Is the "Raw after SummerSlam" a thing? We all know WWE makes a big deal out of the first "Raw after 'Mania," usually setting up a few surprises to mark the occasion. For this year's post-SummerSlam show, they'd already promised at least one big return (quite literally). But wouldn't you know it, there wound up being a few other twists along the road as the show rolled through Des Moines, Iowa.
Here's what went down on this week's installment of pro-wrestling's longest-running show.
Tonight's show kicked off with the WWE World Heavyweight Champion making his way to the ring to bask in the glory of Sunday night's superb victory over Seth Rollins. Is it me or did Roman Reigns sound a little husky at first? (Which is perhaps unsurprising after that slobberknocker of a match from last night.)
Of course, the smart folks in Iowa knew the drill: when a victorious champion turns up to gloat, you just know he or she is going to get interrupted by his next challenger before long. But how many of them expected LA Knight to be the man to shoot his shot? Judging by the massive pop that accompanied the start of his theme music, not many.
"The Megastar" was also riding high on his successes from the weekend, having pinned Jey Uso to win the Babyfaces vs. Bloodline match. He worked his usual magic on the mic and even got a chuckle out of Reigns with his impression of The Shield's entrance music. The fact that Knight was wearing his trademark shades brought back instant memories of the last time these two collided, back at Crown Jewel in 2022.

Another trade deadline has passed.
As has become customary in recent years — particularly with the expanded postseason making it more difficult to distinguish who should be buying and selling — most MLB teams waited until the final 48 hours to ramp up their trade activity. More than 40 trades were executed on deadline day alone, with another handful of deals completed in the week leading up to the final buzzer, including the seismic swap sending two-time Cy Young Award winner Tarik Skubal to the superteam known as the Los Angeles Dodgers.
With the deadline behind us, it's time to conduct our annual exercise of ranking (nearly) all of the deals that went down since the All-Star break, when trade activity picks up around the league.
Let's get to it.
50. Dodgers acquire C Ben Rortvedt from Mets for RP Chayce McDermott
49. Dodgers acquire C Hunter Feduccia, RP Jacob Kmatz from Rays for OF Jack Suwinski, international bonus pool money
48. Dodgers acquire SP Kris Bubic from Royals for RP Carlos Duran

Sana and Arhem knew going into marriage that money would be a challenge. What Sana didn't know until a month before their wedding was that Arhem had accumulated $30,000 in credit card debt.
When Arhem disclosed it, Sana was devastated — by both the amount and the secret. Then the debt grew again. By the time the couple appeared on Ramit Sethi's Money for Couples podcast, their total debt had reached $165,000 against a combined income of $188,000 — and the financial betrayal had nearly ended the relationship.

There's nothing like waiting until the last minute, and that's exactly what happened on an action-packed day across the MLB as the trade deadline came and went at 4 p.m. MDT on Monday.
The Rockies waded into the chaos, making three of their four trades in the final hours on Monday, but didn't end up dealing Hunter Goodman, who weighed heavily in the trade rumor mill. Colorado started the day by dealing center fielder Brenton Doyle to the Chicago White Sox, then sent former starter and current RHP reliever Antonio Senzatela to the Milwaukee Brewers and finished off by shipping right-handed reliever Victor Vodnik to the Miami Marlins. Earlier in July, the Rockies traded RHP reliever Seth Halvorsen to the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Now, it's time to get back to baseball. That is, if the weather will allow it.
After notching triple digits again on Monday, a storm appears to be rolling in.
Stay tuned to Purple Row for any weather updates.

TKO Group Holdings LLC, the parent company to UFC and WWE, reported 2026 second-quarter revenue of $1.547 billion during an earnings call with investors on Monday. That included an increase of $54.1 million in net income from the year's first quarter, producing a total of $303.9 million in TKO net income from April to June 2026.
As expected, the company reported a loss of approximately $30 million on the UFC Freedom 250 event at the White House in June, but touted the "earned media" and the value of the connections made as a result of that event.
"In the days leading up the UFC Freedom 250, we met with dozens of existing and new contacts in Washington D.C., a clear example of how our access and the attractiveness of our events can translate into opportunity," said Seth Zaslow, head of investor relations for TKO.
Both UFC and WWE saw increased revenue from the second quarter of 2025, but it was the UFC that drove the bulk of that, increasing its revenue by $119.8 million to produce a total of $535.7 million. WWE experienced an increase of $64.7 million, hitting a second-quarter total of $620.9 million.
Adjusted EBITDA (earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization) also increased 15% on the UFC side, to $280.4 million, but those numbers were partially offset by "higher athlete, production and other event-related costs, which were largely driven by the UFC Freedom 250 event," according to the report.

