Mestemaker faked a handoff, then took off for a 75-yard run on the Cowboys' first play from scrimmage in a 39-31 upset win over Oregon last Saturday. Oklahoma State sports information confirmed Monday that it was the longest run by a quarterback in school history.
Mestemaker setting the record is a bit of a shock at a school that has boasted prolific runners such as Zac Robinson, Spencer Sanders and J.W. Walsh. It's also surprising because Mestemaker is not known as a runner. In the entire previous season at North Texas, he ran for 89 yards on 57 carries.
That wasn't even his most exciting run of the day. He later scored on a 10-yard touchdown run in which he took off from the 3-yard line, hurdled a defender and was flipped upside down by another before he landed hard on his back in the end zone.

More than a dozen states have begun distributing millions of free eggs across local food banks following a settlement with three major producers over alleged collusion, but legal experts say this "unusual" remedy faces a logistical hurdle of making sure those eggs reach the American people.
"There are huge administrative problems with making sure that a settlement of this nature goes according to plan," Katherine Speegle, an antitrust lawyer and partner at Duane Morris, told Fortune.
In June, the U.S. Justice Department and 17 states settled a lawsuit alleging three major egg producers—Cal-Maine Foods, Versova, and Hickman's Egg Ranch—illegally colluded to inflate the price of eggs, which reached record heights last year. The complaint claimed the companies coordinated on bids submitted to Urner Barry Publications, which runs an index key that reports prices for grocery stores and restaurants.
Soaring egg prices became a key metric for how American consumers have experienced five years of above-trend inflation — with this case raising the prospect of collusive behavior on the egg front. None of the producers admitted to wrongdoing and maintained they acted legally.
"When powerful corporations collude behind the scenes to raise prices, working families suffer the costs," New York Attorney General Letitia James, who helped lead the investigation, said in a statement at the time. "These egg producers manipulated the market to squeeze even more profit out of consumers and businesses."

The risk is that product experimentation fails to produce additional spending. Adobe must persuade customers that new capabilities deserve payment while competitors make basic ******* et creation easier. Oasis currently provides no disclosed conversion rate or financial contribution with which investors can test that proposition. Its invitation targets brand-identity and marketing workflows, so success would need to solve repeatable production problems. Generating an attractive demonstration is a different hurdle from becoming the tool a team pays to use every week.

The class includes girls basketball coach Bobby Mellon, former student-athletes Michelle ******* er Rogers and Dan Godfread, Friends of Athletics honorees James and Russ Elliot, the 2002-03 Scholastic Bowl Team and the 1989-90 Chess Team.
Mellon has led the Stillman Valley girls basketball program since 2010 and has compiled a 252-105 varsity record. During his tenure, the Cardinals won five regional ******* les, two sectional championships and a Big Northern Conference championship. Mellon also has earned Illinois Basketball Coaches ******* ociation District Coach of the Year honors five times.
Fager Rogers, a member of the Class of 1996, competed in volleyball, basketball and track and field. She helped two girls basketball teams qualify for the state tournament and qualified for the IHSA State Track Meet in the hurdles. Her honors included Girls Track MVP and SVHS Female Athlete of the Year.
Godfread, a graduate from the Class of 1985, became one of the school's most accomplished basketball players before continuing his career at the University of Evansville. Hibernian and Hearts will meet at Easter Road this evening for the first Edinburgh Derby of the season.
Both sides have enjoyed a solid start to the league season, winning two of their first three matches despite losing the other. Hearts have bounced back from their opening day defeat to Aberdeen by beating Dundee United and St. Johnstone, as well as reaching the league phase of the Europa Conference League. Meanwhile, Hibs have beaten Rangers and Dundee following their home defeat to Motherwell on opening day. They fell at the final hurdle for European qualification, losing 3-2 on aggregate to Gent.
Last season, as we all know, Hearts came incredibly close to lifting their first league ***** le since 1960, but a controversial defeat at Celtic Park on the final day of the season saw them lose out to the Hoops. Hibs enjoyed a strong season themselves, finishing fifth with 57 points, securing back-to-back top-half finishes for the first time this decade.
There were four Edinburgh Derbies last season; Hearts won three whilst Hibs won one, that being a 3-2 victory at Easter Road shortly before the turn of the year. In fact, Hearts' win in the final derby of last season was the point at which many thought they were finally going to topple the Old Firm and go on to lift the ***** le, but of course, it wasn't to be in the end.
That Hearts team has since been largely dismantled, with manager Derek McInnes and top scorer Lawrence Shankland departing for Rangers. However, Claudio Braga remains at the club and has looked just as impressive so far this term as he did last, registering a goal and two ***** ists in his first three league outings.

