José Luis Esparza Güicho — a Mexican content creator known online as "El Piturris" — was shot and killed while working at a taco stand on Thursday. He was 37.
Esparza, who maintained a following of over 30,000 on Instagram, was "attacked with firearm projectiles" on Sept. 10 at a taco stand in Ciudad Obregón, a city in northern Mexico, by a suspect who allegedly "fled on a motorcycle" with another individual, the Sonora State Attorney General's Office said in a translated statement.

On September 8, a caller inquired if Trinity Industries, Inc. (NYSE:TRN) is worth looking at after its recent pullback. Mad Money host Jim Cramer replied:
Yes, Railcar, shouldn't be down this much. I like your thinking. You waited for the big hit. Now, it's in a good place. I would pull the trigger.
Trinity Industries, Inc. (NYSE:TRN) has faced a sharp correction, pulling back significantly from its 52-week high of $38.31. Despite this downward pressure, the company's fundamental **** et base remains exceptionally stable. In its second-quarter earnings report, the company posted total revenues of $485 million and diluted earnings per share from continuing operations of $1.25, with earnings benefiting from a $132 million non-cash pre-tax gain tied to the Napier Park railcar partnership transaction.
The leasing and services segment continues to support the business, posting a robust fleet utilization rate of 97.3% and an improved lease renewal success rate of 75%. In addition, the Future Lease Rate Differential improved to +3.5%, showing healthy pricing power on expiring contracts. Management reaffirmed its full-year EPS guidance of $2.20 to $2.40, supported by a solid railcar backlog standing at $1.6 billion.
The primary catalyst for Trinity Industries, Inc.'s (NYSE:TRN) recent sell-off stems from margin compression within the Rail Products manufacturing division. Operating margins in manufacturing faced pressure from an unplanned production interruption at the Longview manufacturing facility and temporary realignment expenses tied to the company's Mexican footprint. These localized execution issues overshadowed a strong quarterly performance in leasing, causing the stock to drift below both its 50-day and 200-day moving average.

In the before-the-bell undercard action supporting the Garcia vs. Benn fight card, Alexis Rocha and Vlad Panin led the way with solid victories.
Abel Gonzalez, and Sean Garcia also scored wins.
Fights took place at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas in the traditional Mexican Independence Day card.
It was a disservice to boxing fans and the fighters to schedule the contest between former world champion Jose Ramirez of Avenal, California (29-4, 18 KOs) and top-ten-ranked contender Alexis Rocha of Santa Ana (27-2-1, 16 KOs) so early. The Golden Boy welterweight contest seems to have been buried by ongoing friction between promoters.
This aside, Ramirez and Rocha delivered solid action for ten rounds, with Rocha prevailing by a wide unanimous decision. Scores were 98-91, 98-91, and 97-92.

Mexico's government is slashing financial ******* istance for the state energy major by as much as 70% despite Pemex's continued struggle to pay down debt and boost production. The decision rests on expectations that the company will benefit from the oil and gas price rally spurred by the U.S. and Israeli war against Iran.
Per a Bloomberg report from this week, the government of Mexico sees Pemex posting a rare cash surplus of some 95 billion pesos, or around $5.63 billion, as a result of the oil price rally. Based on those expectations, the Scheinbaum government stipulated financial help of just 81 billion pesos for the company in next year's budget, equivalent to some $4.8 billion. This was down by 70% from this year.
"We said that by 2027, support for Pemex would be very limited, and that's indeed the case," President Sheinbaum told media this week. "Pemex now receives very little support from the Mexican government, and its own finances will sustain its development."
Mexico's energy major is the most indebted company in the world, with a load of some $105 billion as of mid-2025, of which some $20 billion is in unpaid bills to suppliers. Since then, the company has managed to reduce the debt pile to some $79 billion as of the end of the first quarter of this year. The company said in a news release at the time that this was the lowest its debt has been since 2014.
Meanwhile, however, boosting refining output has turned out to be a challenge, and issues with crude quality—including high water content—have alienated key buyers over the past couple of years. The previous administration of Mexico focused on supporting the company by turning it back into a monopoly on the Mexican energy market. The Scheinbaum government, on the other hand, moved to open up the Mexican oil industry to other players as well, launching a new contract framework for joint ventures, the so-called mixed contracts. In mixed development allocations, Pemex can enter into an agreement with one or more private firms.

