The bond-market rout of 2026 may be jolting markets, but it's also gaining a important following among savers and the risk-averse.
Wall Street has been gripped by the volatile moves in bond yields over the past few weeks. The all-important 10-year Treasury yield BX:TMUBMUSD10Y was up another 3.4 basis points on Monday to 5.35%, it highest level since April 2002, according to Dow Jones Market Data.
My wife never went back to work after raising our kids. Do I have to share my retirement savings 50/50?
Go ahead and get that poetry degree. Republican law won't prevent people with humanities majors from getting student loans.
That's raised the costs of new mortgages, corporate borrowing and financing the $40 trillion national debt. It also has many bond portfolios sitting in a sea of red ink for 2026, with the bond market's equivalent of the S&P 500 SPX — the Bloomberg U.S. Aggregate Index's — total return having turned negative. Bond yields and prices move in the opposite direction.

For many years, franchising rewarded momentum. A compelling concept, solid unit growth, and a polished sales presentation were often enough to attract development interest.
Not anymore.
As inflation, higher labor costs, tighter lending standards, and shifting regulations reshaped the operating environment over the past year, prospective franchisees have become far more selective about where they invest. Excitement still matters, but it no longer closes the deal on its own.
"The past year has really acted as a stress test, and not everyone passed," says Liane Caruso, owner of ****** oCMO and cofounder of Franchise ****** embly. "The brands that held up were the ones with lean, simple operations and realistic unit economics built for normal conditions."

The dollar index (DXY00) rose by +0.27% on Tuesday. Soaring T-note yields on Tuesday strengthened the dollar's interest rate differentials and pushed the dollar higher. Also, Tuesday's +5% surge in WTI crude oil to a 6-week high raised inflation expectations, which could potentially persuade the Fed to raise interest rates, a supportive factor for the dollar. In addition, Tuesday's stock slump boosted liquidity demand for the dollar.
Gains in the dollar were limited on Tuesday amid weaker-than-expected US economic news, including Aug ISM manufacturing, July construction spending, and July JOLTS job openings.

WASHINGTON (AP) — Employers posted slightly more job openings in July but the American labor market remained sturdy in the face of higher costs that are squeezing household budgets.
U.S. job openings ticked up to 7.27 million in July from a revised 7.18 million in June, the Labor Department reported Tuesday.
The department's Job Openings and Labor Turnover Survey (JOLTS) also showed that layoffs fell. But so did the number of people quitting their jobs — a sign of confidence in their prospects. The report showed that gross hiring — before subtracting those who lost or quit their jobs — dipped to 5.1 million in July from 5.3 million in June.
The American job market is hardly booming, but it is ambling along despite an energy shock caused by the fighting with Iran that has squeezed family budgets.
So far this year, U.S. employers — companies, nonprofits and government agencies — added an average of 61,000 net jobs a month. The figure — which was dragged down by job losses in February and July — is unimpressive. But it's an improvement on 2025 when job growth came in below 10,000 a month — weakest hiring outside a recession since 2002 — as the lingering effect of high interest rates and uncertainty caused by Trump's tariffs discouraged firms from hiring.

US stock futures meandered on Tuesday morning as uncertainty around the war in Iran, the bond market, and the Fed's next interest rate move largely kept buyers on the sidelines.
Futures on the Dow Jones Industrial Average (YM=F) and S&P 500 (ES=F) fell about 0.5%, while Nasdaq-100 (NQ=F) contracts dipped 1% after stocks closed August with solid gains.
Stocks entered September with double-digit year-to-date returns and earnings expectations that continue to rise. However, volatile oil prices and the potential return of Fed rate hikes have given investors reason to worry heading into the historically weakest month for stocks.
Crude oil prices remained elevated after the US and Iran returned to a hot war on Sunday, with Brent futures (BZ=F), the global benchmark, trading near $90 per barrel. Treasury yields have also stayed high, with the 10-year yield (^TNX) rising to 4.75%.
On Tuesday, the Job Openings and Labor Turnover Survey (JOLTS) will kick off a string of labor market updates this week, offering a look at hiring and quits ahead of the monthly jobs report on Friday. Data releases from S&P Global and the Institute for Supply Management will also give insight into manufacturing activity.