Phillies beat trade deadline buzzer with trade for Athletics' 25-year-old outfielder originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
The Philadelphia Phillies came into MLB trade deadline day without having made a single move yet. But they began the day with two significant trades, one for Luis Arraez and Caleb Kilian, and another for Brooks Raley.
But, they could've used another starting pitcher, another reliever, and most importantly, a right-handed hitting outfielder. Well, it took until the buzzer, but the Phillies did make a trade for an outfielder.
According to Jayson Stark of The Athletic, the Phillies agreed to a trade with the Athletics, sending reliever Seth Johnson to the A's in exchange for 25-year-old outfielder Colby Thomas.
"The Phillies made a minor-league trade at the buzzer," Stark reports. "RHP Seth Johnson to the A's for outfielder Colby Thomas. But ran out of time shopping for one more starter or reliever."

Aug. 3 (UPI) -- Roman Reigns ended his feud with Seth Rollins and Kevin Owens returned in a big way at WWE SummerSlam on Sunday.
Reigns successfully defended his World Heavyweight Championship against Rollins in the main event on Sunday.
The match paid homage to Reigns and Rollins' storied history starting with their time together as iconic group The Shield. Reigns and Rollins performed each other moves and even maneuvers from missing Shield member Dean Ambrose, who now wrestles for AEW as Jon Moxley.
Reigns won the match after he was able to dodge a top rope Stomp from Rollins followed by three Spears to earn the three count. Afterwards, Reigns and Rollins performed the signature Shield fist ****** p in the middle of the ring.
Kevin Owens, who has been out of action for over a year due to injury, was added to the No. 1 contender's match between Sami Zayn and Finn Balor. The bout was turned into a Fatal 4-Way by SmackDown general manager Nick Aldis, who also added Gunther into the mix.

ESPN's Jeff Borzello has a long column up on that explores the impact of Judge Charlotte Sweeney's decision to give every member of the 2022 class a fifth year of eligibility.
First up: the NCAA will certainly appeal the decision, and might win that appeal. So it's not a done deal yet.
But for now, everyone has to react, and judging by Borzello's article, coaches have no idea how to deal with this level of uncertainty.
Getting what amounts to a second portal in August might be good for some programs – Gonzaga lost their point guard recently and needs a new one – but for the overall sport, it's terrible. Just look at this quote from a Big 12 ******* istant coach: "Every day you wake up, it's a new apocalypse in college basketball."
Guys like former NC State wing Darrion Williams, Miami's Malik Reanu, and former Tar Heels Seth Trimble, Cade Tyson, and Jalen Washington could all land on a team for next year – in August (Duke may see Washington soon: Tennessee is rumored to be the leader).

With four training camp practices complete for the Indianapolis Colts, let's take a look at each positional battle taking place and predict the winner based on what we currently know.
The caveat, of course, is that there are still several weeks of practices and preseason games remaining that can change the current landscape. Also, how the coaches are evaluating these competitions behind the scenes could differ from how the outside world sees things.
That said, what the starting lineups look like in practice and which players are making regular plays provide us with some potential insights into where things stand.
Shane Steichen said on Day 1 that Leonard and Anthony Richardson would rotate with the second-team offense, but on Saturday, Leonard took the bulk of those snaps.
Rookie Seth McGowan has seemingly been the steadier of the two, with Giddens dealing with dropped passes. That said, Giddens bounced back on Saturday and seems to offer more playmaking upside.

WWE SummerSlam Night 2 is here! After a wild Night 1, WWE returns to U.S. Bank Stadium to close out SummerSlam weekend with a six-match card that features four championship contests.
Closing out the show is the latest meeting between stablemates-turned-rivals Roman Reigns and Seth Rollins. Tonight marks the first singles match since 2022 between Reigns, who has been World Heavyweight Champion since winning in the main event of WrestleMania 42 in April, and Rollins.
A new WWE Women's Champion will also be crowned as Rhea Ripley has been unable to compete due to injury. Charlotte Flair, Jade Cargill, Tiffany Stratton, Chelsea Green and Lash Legend will square off in a ladder match to be named interim champion as Ripley recovers.
Both of WWE's men's midcard championships are on the line as well, as Trick Williams defends his U.S. Championship against the newly returned Baron Corbin and Penta defends his Intercontinental Championship against Chad Gable, who has parlayed his run as El Grande Americano into the most significant momentum he's had as a singles competitor.
The final two matches both have stakes attached, as Finn Balor and Sami Zayn will battle to become the No. 1 content for the Undisputed WWE Championship, and Danhausen and Dominik Mysterio will likely end the Judgment Day's feud with the popular star in a match where the winner gets $100,000 human monies.

