Just when it seemed we wouldn't have to spend our Sunday dredging up ghosts of past transfers, the Italian media has breathed new life into the seemingly moribund Rodrigo Mora saga. The 19-year-old Porto midfielder popped up on Roma's radar earlier this month, whipping fans into a frenzy with visions of a Portuguese Messi dancing through our heads.
Although prohibitively expensive by Roma's customary standards, the Giallorossi were poised to smash their transfer record, handing over €50 million to acquire the talented teenager, albeit in a convoluted fashion. Unwilling or unable to pay the full freight for Mora, Sporting Director Tony D'Amico spent the better part of a week blazing creative paths toward the fifty-million mark.

It was a pretty typical preseason opener. We didn't see many starters; some rookies stood out, and other veterans are still trying to find their places on the roster. The score didn't matter much, but it was still quite rewarding to see the 2026 Kansas City Chiefs take the field for the first time against another NFL team.
Early returns on the rookie class were largely positive, but there were some depth concerns exposed on both sides of the ball. We won't remember much about this game, but some of these guys certainly left impressions that could have significant implications on the initial roster.

On a hot Nashville afternoon, the ******* ans got some good work in and began to address some of the issues that had popped up against the 49ers. Quarterback Cam Ward warmed up after a slow start and looked poised and in control, as the offense looked better than they did on Thursday.

After back-to-back disappointing seasons, it looks like the Dallas Cowboys are poised to enter the playoff hunt once again in the NFC. While injuries derailed them in 2024, last year had a much simpler explanation.
The defense was in shambles for most of the year, and it was easy to see why. Trading a then four-time, now five-time Pro Bowler like Micah Parsons can be a culture shock to his side of the ball, but owner and general manager Jerry Jones still believes he made the right choice.
Even as the contract negotiation dragged on, it felt inevitable that Parsons would return to the Cowboys. A former first-round pick, he had been a perennial Defensive Player of the Year contender and had three All-Pro selections in his first four seasons.
But right before their season got underway, the league was hit with a bombshell when they traded the Penn State product to the Green Bay Packers. As he went on to have an excellent season before a torn ACL, the Cowboys collapsed on the defensive side of the ball.

It was every bit as tough as predicted. Pafos had already demonstrated their formidable home strength against Hajduk Split, overturning the first-leg result. Against us, the Cypriots, spurred on by a boisterous crowd in the sweltering heat, were poised to put on a spectacular performance. The fact that the port city team is a force to be reckoned with in front of their own fans was already evident last season: in the 2025/26 UEFA Champions League group stage, they earned seven of their nine points at home. The Michigan Wolverines are coming off one of the noisiest offseasons in all of college football. Head coach Sherrone Moore was dismissed from the program after the Univeristy determined that he had been involved in an "inappropriate relationship" with a staffer.
"U-M head football coach Sherrone Moore has been terminated, with cause, effective immediately," the university announced in December. "Following a University investigation, credible evidence was found that Coach Moore engaged in an inappropriate relationship with a staff member."
The university then hired Jenner & Block, a Chicago-based law firm, to launch a full investigation into the practices and culture of its athletic department and the scandals that have impacted it recently. Ultimately, the investigation led to the school and athletic director Warde Manuel agreeing to mutually part ways at the end of the year.
Now, the school and football program are looking to turn the corner, a process that started with the hire of the well-respected Kyle Whittingham as the football program's new head coach. Whittingham is inheriting a team that went 9-4 last season, including a loss to the Texas Longhorns in the Cheez-It Citrus Bowl. For Whittingham to get the Wolverines back to ****** le contention, he'll have to unlock the full potential of quarterback Bryce Underwood, the number-one overall in the 2025 recruiting class.
Luckily for Michigan fans, he's poised to do just that.

Last December, USC signed the No. 1 recruiting class in college football. Now, those signees are true freshmen looking to immediately make an impact for the Trojans.
So which of them could contribute right away? In a recent story, Billy Tucker of ESPN listed the 51 true freshmen most poised to make an impact this college football season. Included on the list was USC defensive lineman Luke Wafle.
"Wafle surged to No. 24 on the SC Next 300 and earned his fifth star late in the recruiting process," Tucker wrote. "He's one of the most college-ready defensive linemen in this class, and the Trojans need him now. Listed at 6-6, 265 pounds, he pairs pad leverage with a quick get-off that stresses tackles off the edge, and his motor simply never quits. The 2027 NFL Draft will take place in Washington, D.C. next year. In that draft, the Vikings still have their first-round pick, but a lot could happen in the next 9 months. Before then, though, there will be plenty of speculation and buildup for the team and who they may add to the roster through the draft in a class that many are saying could be one of generational wealth.
Pro Football Network recently released the latest 2027 NFL mock draft of the cycle. Within that mock, they have the Vikings landing SEC running back Kewan Lacy. The All-American running back is poised for a big season in the toughest conference, and it could lead to him becoming the top running back in the class.
They explain the Lacy pick, writing, "Less than a year out from the 2027 NFL Draft, there doesn't appear to be a clear favorite for the class's RB1 mantle. That doesn't mean there's no talent, though, as Ole Miss's Kewan Lacy showed in 2025. Lacy led the FBS in carries (306) and led the SEC in rushing touchdowns (24), while displaying dual-threat ability with 29 receptions for 177 yards. The Minnesota Vikings are in desperate need of a premium rusher if they're to climb back to relevance in the NFC."
Lacy would become the instant RB1 with the Vikings if he landed with them. Arguably, he could get that type of buzz anywhere, but the Vikings would be a homerun spot for him and Minnesota would benefit by allowing them to establush a run game once again.

