Goat Challenge. Streetsboro had three runners in the top 11 of the boys race: senior Ares Miller (fifth, 18:41.59), sophomore Preston Krzeminski (ninth, 19:11.16) and sophomore Ryan Haber (11th, 19:14.72). Crestwood had two in the top four of the girls race, seniors Piper Seibold (second, 20:47.77) and senior Madie Grace Gonczy (fourth, 21:44.23), while Streetsboro (junior Cara Thomson and senior Kaelyn Malloy) and Field (sophomore Alison Church) also had top-10 finishers.

Two undefeated teams square off in this epic clash in Kent, their first meeting as Metro Athletic Conference rivals. Both recently recorded signature nonleague wins, with Roosevelt topping Lake (Federal League) and Field topping Copley (Suburban League). The Rough Riders have scored a whopping 22 goals through three games (including eight from senior Audrey Haines) while the Falcons have yielded just three in their first five games.
It's too bad Portage County soccer fans can't be two places at once because both Falcons-Rough Riders games are must-watch. Indeed, while the girls teams haven't squared off in a while, the Field and Roosevelt boys have played each of the last three seasons with all three games decided by a single goal, including the Falcons prevailing 4-3 in Kent a year ago. Field carries an undefeated record into this year's clash while both teams are trying to stay atop the MAC standings with matching 2-0 records entering the night.

Two leading automotive giants, General Motors Company (NYSE:GM) and Toyota Motor Corporation (NYSE:TM), represent contrasting strategies in the U.S. auto market. Twenty years ago, GM sold twice as many vehicles in the U.S. as Toyota. Today, that gap has narrowed dramatically. Through July, GM's sales lead over Toyota dwindled to just over 100,000 vehicles, as reported on August 21. The shifting dynamic highlights two distinct operating models: GM prioritizing disciplined volume and profit margins, while Toyota aggressively expands its hybrid-heavy lineup to capture market share.
Toyota's push into electrified vehicles, predominantly gas-electric hybrids, is rapidly closing the volume gap. In Q2 2026, Toyota Motor North America reported U.S. sales of 673,971 vehicles, up 1.1% year-over-year. Driver demand was led by its electrified options, which jumped 19.5% to 383,091 units, representing 56.8% of Toyota's total Q2 volume.
Financially, Toyota's hybrid strategy gives it strong top-line momentum without forcing full reliance on pure electric vehicles. Its multi-pathway approach offers 33 electrified models across the Toyota and Lexus lineups, helping maintain high consumer interest while keeping incentive spending among the lowest among full-line automakers.
While Toyota closes the distance, GM retained its spot as America's #1 automaker by volume in Q2 2026, selling 714,896 vehicles. Total sales dipped 4.2% year-over-year due to inventory constraints, discontinued models, and a softer EV backdrop. However, GM intentionally chose not to chase lower-margin volume, focusing instead on high-margin trucks and SUVs like the Chevrolet Suburban and GMC Sierra.
GM's financial execution remains sharp. In Q2 2026, GM delivered an 8.6% North American EBIT-adjusted margin, up 2.5 percentage points year-over-year, and raised its full-year 2026 guidance for the second time. Reduced EV manufacturing losses and pricing stability have kept profitability resilient despite lower unit sales growth.

Buffalo Bills defensive tackle Ed Oliver, his family and team are mourning the loss of his 2-year-old son.
The Bills released a statement to express their grief. The team did not disclose what happened to Oliver's son, but the Buffalo News reported that the child died in a drowning at the family's home in suburban Houston on June 28.
"On behalf of the entire Buffalo Bills organization, we want to publicly express our condolences to Ed Oliver and his family on the devastating loss of his son. It's an unthinkable tragedy for any parent. We will continue to support Ed and his family as we all grieve this tragic loss," Bills general manager Brandon Beane said.
The 28-year-old Oliver is attempting to bounce back from a difficult 2025 season in which he only played three games because of an ankle injury and a torn biceps.
Oliver also missed a joint practice with the Cleveland Browns this week due to an unspecified injury.

