Sydney Sweeney's latest ad campaign has landed very differently with some of the women who have spent their lives competing in sports.
Four-time Olympic gold medalist Ariarne ***** mus is among a growing group of athletes criticizing Sweeney's new "Just Sports" campaign for Novig, a sports prediction market. The campaign shows Sweeney nude or minimally dressed while footballs, basketballs, hockey equipment and other sports gear strategically cover her body.
Athletes including former UCLA gymnast Gracie Kramer, Olympic swimmer Lani Pallister, British sprinter Amy Hunt and water polo Olympian Tilly Kearns have responded by putting competition, training and athletic achievement back at the center of their own posts.
Sweeney is more closely tied to the campaign than a typical celebrity spokesperson. Novig announced that she joined the company as a strategic partner and equity holder, while Sweeney said she had participated in the creative process from the beginning.
The four-time Olympic champion, who retired from competitive swimming in 2025, wrote on Instagram that she had believed this kind of marketing belonged in the past.

British sprinter Amy Hunt is among the female athletes to speak out against a controversial sports gambling advert starring actress Sydney Sweeney.
The advert has gone viral online and features American Sweeney naked but covering parts of her body with various pieces of sporting equipment.
It has sparked a strong reaction, with many female athletes criticising its ******* ualisation of women in sport, and how they are being defined by their appearance rather than their achievements as sportswomen.
Hunt, who became a four-time European champion earlier this summer, referenced the advert after she ran a season's best 22.10 seconds to finish fourth in the 200m final at the Ultimate Championship in Budapest on Sunday.
"Sydney Sweeney, this is what women in sport look like," Hunt said in her post-race interview with BBC Sport.

Rams cornerback Jaylen Watson was only blamed for one touchdown pass surrendered in his last two seasons with the Chiefs, but L.A.'s $51 million investment has already allowed twice that many in 2026. Although "blame" on touchdown passes can be difficult to ascertain, especially if it's simply because Watson was the closest defender in the area, this is not the start that the Rams envisioned for him when they overhauled their secondary in the offseason.
In total, Watson was blamed for allowing three catches on five targets, resulting in 53 yards and two touchdowns.
On the first touchdown, Watson is covering Mike Evans on the bottom of the screen and then has to run all the way down the field to try and cover Demarcus Robinson as he has sprinted past and away from safety Kam Kinchens. This is where one touchdown and the majority of the yards against Watson come from.

America's F1 hopeful Colton Herta pulls out of the sprint F2 race in Madrid with illness, but it comes after the FIA penalised him to start from the pitlane.
It is not going well for America's F1 hopeful Herta at all in the FIA Formula 2 (F2) Championship in 2026. Having taken a big step to move away from IndyCar in the hope of securing enough superlicence points to race in Formula 1, potentially with Cadillac, the season hasn't gone his way at all.
Racing for Hitech GP, Herta is 17th with 26 points after 10 rounds, with a best result of fifth. The American is racing at F1's new Madring circuit in Madrid on Spanish GP weekend. He started it well in fourth. He was doing well in qualifying in the Top 10 for the most part.
However, he dropped to 12th in the end after he suffered a crash at Turn 19 to end the session. Following the day's run, just before Restricted Period One kicked in for F2 teams, Hitech GP found a problem with the American's car, which they started to work on.
Since it was a priority, they continued working into Restricted Period One and therefore were in breach of Article 21.6a of the F2 regulations. The technical delegate reported the matter, and the stewards duly penalised him with a pitlane start in Madrid's sprint race on Saturday.

