Danny Sprinkle and the Washington Huskies are set to host one of the nation's top prospects on an official visit on September 5 when four-star guard Jimmie Haywood returns home.
The 6-foot-3, 170-pound product of Compass Prep in Chandler, Arizona, who is ranked as the No. 128 overall prospect and No. 15 shooting guard in the 2027 class by 247Sports, began his career at Garfield High School in Seattle before moving south.
Now, as Sprinkle prioritizes local talent as he continues to rebuild the program, Haywood could emerge as a top target for the Huskies in the months leading up to signing day.
Among Sprinkle's other top targets in the 2027 class is another local product, five-star guard Jalen Davis out of Bremerton High School, and as the Huskies look to replenish the depth on their roster through the high school ranks, the pair has the potential to become building blocks for their hometown team.
During his visit, Haywood will also likely be accompanied by five-star power forward Ahmed Nur, who is slated to arrive on Sunday, September 6. Washington is also expected to host one of the top players in the 2028 class, five-star guard Jordan Mize, on Friday, September 18.

We are finally done with preseason, and less than two weeks away from the beginning of the regular season. For the New Orleans Saints, this was a pretty busy training camp with position battles sprinkled throughout the team. Many of these battles did not have clear winners, but the Saints still must figure out who they want to bring in for the season, and here is my attempt to do that.
This was such an interesting position battle because Zach Wilson did look like the better QB in game 1, but it went back to square 1 after game 2. It was such a bad performance by both QBs that any momentum was destroyed. Then, in game 3, Rattler did look like the better QB, and I think the Saints might just go with what they're comfortable with.

The RBs became such an interesting situation due to the injuries, but hopefully, mostly everyone will be healthy for Game 1. Alvin Kamara's availability is a bit up in the air, so if he hits the IR, I can see this group only being 4 players, and I do see Devin Neal on the IR. I think, given the injury luck this season, bringing 5 guys makes sense, and all of them did really well in game 3 of the preseason.

The Washington Commanders have endured a lot of changes this offseason. Beyond roster changes, the Commanders also brought in new offensive and defensive coordinators, David Blough and Daronte Jones.
David Blough was already with the Commanders and was promoted from ***** istant quarterbacks coach. Because he was already with the Commanders, the learning curve wasn't as big as it could have been. He has installed a new offensive scheme that changes how the offense will operate and will see Jayden Daniels spend more time in the pocket than using his legs.
Sports Illustrated's Albert Breer has thoughts on how Blough's offense will look and function in 2026.
Blough brings new ideas after serving as the team's ***** istant quarterbacks coach. This won't be the Kliff Kingsbury offense he worked under the past two years. There are sprinkles of that, and the Sean McVay–influenced offense he played in under Kevin O'Connell. But there are more of Ben Johnson's concepts than anyone else's in what the Commanders are doing, if you had to drill down on the specifics. How Daniels is now working cadence, kills and checks presnap are evidence that he can more than handle it. And, quietly, I get the sense that the staff can't wait for the football world to see what Daniels is going to be in 2026—especially since a lot of that world seems to have forgotten 2024.
After the 2025 debacle, the entire NFL world has dismissed Jayden Daniels' 2024 season as if it never happened. As if he didn't play at an elite level before enduring multiple injuries. And the thing with Daniels is that he didn't have any major injuries; he had several minor ones. He didn't have to have surgery; he had to rest and let his body heal. Let's also remember that his major injury was dislocating the elbow in his non-throwing arm, and his throwing arm was never a problem.