Everyone can benefit from a refreshing boost mentally and physically from the rigors of sport – Rachel Rush showed why a "reboot" energized her game at the first Suburban League golf tournament as the gifted Hudson teen was the medalist.

Progressive Rep. Jill Tokuda, D-Hawaii, cruised to victory in her primary on Saturday, setting up a showdown with Republican state Sen. Brenton Awa in November.
Tokuda is seeking a third term representing Hawaii's 2nd Congressional District, which includes the entire state outside the island of Oahu, as well as rural and suburban parts of Oahu itself.
The nonpartisan Cook Political Report rates the district D+12. That means it's highly likely that Democrats keep hold of it in this year's midterms.

KIRKLAND, Wash. – All the West Suburban 14-Under softball team needed was an opportunity.
And twice with two outs, they capitalized.
With timely hitting and strong pitching, West Suburban defeated Asia-Pacific (Bacolod City, Philippines) 2-0 Wednesday at the Junior League Softball World Series at Everest Park.
"We knew coming in it was going to be a tight game," West Suburban manager Rick Roberts said. "... We grinded out enough at-bats to get it done."
The East Region representative out of Johnstown will face Hudsonville, Michigan, the winner of the Central Region, at 7 p.m. Thursday in the quarterfinals. West Suburban's lone loss was to the West Region (Palo Cedro, California) by a 2-0 decision Monday.

Jeff's Bagel Run, the fast-growing bagel brand known for making its bagels from scratch in every shop throughout the day, has awarded a 10-unit franchise agreement covering Eastern and South Central Pennsylvania.
The agreement marks Jeff's Bagel Run's entry into Pennsylvania and establishes a development corridor extending from the Harrisburg area east through Reading and the Lehigh Valley to suburban Philadelphia. Site selection is now underway, with the franchise group actively evaluating real estate opportunities and leadership resources across the territory.
"Pennsylvania knows its bagels, so we know we'll have to earn our place here," said Jeff Perera, co-founder of Jeff's Bagel Run. "Plenty of bagel brands are growing. We may be the only one doing it the hard way—starting with flour and mixing, boiling and baking every bagel in every shop throughout the day. There are certainly easier ways to scale, but we haven't found one that makes a better bagel. Now we're looking for multiple sites and neighborhoods to bring that experience to Pennsylvania."
The expansion will be led by experienced multi-unit franchisees Jay and Amy DeLuca, along with operating partners Eric Clark and Nadia Hankin who reside in Harrisburg. The group brings extensive experience in site selection, new-store development, building strong teams, marketing and community involvement.

Jordan Herrera, an attorney, Air Force veteran and former Missouri **** istant attorney general, won the Democratic nomination Tuesday in Missouri's newly redrawn 4th Congressional District, defeating better-funded democratic socialist Hartzell Gray in a seven-way primary.
Herrera prevailed over Gray, the 33-year-old former Kansas City radio host and tenant organizer who drew national attention after appearing on Hasan Piker's Twitch livestream and blasting "sell-out Democrats."
The result puts a more conventional Democrat on the November ballot against Republican Rep. Mark Alford in the GOP-leaning district, rather than Gray, who had framed his campaign as a left-wing challenge to the party establishment.

WINDBER, Pa. – With the West Suburban 12-Under team winning the 2025 Little League Softball World Series, seven members of the squad moved up to the next age level.
Stars Reagan Bills and Adalyn Hines from the 2025 world championship team made a successful transition to the 14-Under level. This year's 14U squad is 12-0 in the postseason after winning four games, three by shutout, at the East Region Tournament.
West Suburban begins play in the Junior League Softball World Series at 4 p.m. Sunday against Canada in Kirkland, Washington.
Many talented players vied to make the 14U team, but only 12 were chosen. Those dozen advanced through the district, section, state and regional tournaments unscathed thanks to a very competitive league overall.
"We had 20 good girls," West Suburban 14U manager Rick Roberts said. "To get down to the final 12, it's not easy because you're looking at 15 or 16.