Franco Morbidelli will serve a long lap penalty in Sunday's Misano Grand Prix. The FIM MotoGP Stewards judged him guilty of "riding slowly online disturbing another rider," this time impeding Enea Bastianini at Turn 13 during Friday afternoon practice, according to the stewards' penalty notice.
The Stewards classified the incident as MGP-SR3, "Dangerous slow riding during any session," and made clear the punishment reflected a pattern rather than a single lapse. "Taking into account the rider's multiple offences during the season, the appropriate penalty in this case is a Long Lap Penalty," the notice read. Crucially, the sanction applies only to Sunday's Grand Prix and not the Sprint on Saturday. To serve the penalty, Morbidelli will need to ride through a designated path off the racing line, which can typically add 2 to 5 seconds of lap time.
"I know it's a pity and I know a lot of people will hate, but I can **** ure you that my intention is never to be dangerous or to impede," Morbidelli posted on Instagram. "Let's be honest it happens because I'm not clever enough on those slowing down moments."
The penalty puts a damper on what may be Morbidelli's final home Misano weekend in the premier class. Morbidelli is leaving the VR46 team at the end of this season, and is expected to race for Ducati's World Superbike team in 2027. Squandering a Q2 starting berth with a long lap in front of his home crowd is exactly the kind of complication he didn't need on a farewell weekend on the Riviera.

PALOS DE LA FRONTERA, Spain (AP) — Matthew Brennan enhanced his status as the standout sprinter at the Spanish Vuelta by winning his fourth stage Tuesday in the 21-year-old British rider's Grand Tour debut.
Brennan was delivered to the front of the bunch with 100 meters left by an ideal leadout from Wout van Aert, his star teammate at Visma-Lease a Bike who already won two stages at this Vuelta.
Crossing the line, Brennan raised his right hand with four fingers out in a victory salute. Bryan Coquard was second and Vito Braet third. Van Aert was sixth at the end of a 181-kilometer (112.5 miles) ride in more blazing heat from Cortegana to Palos de la Frontera.
After 16 stages, overall leader Enric Mas retained his advantage in the red jersey of 2 minutes, 6 seconds ahead of Felix Gall. Primož Roglič is a further 4 second back in third.
Wednesday's stage is another flat ride into Seville before a 32.5-km (20.2-mile) time trial Thursday that could be key for Roglič.

Timely enough off the heels of the Labor Day holiday yesterday, the NHL's new collective bargaining agreement, the labor rules agreed to by the NHL and the NHLPA, kicks in next week. The new agreement is in place through September 2030, marking the second time in a row the two sides have put a deal in place without missing any time. That's no small matter, prior to the recent labor peace the NHL owners have locked out the players in 2004 and 2012 for significant periods that cost a total of 116 games.
These days, fortunately for all, there is more cooperation and perhaps about the best working relationship between the owners and players that we have seen in hockey. Those good feelings are no doubt influenced by business as a whole booming – revenue is way up so their is more money to be made by both sides. Further, ownership is absolutely swimming in vastly increased valuation and sale prices lately – look no further than the Penguins selling for $1.75 billion in 2026 after selling for $900 million just five years earlier.
The new CBA had some rules come on board early for last season – like LTIR tweaks and the playoff salary cap. Here are a few more interesting tweaks in place.
Training camps open Sept. 16 to coincide with the start of that new labor deal, and they'll look much different than they did in the past. Experienced players will be put through only a 13-day camp, down from 20 days, and those with at least 100 NHL games on their resumes are now limited to two exhibition games. Each team will play only four exhibition games.
The preseason shrinks again, at least formally. Most players across the league are already skating informally with their teammates and have been for a week or more by this point. That amount of time in the pre-practice stage will now be longer than the formal, official 13-day training camp. Long gone are the days of multiple on-ice sessions per day. In fact, teams can also no longer implement fitness testing for unpopular tests on the exercise bike or the so-called dreaded bag skate or repetitive timed sprints.