Since Liga MX Femenil was established in 2017, the league has attracted a growing number of high profile players from abroad. Here are five international stars in Liga MX Femenil who have made an impact on Mexican women's football.
Interestingly, Liga MX Femenil increased its limit for foreign players from two per club in 2021 to five in 2024, and then to seven starting in 2025. The change reflects growing international interest in playing in Mexico.
One of the biggest names in Spanish football, Jenni Hermoso made history by signing with Pachuca in 2022 in an unprecedented, high profile move.
Hermoso became a World Cup champion with Spain in 2023 while playing for Pachuca. She later moved to Tigres before continuing her career in Mexico and abroad.

A Diber Cambindo header made all the difference for Club León.
The forward nodded in a set piece in the 80th minute of the Leagues Cup third-place game against Club América. It was the only goal of a 1-0 León victory over Las Aguilas and a critical one for León.
The victory booked the team a place in the 2027 Concacaf Champions Cup.
América already had a place in next year's Concacaf Champions Cup, and had the Mexico City side won the match, Club Tijuana would have taken the remaining place as the Mexican club with the best combined finish between the Apertura and Cluausura short tournaments.
Instead, León will return to the continental club championship for the first time since winning the competition in 2023. That achievement typically comes with a ticket to the FIFA Club World Cup, but La Fiera were denied entry to the 2025 tournament because they share ownership with Pachuca, which also qualified, and ownership preferred for Tuzos to take part.

BEEVILLE, Texas, Sept 4 (Reuters) - The makeup and toys on Valencia Macias' table are items people buy on impulse at discount stores. But on a sweltering summer day in South Texas, she is trying to sell them to turn them into gas money, grocery money, student loan money: any kind of money.
With three young children, a job as a medical ***** istant and nursing classes at night, the 26-year-old ‌has little time for politics. But when Texas officials withdrew funding for the only after-school program available in her rural town of George West, politics became impossible to ignore.
Then, a TikTok video appeared: A Mexican American ‌woman on the screen, Gina Hinojosa, talked about the high cost of living and badly needed investments in Texas public education. Macias stopped scrolling.
"With everything just getting so expensive and the gas and everything, it's really hard to just make do," Macias said. Seeing a mother and a woman who looks like her, Macias made up her mind: "100%, she has my vote."
Hinojosa, a Democratic state representative, is trying to end an electoral drought that has defined Texas politics for a generation: no Democrat has won statewide office in Texas since 1994.

EDITOR'S NOTE: This story contains details some readers might find disturbing.
A Mexican musician, his pregnant wife and 3-year-old daughter, as well as their nanny and a family dog were found dead on Tuesday, in a gruesome homicide case.
Jonathan Meléndez, the 38-year-old keyboardist of the well-known indie rock band Camilo Séptimo, was among those found dead in an apartment in an upscale neighborhood near Mexico City late Tuesday night, the State of Mexico Attorney General's Office said. His wife, Ana Paula, 35, was four months pregnant.
The second woman's family confirmed to reporters that the 21-year-old, named Aleida Romero Victorio, worked for the couple as a nanny.
"She was a very hardworking and responsible girl who did not deserve for this to be done to her," said her aunt, Lorena Victorio Cabrera.

