NEW YORK (AP) — Want to know how good ****** Gould's teams were at Stanford? The answer was right there on his shoes.
Gould returned to the U.S. Open on Saturday and was honored during the first match of the night session. The longtime coach, who had John McEnroe among his many future pros, hadn't been back to the event in years but his former players wanted to celebrate him this year.
Gould wore specially designed Nike sneakers that were made for him for the occasion. White and cardinal red, one had a 17 on it, signifying his total of NCAA national championships, with his record of 776-148 on the tongue.
"I loved coaching. I really enjoyed working with the age group, especially the 18 to 22-year-olds," Gould said. "It's the first time away from their parents, and you want to be independent, and the other hand, you can't quite be, and sometimes some poor advice to help navigate things with you in a subtle way."
Gould was at Stanford from 1966-2004. Only four coaches at any level of college, men's or women's, won as many national ****** les, and his players won 17 individual NCAA championships. Some of his best, topped by McEnroe and twins Mike and Bob Bryan, went on to win multiple Grand Slam ****** les.

The Boston Celtics have a long tradition of giving back to the city they play their NBA basketball in, and reserve forward Jordan Walsh helped keep that tradition going with a back-to-school event held this past Thursday (Sep. 3) that saw 15 youths from the area treated to a shopping spree at a local sporting goods store, as well as free haircuts from ****** le City Barbers and free sneakers from New Balance.
Walsh has been leading this event annually since he was picked up by Boston in the 2023 NBA Draft. "I think that if you have the opportunity to give back, then you should," offered the DeSoto, Texas native via team reporter Taylor Snow. "I think there needs to be a lot more people who are going out of their comfort zone, who are in places of power or in places where they can motivate other people, and use their platform for good."
"It should always be something that you keep in the back of your mind because you weren't born at the top, you weren't born at the level you're at," he added. "So if you had to grind to get there, there's people who are trying to grind get there as well. So you should show your support and love, and try to support them doing the same thing."
Walsh isn't just appreciative of that ethos from afar; he has been applying it to his own journey as a player as well. "It means that instead of just being a guy who comes into the league and is gone after three years, that I have some security to stick around," he said.
"There are bigger things that I want to achieve, but it's huge keeping that door open to be able to achieve the things that I want to get to," he added. "I want to be able to contribute, and I want to be able to create my own shots (and) ... to be able to be called on when we need to get a bucket, and also still do the same things on defense that I've been doing, because that's what got me here."

But in 2026, it means that the companies have effectively become public shells for vaguely worded AI and data center plays.
To that end, GoPro stock soared about 50% on Tuesday before settling and is up nearly 100% over the last week after Starman Optical, a photonics company, agreed to acquire every Red Bull drinker's favorite helmet-mounted camera in a $285 million transaction, or about $1.14 per share. GoPro shareholders will retain about 10% of the company, and the deal will also wipe about $92 million of debt off the balance sheet.
The deal's expected to close by the end of this year, the companies say.

He was a 6-time All-Star and led Toronto to a championship, alongside current Sixers coach Nick Nurse, in 2019, and is considered the greatest Raptor of all time.

Another clip showed them signing autographs before getting into a golf cart and driving off with the two-time U.S. Open champion's arm on the social media star's leg. Nike's (NKE) dreadful stretch of earnings under the thought-to-be savior CEO Elliott Hill may not be ending anytime soon, judging by what key partner ******* 's Sporting Goods (DKS) said this week.
"I think we have the [footwear] hangover right now," ******* 's Sporting Goods executive chairman Ed Stack told ******* ysts on his earnings call Tuesday. "We are going through that with these legacy silhouettes. The new styles of shoes that are coming out from brands across the board — whether it be Nike, whether it be Adidas, whether it be On, HOKA — we are going through that reset right now."
Lifestyle sneakers from Nike, with minimal fashion looks, have been solid performers for ******* 's in recent years, but they are quickly falling out of favor with consumers.
In turn, Nike is taking aggressive markdowns to clear slow-moving product. This has led competing brands to replicate these tactics, which is sparking a "domino effect of pricing pressure on styles of yesterday," Jefferies ******* yst Jonathan Matuszewski said.
"This is unfortunate for ******* 's given their high reliance on Nike and growing reliance on other emerging brands in recent years," Matuszewski wrote in a note.