Investment and savings product sales hit a record $4.4 billion in the quarter, up 23% from a year ago, while client ***** et values ended the period at an all-time high of $140 billion, up 16%. Net inflows added another $397 million. That growth translated directly into profit. ISP segment revenue rose 21% to $361 million, and pretax income jumped 31% to $104 million, meaning the segment's margin expanded even as it grew. The reason: ***** et-based commission revenue climbed 28%, outpacing the 19% rise in average client ***** ets, thanks to a shift toward higher-margin US managed accounts and Canadian mutual funds.
Primerica also returned $172 million to shareholders in the quarter through $135 million in buybacks and roughly $37 million in dividends, bringing year-to-date capital returns to $352 million. Its effective tax rate improved to 21.7% from 23.9% a year earlier, and its life insurer's statutory risk-based capital ratio stood at approximately 440%, a cushion most insurers would envy.
The company's distribution engine tells a rougher story. The life-licensed sales force fell 3% year over year to 148,612 representatives. Recruiting rose 2% to 82,346 recruits, but far fewer of them actually got licensed: new life-licensed representatives dropped 15% to 11,020. That gap between recruiting and licensing shows up directly in output. The company issued 78,904 life insurance policies, down 12%, with total face amount issued falling 8% to $27.7 billion.
Term Life revenue was roughly flat at $444 million even as adjusted direct premiums rose 3%, and segment pretax income fell 4% to $148 million. Part of that came from cost creep rather than claims: the benefits and claims ratio held steady at 57.9%, but the insurance expense ratio rose to 8.4% from 7.6% a year earlier, eating into a segment that is supposed to be Primerica's stable, predictable cash generator.

Sept 7 (Reuters) - As the unofficial start of the campaign sprint kicks off on Labor Day Monday, President Donald Trump's deep unpopularity is imperiling Republican chances of maintaining their narrow majorities in Congress with just two months before November's midterm elections.
Midterm elections, above all, are a referendum on the occupant of the White House, according to election experts. That is ‌even more of a truism in the era of Trump, who has spent the better part of a decade as the country's dominant political figure and could face stiff political headwinds in his final ‌two years in office.
If Democrats win a majority in the U.S. House of Representatives, as appears likely, the party would be able to open damaging investigations into Trump's administration while forcing the White House to compromise on most legislation. Party leaders have already vowed to launch probes into what they describe as Trump's corruption.
The race for U.S. Senate control is much too close to call, according to ******* ysts, but a Democratic majority in that chamber could block many of Trump's nominees, including any Supreme Court justices in the event of a high court vacancy.

Top seed Alexander Zverev picked up the pace at the US Open on Saturday, virtually sprinting to a 6-2, 7-6 (7/2), 6-2 victory over Alejandro Tabilo to reach the last 16 after laboring through a pair of marathon five-setters.
The German had already spent nine hours and 26 minutes on court in his first two matches -- the most time a top seed has needed to reach the third round of a major since 1999.
The French Open champion appeared on a mission to end the trend against 25th-seeded Chilean Tabilo, who fell to Zverev in the second round last year on the same Arthur Ashe Stadium court.
Zverev didn't face a break point in a brutally efficient first set, winning all 11 points behind his first serve and five of seven on his second serve.
He broke Tabilo twice on the way to pocketing the set in 38 minutes, and broke him again on the way to a 4-2 lead in the second.

After a slow start to the season, there would have been hope that this fixture against Nottingham Forest would be the moment things started to click for Tottenham Hotspur. Instead, Spurs had to settle for a goalless draw as their wait for a first Premier League goal of the season continued.
Roberto De Zerbi made three changes from the loss against Newcastle United, with Destiny Udogie and Savio getting their first league starts of the season, and Conor Gallagher returning to the XI in favor of Mateus Fernandes. Forest made one change, as Liam Delap was preferred to Igor Jesus up front.
This first half was full of physicality but not much quality. Both sides struggled to create clearcut scoring opportunities, with set pieces and long-range efforts the only real threats from either side. There was a sort of symmetry to the chance creation, though, as both Spurs and Forest saw attackers in behind one-on-one with the keeper only for the attacker to fail to capitalize and the referee to also call the play back. Omar Marmoush for Spurs was the first, breaking away from Neco Williams to latch onto Porro's long ball, only for a foul to be awarded to Williams for a shove by the Egyptian; while Morgan Gibbs-White was flagged for offside as he sprinted in behind Jan Paul van Hecke.
With both sides failing to score in the first half, it looked like Forest may have opened the scoring in the second. In the absence of superstar Tadej Pogacar another Slovenian announced himself to the cycling world with a stunning win on one of the toughest stages of this Vuelta a Espana: 20-year-old Jakob Omrzel.
The Bahrain-Victorious prodigy was part of a 30-strong breakaway on the 166.6km stage 12, a dramatic up-and-down day after two flatter stages for the sprinters.