The 18-year-old Olympic gold medalist won her second straight national ******* le on Sunday, rallying from fourth during the final day of competition with four poised and professional routines. Her two-day total of 111.950 was more than a point clear of runner-up Claire Pease, making Rivera the first American woman not named Simone Biles to go back-to-back since former world and Olympic champion Jordyn Wieber did it in 2010 and 2011.
Rivera was the self-described "underdog" in Paris two years ago, when she joined an experienced group that helped the Americans win their third team gold in four Games. While some of her Olympic teammates — Biles and Suni Lee chief among them — have been on an extended break (though Lee announced last month she has started training for a return to competition), Rivera has pressed on.
She edged Leanne Wong in New Orleans last year, but Rivera's chances for a repeat seemed to be in trouble after she fell face-first into the mat after missing a release on uneven bars on Thursday.
No matter, Rivera began Sunday on bars and put together a gritty set in which she fought through a mini-stall near the end and gave coach Valeri Liukin a "what are you gonna do?" shrug after a dismount that included a small step.

Ty Gibbs continued to build momentum toward the NASCAR Cup Series Chase on Sunday, delivering another statement victory for Joe Gibbs Racing with a commanding performance in the Iowa Corn 350 at Iowa Speedway.
The win marked Gibbs' second victory of the 2026 season and capped an afternoon in which he overcame early competition from Ryan Blaney and teammate Christopher Bell before taking control when it mattered most. The FSU Seminoles wrapped up their annual trip to the University of North Florida on Saturday as they prepare for their second scrimmage of fall camp. They released some highlights from Saturday's practice, and a pair of true freshmen made two nice plays.
Wide receiver Jasen Lopez, who has been one of the stars of camp, made another excellent catch. This time he used just one hand to snag a perfectly thrown ball from quarterback Kevin Sperry that the defender never even saw. He ended up right next to former FSU quarterback Jordan Travis after the play, who dapped him up after the impressive catch.
The defense also made some great plays, with cornerback Chuck Kenon making a leaping interception of a pass that was intended for freshman wide receiver Darryon Williams.
It was the second excellent catch by Lopez that FSU highlighted on social media. He made a contested catch over cornerback Charles Lester III and safety CJ Richard Jr. on Thursday. He has received plenty of praise from the coaching staff since joining the team and appears poised to be a key part of the offense.

Wide receiver Jasen Lopez, who has been one of the stars of camp, made another excellent catch. This time he used just one hand to snag a perfectly thrown ball from quarterback Kevin Sperry that the defender never even saw. He ended up right next to former FSU quarterback Jordan Travis after the play, who dapped him up after the impressive catch.
The defense also made some great plays, with cornerback Chuck Kenon making a leaping interception of a pass that was intended for freshman wide receiver Darryon Williams.
It was the second excellent catch by Lopez that FSU highlighted on social media. He made a contested catch over cornerback Charles Lester III and safety CJ Richard Jr. on Thursday. He has received plenty of praise from the coaching staff since joining the team and appears poised to be a key part of the offense.

Washington Huskies tight end Decker DeGraaf was one of 37 players in the country named to the 2026 preseason John Mackey Award watch list on Wednesday.
DeGraaf, a 6-foot-4 and 245-pound true junior, was also on the list ahead of the 2025 season, when he doubled his catch total from his freshman year and proved to be a dependable weapon for Demond Williams Jr. behind Denzel Boston and Dezmen Roebuck.
The former four-star recruit out of Glendora High School finished third on the team in receptions (32) and receiving yards (360) while being tied with running back Jonah Coleman for third with a pair of touchdown catches.
The other four UW players to catch one touchdown catch in 2025—Quentin Moore, Omari Evans, Audric Harris and Raiden Vines-Bright—aren't with the program, meaning someone will have to increase their production in 2026, and DeGraaf is poised to be that player.
"I definitely want to be a big part of this offense," DeGraaf said on Tuesday. "Definitely going into year three with Demond, we've built a lot of chemistry. He's looking for me, I'm looking for him. We have a really good offense. I think we have a lot of guys—me, Dez, Rashid, Christian Moss, a lot of the young guys. I think a lot of them are going to step up and make a big impact this year."

Former Auburn quarterback Ashton Daniels produced solid numbers over the final portion of Auburn football's 2025 season. However, the Tigers' quarterback room was gutted with the hire of Alex Golesh, and Daniels was left needing to find a new home for his final season of eligibility.
He found that new home through the transfer portal in Tallahassee, Florida, and is poised to take over the starting quarterback role for Florida State in 2026. Florida State, like Auburn, is hungry to return to success this season, and Daniels will be tasked with leading the Seminoles to bowl eligibility for the first time since 2023.
How is Daniels faring in his new uniform? Florida State head coach Mike Norvell shared with the media this week that Daniels has shown signs of blemish, but is impressed with the former Tiger so far as the Seminoles prepare for the 2026 season.
"But he's been outstanding when it comes to knowing where to go with the ball, his ownership of the things we're asking him to do," Norvell said. "I would say it would challenge as good as what I've seen. Just the way that he's gone about that."
Since missing the 2023 College Football Playoff, Florida State has won just seven games over the last two seasons, and is working to return to the postseason picture. Daniels will get the chance to lead the Seminoles' offense and will rely on talented pieces, including wide receiver Duce Robinson, to achieve that goal.