LIV Golf Michigan, the league's $40 million team championship, is set to be officially canceled after the status of the 2026 season finale had come under serious doubt last week, sources tell Front Office Sports.
An official announcement on the cancellation is expected on Wednesday, according to golf media personality Tom Hobbs, who runs the Flushing It social accounts, which first reported the news.
LIV Michigan had been scheduled for Aug. 27-30 in suburban Detroit at The Cardinal at Saint John's Resort, which is owned by the Pulte Family Charitable Foundation. Spokespeople for LIV Golf, Saint John's Resort, and the Pulte Family Charitable Foundation have yet to respond to a request for comment from FOS.
As of early Tuesday afternoon, there had not been any internal announcement or memo to players about the cancelation, one source told FOS. But the news does not come as a surprise to anyone inside or around LIV.
The team championship was one of two events FOS sources had pegged last month as being at the most risk of being canceled as a sentiment grew among those in and around LIV that the funding from the Saudi PIF—which has announced it would stop funding LIV after this season—could dry up even earlier than expected. The other event at most risk, per sources, was LIV's regular-season finale in Indianapolis Aug. 20-23, but that is currently scheduled to still take place.

ATLANTA (AP) — Nearly a decade ago, Jon Ossoff was a 30-year-old Democratic congressional candidate promising Georgia suburban voters he would "cut wasteful spending" and make "both parties in Washington" be "accountable to you." His Republican opponent even complained that Ossoff "talks like a Republican."
Nobody would make that mistake today. After losing that race in 2017 and narrowly winning a U.S. Senate seat during a runoff in 2021, Ossoff is running for reelection with a full-throated broadside on President Donald Trump as a "national disgrace" leading a "Mar-a-Lago mafia" and "the most corrupt administration of all time."
The 39-year-old senator has always been a vessel for Trump opposition, no matter his message on the campaign trail. But not until now has Ossoff openly embraced the role. His approach is being noticed across the Democratic spectrum, from activists hungry for the right message in the 2026 midterms to those pining for viable presidential candidates in 2028.
This week, as Trump renewed his fixation on false claims of voter fraud in the 2020 election that brought Ossoff to Washington, the senator never missed an opportunity to denounce the "world's most famous sore loser."
"The senator is definitely having a moment, and these breakout moments can certainly become a launching pad for something bigger," said Lis Smith, a Democratic strategist who helped Pete **** igieg go from being an unknown Indiana mayor to a presidential contender in 2020. She said Ossoff's approach — tying Trump's personal financial gain to his performance on the economy — is "one that more Democrats should adopt."

With the women’s World Cup a year away, the top-ranked teams — Spain and the U.S. — have agreed to play a pair of heavyweight friendlies this fall.
Spain — the reigning world champion ranked No. 1 by FIFA — and the U.S. — the defending Olympic gold medalist positioned second — will clash Oct. 10 at Washington’s Audi Field and again three days later at Subaru Park in suburban Philadelphia, the federations announced Monday.
Both teams will use the friendlies to continue preparations for the 2027 World Cup in Brazil. Spain has already qualified, while the U.S. will need only to defeat No. 78 El Salvador at the Concacaf W Championship in November in Greater Dallas to secure passage.
“Two more fantastic matches,” U.S. coach Emma Hayes said in a written statement. “We’ve desperately wanted to get Spain on our schedule, but the difficulties of scheduling the top teams during the women’s international calendar are well known, so to be able to get these two games on the East Coast will be the perfect tests before we head into World Cup qualifying at the end of the year.”
Tickets will go on sale to the general public Thursday.