Olympic 200m champion Letsile Tebogo will return to Budapest for the Ultimate Championships next week, but the Hungarian capital is more than just another stop on the athletics calendar for the Botswana sprinter.
It is the city where the 23-year-old announced himself to the world and where his mother Seratiwa watched him make history for his country by claiming two medals at the 2023 World Championships.
This time Seratiwa will not be cheering on her son from the stands, having passed away in May 2024 after a short illness.
Having shared a close relationship with his mother - one she described as being more like a "brother and sister bond" - Tebogo admits that returning without her is difficult.

GOP Rep. Max Miller spent Monday morning not on the campaign trail, but Zooming into an Ohio courtroom in a dispute with ex-girlfriend and former White House press secretary Stephanie Grisham, the second time the embattled congressman has been forced to appear in county court in less than a week.
As House lawmakers return to Washington for a sprint ahead of the midterms, Miller appeared from DC via Zoom to address whether he violated a 2023 settlement agreement with Grisham. That agreement came after Grisham alleged Miller abused her, he denied the allegation and then sued her for defamation. As part of their deal, Grisham and Miller were barred from disparaging each other publicly.
It's the latest legal battle facing Miller as he runs for re-election in a district Trump won in 2024 by more than 10 points but Republicans now fear will be competitive over his legal and personal issues. The congressman has faced calls from some Senate Republicans to step down, but Speaker Mike Johnson told CNN on Monday that he supports Miller's reelection bid, calling him "a great member of Congress."
Miller is also locked in a bitter custody battle with his ex-wife, Emily Moreno, the daughter of GOP Sen. Bernie Moreno. She has alleged that Miller abused her, including holding a gun to her when their daughter was an infant. Miller has denied the allegations. Miller came to court in person in that custody case last week.
Zooming in to the wood-paneled courtroom Monday, Miller faced questions over his social media habits, recent media interviews and whether he called Grisham a liar after the two of them entered into the 2023 settlement agreement.

Leeds United have added another attacking option to their squad with Jean-Mattéo Bahoya arriving from Eintracht Frankfurt on a season-long loan.
The deal includes a mandatory €30 million purchase clause, meaning the 21-year-old is expected to make his move to Elland Road permanent next summer.
Bahoya spent the past two-and-a-half years in Germany after joining Frankfurt from Angers in January 2024. He made 78 competitive appearances for the Bundesliga club, scoring seven goals, and featured 37 times last season, including eight outings in the Champions League.

Third baseman Carlos Correa was cleared Tuesday to take a significant next step in his attempt to return to the Houston Astros this year from ankle surgery.
Correa, who had surgery in early May for a torn peroneus brevis tendon, had a doctor's appointment Tuesday at which he was cleared to increase his baseball activities. The plan is for Correa to report to the Astros' minor-league facility in West Palm Beach, Fla., this weekend to begin that ramp-up.
"From the moment I had the surgery, my plan has always been to try to get back and play this year," Correa said Tuesday. "So now that we're going to ramp up for real and see how the foot's going to respond, this will be a real test for us to see if we can come back and play."
Correa has increased his activity over the past month while rehabbing in Houston. He is hitting against a pitching machine, taking ground **** and sprinting at "95%" at this point, he said.
Correa has not run bases or faced live pitching, two significant hurdles that would be part of his program in Florida. He will not be playing in games there immediately, as there are still boxes he must check.

They've considered whether they might take an RB or WR in the second round, or maybe even an uber-elite QB or TE. Some of the best sprinters have mapped out a game plan that takes them into the fourth or even the fifth round.
Then things start getting tougher for sprinters. The RB "dead zone" (which actually coincides with the lesser-discussed WR dead zone) generates more choices. Sprinters are straight-line runners. They don't want a lot of choices. They want the clarity of the early rounds replicated in the later rounds. But that's not how drafts work.
Long-distance drafters approach this process differently. They prepare for all 16, 18, or however many rounds the draft is. Perhaps they don't know their top targets for each round. But they do know that the attention they pay with their first pick should match the attention they pay with their 16th pick. Bargains can be found everywhere.
Sprinters can't wait to finish. Long-distance drafters can't wait to pick. Decide which one you are, and more importantly, which one you want to be.