Danny Sprinkle and the Washington Huskies are reportedly interested in a newly eligible player.
South Alabama guard Chaze Harris, the reigning Sun Belt Player of the Year, has heard from Washington, SMU, and Seton Hall in the transfer portal after being granted an injunction to become eligible for the 2026-27 season, according to a report from 247Sports' Dushawn London.
Harris' injunction stems from similar cases around the country, granting fourth-year seniors who have recently graduated the opportunity to return to school in the wake of the NCAA's change to a 5-in-5 eligibility model that gave class of 2023 athletes and later the ability to play five years of competition. A similar injunction recently allowed Washington football defensive lineman Ta'ita'i Uiagalelei to return to the Huskies shortly after the beginning of fall practice.
What makes Washington's reported interest more confusing than all of the legalese, however, is that the Huskies' roster is full. Sprinkle's team has 15 players as of right now: Wesley Yates III, Nikola Dzepina, Mady Traore, Lathan Sommerville, Jasir Rencher, Rutgers transfer Harun Zrno, Davidson transfer Parker Friedrichsen, Gonzaga transfer Steele Venters, San Francisco transfer Ryan Beasley, Texas Tech transfer LeJuan Watts, Australian Tristan Devers, Croatian Boris Tišma, Brazilian Wini Braga Silva, freshman Lattimore Ford, and walk-on Brandon Roy Jr.
The Huskies added a 16th player - Dzepina - last season, but were only able to do so because Traore suffered a season-ending injury before the first game. In order to add Harris, a similar situation would need to occur. One possibility is that Rencher will be held out of games this season as he recovers from heart surgery - although he has been participating in summer workouts, there is no clarity on whether he has been cleared for game action. Another is that one of Washington's other players has suffered an as-yet unreported injury serious enough that the Huskies want a former conference player of the year to step in and give the Huskies a boost.

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Scottie Scheffler was back to his dominant form Sunday, turning a two-shot lead into a runaway in the FedEx St. Jude Championship. He closed with a 4-under 66 for an eight-shot victory, the largest in the 68-year history at the TPC Southwind.
Scheffler ended nearly seven months without winning, a season that has been marked by astonishing consistency but only one trophy to show for it from his season opener at The American Express in the California desert.
This was only close for a fleeting moment. After months of little things getting in the way, Scheffler hit a bunker shot on the par-5 third that would have settled a few feet away for a tap-in birdie. But it landed on a sprinkler head, took a hard hop and rolled through the green into the water for bogey.
"I was like, 'Man, when is this going to stop happening?'" Scheffler said.
That shrunk his lead to one shot over Sungjae Im. Then Scheffler made consecutive birdie putts on the fifth and sixth holes and was on his way. Playing in the final group in stifling heat and the most wind all week, Scheffler matched the best score Sunday.

Fickell seemed like a good choice when Wisconsin plucked him from Cincinnati, not long after he took the Bearcats to the playoff. Not all hires that look smart on paper turn out to be good in reality. Wisconsin faced a decision last year amid a second straight losing season: Fire Fickell and fork over millions in buyout bucks, or up the ante on NIL investment. Wisconsin kept Fickell, choosing to pour more into its roster. Chris McIntosh, Wisconsin's athletic director who retained Fickell, left in April for a job at the Big Ten offices. That leaves Fickell on a scorching-hot seat, working for a boss who didn't hire him. It's win or walk, and Fickell knows it.
Lane Kiffin sprinkled an interesting breadcrumb during his introductory news conference at LSU: He revealed three schools tried to hire him away from Mississippi. LSU, Florida and … well, Kiffin didn't reveal the third, but ESPN later reported Florida State was that mystery school. It's no surprise FSU considered ousting Norvell last year, when he served a fourth losing season in six years on the job. Norvell's big buyout (plus Kiffin choosing LSU) protected him, but he can't hide any longer. FSU would owe Norvell a buyout of about $45 million if it fires him after this season. That'll be failure money the Seminoles must stomach if he can't reignite a starved program.