On August 14, 2026, Reuters reported that Alphabet Inc. (NASDAQ:GOOGL) disclosed that its stake in ******* e Exploration Technologies Corp. (NASDAQ:SPCX) was worth about $94 billion as of June 30, 2026, more than 100 times its original $900 million investment from 2015. It is making Alphabet by far ******* eX's largest single institutional shareholder following the company's June initial public offering.
Alphabet Inc. (NASDAQ:GOOGL)'s ******* eX stake is now one of the most lucrative early-stage bets in tech history. A $900 million check from 2015 is worth roughly $94 billion, a gain that dwarfs Alphabet's next-largest disclosed rival holder, Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund, whose 154.1 million shares were worth $26.3 billion at the same date. That scale validates Alphabet's willingness to make patient, outsized bets outside its core search business, a track record that could matter the next time Alphabet weighs a similarly bold bet.
Space Exploration Technologies Corp. (NASDAQ:SPCX)'s trading action suggests institutional demand is holding up despite the pullback. The stock got "a fresh jolt of buying" when fears about its first lockup expiry proved unfounded, Interactive Brokers strategist Steve Sosnick told Reuters. It remains one of the most actively traded names among the firm's customers. That kind of resilience right after a lockup, often a moment when early holders dump shares, signals ******* eX's shareholder base isn't rushing for the exits.
SpaceX's ownership base extends well beyond Alphabet, which reduces reliance on any single backer's continued conviction. Reuters' filing review found Fidelity, Saudi Arabia's PIF, Hancock Prospecting, Brookfield, and other major institutions all disclosing sizable stakes. That breadth shows professional investors broadly, not just Alphabet, are underwriting ******* eX's valuation.
Alphabet Inc. (NASDAQ:GOOGL)'s headline number is already stale and shrinking. The stake would be worth about $77.9 billion at ******* eX's August 13 price, Reuters reported, roughly $16 billion below the June 30 figure used in the disclosure, since regulatory filings run on a 45-day lag. Now that ******* eX is public, Alphabet's stake must be marked to market. It means ******* eX's own stock swings could show up as real volatility in Alphabet's reported earnings going forward, a new risk that did not exist while the investment sat private.

The payment giant is grabbing attention with a strong run, but its real value for your portfolio lies in how little it moves on most days.
Visa (V) stock has been a bright spot in a gloomy market, climbing 6.6% over the past five trading days even as the S&P 500 slid 1.2%. This coincided with a period of strong results, with the company recently reporting that quarterly payments volume crossed $4 trillion for the first time.
When a stock stands out like this, the instinct is simple: pile into what's working. It feels like a safe harbor, a sign of undeniable strength in a market that feels weak.
But the question that truly shapes your long-term wealth isn't whether Visa will win next week. It's about what owning it does to your portfolio's risk today. How much of its performance is its own unique story, and how much is just the same market you already own in an index fund?

Delaware North, one of the largest and most diversified hospitality and food service companies in the world, has partnered with TipHaus to streamline and automate tip management across its portfolio of venues.
For an operator of Delaware North's scale and diversity, spanning stadiums, arenas, resorts, destination restaurants, and entertainment venues, tip management has traditionally meant a patchwork of manual, location-by-location processes, each with its own rules and reconciliation headaches. Since bringing TipHaus on board in March 2025, Delaware North has replaced that fragmented approach with a single automated system that handles hundreds of distinct tip-pooling and distribution use cases across its operations. Today, TipHaus supports more than 40 locations for Delaware North.
"Partnering with TipHaus has helped Delaware North streamline and modernize our tip management process, reducing administrative effort while improving accuracy and transparency for our leaders," said Michele Seaver, Director of Payroll and Workforce Management at Delaware North. "What used to take a full day of coordination now takes just a couple of hours to pull a single enterprise-wide export. Given the diversity and complexity of our portfolio, the flexibility of the TipHaus platform, and the collaborative partnership we have built with the TipHaus team have been extremely valuable. Their willingness to adapt solutions and get creative to meet our unique operational needs has helped us drive greater consistency across our business while supporting a better experience for all involved," Seaver said.
TipHaus integrates directly with the systems Delaware North already runs, including Oracle Simphony, Toast, and UKG Dimensions, pulling sales, shift, and labor data automatically so that tip calculations run without manual data entry from each location. Rather than forcing a rigid, one-size-fits-all model, TipHaus configures to the specific rules of each property, allowing Delaware North to standardize oversight at the enterprise level while honoring the operational realities of each individual venue.

