Travis Barker's vegan journey didn't start cleanly. He went to great lengths to hide his distaste for meat as a kid. That sometimes meant getting his hands dirty, literally.
"I had a very strict father growing up, and you had to eat everything on your plate before you left the dinner table," the Blink-182 drummer recently told People. "So I'd be there for hours sometimes – till I figured out I could hide all of the meat in my pockets."
Barker, 50, looked back on the confusing time in his life in the new interview, which touched on his campaign with the Humane World for Animals organization. It aims to promote "simple choices" to better the future of animals, including "eating more plant-based meals, choosing cruelty-free products, embracing animal-friendly fashion or adopting a shelter pet instead of buying one from a pet store," according to the nonprofit's website.

Heading into the 2026 NFL season, Joe Brady is the NFL's youngest head coach at the ripe old age of 36. And while he has spent the past few years working with Josh Allen and directing one of the league's highest scoring offenses, Brady says his primary focus has always been on connecting with his players through his authentic, energetic approach to leadership.

So often pitchers' duels don't really stand up to the hype, but today's matchup between two former Stetson Hatters – the Mariners' Logan Gilbert and the Rangers' Jacob deGrom – delivered on all that promise and then some. The two pitchers combined for 23 strikeouts, and deGrom carried a perfect game through five innings. In true pitching duel style, it looked like the pitcher who blinked first would come out on the short end, but despite Logan Gilbert making a couple of mistakes, his offense was able to pick him up and deliver him the win. Bragging rights are fun; wins are better. (Gilbert also gets the honor of leading MLB in whiffs today: 24 to deGrom's 20, despite having one fewer strikeout than deGrom.)
This all being said, it was a slog for the Mariners early on. The best at-bat the first time through the order for the Mariners went to – surprise, surprise – Cal Raleigh, who battled deGrom for nine pitches before striking out on deGrom's fastest fastball of the day, a 99.6 mph heater (my campaign for decimal points on the ribbon board in the stadium, which read 100, continues unabated). But the Mariners did fight deGrom, getting themselves into good counts and forcing him into the zone; he finished the second inning at 37 pitches, compared to Gilbert's 24.
But it only took two pitches to offset that work in the third. Nicky Lopez was able to take 96 up and in from Gilbert and find a hole on the infield, and one batter later, with two outs, Joc Pederson jumped a first-pitch slider for a two-run homer. It wasn't a terrible pitch from Gilbert, away from Pederson but probably still too much on the plate; Gilbert had struck Pederson out on the slider in his first at-bat. The slider was particularly nasty today, with an eye-popping 75% whiff rate. He led with the pitch, throwing it 40 times, 12 times to start off an at-bat, which feels like a different sequence than he's used. Gilbert credits Cal for coming up with a good game plan, especially after he felt like he fell into some predictable patterns in his last time out against the A's.
"Like with Joc, we got him with the slider early, so he probably thought we were going to it next time," explained Gilbert. "But then also other guys, we went heavy spin, like with Duran, and then next time went three or four straight fastballs. So I think we did a good job there. They're trying to look at how we're probably scouting them, and then next time through, maybe pitch them different. I think Cal did a good job there."
But deGrom was just as tough on the other side. After striking out eight times in the first three innings, the Mariners hitters decided to try a different strategy the second time through the order. That also didn't work, as they let deGrom cruise through the fourth on nine pitches, keeping his perfect game intact.

The Yankees lost the rubber-game to the San Diego Padres on Sunday, falling by a score of 4-3.
-- It was an inauspicious start by Gerrit Cole in this one after he allowed back-to-back-to-back home runs to the first three batters of the game in Fernando Tatis Jr., Jake Cronenworth and Manny Machado which gave the Padres a 3-0 lead in the blink of an eye and brought Petco Park to a frenzy.
Cole settled down after that and gave up just two singles until the seventh inning when the long ball reared its ugly head once again. Leading off, Luis Campusano rocketed one to left-center field for San Diego's fourth homer off Cole which extended its lead to 4-0. The right-hander ended his outing by retiring the next three hitters and going seven innings for just the third time this season.
Three of the four home runs allowed by Cole came on his four-seam fastball and he's now given up 17 home runs in 111 innings across 19 starts this season.

