The Kelsey Plum era is over in Los Angeles. The Sparks are sending the five-time All-Star to Phoenix in exchange for Monique Akoa Makani, the Mercury's 2027 first-round pick and a 2028 second-rounder, league sources confirmed to The Athletic. ESPN was first to report.
The Sparks traded the No. 2 pick in the 2025 draft (which became All-Star Dominique Malonga) to acquire Plum in the 2025 offseason in an attempt to end their rebuild and get to the playoffs for the first time since 2020. That plan didn't pan out: Los Angeles came up two games short of the postseason in 2025, and Plum's lower leg injury in 2026 dug the Sparks a hole they could not get out of.
At 10-17 and 5 1/2 games out of a playoff spot, Los Angeles is pulling the plug on this season, and that means moving on from Plum, who will be an unrestricted free agent in the offseason. Plum has only played 12 games in 2026, but is second in the league in scoring (23.9 points per game) and sixth in ***** ists (6.4). She is arguably the most efficient No. 1 option as a guard in the league — her field-goal percentage only trails A'ja Wilson among top-10 scorers — and she has also been a secondary (even tertiary) scoring option on a two-time ***** le team in Las Vegas.
As reported by The Athletic, the sense from executives around the league was that Plum wouldn't re-sign in Los Angeles, forcing the Sparks' hand to trade her and recoup some of the value they lost in acquiring the five-time All-Star guard. Even so, there have rarely been trades involving all-WNBA players during the season. The last time it happened was in 2015 when the Chicago Sky dealt Sylvia Fowles to Minnesota. The Lynx ultimately won the championship that season and Fowles was named finals MVP.

Before the Minnesota Lynx's road matchup against the Seattle Storm, head coach Cheryl Reeve gave Napheesa Collier a piece of advice ahead of her long-awaited return to the court.
"Cheryl (Reeve) did say ... 'It's going to take time to come back and to get settled in,'" Collier said Wednesday, July 22.
Well, it didn't take long for the five-time All-Star to get back into the swing of things. Collier recorded a 24-point, 10-rebound double-double in the Lynx's 86-76 win over the Storm, marking her first game since Sept. 26, 2025.
"I was just so excited. I felt like a kid in a candy store. I couldn't wait to get on the court to get with these guys," Collier said. "I was just really just happy to be here. ... It's just a year of pent-up excitement."
Collier underwent surgeries to both ankles this offseason after suffering multiple ankle injuries during the 2025 WNBA season. Two days after the former South Carolina Gamecock was waived by the Los Angeles Sparks, the Las Vegas Aces announced Wednesday night that they had signed Latson to a development player contract.
Latson, a 5-foot-8 guard, was selected 20th overall in the 2026 WNBA Draft by the Sparks. She appeared in 10 games with the team, notching a season-best six points, three rebounds and two **** ists in a loss to the Minnesota Lynx on June 17.
A native of Miami, Latson began her collegiate career at Florida State. In her rookie season for the Seminoles, she was given the Tamika Catchings Award as the nation's top freshman by the U.S. Basketball Writers **** ociation. As a junior for Brooke Wyckoff's team, she led the nation in scoring with 25.2 points per game.

Minnesota Lynx guard Olivia Miles is the frontrunner for the 2026 WNBA 'Rookie of the Year' award. Throughout the current season, Miles has yet to miss a game while averaging outstanding numbers of 18.5 points, 4.8 rebounds, 5.7 **** ists, and 1.4 steals in around 30.6 minutes per contest. In a report by WNBA insider Cassidy Hettesheimer on X, Minnesota coach Cheryl Reeve explained the decision behind sitting Miles out. According to the tenured tactician, Reeve and her staff are making sure that Miles' injury does not worsen.
"Those that were in tune to the last game, you know, she mentioned feeling some cramping, and you know, I think ultimately it wasn't a cramp, and so we're kind of taking the next step of imaging and that sort of thing, and trying to get a final answer, exactly what we're dealing with," Reeve was quoted as saying.

Coach Reeve and company will have to rely on veterans such as forward Natasha Howard and guard Courtney Williams for now, especially since Miles is leading the team in scoring in her first year. They brought back their core, traded for Angel Reese and, despite a midsummer hiccup, still are tied for the fourth-best record in the WNBA.