It was a tumultuous weekend for the Yankees. Cody Bellinger returned Sunday, providing a much-needed jolt to a lineup that's been anemic in his and Aaron Judge's absences. But Giancarlo Stanton suffered a setback that could end his season (and, with it, perhaps his tenure in pinstripes). And Ryan Weathers, who had posted a 2.27 ERA in seven starts since the All-Star break, landed on the shelf with a forearm strain.
Amid the injury news, the Yankees quietly went on a heater, winning six of their last seven while taking series against two AL East foes, Baltimore and Toronto. This week, they'll be hosting the Astros, a team that just fired GM Dana Brown after dropping six of their last eight despite still tying for first place in a tight AL West. Let's take a look at the likely starting pitching matchups for this midweek set.
Tuesday: Will Warren vs. Ethan Pecko (7:05 pm ET)
Just over a week ago, it looked like Will Warren was about to lose his rotation spot, bouncing either to the bullpen or the minors upon Carlos Rodón's return. Now, with Max Fried and Weathers on the IL, he's the Yankees' No. 4 starter. After a strong start to the year he's struggled, going 1-1 with a 6.08 ERA since the All-Star break and turning in just one quality start since the end of May. Last time out, he needed 90 pitches to get through four innings of work in Baltimore, allowing six baserunners and two runs.
He's lined up to face Ethan Pecko. The right-hander will be pitching on his 24th birthday, six days after making his MLB debut against the Angels in which he allowed two runs in 3.2 innings. He featured a four-seamer and a sinker in that start, mixing in four complementary pitches. Pecko was 4-6 with a 4.94 ERA in 17 outings (15 starts) at Triple-A before getting the call.

In today's challenging restaurant environment, operators are under constant pressure to grow sales while managing rising food, labor, occupancy, and operating costs. While much attention is placed on pricing, promotions, labor optimization, and food costs, one of the most powerful tools for improving restaurant economics is often overlooked: the menuboard.
The menuboard is one of the most important points of communication between a restaurant and its customers. It does more than tell customers what is available and what it costs. A well-designed and strategically optimized menuboard can greatly influence product selection, increase average check, improve throughput, reduce decision friction, and make the operation easier to execute. When these benefits are considered together, the return on investment from menuboard optimization can be substantial.
A menuboard should be viewed as a "silent" salesperson that serves every customer, every day. Unlike a traditional advertising investment, the menuboard goes to work at the precise moment a customer is making a purchase decision.
Its job is to answer three fundamental customer questions quickly: What can I order? What looks appealing? What represents the best value for me?

LANCASTER – Lancaster senior volleyball player Zoe DeLeon and her senior teammates had somewhat of a rude awakening when Leslie Davenport was named the new head coach.
Davenport has brought a different mentality, as far as making players work harder, holding them more accountable, and most importantly, not accepting losing.
Not that the program was downtrodden by any means, but it needed a jolt, and that is exactly what Davenport has brought to the program.
"Coach has brought a competitiveness, and she gives it to us straight," DeLeon said. "She holds us accountable. She has us working harder in practice, and it has transferred over to the game. There was a difference at the beginning when she took over, and it took time to get used to, but once we saw the outcome, it makes us want to work even harder."