For the first time in Robert Saleh's tenure, the Tennessee ***** ans are poised to take the practice field on Sept. 1 with a regulation roster.
Following Sunday's moves to trim the squad down to 53 players and the flurry of waiver claims, free agent adds and practice squad invitations made on Monday, the ***** ans return to the practice field on Sept. 1 for their first post-training camp practice as the 12-day sprint to the start of the regular season commences.
The ***** ans are scheduled to take the field around noon. Media will be on hand to survey the first half-hour or so, and updates about how the team looks and who's seated where on the depth chart can follow. Prior to practice, at roundabouts 11:30 a.m. CT, ***** ans GM Mike Borgonzi will brief the media on the team's roster decisions in the last 48 hours, and after practice the ***** ans will send Saleh and select players to the podium to preview the start of the season.

After all the weather delays at the Belfry, getting the Husqvarna British Masters through 72 holes was quite an accomplishment. Hats off to tournament officials and greenkeepers.
They packed so much into the final day, the DP World Tour will probably get a hefty bill for excess baggage.
The final group, for instance, shoehorned 31 holes into an exhausting Sunday as Saturday's third round spilled over.
In fact, the closing 18 holes began before round three had even finished as the field tried to get home and dry ahead of predicted storms in the area later in the afternoon. There was no redraw either for the closing circuit, with speed being the order of the day
This golfing marathon became a sprint for the line. Joe Dean certainly got a shift on as he surged up the order to claim his maiden victory on the DP World Tour in thrilling style.

MADISON – The status of Wisconsin's Emerson Mandell and Kevin Heywood has been uncertain for weeks. What's a few more days.
It's likely that it won't be until game day that we learn if the starting right side of the Badgers offensive line will play against No. 5 Notre Dame on Sept. 6 at Lambeau Field.
"There aren't decisions made completely on a lot of guys just yet," UW coach Luke Fickell said Aug. 31 during a weekly news conference at Camp Randall Stadium. "We'll have to figure that thing out as we get closer to game day."
Mandell, a right guard, has been recovering for a foot surgery he had in the spring. Heywood, a right tackle, suffered a lower body injury during the second day of camp and didn't return in a full capacity for the rest of camp.
At the end of camp the two were doing individual work during practice. After the final day of camp Aug. 23, the two were running sprints on the practice field north of the stadium following a team scrimmage.

NASCAR's championship format changed for 2026, so before the final 10 races begin, let's make The Chase make sense.
Following the 26-race regular season, the top 16 drivers in the Cup Series standings advance to The Chase. Unlike the previous playoff format, winning a race does not automatically secure a spot. Drivers must earn their way into the championship battle through points.
Once the field is set, the standings reset based on each driver's regular-season position. The regular-season champion begins The Chase with 2,100 points, followed by the second seed at 2,075 and the third at 2,065. From there, the total decreases by five points per position until the 16th seed starts at 2,000.
That creates a 100-point gap between first and 16th before the postseason even begins, rewarding drivers for an entire season of consistency rather than treating every qualifier equally.
Then, it becomes a 10-race sprint to the championship.

NEW YORK — Novak Djokovic, despite being 39 years old, had as good a chance as anyone to make a deep run at the US Open and finally capture that still elusive 25th Grand Slam ****** le.
On center stage at Arthur Ashe Stadium, where he has captured four US Open championships, including his last Grand Slam triumph in 2023, the greatest men's Grand Slam winner in history looked lethargic, moping around, taking pills, throwing up, walking as slowly as he could to the sideline, and was sometimes downright disinterested, against Mariano Navone, and was stunned in the first round, 7-6(5), 5-7, 4-6, 6-2, 6-1, snapping a 78 first-round Grand Slam match winning streak and bringing a stunning, quick end to his tournament with the questions again if he has much left in the tank.
Djokovic's opening-round exit was the first at a Grand Slam since the Australian Open in 2006, a tournament he would go on to win 10 times. It's also his first loss in the two rounds at the US Open, having won his previous 37 such matches.
The four-hour, 36-minute first-round match finally ended when the fourth-seeded Djokovic's weak return across the net was returned and could do nothing to stop it.
For the first 30 minutes, Djokovic certainly looked the part of a player who would make quick work of the No. 49-ranked player in the world, sprinting out to a 3-0 and 4-1 lead in the first set, before falling apart under a hail of sloppy play, piling up the unforced errors seemingly on every return.

