For years, Kyle Larson openly talked about eventually stepping away from NASCAR to pursue a full-time Sprint Car schedule.
Today, that isn't the plan anymore.
Instead, the two-time NASCAR Cup Series champion says the biggest influence on whatever comes next won't be another racing series at all. It'll be his family.
Speaking to Motorsport.com ahead of next weekend's Iowa Speedway race, Larson explained that his thinking has shifted dramatically since he first floated the idea of leaving NASCAR before turning 40 to chase another championship.

England sprinter Zac Shaw says winning Commonwealth Games gold in the T12 100m is "part of the grief journey" following the death of his mother last summer.
Shaw's mum, Evette, died "nearly a year ago to the day" as the 30-year-old clinched his first individual international gold medal in Glasgow in a time of 10.89 seconds.
His was one of two athletics medals for Team England on Thursday, as shot putter Scott Lincoln took bronze.
"Ever since [his mum's death] happened, in the back of my head my journey of grief has been centred around this," Shaw told BBC Sport.
"This has been the one thing that's got me through it."

Triathlete Mohamed Lahna has competed in three Paralympics, winning a bronze medal for Morocco in 2016 and a silver medal for the United States in 2024. He's no stranger to extreme endurance events, either, having swum the Strait of Gibraltar and completed the Marathon des Sables in the Sahara Desert.
But on July 29 in Los Angeles, Lahna crossed a finish line and into unprecedented territory when he completed a cross-country triathlon that he started on June 13 in New York.
The 44-year-old, who was born without a right femur, is believed to be the first athlete with a prosthesis to complete a triathlon across the United States.
Lahna traveled through 16 states and covered a total of 3,300 miles – equivalent to completing 206 Paralympic sprint triathlons or more than 23 Ironman triathlons. For 47 consecutive days, he rose at 4:30 a.m. and battled persistent pain, extreme weather and tough terrain.

Wales women's sprint team set a new Commonwealth Games record in qualifying to set up a gold medal race against England this evening.
The team of Emma Finucane, Rhian Edmunds, Lowri Thomas finished fastest in qualifying in a breathtaking time of 46.972 seconds.
They will ride at 18:15 BST at the Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome, with at least a silver medal guaranteed, an upgrade on the bronze the same trio won in Birmingham in 2022.
The men's trio of Lewis Oliva, Steffan Lloyd and Ioan Hepburn also qualified for the bronze final against Trinidad and Tobago at 18:20 BST.
They finished fourth fastest in qualifying with a time of 44.075 seconds.

Jersey sprinter Jamie Oldham broke the island record for the 200m at the 2026 Commonwealth Games.
Oldham - who also set a new Jersey 100m record on Tuesday - was the fastest of the island's trio of runners in Glasgow.
His time of 21.02 seconds lowered his island record of 21.21 he set earlier this year and was 0.19 seconds off a place in the semi-finals.
Oldham finished fourth in his heat, less than half a second off Botswana's heat winner Justice Oratile as he finished 26th-fastest.
"I had an outside lane, I wasn't too happy about that coming in as I wanted someone quick on my outside to chase," Oldham told BBC Radio Jersey.

Sha'Carri Richardson is once again a national champion.
Richardson won the women's 100 at the 2026 USA Track and Field Championships on Friday, July 24.
Richardson crossed the finish line with a time of 10.77 to win. Her time equaled a season best. Kayla White ran a 10.90 to place second and Tamari Davis posted an 11.00 to take third.
Running out of lane five, Richardson got a decent start. She pulled even with the field around 40 meters, surged passed the other sprinters and crossed the finish line with a comfortable victory.
"It feels phenomenal to be back in a better place. Healthy, physically, mentally and emotionally," Richardson told NBC Sports after the race. "It shows that hard work pays off."

INDIANAPOLIS — Five-time Brickyard 400 winner Jeff Gordon has returned to one of the most important places in his racing life — this time as the centerpiece of history.
The Indianapolis Motor Speedway Museum has opened "Jeff Gordon," its newest rotating exhibition, marking the first time the museum has dedicated an entire exhibit to a single NASCAR driver. The exhibit traces Gordon's journey from quarter midgets and sprint cars to becoming a four-time NASCAR Cup Series champion and the winningest driver in Brickyard 400 history.
"It's more than a dream come true," Gordon said. "You just hope as a young kid who becomes a race car driver that you get to do it professionally, that you can have success doing it professionally, and do it as long as possible and stay healthy doing it. I got to do that and a whole lot more."
Open through February, the exhibit features 13 race cars spanning every stage of Gordon's career, more than 70 helmets and never-before-displayed artifacts, including his first bicycle racing trophy, the first Jeff Gordon T-shirt, the firesuit from his first sprint car victory and the Williams Formula One steering wheel he used during his 2003 seat swap with Juan Pablo Montoya at IMS.
"I look at this room and walk through the timeline, and that's what comes back is just all the dreams and the hard work and everything paying off," Gordon said.