In the summer of 1993, Manchester United won the ******* le and then signed Roy Keane in a British record transfer. In 2001, United won the ******* le and then bought Ruud van Nistelrooy. In 2008, the summer after winning the Premier League and Champions League, they signed Dimitar Berbatov not because they really needed him but because they could.
Each time, Alex Ferguson took steps not just to maintain the gap to their rivals but to grow it. Each time, United defended their Premier League crown.
Even before kick-off here at the Emirates Stadium, there was that familiar sense of a ******* le-winning manager ******* down the lid on the Premier League trophy they owned. Mikel Arteta's newest signing, Ezri Konsa, was paraded on the pitch to a standing ovation – quite the flex to sign the second best right-sided centre-half in the Premier League while the best, William Saliba, is sidelined with injury.
And after a few minutes of this opening 3-0 win over Coventry City, it was clear that Arteta had strengthened his attack too. Christos Tzolis impressed in pre-season games and topped most of ******* nal's fitness metrics. Here he buzzed into action on the left wing, legs whirring with the urgency of a man fleeing a swarm of bees, all fast-twitch jolts and excitable energy, exactly the sort of opponent Coventry's right-back Milan van Ewijk didn't want to face on his first Friday night live on Sky Sports.
Arsenal had a plethora of attacking options on the field: Kai Havertz led the line, Bukayo Saka started on the right and Martin Odegaard flitted in and out of the right half-space. But for all the passing lanes on offer, the gameplan became a simple one: when in the final third, seek Tzolis.

As Hurricane Lala drenched parts of the Hawaiian Islands, the calm remained at sunny Father Bray Athletic Complex.
By 1:30 p.m., Edison kicked off to host 'Iolani, and the Chargers from Huntington Beach, Calif., put a jolt into the Raiders with a 41-27 win at Eddie Hamada Field. Sam Thomson threw three touchdown passes, while running backs Brett Dempsen and Gavyn Degiacomo combined for 183 yards and three TDs on 21 carries.
It was a 27-0 lead before the home team began to find its footing. Edison played a mix of reserves and starters from beginning to end. 'Iolani coach Patrick Samsonas found solace in his team's in-game resilience.
"I feel wet. It's a wet game," he said of the gusty, rainy conditions by game's end. We battled in the second and that was the test. They answered some of the calls. That's a really good team in the CIF (California Interscholastic Federation). I'm proud of our guys for battling. We've got a bye week before we get another mainland team."
'Iolani (1-1) hosts Westview (San Diego) on Aug. 29.

The Wendy's Company (WEN) investors have a potentially significant catalyst on the horizon as activist investor Nelson Peltz's Trian Fund Management reportedly prepares a bid to take the fast-food chain private. According to reports, Trian is working with potential partners including BlueFive Capital and Wendy's franchisee Flynn Group, with a formal offer potentially coming within weeks.
The speculation has already jolted WEN stock, which jumped 14.7% on Aug. 12 after the reports emerged. The potential deal comes as Wendy's struggles with declining customer traffic, weaker U.S. sales and rising operating pressures, while its new management team works on a turnaround strategy. Trian, Wendy's largest shareholder, owning about 16% of Wendy's, has previously argued that the company is undervalued and began exploring strategic options earlier this year.

The NBA has rolled out its entire 2026-27 regular season schedule. The annual mid-August event provides a jolt of excitement in an otherwise mundane part of the calendar. Reviewing how things shook out in the basketball marathon, the Oklahoma City Thunder will be a main character once again.
The Thunder have the fifth-most national TV appearances at 30 games in the 2026-27 regular season. Four other teams are ahead of them with 34 games each — the New York Knicks, San Antonio Spurs, Philadelphia 76ers and Los Angeles Lakers.
Little surprising the Thunder didn't get the maximum 34 national TV games allowed. Especially considering some of the teams ahead of them. Alas, there's a decent chance that OKC will get a few more added to its schedule as the 2026-27 regular season progresses.
Breaking down OKC's national TV schedule, it will play nine games on NBC/Peacock, eight games on Amazon Prime, seven games on ESPN, four games on ABC/ESPN and two games on Peacock.
Some of the bigger 2026-27 national TV games the Thunder will play include Opening Night at the Spurs, OKC's home opener against the Denver Nuggets and Christmas Day at the Minnesota Timberwolves.