Three months ago, trophies were handed out to the Stanford women and Auburn men at Omni La Costa Resort & Spa, bringing an end to a stellar 2025-26 season. But after a great summer of amateur golf (with a couple more big events to go in 2026), college golf's time to shine has returned.
There are plenty of storylines to look forward to this season, but Golfweek is taking a look into a crystal ball to make some predictions for the season, including what may happen eight months from now at Omni La Costa.

In 1893, a chemistry professor named Charles Coates arrived at Louisiana State University and wrote that, to his surprise, "there was practically no athletics in the student body: no football, no tennis, and only very little baseball in the spring." A broad program of sports struck him as the kind of thing a school should have, particularly as US universities were beginning to tout intercollegiate athletics as critical to a balanced higher-ed experience and another way to justify the cost of entry. But 133 years on, sports aren't merely the main attraction at LSU. They're the school's raison d'être, the blinkered obsession that consumes the university and its most prominent ambassadors.
Any doubt that the business of educating college students is just a nettlesome distraction from the business of college sports in Baton Rouge has been emphatically dispelled over the past 10 months. On the football side, the school has spent or committed roughly $162m to its last three head coaches: Ed Orgeron, the folksy national champion in 2019 who received a $17m buyout when he was fired two years later; Brian Kelly, the unloved underachiever who received a $54m buyout after being fired last October; and Lane Kiffin, the Kelly replacement whom it signed to a $91m deal a month later. Clemson, the opponent for LSU's season opener at home on Saturday, are about to find out what all that money buys.

In March, LSU brought back men's basketball coach Will Wade, the turnaround artist who became a national emblem of college sports' old pay-for-play hypocrisy when he was caught on an FBI wiretap discussing a recruiting offer seven years ago. An NCAA dragnet soon uncovered more alleged recruiting improprieties. After LSU fired Wade for cause, he resurfaced at McNeese State, engineering an unlikely reversal of fortune that eventually landed him a lucrative offer to coach back in the big leagues at North Carolina State. That stint lasted all of one 20-win season before the Tigers swooped in and began the process to bring Wade back – despite the fact that someone else was already coaching the team.
And then there's Kim Mulkey, grande dame of LSU sports blindness. When the national championship-winning women's basketball coach brought 17-year-old Anna Minaeva into the fold last month, more than a few eyebrows arched – and not because she plays the same position as junior center Kate Koval. Monday at the U.S. Open, No. 21 seed Anna Kalinskaya led Russian compatriot Anna Blinkova 6-4, 2-2, 40-15 on Court 5.
After a short rally, Kalinskaya sent a forehand crosscourt that bounced comfortably inside the singles sideline. As it rose off the blue acrylic, Kalinskaya turned for the end of the game — before an almost plaintive shout of "out" echoed across the court.
Kalinskaya looked like she had seen a ghost, and immediately requested a replay. The chair umpire made the announcement, but nothing came up. Eventually, the screen showed a ball bouncing several feet away from the nearest line, but it was a replay of a serve that had nothing to do with the point in question.