The first two games of this series against Atlanta, the NL East front-runner and a possible postseason opponent should the Yankees go deep in October, have gone almost as well as possible, considering the glaring holes in the New York lineup. Starting pitching has been a huge reason for that success. Max Fried and Gerrit Cole combined to allow two runs through 13.1 innings in the opening contests. Should similar events unfold today, a sweep is tantalizingly close.
The Yankees theoretically have the right guy on the mound to do it. Cam Schlittler is in the middle of a dominant season, one that has him at the head of the pack for the AL Cy Young (or at least neck-and-neck with Dylan Cease). He's admittedly in a bit of a rough spell, with a 3.86 ERA over his last seven starts. But in his final two starts of July, he allowed one run in 13.2 innings prior to his ****** py outing against St. Louis, so let's not fret he's turned into a pumpkin.
Anyone who has been watching Cam knows what to expect. He brings the heat. His four-seamer, cutter, and sinker account for 90 percent of his pitches and he has been overpowering with them. When he does sprinkle in the curve, it is overwhelmingly to lefties. If you are a right-handed hitter, prepare for the gas.
The Braves turn to Grant Homes to prevent the sweep. Holmes is in the middle of a perfectly cromulent season of his own, for what it is worth. Today should be a juxtaposition of styles. While Schlittler attacks with the No. v1, Holmes will throw the kitchen sink at Yankee hitters. Righties can expect to see his slider, four-seamer, and sinker. He attacks lefties, meanwhile, with the slider, four-seamer, cutter, curve, and changeup. All told, he throws the slider more than any other pitch so expect to see it frequently today.
With a righty on the mound, the Yankee lineup is littered with lefties. In fact, it's actually identical to the one that they deployed on Friday against Holmes' fellow righty, Tyler Mahle. Heliot Ramos and beloved rookie George Lombard, Jr. are the only righties starting today. Ben Rice, fresh off ending an 11-game homerless streak, hits second. The aforementioned Lombard, who went oppo taco for a homer of his own yesterday, hits seventh. Newly acquired Luis García Jr. hits cleanup. Perhaps unsurprisingly as a former division rival of Atlanta, García has the most familiarity with Holmes of any Yankee batter, the erstwhile Nat possessing a 4-for-10 line against Holmes, including a longball.

Signing day for the class of 2029 is a long way off, but Danny Sprinkle and the Washington Huskies have already established an in with the nation's No. 1 overall player, JJ Crawford.
The son of Seattle legend and three-time NBA Sixth Man of the Year Jamal Crawford holds over 20 offers after just his first season of high school basketball playing for his father at in-state Rainier Beach High School, where he won a state championship alongside the nation's top prospect in the 2026 class, Tyran Stokes. Even with a long way to go in the recruiting process, several programs have made an early impact in his recruitment.
In an interview with Rivals' Jamie Shaw, Crawford named Alabama, Kentucky, Louisville, Miami, Michigan (his father's alma mater), North Carolina, and USC, alongside the Huskies, as the early standouts in the process.
"At the end of the day, the decision was to go with Crawford as the initial No. 1 player," Shaw wrote in his reasoning for making Crawford the nation's top prospect. "A quick snapshot of Crawford's summer, playing with the NW Rotary Rebels club on Nike's E16 EYBL Circuit, he averaged 17.2 points on staggering 50/50/100 splits—55.4 percent from the field, 56.9 percent from three (5.8 attempts), and 100 percent from the free-throw line."
"He has a way of getting to his spots with excellent balance and a consistent shot load and release. Crawford was equally effective shooting off movement as he was off the dribble or with the feet set. And it was his shooting prowess that also helped him make the USA Basketball team for the U17 World Cup. The 6-foot-7, 225-pound senior is originally from White House, Tennessee, but plays for Prolific Prep in Florida and sits as the No. 13 overall prospect in the 2027 recruiting class according to the 247Sports Composite rankings.
The coveted forward has already made an official visit to UW last October when the football team hosted then-No. 24-ranked Illinois at Husky Stadium—a 42-25 victory over the Illini—a week after coach Danny Sprinkle and the Huskies formally offered him a scholarship.