The latest Market Talks covering Energy and Utilities. Published exclusively on Dow Jones Newswires at 4:20 ET, 12:20 ET and 16:50 ET.
1552 ET – Mexico’s pipeline imports of U.S. natural gas were a record near 7.9 billion cubic feet a day in August, with gas for electricity generation in Mexico last month at an all-time high 5.8 Bcf/d, Wood Mackenzie says in a release. The firm projects that exports to Mexico have reached their 2026 peak. While volumes remain strong in early September, “Mexican gas and power markets are set to enter a gradual seasonal decline, driven by easing cooling loads, shoulder-season maintenance windows, and holiday-related demand softness.” The medium-term trend remains upward, however, as Mexico continues expanding its fleet of combined-cycle power plants, Wood Mackenzie adds. Andy Ruiz Jr.'s life changed forever on June 1, 2019, when he knocked out Anthony Joshua at Madison Square Garden and became boxing's unified heavyweight champion.
In some ways, it changed for the better. He had accomplished his lifelong dream and was financially set for life.
In other ways, however, it changed for the worse. An out-of-shape Ruiz put in an underwhelming performance in the rematch and subsequently lost his belts six months later.
"Leading up to the rematch, [there were] things [where] I should've just been more disciplined," Ruiz said this week on "The Ariel Helwani Show." "I should've taken care of myself a little bit more. I should've been thinking more of the future, not just the present. Once God gave me what I've been asking for, what I've been wishing for, I kind of went over here [and] I was dragged over there — I kind of lost track of the whole mission."
Ruiz had the opportunity to repeat his win over Joshua, which not only would've cemented his legacy in heavyweight boxing, but also opened the door for more major paydays. It would've been an inspiration for his Mexican and Mexican-American fan base.

Big league rosters have officially expanded now that we've reached the month of August. The Cincinnati Reds responded in kind by promoting both Brandon Williamson and Juan Brito earlier on Tuesday, the latter providing depth across the infield as the Reds face something of a short-term crisis there.
Ke'Bryan Hayes resides on the 10-day IL at the moment. Superstar shortstop Elly De La Cruz has a quad strain, and given how much his leg problems sapped his overall production last season the Reds are going to keep him at DH for the foreseeable future until he's absolutely 100%. That means Matt McLain has moved from 2B over to SS, and to compound things Eugenio Suarez has been absent from team activities the last few days as he works towards gaining US citizenship.
So, the Reds need some infield depth. Edwin Arroyo was recalled to help bridge that gap, and Brito will, too, but that only serves to thin the mix at AAA behind them. Cincinnati responded to that cascade of infield inputs on Tuesday evening by signing veteran infielder Orlando Arcia to a minor league deal.
Arcia, 32, began the 2026 season with in the Minnesota Twins organization and hit .271/.300/.354 with them across 50 PA before being released in late July. He posted an .834 OPS with Minnesota's AAA affiliate in St. Paul along the way, but ended up playing in the Mexican League for a trio of games before the Reds scooped him up.
He was an All Star with Atlanta in 2023 and is a veteran of over 1000 big league games, so he'll certainly provide a stable floor of depth across the middle infield even if the Reds are a) going nowhere this season and b) decide to slow the roll of Elly and others as the final month of the season dwindles down. That said, he owns just a career 76 OPS+, so one can hardly expect him to be lightning in a bottle for the club at this time.

Silvestre Sanchez may have punched his way to a UFC deal.
At Dana White's Contender Series 90 on Tuesday, Mexico's Silvestre (10-1) proved the oddsmakers wrong as he finished England's Liam McCracken (8-2) with a big left hook to close their lightweight bout at Meta APEX in Las Vegas. The stoppage came at 2:44 of Round 3.
The fight was competitive with both men having their moments. Silvestre seemed a step ahead, and bloodied McCracken in Round 2. A looping punch floored McCracken midway through the final round, and a glancing hammerfist finished off the job.
The finish got a big reaction out of UFC CEO Dana White and CBO Hunter Campbell.
Sanchez, 24, carved out his reputation on the Mexican regional scene with standout performances for Lux Fight League. Tuesday's win was the fourth knockout of his pro career. He has five career submissions as well.