JENNERSTOWN — A duo of Somerset County drivers earned wins, while two other competitors saw victory lane for the first time in years, Saturday, Aug. 1 at Jennerstown Speedway.
The night kicked off with a dandy in the Somerset Trust Fast 4s. Bradley Marsh raced between the leaders and took the advantage at the green flag. He led the first five laps of the 15-lap feature, but Seth Nedrow dashed past Marsh for the lead with nine to go.
The two battled, sometimes door-to-door, down the stretch. A week after suffering a bad crash right before taking the checkered flag, Nedrow exacted some revenge with his third win of the season.

During the Indianapolis Colts' third training camp practice on Friday, there were some noteworthy developments at a pair of positional battles taking place.
The first came at wide receiver, where, most notably, the WR3 role is up for grabs. Emerging on Friday was Nick Westbrook-Ikhine, a free agent signee by the Colts.
According to Kevin Bowen of 107.5 The Fan, Westbrook-Ikhine hauled in two completions, including an "underthrown deep ball" from Daniel Jones. His second reception came with Sauce Gardner in coverage.
The Indy Star's Joel Erickson wrote that Westbrook-Ikhine "has made the most of his plays" through three training camp practices, using his size to his advantage. Erickson added that this was the first "big day" for any player in the WR3 competition.
Competing for this spot on the depth chart are primarily DJ Giddens and Seth McGowan. For Giddens, however, it's been a ****** py start, with him dropping a pass on Friday -- something that's occurred one other time in three practices as well.

August is kicking off with a bang as WWE hosts SummerSlam across two nights this weekend in Minnesota. It marks the second time WWE has shifted its second-biggest PLE of the year to a two-night format, and the show has big shoes to fill after last year's surprise-filled show.
As usual, the Uncrowned Horsemen — Kel Dansby, Robert Jackman, Drake Riggs and Anthony Sulla-Heffinger — are here to break down the entire event, answer burning questions and make predictions for the 12-match card. Let's ride!
CM Punk vs. Cody Rhodes for the Undisputed WWE Championship headlines Night 1.
Kel Dansby: I haven't been genuinely excited for a Roman Reigns ****** le match in a long time, so Cody Rhodes vs. CM Punk wins by default.
It has everything you want in a SummerSlam main event: two of WWE's biggest stars, a strong story, and several believable directions depending on who leaves as champion. Roman Reigns vs. Seth Rollins, on the other hand, feels like it's leaning heavily on Shield nostalgia. If we're being honest, we're right back to Reigns relying on Bloodline interference to keep the ****** le. At this point, it doesn't feel like Rollins has much of a chance to dethrone him.

One or the other, however, could pull off the upset as elder statesmen in their respectivedivisions of light heavyweight and heavyweight. The "fightinguncle" movement is still very much in play.

Having turned 43 in February, former champ Blachowicz isunquestionably on the tail end of his UFC career. Major League Baseball's trade deadline is just a few days away. On Monday, August 3rd at 4:00 PM MT, the Colorado Rockies will hopefully have had one of their most active deadlines in recent memory.
With a new front office helmed by president of baseball operations Paul DePodesta and general manager Josh Byrnes, it has been indicated that the Rockies are open for business. Many players–especially veterans and those on expiring contracts–have been designated as available and are even reportedly drawing interest from teams throughout the league.
The Rockies made their first trade last week to signal the start of the trade season. Right-handed reliever Seth Halvorsen was sent in a surprising and rare trade to the Los Angeles Dodgers in exchange for two prospects. Last season, the Rockies similarly made their first big move before the deadline. However, under former general manager Bill Schmidt they ended up making just three total trades. Let's take a look back at those trades and see where the bar sits for this season's deadline.
In the week preceding last year's deadline, the Rockies signaled change might be coming when they dealt long-time third baseman and face of the franchise Ryan McMahon to the New York Yankees in exchange for pitching prospects Josh Grosz and Griffin Herring.
Grosz showed off his strikeout stuff in High-A Spokane to finish the 2025 season with 41 strikeouts in 38.1 innings. However, he struggled with his command and ended the season with a 5.87 ERA. The Rockies' new front office then traded Grosz this off-season to the Arizona Diamondbacks for outfielder Jake McCarthy. McCarthy has in turn become one of the Rockies' most valuable contributors and is now potentially on the market t be traded again within the next few days.