According to a report from The Spokesman Review's Greg Woods, the Washington Huskies and Washington State Cougars will not play their annual Apple Cup rivalry on the hardwood.
It's the first time since 1917 that the two teams won't meet in the regular season after the Huskies moved from the Pac-12 to the Big Ten following the end of the 2023-24 season; instead, the in-state rivals will play an exhibition game in Seattle at some point this fall.
The Huskies currently lead the series 189-111, and have won the last three matchups against the Cougars, most recently an 81-69 victory in Pullman.
In that contest, the Huskies were led by freshman forward Hannes Steinbach, who posted 14 points and 13 rebounds as part of a stellar season that saw him selected by the Charlotte Hornets with the No. 14 overall pick in June's NBA draft, while sophomore guard Wesley Yates added 26 points and 7 rebounds in the win.
Coach Danny Sprinkle, who grew up a Husky after being born in Pullman because his late father, Bill, played defensive back for Washington in the 1960s, is undefeated in his two games against the Cougars and will have to wait at least another year for an opportunity to earn another win over WSU.

On Thursday, one of the big additions to that group finally made a public announcement. 4-Star defensive lineman Brayden Parks gave his commitment to Marcus Freeman, Charlie Partridge, and Notre Dame via an announcement ceremony on CBS Sports.
The 6'3" 305 pound defensive tackle from Brother Rice High School in Chicago, Illinois, chose the Irish over his other finalist, the Oregon Ducks. Zrno is a 6’7” wing who carved out a regular rotation spot for Rutgers last season, though his shooting percentages were sub-par and he didn’t pile up impressive numbers of rebounds or **** ists. Klask, a graduate of Michigan State in 1999, began his coaching career in the NBA as a video coordinator for the Detroit Pistons in 2000-01 under then-coach Rick Carlisle. He spent the next decade as a scout with the Orlando Magic, working for Doc Rivers and Stan Van Gundy among other notable head coaches for the organization before he advanced into a coaching role.
Most recently, Klask spent eight seasons with the Denver Nuggets as an ***** istant coach, helping develop players like three-time MVP big man Nikola Jokić, while being on staff for the franchise's first championship in 2023.
The hiring of Klask is the second confirmed coaching change this offseason for Sprinkle. During his time at Frank Phillips, Traore also displayed the ability to bring the ball up the floor at times, while shooting 53.4 percent from the floor and 76.4 percent at the free throw line, which led to some high praise from coach Danny Sprinkle regarding his athleticism.
"He's probably the best athlete on our team," Sprinkle said ahead of the 2025-26 season. "When you're talking about just running and jumping, he's a freak. And he's all of 6-foot-11 and long, he's going to be a really good player here."
With big men Lathan Sommerville and Nikola Dzepina back in the fold, professional additions Wini Braga and Boris Tisma, from Brazil and Croatia, respectively, along with Texas Tech transfer LeJuan Watts, the Huskies have plenty of bodies in the frontcourt, and Traore's ability to rebound and stretch the floor could give Sprinkle a much-needed boost in the Big Ten.

Dry weather conditions are leaving football pitches "like concrete" - and could put players at increased risk of injury, Yorkshire clubs have warned.
They said pitches were left waterlogged in winter and then baked hard in summer, and called for more support from sports bodies.
A report by non-profit group Round Our Way, which examines the impact of climate change, said the cost of making pitches safer was putting "significant financial pressure" on grassroots clubs.
Tadcaster Albion FC chairman Andy Charlesworth said: "Last year we ran sprinklers 24 hours a day for six weeks, costing around £2,000 in water alone, yet the pitches were still rock hard. It's like playing football on concrete."
Charlesworth said clubs were paying a rising price to keep pitches playable.

A Pittsburgh ice cream shop helped build hype for a full lineup of MLB games this weekend.
NBC will present Star-Spangled Sunday starting at noon Sunday, featuring 15 MLB games, including the Pirates' matchup against the Nationals at 1 p.m.
Friday, to get Pittsburghers excited, Dave and Andy's in Oakland gave away complimentary Star-Spangled Sundaes.
The owners tell use they took inspiration from the Pittsburgh cookie table in designing the delight, which combines cookie pieces with strawberry preserves and patriotic sprinkles on top.
"We wanted to honor a Pittsburgh tradition and make it something special for this day," Sarah Kasten said.