It's been nearly three years since José Urquidy has thrown a pitch inside the Houston Astros' downtown ballpark, so when he arrived back in town as a member of the Chicago White Sox, he made sure to take the early bus to Daikin Park on Monday to take it all in.
"I walked in through the entrance in right field and just took a look around and said, 'Yeah, we were here for a long time and threw a lot of games here,'" Urquidy said from the visiting dugout before the Astros-White Sox series opener. "I'm playing in a different city now, but I can't wait to see my ex-teammates and talk a little bit. It feels really good to be back here."
The 31-year-old Urquidy had some huge moments in his six years with the Astros. He went 27-16 with a 3.98 ERA in 79 outings with the team, while also pitching in five postseasons, including three World Series. As a rookie, he got the win in Game 4 of the 2019 World Series against the Washington Nationals when he threw five shutout innings, allowing just two hits. He picked up two wins in the 2021 World Series against the Atlanta Braves, including a Game 2 start in which he struck out seven over five innings, allowing two runs. His three World Series wins are the most by any Mexican-born pitcher and the most of any pitcher in Astros history.
"All my games and all my innings that I threw here are something that I'm going to remember for all of my life," Urquidy said. "I can't tell you one (favorite memory) right now, but there are a lot of memories here and outside the field, too. The people, they recognize me wherever I go. My family and I have a lot of memories here."
Signed by the Astros as a 19-year-old international free agent out of Mazatlán, Mexico in 2015, Urquidy has dealt with injuries through much of his professional career. He had his first Tommy John surgery in 2017 after pitching in High-A in the minors. Two years later, he made his big-league debut. A shoulder injury limited him to 16 outings in 2023, and Urquidy suffered a forearm strain during spring training in 2024. He was close to rejoining the Astros when he had a setback in a Triple-A rehab start and had to have a second Tommy John surgery, marking the end of his tenure in Houston.

Manchester United are close to signing Mexico international Rebeca Bernal from Washington Spirit.
The 29-year-old, who can play in the centre of either defence or midfield, would become the first Mexican to feature in the Women's Super League.
Bernal joined the Spirit in February 2025 from CF Monterrey and has played 41 times for them.
During her time in Washington, she won the NWSL Challenge Cup in 2025.
Bernal missed Spirit's NWSL game on Sunday against Bay FC with what the club described as an "excused absence".

Carlos Acevedo became the sensation of the Liga MX thanks to his outstanding performances between the posts for Santos Laguna. At just 20 years old, with unmatched talent and a huge desire to take on the world, Acevedo won the hearts and applause of Mexican fans, who quickly labeled him the nation's "young promise."
Carlos is here to stay! The Torreón native claimed the starting spot for the Guerreros and never let it go. He stayed loyal to his colors, even over tempting offers from the biggest clubs in the country.
However, he had to show resilience when an injury to his left shoulder disrupted his career, sidelining him for several weeks from major national and international competitions.

After winning the first two games of the new season, against Espanyol on the road and Real Sociedad at home, Real Madrid are set to face the newly-promoted Malaga in their next La Liga game, which is scheduled to take place at the Santiago Bernabeu on Sunday.
The Merengues have already been training for this game for some days, and Jose Mourinho held the latest training session ahead of this game on Saturday. As has been the case since the start of the season, the Portuguese coach will remain without several players, including Ferland Mendy, Eder Militao, Raul Asencio, Aurelien Tchouameni, Thiago Pitarch, Rodrygo, and Endrick.
Tchouameni and Endrick's cases are not as severe as those of the other mentioned players, but they are still not at a competitive fitness level, and thus are highly likely to miss the game against Malaga. The other players continue to recover from their longer-term injuries. As a result, Mourinho called up several players from the academy, including Sergio Mestre, Mario Rivas, Cestero, and Alexis Ciria to fill up his ranks.
Meanwhile, Diario AS reports that there was another surprising presence at Valdebebas during this training session, i.e., the Real Madrid legend, Sergio Ramos. The former Merengue defender and captain visited the club's training facilities during this session.
The Spaniard is currently without a club after having ended his time with the Mexican side Monterrey. Several years after his departure from the Spanish capital, he still remains one of the most beloved players in the history of the white club.