Fervo Energy (NASDAQ:FRVO), an enhanced geothermal power developer and independent power producer, closed at $19.75, up 28.41%. Pre-market, the company said it signed a 396-megawatt power purchase agreement with Alphabet's (NASDAQ:GOOG) (NASDAQ:GOOGL) Google, and investors are watching next quarter's earnings and project milestones. Trading volume reached 35.0M shares, coming in about 851% above its three-month average of 3.7M shares. Fervo Energy IPO'd in 2026 and has fallen 46% since going public.
S&P 500 (SNPINDEX:^GSPC) closed at 7,633, down 0.70%, while the Nasdaq Composite (NASDAQINDEX:^IXIC) finished at 26,100, down 1.03%. Among utility-scale geothermal power generation and geothermal technology peers, Ormat Technologies (NYSE:ORA) closed at $107.33, up 5.23%, and NextEra Energy (NYSE:NEE) closed at $82.91, up 0.69%, highlighting stronger interest in clean-power names tied to data-center demand.
Fervo Energy shares soared 28% after announcing a major 396-MW purchase agreement with Google, providing visibility into potential revenue for years to come from a top-tier customer. Google will also have the option to expand the deal by 600 MW, bringing it to nearly 1 GW in 2030.
Overall, the deal seems like a natural pairing. Fervo can begin selling power to Google in 2028 from its Cape Station project in Utah, while the company tries to build an artificial intelligence data center in the state. Though Google still has to jump through all the regulatory hurdles to build a data center there, Fervo's 24/7 carbon-free, thermal energy would be an ideal solution for the tech behemoth.
That said, Fervo's projects are still in progress, and Google's rapid data center build-out could decelerate due to any type of AI slowdown, so investors need to note that volatility is unavoidable in this virtually pre-revenue stock, especially as it will be under pressure to supply the amount of power needed in just a few years.

On the two-month anniversary of Juventus Women hiring Isaac Guerrero as their new head coach, the Spanish tactician got his new-look squad past the final hurdle necessary to see them qualify for the Women's Champions League league phase once again.
For some, that was going to be quite the task with so much turnover this summer and Guerrero having little time to get to work with his new team before the qualification process got underway last month.
But in front of the hometown crowd — and some very notable front office member from both the men's and women's sporting area — in Biella on Wednesday night, Guerrero's Bianconere got the result they needed, a 1-1 draw, against Austrian side St. Pölten to qualify for the UWCL league phase. Portuguese midfielder Tatiana Pinto scored Juventus Women's lone goal of the night five minutes before halftime, but it was the 3-0 victory last week in Austria that allowed the Bianconere to see out the game and claim the 4-1 advantage on aggregate in the final round of the qualification path.
And with it came a ticket into the 16-team league phase — which is in effect for a second season after they made the switch to replicate the men's setup at the beginning of last season's competition.
Juve got through the four-team mini tournament last month. They then got a much less complicated draw against St. Pölten as compared to two years ago when they had to go through a Paris Saint-Germain side that was one of the last teams standing the season prior to make the group stage.

It's finally a game week for the defending ACC champion Duke Blue Devils, who open their season against the reigning American Conference champions, Tulane. After seven months of offseason tweaks and offensive retooling, here's how each offensive coordinator arrived at this moment and what to expect from each attack in Week 1.
Jonathan Brewer, Duke
Brewer came over with head coach Manny Diaz in December of 2023 and previously served under him as a senior offensive quality control coach from 2020-2021 at Miami. Last year under Brewer was historic for the Blue Devil offense as the unit set the program record for touchdowns scored (63), points scored (484), and pass efficiency (152.53). The group was the first in school history to have a 3,000-yard passer, 1,000-yard receiver, and 1,000-yard rusher.
The obvious hurdle Brewer and this offense will have to overcome is the churn at quarterback. Darian Mensah was one of the best QB's in all of college football a season ago, which was a massive part of Duke's success offensively.
This season, the Blue Devils will trot out San Jose State transfer Walker Eget, who has some huge shoes to fill but has a great deal of experience as a Division I starter. Brewer has been known to do great work with QB's throughout his career, so it's certainly possible that Eget will come out firing on all cylinders versus Tulane.