The Georgia Bulldogs are predicted to close the deal on one of their top remaining recruiting targets in the class of 2027. Georgia is projected to land a commitment from four-star safety recruit Seth Williams, per Benjamin Wolk of 247Sports.
Georgia is predicted to beat out the Clemson Tigers for the elite safety prospect. Georgia and Clemson are Williams' final two schools. Both programs will find out soon enough with Williams announcing his commitment on Friday, July 31.
Williams plays high school football for Lakeside High School in Atlanta, Georgia. The Peach State star is the No. 19 safety prospect in the country and the No. 19 recruit in Georgia. The 6-foot-2, 180-pound defensive back is the No. 409 recruit in the country, per the 247Sports Composite rankings.
The Bulldogs and coach Kirby Smart would love to keep Williams home. Georgia has only one defensive back commitment in the 2027 recruiting class, so the Dawgs are looking to add more. Georgia has 19 total commitments in the 2027 cycle including one from four-star safety Adryan Cole. Georgia has America's No. 12 recruiting class.
Clemson is not quite as desperate for defensive back commitments as Georgia. The Tigers have five commitments in the secondary. Clemson has made Williams a priority. Clemson has invested a lot of time and resources into recruiting Williams, but it appears that may not be enough. Clemson and coach Dabo Swinney have the No. 13 recruiting class in the country. The Tigers have 25 commitments.

U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Mike Waltz on Sunday blamed former President Biden for the Pentagon being low on munitions but denied that the depletion is negatively impacting the war with Iran.
"We have to take a step back here in that a lot of stockpiles were depleted not only from what we gave Ukraine over the last … four or five years," Waltz told host Kristen Welker on NBC News's "Meet the Press."
Waltz also said Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth "inherited a depleted situation" from the Biden administration due to U.S. strikes on the Houthis — which the Trump administration carried out for nearly two months last year due to the Yemeni terrorist group targeting commercial ships in the Red Sea.
NBC News reported Friday that U.S. military commanders have been selectively choosing which Iranian missiles and explosive-packed drones to intercept amid an effort to preserve the Pentagon's diminishing supply of weapons that block projectiles from reaching their targets.
Military ***** ysts also ***** s it could take the U.S. four years or more to restock its weapons inventory. But that is only if Congress provides the administration with additional funding for the war.

Northrop Grumman Corporation (NYSE:NOC) beat quarterly expectations, secured $20 billion in net awards, reported record backlog, and raised its 2026 sales and MTM-adjusted earnings forecasts. Yet the shares closed 2.23% lower at $512.29 on July 21.
The contradiction becomes clearer when the quality of the earnings beat is separated from the size of the order book. ***** ysts said a substantially lower tax rate drove much of the upside, while operating income declined in two of Northrop's four segments. The company also left its segment operating-income and adjusted free-cash-flow forecasts unchanged.
JPMorgan ***** yst Seth Seifman pointed to the market's "tendency to punish execution challenges." That appears to capture the reaction. Investors did not question whether Northrop can win more work. They questioned how much profit it can retain while delivering that work and expanding production.
Are the latest program charges temporary costs of meeting surging defense demand, or evidence that Northrop's backlog is growing faster than its ability to execute profitably?
The bull case is that Northrop's execution problems remain concentrated in a few programs, while the broader demand environment is becoming stronger.

Retired wrestling legend AJ Styles made a bold point calling out WWE for not pushing new star Bron Breakker fast enough into the world ***** le scene. Breakker was viewed as a "can't miss prospect" after an epic NXT run and a hot start to his main roster career. WWE seemed ready to push Breakker to the top after storylines with Paul Heyman, Seth Rollins and CM Punk. Recent months have seen things slowing for Breakker and seemingly distanced from the main event scene.
Styles had the following to say on his podcast about being confused at WWE's logic:
"How long are we going to wait for Bron Breakker to be Heavyweight Champion? He should be next. I think that he's definitely a star right now. Why we haven't put it on him to put the rocket up his ***** and send him to the freaking moon? I don't know why we haven't done that because he is the destroyer."
The current role of Styles sees him retired from in-ring competition but active in various background roles for WWE. Styles uses his experience of well over two decades to contribute via coaching, training and scouting for the company. The new role likely makes it more pivotal on AJ's side to see obvious new stars getting truly elevated.
One noteworthy subject here goes back to WWE's overall main event. Roman Reigns, CM Punk, and Cody Rhodes are treated on a full tier above the rest of the roster. Young stars must be presented on an equal level to these three or fans will never view them as a top name.

At 78, Joe Manchin is stepping back into politics.
A year and a half after leaving office fed up with the major parties, the former West Virginia senator is launching a new effort, the Independent Leadership Council, to recruit and support independent candidates across the country.
"We're not trying to start another party," Manchin told CNN in an interview with his daughter, who's also leading the council. "We're trying to get a person who can be committed to – and totally committed to – being an independent with an independent voice. They can vote with Democrats and Republicans when they're right and speak out against them when they're wrong."
Manchin kicked off the effort Thursday by convening candidates in West Virginia. Attendees include California Rep. Kevin Kiley, a former Republican running for reelection as an independent; Seth Bodnar, an independent candidate for Senate in Montana; and Michael Bridgford, an independent candidate for the House in Iowa. The group is also eying races in Alaska and Washington.