CARSON, Calif. (AP) — No more playful dances. No more taunting social media posts. Belgium is done celebrating its victory over the host United States and hard at work on extending its World Cup run on American soil.
The Red Devils trained in the Los Angeles area on Wednesday with the memory still fresh of their 4-1 thrashing of the Americans in Seattle on Monday. After surviving a test from Senegal with a thrilling comeback and then thoroughly dominating the U.S. in its first two knockout games, Belgium faces its toughest challenge yet against unbeaten Spain in the quarterfinals on Friday.
But this tumultuous World Cup run has sparked something in this Belgian team, goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois believes.
"We gained a lot of confidence, because we knew it was going to be a hard game against America," Courtois said at the LA Galaxy's suburban stadium. "They're obviously the home team with a full stadium (that's) with them, so it's nice to perform in a good way defensive, offensively, and just play our game."
Belgium went into the U.S. matchup with a world of indignant motivation after star American forward Folarin Balogun's one-game red-card suspension was curiously lifted by FIFA. The Red Devils took it out on an outclassed American team and then celebrated gleefully, both on the pitch and in the dressing room.

A clash over the future of the Wimbledon tennis championships is being played out away from the manicured southwest London courts set to welcome the world's best players next week.
On one side sits the All England Lawn Tennis Club (AELTC), organisers of the only grass-court Grand Slam, which wants to triple the size of its historic grounds.
Its opponent: local residents, who argue the plans threaten the leafy suburban area's natural environment.
The tussle -- currently working its way through England's courts -- has been ongoing for five years.
The AELTC is trying to expand its storied site, where it has held a tournament since 1877, to hold qualifying rounds there.

WASHINGTON, DC - DECEMBER 05: Draw ****** istant Shaquille O’Neal picks Australia during the FIFA World Cup 2026 Official Draw at John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts on December 05, 2025 in Washington, DC. (Photo by Brad Smith/ISI Photos/ISI Photos via Getty Images)
When Australia fans learned the Socceroos were drawn into a World Cup group with the United States from Pot 1, rather than a recent World Cup or continental champions like France, Spain or Argentina, they rejoiced.
Similarly, USMNT supporters celebrated when their Pot 2 draw featured The Land Down Under and not a considerably more-accomplished nation like 2022 semifinalists Croatia or Morocco.
Fast forward to Friday afternoon’s scheduled clash in World Cup Group D play in Seattle and both sets of fans are feeling themselves after strong opening performances, not to mention searching indefatiguably for slights from the other.
It’s all a little more intense than you might expect from two nations whose previous most-ferocious sports feuds centered on suburban-raised Speedo wearers.

Investors seeking reliable income often look to healthcare properties for stability, which makes the choice between Community Healthcare Trust (NYSE:CHCT) and Sabra Health Care REIT (NASDAQ:SBRA) a compelling comparison for 2026.
Community Healthcare Trust carves out a niche by focusing on smaller outpatient facilities, whereas Sabra Health Care REIT operates as an industry giant with a wide reaching portfolio of long-term care beds. Both companies offer unique advantages depending on your preference for specialized niche properties or broad scale within the medical facility landscape.
Community Healthcare Trust targets a specific niche within the healthcare sector by acquiring outpatient facilities in non-urban and suburban markets. The portfolio consists of nearly 198 properties across 35 states, serving a variety of medical providers such as behavioral health and specialty clinics. While the company maintains a broad tenant base, its largest rent contributors include US HealthVest at roughly 7.3% and Lifepoint Health at approximately 6.4% of annualized rent.
In FY 2025, revenue reached approximately $121.2 million, which represents a growth rate of nearly 4.7% compared to the prior year. The company reported a net income of roughly $5.1 million during this period, yielding a net margin of about 4.2%. This return to profitability is notable after the business experienced a net loss in the previous fiscal year, indicating a stabilization in the company's operating results for its investors.
As of its December 2025 balance sheet, the debt-to-equity ratio is approximately 1.2x. This metric measures the company's total debt relative to shareholder equity, indicating how much the company relies on borrowed funds to finance its property acquisitions.