Jasper Philipsen admitted he had been feeling the pressure before sprinting to a dominant victory from a reduced bunch at the end of the Tour de France's Alpine 17th stage on Wednesday, to end a "horrible" run of near misses.
Set up by a strong lead-out from team-mate Mathieu van der Poel, Philipsen surged several bike lengths clear of Mauro Schmid and Olav Kooij, who had each already won a stage at the Tour.
This was an 11th Tour stage victory overall for the 28-year-old Belgian, who won the sprinters' green points jersey in 2023.
It meant that he has won at least one stage in each of the last five editions of the Tour.

MIAMI, July 22 (UPI) -- Inter Miami signed midfielder Casemiro through the end of the 2027 MLS sprint season, with a multiyear option, the club announced Wednesday.
Casemiro's pact is pending receipt of his visa. An extension option could keep Casemiro under contract until June 2029.
The 34-year-old, who played for Brazil at the 2026 World Cup, spent the last four seasons at Manchester United. The English Premier League club announced in January he would leave after the 2025-26 campaign.
"What motivates me the most, and I think this is true for every player, is winning and continuing to grow," Casemiro said in a news release. "The project the club presented to me, along with the effort everyone made to bring me here, means a lot to me.

Belgium's Jasper Philipsen won stage 17 of the Tour de France following a bunch sprint.
The Alpecin-Premier Tech rider powered over the line with a good gap over his rivals to win his first stage in what had been a frustrating three-week race.
The 28-year-old won the prestigious green points jersey in 2023, but had struggled in this race to catch compatriot Tim Merlier in the final phases of sprints.
After stage seven, he was seen on social media tossing his bike in frustration after his illustrious team-mate, the powerhouse classics legend Mathieu van der Poel had mis-timed his lead-out and Philipsen became blocked in.
But after a hilly start on a warm day on the 174.7km stage from Chambery to Voiron near the Alps, Philipsen enjoyed a powerful lead-out from Van der Poel and was able to sustain his power all the way to the line.

MIAMI (AP) — Inter Miami announced the signing of Brazil midfielder and five-time Champions League winner Casemiro on Wednesday, and Major League Soccer is now investigating whether the reigning league champion engaged in tampering to get that deal done.
The 34-year-old Casemiro — who appeared in all five of Brazil's matches at this year's World Cup, scoring one goal — is under contract with Inter Miami through the end of next year's sprint season, with an extension option through June 2029.

"While Inter Miami CF and the LA Galaxy have reached a settlement for the Discovery Priority to sign Casemiro, the terms will be released upon conclusion of the tampering investigation."
It's unclear when Casemiro will debut for Inter Miami. The team said he is still waiting on the necessary visa.

Jasper Philipsen ended his frustration at this year's Tour de France with victory from a reduced sprint on stage 17 as Tadej Pogacar stayed safe in the yellow jersey.
Philipsen repeatedly fell short in bunch sprints over the first two weeks of this Tour but made it look easy in Voiron after a 35-strong breakaway arrived first into town.
With Alpecin-Premier Tech team-mate Mathieu van der Poel providing the lead-out, Philipsen finished several bike lengths ahead of Mauro Schmid and Olav Kooij to take his 11th career Tour stage win, having won one in each edition since 2022.
"Definitely (it's special) after such a roller coaster of emotions in this Tour de France," Philipsen said.
"I had to wait until stage 17. I was prepared very, very well, I was in the shape of my life and the first 12 days were just horrible. I couldn't find myself, I couldn't find the feeling I was hoping for.

"The ability to be good at everything while playing an elite shortstop has been the key to his career, and those things are still alive, even if a bit diminished so far this year. If there is a theme for this year's Boston Celtics squad at the NBA's 2026 Las Vegas Summer League, it has been growing together. A lack of unanimity among MotoGP manufacturers has dramatically altered the outlook for a proposal led by Aprilia to limit riders to a single bike during Friday and Saturday practice sessions.
Until a couple of grands prix ago, most manufacturers believed that, starting next season, teams would remove one of the two bikes from the front of the garage during practice before reverting to the usual two-bike set-up for both the sprint race and Sunday's grand prix.
However, Motorsport understands that divisions within the Motorcycle Sports Manufacturers **** ociation (MSMA) have forced a rethink on a proposal that had been all but approved. As things stand, the initiative has reached a dead end and now appears highly unlikely to be introduced.
The proposal, initially put forward by Aprilia and backed by Ducati, was presented as a cost-saving measure. Those opposed to the idea, however, believe the real motivation behind the two Italian manufacturers' push is their confidence that they already hold a technical advantage with the all-new 2027 prototypes.
In theory, restricting riders to a single bike during practice would slow development work and make it harder for rivals to close what they see as an existing performance gap.