Suryakumar Yadav has admitted that he only has himself to blame for failing to establish a longer career in ODI cricket, despite becoming one of India's most successful T20 batters.
The former India T20I captain played 37 ODIs and scored 773 runs at an average of 25.76, numbers that never quite reflected the impact he had in the shortest format. His final ODI appearance came in the 2023 World Cup final against Australia, and he has not featured in India's 50-over setup since.
Suryakumar, who led India to T20 World Cup glory earlier this year, acknowledged that his ODI career remains a source of disappointment. Rather than pointing to selection calls or circumstances, he accepted responsibility for not doing enough to adapt to the demands of the format.
"Hypothetically, we can say anything - that if I had come into the team in 2016, I could have played Tests and probably done well in ODIs too. But the reality is that I played only one Test and one innings. After that, the other players came back and started playing again, so it didn't happen. But definitely, I am disappointed with myself when it comes to ODI cricket.
"It was a white-ball format, just like T20s, but to be very honest, I personally feel I did not put in as much effort as I should have for that format," Suryakumar Yadav said on Aakash Chopra's YouTube channel.
While T20 cricket has allowed Suryakumar to thrive with his aggressive strokeplay, he believes ODI cricket demands a far more calculated approach from batters.
He described the 50-over game as the most difficult format for a batter because situations can change rapidly, particularly for those coming in at No. 4, 5 or 6.
"I feel ODI cricket is probably the most difficult format to play as a batter, whether you are batting lower down the order or anywhere else. You can be two down for zero if you are batting at No. 4, or four down for 24 if you are batting at No. 6. Anything can happen. You have to bat almost like you do in a Test match. You see off the bowlers initially, give them respect and slowly build your innings. You may bat at a strike rate of 50 or sometimes 75, then take it to 100 and eventually finish at 130 or 140, much like you do in T20 cricket," he added.
According to Suryakumar, the challenge was not simply about batting in a different format. He struggled to work out exactly how he needed to construct an innings in ODI cricket, particularly in the middle order.
Suryakumar revealed that he knew he was likely to occupy a middle-order role, but failed to put the same level of preparation into ODI cricket that he now gives T20 cricket.
"Personally, I feel I could not crack how to approach that format. I knew I was probably going to bat at No. 5 or 6, but even then, I did not work hard enough to understand the format. By the time I could blink, those 20-25 games had gone. I don't even know when it happened or how it went by. And yes, I definitely regret not playing more ODI cricket. I wonde

After going through a gameday walk-through on Thursday morning, technically speaking the Cougars' 13th practice of fall camp, they have just two more to go: A second and final scrimmage on Friday, then a practice on Sunday evening to complete the 15-session slate.
Across the last two weeks, WSU has solidified almost all positions on both sides of the ball, even if coaches are reticent to acknowledge how they have unfolded in public settings. They have been loath to detail the QB race, for example, but all signs point toward UC Davis transfer Caden Pinnick getting the starting nod over returners Julian Dugger and Owen Eshelman. And their starting defensive ends will be Matyus McLain and Linus Zunk, transfers from Idaho and Vanderbilt, respectively.
In fact, even with two more practices ahead of them, the Cougars have likely established their starting lineups. It's possible many of those players don't play the entirety of Friday's scrimmage, set for 11 a.m. at Gesa Field, for rest and injury-prevention reasons.

The modern American right-wing movement is transactional by its nature.
Look no further than the man it has propped up as its beacon of values and character: Donald Trump. The absolute king of seeing everything in life as a transaction. If you can't do something for him, he has no time for you. His presumption that everyone in the world operates that way has always been a self-reflection.
The movement, and its media arm, work in much the same way. That's true of the topics it covers as well as its own people. Pundits go from being the face of a network to persona non grata in the blink of an eye.
Truth, nuance, and humanity are useless concepts. Everyone is a widget on an **** embly line of messaging. No one exists outside that transactional lens, and once you're no longer of any use to them, you're not only out, but you become their next target.

How Scotland, and other parts of the world, became entranced by the fairytale only for reality of sport's essential brutality to hit them square between the eyes at Celtic Park on denouement day.
If there is a non-Glasgow team capable of roughing up the big two as Heart of Midlothian did repeatedly last season then we're in for a wild ride.
If this league campaign goes to the final three minutes on the final day, if the domestic football story to beat all domestic football stories is in touching distance as the campaign swings for home next spring then we'll be blessed.