Picking Jeremiah Smith to be Big Ten offensive player of the year is easy pick, but it also feels like the most likely one. The rare receiving prospect finished last season with 1,243 yards and 12 touchdowns and he likely would have far exceeded his 2024 totals had he played an equal number of games. Smith has the whole package — a complete route tree, top-tier athleticism and sure hands — so defenses are truly at his mercy every game.
He’s already projected to be one of the top picks in the first round of next year’s NFL Draft, but there’s no doubt he wants to put on a show in what is more than likely his final college season. Don’t be surprised to see Smith explode and put together a historic season as he stakes his claim as one of the greatest college receivers of all time.

Listed at 6-foot-3 and 200 pounds, Rose is the No. 25-ranked prospect and the No. 4 combo guard in the nation—based on 247Sports' Composite rankings—in next year's class and the sixth-highest rated recruit to hold an offer from UW.
Recently selected to participate with Team USA's U17 Team in Colorado Springs next month, Rose has continued to rise this spring after a dominant sophomore season that saw him average 15.8 points, 4.8 rebounds, and 4.4 **** ists per game.
UW has offered six players ranked in the top 25 of the 2028 247Sports Composite rankings, including Rose, a sign that third-year coach Danny Sprinkle still sees the value of recruiting the high school ranks while utilizing transfers and the international pool to supplement the roster.
This coming season the Huskies will feature only freshman prep signee, forward/guard Lattimore Ford from Mount Si in Snoqualmie, Wash., with three international players—Tristan Devers (Australia), Wini Silva (Brazil) and Boris Tisma (Croatia)—and four transfers—Parker Freidrisen, Steele Venters, Ryan Beasley and LeJuan Watts—to pair with returning players Wesley Yates III, Lathan Sommerville, Nikola Dzparzia, Mady Traore and BJ Roy.

After stumbling to a series-opening loss to the Red Sox on Thursday, the Yankees found themselves completely shut down by Payton Tolle as the Red Sox jumped on a struggling Will Warren to clinch a breezy 6-1 victory. They've guaranteed themselves at least a series split; now it's up to the Bombers to claw back the final two decisions. The effort will begin with Gerrit Cole on the ***** p.
Like the Yankee lineup, Cole is looking for a mulligan. He struggled through 4,1 innings as a meek Tiger offense awoke for five runs on nine hits against him. While there were flashes of the usual Cole between the loud noises, he was not able to execute big pitches in key spots. The Red Sox offense has been doing their homework–they have not looked overawed by the task of facing Yankee pitching in this series.
Cole hasn't pitched at Fenway Park in nearly four years; you have to go back to September 13, 2022, in which he struck out 10 batters but allowed four runs in a no-decision. He has not had success in Boston in his career; his career ERA there is 5.52, and that's before you include his two postseason losses there. But every start is a blank slate.
Jake Bennett is another of the Red Sox' seemingly limitless supply of talented young left-handers: the third New York will face in this series. Bennett took the rotation spot of the struggling Brayan Bello, and has turned in a solid 3.71 ERA in his first five turns. Last time out he dazzled with six scoreless innings against the Rockies, but Boston got walked off in the ninth inning on a triple by Jake McCarthy. Bennett features a pair of fastballs and a changeup in addition to three other pitches he sprinkles in every so often. He attacks same-siders with the sinker but favors a more balanced three-pitch approach against righties.
Ben Rice draws back into the starting lineup today; he'll bat second after Paul Goldschmidt. Amed Rosario hits third and returns to third base. Ward will join Jayden Daniels, Joe Flacco, and Baker Mayfield on the show, which will premiere on July 14. He will be the first rookie quarterback documented on a series that has featured the likes of Patrick Mahomes, Kirk Cousins, Joe Burrow, and Jared Goff.
Mostly filmed in the 2025 season, this show will document Ward’s transition from college star to the NFL and document the ups and downs of his tumultuous rookie season. Filmed between July 2025 and April 2026, with some draft day stuff sprinkled in, Ward will have a chance to expand the **** ans’ audience and hopefully change the tune of those who only look at a box score.
Coming off an uneven season full of growing pains, it will be interesting to get a peek behind the curtain and see how Ward handled the rocky season, which was full of disappointment, and to act as the perfect tonic for this quiet period during the offseason.