WASHINGTON (AP) — Parasitic illness cases linked to recalled iceberg lettuce have now been confirmed in 20 states, federal health officials said Thursday, expanding the scope of the largest outbreak of its kind in the U.S.
The Food and Drug Administration said government scientists have now identified cases in three additional states: Georgia, Tennessee and Texas.
The tally of people sickened by the parasite is now 11,458, up from about 10,900 reported last week.
The FDA, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and state health officials have focused their investigation on lettuce grown at a farm in central Mexico operated by Taylor Farms, a major U.S. produce supplier.
The FDA said its staffers are continuing to inspect and test produce at the farm, in cooperation with officials from the Mexican government. The U.S. agency said it "remains confident that all recalled iceberg lettuce related to this specific cyclospora outbreak is off the market."

Canada-headquartered Revolve Renewable Power Corp., a North American owner, operator and developer of power generation and digital infrastructure projects, announced it has entered into a MXN$450 million ($24 million) project-level, non-recourse-style financing facility with Banco Multiva, S.A., Institución de Banca Múltiple, Grupo Financiero Multiva. The facility is secured by project cash flows and contracted revenues and is expected to support the continued expansion of Revolve's distributed generation business in Mexico while enabling the company to recycle capital from existing operating and construction-stage ****** ets into future growth opportunities.Concurrent with the signing of the facility, Revolve expects to complete an initial drawdown of about MXN$128.8 million ($7.7 million) backed by operating ****** ets and projects currently under construction. This drawdown is anticipated to refinance a portion of Revolve's investment in these ****** ets and return capital to the corporate level, while maintaining ownership of the underlying projects and their long-term contracted revenue streams.Tania Ontiveros, CFO of Revolve, stated that the financing with Banco Multiva is a significant milestone and validation of the company's growing distributed generation business in Mexico. She expressed gratitude to the Banco Multiva team for their work and vision. Ontiveros highlighted that the facility provides the $24 million in long-term project-level capital for growth, and the initial drawdown of $7.7 million demonstrates the effectiveness of Revolve's capital recycling strategy. This involves recovering invested capital from developed and constructed ****** ets while retaining ownership and future cash flows.Tamara Caballero, CEO of Banco Multiva, noted that this financing marks a significant milestone for Multiva in advancing energy projects and reinforces its ability to deliver long-term financing solutions. She added that the institution is proud to contribute to the sector's growth through investment-encouraging structures that support innovative companies and create sustainable value for Mexico. The Multiva Facility is structured as a 14-year project financing facility, providing Revolve with access to long-term, non-dilutive capital. This capital is intended for the construction of new distributed generation (DG) projects, refinancing of operating ****** ets, and expansion of its portfolio of commercial and industrial solar projects in Mexico. The facility is structured through Revolve's Mexican subsidiaries, EPM Solar, S.A. de C.V. and RRP Business Solutions, S.A. de C.V., and comprises two equal MXN$225 million ($13.3 million) tranches.Key terms of the credit facility include a total size of MXN$450 million ($24 million), a term of 168 months (14 years) from drawdown, and a 24-month availability period. On August 13, Nu Holdings Ltd. (NYSE:NU) reported second-quarter results built around a number the digital bank had never posted before: $1.1 billion in net income, up 49% year over year and 17% from the first quarter. The company also crossed 139 million customers across Brazil, Mexico and Colombia, and a newly approved banking license turned what had been a credit-first fintech in Mexico into a full-scale bank. Behind that headline figure sits a business leaning harder on artificial intelligence and new customer tiers to keep growth compounding, even as expenses and past-due loans both crept higher in the same period.
Profitability improved across nearly every measure management pointed to. Net interest margin expanded 180 basis points to 22.9%, and risk-adjusted net interest margin jumped to 12.4% from 9.5% the prior quarter, driven mostly by credit income and a lower cost of credit. Return on equity held at 33% even as the company kept investing in three markets at once. Nubank is also trying to capture more of each customer's wallet rather than just adding new ones.
In July, it launched Croma, a subscription tier aimed at a "Super Core" segment between its mass-market base and its Ultravioleta high-income brand, where purchase volumes grew 41% year over year. It already counts 6.8 million small-business customers, more than any other financial institution in Brazil. Mexico may be the bigger story long term. At a similar stage of adult-population penetration, Nubank's Mexican customers are generating $12.3 in average revenue per active customer versus $5.6 in Brazil at that same point, and the company reached breakeven there in six years versus eight in Brazil.
Underneath all of it sits NuFormer, the company's proprietary AI model, which management said now handles more than 60% of Brazilian customer-support conversations at ratings on par with humans, after a redesign that quadrupled training and inference speed.
Not every metric moved in the right direction. Loans more than 90 days past due rose 35 basis points to 6.9%, which the company attributed to the normal seasonal migration of earlier delinquencies rather than a shift in underlying credit quality. Operating expenses jumped 20% sequentially to $806 million as real estate and marketing costs shifted between quarters and international expansion spending picked up, pushing the efficiency ratio to 19.5% after an unusually low 17.6% in the first quarter that management had already flagged as not sustainable.