The San Diego Padres were able to build a 6-3 lead over the Tampa Bay Rays thanks to a three-run top of the seventh inning. The Rays responded with a four-run bottom of the seventh inning, which handed the Padres a 7-6 loss at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburgh on Saturday. The loss is critical to San Diego's push for the postseason, but even worse was the loss of Luis Rengifo who was injured and carted off the field in bottom of the seventh.
Bradgley Rodriguez started the seventh inning on the mound for the Padres with a 6-3 lead. San Diego appeared to have the recipe for a win in place. Rodriguez would work the seventh and pass the ball to Adrian Morejon in the eighth and eventually Mason Miller in the ninth if it was still a three-run game to secure a win. Rodriguez immediately got into trouble with a walk and back-to-back singles to load the bases. Yandy Diaz then lined a ball over the head of Jackson Merrill in centerfield that one-hopped the wall. Merrill threw the ball back to the infield where Rengifo took the ball at second base.
Tampa Bay had a runner caught between second and third and Rengifo ran toward him. At the same time, the runner on third base sprinted toward home and when Rengifo planted to stop his momentum and throw to the plate, he suffered what manager Craig Stammen said after the game was a knee sprain. The throw from Rengifo sailed past home plate and allowed the tying runs to score to tie the game at 6-6.
After a long injury delay and Rengifo being driven off the field while lying on his back on the cart, Stammen replaced Rodriguez with Adrian Morejon since there were no outs in the inning and the winning run on third base. Morejon induced a groundout for the first out of the inning and then allowed an intentional walk to setup the double play possibility. Morejon struck out Ryan Vilade for the second out of the inning but then allowed a single to Chandler Simpson which put the Rays ahead of the Padres, 7-6. The inning ended on a strikeout one batter later.
San Diego appeared deflated after the injury to Rengifo and surrendering the lead and went down in order in the top of the eighth. Manny Machado drew a one-out walk in the top of the ninth, but Ty France followed with a strikeout and Merrill grounded out to end the game.

When next the Tennessee ******* ans take the field, it'll matter. For now, it's wait-and-see time at the bottom of the roster.
Led once again by the reliable leg of kicker Joey Slye and not much else, the ******* ans completed the 2026 NFL preseason with a 24-15 loss against the Chicago Bears on Aug. 29. Now it's time for the sprint to the start of the regular season. NFL active rosters must be cut down to 53 players by 5 p.m. CT on Aug. 30, meaning the ******* ans will have to sever ties, at least temporarily, with 38 players before rebuilding a practice squad of up to 17 players on Aug. 31.
The ******* ans rested most all of their starters in this one, a departure from coach Robert Saleh's strategy in the first two weeks of the preseason. The only projected starters who played on offense were rookies Carnell Tate, who only took three snaps, and Fernando Carmona Jr. On defense, contributors like Cedric Gray, Jacob Martin, Marcus Harris and Jordan Elliott played intermittently in the first quarter.
Quarterback Will Levis led the ******* ans' offense throughout the first half, finishing his day 14-for-22 passing with 143 yards. Bears starter Tyson Bagent continued the trend of backup quarterbacks torching the ******* ans' defense in the first half of preseason games, completing 16 of 17 passes for 208 yards and two touchdowns, including a 97-yard score on his first play from scrimmage.
Slye made 11 field goals across three preseason games, the most by any kicker in any preseason since Graham Gano in 2016. Counting preseason games and training camp practices that media have been able to view, Slye has made 36 consecutive field goals.