Aug. 11—Chauncey Wiggins gave Florida State's upset bid a jolt of life with 37 seconds left during an ACC Tournament quarterfinal game against top-ranked Duke last March.
With the Seminoles trailing 80-77, Wiggins received the ball on the right corner and went to work on Duke's Cameron Boozer, backing the Naismith Award winner down until he got to his spot outside of the paint. That's when Wiggins used his long frame to pull up over the sturdy, 6-foot-10 center, and sink a 13-foot step back shot that trimmed the Blue Devils' lead to one.
The clutch jumper represented the 967th and 968th points of Wiggins' career — the last ones he'd score as a college basketball player. Or so he thought.
Florida State came out on the wrong end against Duke, losing 80-79, and subsequently turned down an invitation to play in the NIT, signaling the end of Wiggins' college journey.
The wing was prepared to turn the page, fulfilled with how his four college seasons played out. He made consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances at Clemson, playing key bench minutes for the 2023-24 team that advanced to the Elite Eight. Under first-year Florida State coach Luke Loucks, he averaged double figures for a group that claimed the Seminoles' first winning ACC record since 2020-21. He nearly eclipsed the 1,000-point milestone, posted a career win-loss record of 92-45 and earned academic honors at Clemson in 2024.

The U.S. economy currently presents a mixed bag. Real gross domestic product (GDP) expanded at an annualized rate of just 1.5% during the second quarter -- a deceleration from 2.1% in the first quarter. The labor market has also cooled noticeably: Nonfarm payrolls rose by only 57,000 in June, while the unemployment rate ticked down to 4.2% and the participation rate fell to 61.6% -- its lowest level in more than five years.
Meanwhile, geopolitical tensions in the Middle East have repeatedly jolted oil and energy markets, feeding inflation pressures that ripple through transportation, manufacturing, and consumer goods.

Even with all of this uncertainty, the S&P 500 (SNPINDEX: ^GSPC) has continued climbing to new highs. Nevertheless, the combination of decelerating economic growth, softer hiring, and energy volatility is leaving many investors wondering whether a crash could arrive at a moment's notice.
A stock market crash is typically defined as a rapid decline in stock prices, often exceeding 20% from recent peaks, and can last for weeks or even months. A crash differs from ordinary corrections in both speed and depth and is usually triggered by a sudden loss of confidence that ripples through leveraged positions, forcing panic selling.

Micron's (MU) impressive rally has lost momentum, with MU stock retreating 28.9% from its peak. The pullback reflects investor concerns that memory pricing could come under pressure as competition intensifies. In addition, profit-taking following the stock's strong run dragged it lower.

Nebius Group N.V. (NBIS) has quickly established itself as one of Wall Street's hottest artificial intelligence (AI) infrastructure plays. Riding the wave of surging enterprise AI spending, the AI cloud company has delivered triple-digit gains over the past year, fueled by explosive revenue growth, multibillion-dollar AI infrastructure deals, and soaring demand for its GPU-powered cloud platform. And now, the stock is back in focus. Piper Sandler recently initiated coverage on Nebius, just as investors gear up for a key catalyst on August 5.
The company is expected to provide an update on its Vineland AI data center, a flagship project that sits at the heart of its ambitious AI cloud expansion plans. The Vineland facility is designed to meet the rapidly accelerating demand for AI training and inference workloads. Investors will be closely watching for updates on construction progress, capacity, customer commitments, and the commercialization timeline, as the project's successful execution could significantly strengthen Nebius' long-term growth story.

When Nvidia (NVDA) invests in a company, investors pay attention. The chip giant doesn't hand out multi-billion-dollar investments lightly. According to Nvidia's recent filing, the company now owns 22.2 million Nebius (NBIS) shares, representing a 9.3% stake in the AI cloud company. Nvidia's trust in Nebius didn't just appear overnight. The chip giant first became an investor in late 2024 through Nebius' $700 million private placement and has steadily increased its stake since then. Nebius stock has climbed an impressive 147.6% year-to-date (YTD), surpassing the overall market.
But Nvidia's backing isn't just about capital. It signals that Nvidia sees Nebius as an important partner in the AI infrastructure ecosystem. The business is growing at a staggering pace. However, the challenge is that much of that expectation appears to be already priced into the stock. Nebius is set to report its Q2 earnings on August 12. Is Nebius stock a buy now?