True entertainers can charm the pants off even the toughest of critics. Although anyone with good Wi-Fi and a clean iPhone lens can go viral, it takes hard work, genuine talent, a whole lot of perseverance, and, of course, innate magnetism to cut through the algorithm and catch the attention of industry gatekeepers and fickle fans alike. And all 31 honorees selected for our 2026 Breakthrough List have done just that.

Actor-writer-director Eva Victor, for instance, went from posting (respectfully) goofy pandemic-era TikTok sketches to darling of last year's Sundance Film Festival with her debut feature Sorry, Baby; now, she calls Pedro Pascal and Olivia Wilde co-stars. For FLO, "Leak It" has established the British trio as one of music's most sizzling R&B acts, while campy duo Haute & Freddy's synthy whimsy and thoughtful lyricism earned them the stamp of approval from a certified pop icon: Lady Gaga. After cutting his teeth with one supporting role after the next, The Shards standout Igby Rigney proves he has what it takes to be one of TV's leading men. Meanwhile, Mexican actor Diego Calva has one Golden Globe nomination to his name, and we predict another coming his way for his tender performance in Jordan Firstman's already-buzzy Club Kid.

Whether they're topping charts with tomorrow's Grammy-winning earworms, delighting audiences in mega-viral social media series, or breathing new life into beloved franchises like Legally Blonde and Baywatch, these artists will remain at the top of our feeds, queues, and playlists for years. Below, meet this year's breakthroughs.

Calling Jon Hamm, Olivia Wilde, and Amanda Peete co-stars is no small matter, but that's reality for Aimee Carrero, a scene-stealer in Apple TV+'s Emmy-nominated Your Friends and Neighbors. A featured player in dozens of IMDb credits thus far, the Dominican-American actress from Miami has a starring role in the comedy One Attempt Remaining (with Jennifer Garner, Kate McKinnon, John Cena, no less) coming down the pike. As for who Carrero thinks will have a banner year? Inde Navarrette: "I love seeing a young Latina woman out there doing her thing."

What was your first job?
Working in a furniture store—West Elm. A celebrity who will remain unnamed came in and ordered a ton of sh*t. It was gonna be a huge commission for me. I went to ring her up, and the card declined. She says, "I'll be back tomorrow." Never came back.

Who should play you in your biopic?
Olivia Rodrigo. You want someone younger and more beautiful than you to do it.

What's the most underrated movie, TV show, song, or album of all time?
Well, it wasn't underrated at the time, but I do think this new generation needs to get into The X Files. Gillian Anderson was my first celebrity crush. There's a new one coming out—Ryan Coogler's—it's gonna be amazing, I'm sure.

The specialty beverage category has grown in popularity in recent years, yet Dutch Bros is gaining market share and remains a promising stock to buy and hold. It operates exclusively through a drive-thru format, with shops offering a wide range of flavorful beverages, including energy drinks, refreshers, tea, lemonade, soda, and coffee.
Dutch Bros goes the extra mile to build connections with customers using free giveaways and friendly service. That's reflected in consistent growth: Revenue grew 32% year over year in the second quarter, with systemwide same-store sales up 5.8%. This is typical of quarterly results over the last few years.