Coco Gauff returned to the scene of her grand slam breakthrough on a rain-lashed Tuesday night and safely cleared the first hurdle toward another, launching her pursuit of a second US Open ******* le in four years with a 6-3, 6-4 win over Turkey's Zeynep Sonmez beneath the closed roof of Arthur Ashe Stadium.
The 22-year-old American, seeded fourth in New York, arrived with momentum and expectation running particularly high, fresh off her first ******* le of the year in Cincinnati and having shown encouraging signs that the serve which has so often dictated the rest of her game is becoming a more reliable weapon. Now, three years after she first lifted the trophy here, both a third major championship and the world No 1 ranking are within her reach.
Gauff got off to a confident start before a buzzing crowd, crunching a pair of early aces in a love hold, but the 54th-ranked Sonmez held her own in the muscular baseline exchanges throughout the opening five games. Gauff took control in the sixth, breaking her opponent's serve without dropping a point, then steadied herself through an uneven service game to move to the brink of the set at 5-2. Sonmez held to prolong it, but Gauff calmly served it out after 33 minutes as the heavy rainfall pounding the roof overhead reverberated through Ashe like the inside of a bass drum.
The second set was less straightforward. Gauff broke immediately and appeared poised to pull away, but Sonmez responded by attacking the net and taking advantage of a sudden dip in the American's level, breaking back for 2-all with a searing backhand winner. Gauff then had to dig out of a marathon 16-point service game at 2-3, saving three break points before finally escaping with a 115mph ace down the middle to complete the hold for 3-all. "I knew if I could hold that game, I felt confident breaking the next game," Gauff said.
That proved prescient. Sonmez double-faulted twice in the next game to surrender the critical break, before Gauff consolidated for 5-3 and shortly after held at love to close the show after 1hr 20min.

The House of Representatives passed a resolution condemning socialism on Tuesday evening, with all but eight House Democrats voting against it.
In a stunning twist of fate, however, the vote would not have occurred if two House Democrats hadn't stepped in hours earlier to help the GOP through a procedural hurdle — blindsiding House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, D-N.Y., in the process.
Jeffries later threatened consequences for the pair in a dramatic statement late on Tuesday night, calling their move a "breach of trust."

The Denver Broncos have set their 53-man roster, and all eyes are now set on Arrowhead Stadium for a Monday Night Football clash with the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 1. But the news that Jonathon Cooper was placed on the commissioner's exempt list is a bit of a hurdle, even if it was expected.
Cooper will be unable to practice with or play in any games for the Broncos as long as he is under that status, raising a critical question: Do the Broncos have enough in the pass-rushing department?
Nik Bonitto remains one of the league's best pass-rusher, but the Broncos will have to turn to Jonah Elliss until Cooper is able to rejoin the team. Behind them, the only other edge rushers on the roster are Dondrea Tillman and second-year player Que Robinson.
Former Broncos star Von Miller was available for quite some time and many fans wanted to see that reunion. Instead, the Dallas Cowboys signed Miller. Should the Broncos consider another option before the season kicks off?
The Broncos led the league in sacks last season and were able to generate pressure from all over the defensive alignment. It's likely that coach Sean Payton and defensive coordinator Vance Joseph are highly confident in the players they have, but a veteran option should at least be considered.

Third baseman Carlos Correa was cleared Tuesday to take a significant next step in his attempt to return to the Houston Astros this year from ankle surgery.
Correa, who had surgery in early May for a torn peroneus brevis tendon, had a doctor's appointment Tuesday at which he was cleared to increase his baseball activities. The plan is for Correa to report to the Astros' minor-league facility in West Palm Beach, Fla., this weekend to begin that ramp-up.
"From the moment I had the surgery, my plan has always been to try to get back and play this year," Correa said Tuesday. "So now that we're going to ramp up for real and see how the foot's going to respond, this will be a real test for us to see if we can come back and play."
Correa has increased his activity over the past month while rehabbing in Houston. He is hitting against a pitching machine, taking ground **** and sprinting at "95%" at this point, he said.
Correa has not run bases or faced live pitching, two significant hurdles that would be part of his program in Florida. He will not be playing in games there immediately, as there are still boxes he must check.

Britain's Harriet Dart ended a 19-month wait for a Grand Slam singles win by battling back to beat Peyton Stearns in the US Open first round.
World number 131 Dart had not won a main-draw singles match at a major since reaching the second round of the 2025 Australian Open.
The 30-year-old failed to qualify for four of the next six Grand Slams and fell at the first hurdle at the past two editions of Wimbledon after receiving a wildcard on each occasion.
Taken to three sets in all three of her US Open qualifying matches - including losing the opening set against Kristina Penickova and Heather Watson - Dart once again took the scenic route in New York on Monday.
Trailing by a set and a break against American opponent Stearns, who is ranked more than 75 places above her, she fought back to win 3-6 6-3 6-2.

San Francisco 49ers tight end George Kittle is set to take another step toward a Week 1 return.
ESPN's Pat McAfee on Monday reported Kittle is set to participate in team drills for the 49ers in Tuesday's practice after only participating in the individual portions of practices since being activated off the PUP list.
It isn't necessarily a surprise that Kittle is going to work out in team drills since clearing that hurdle will be paramount to the team being comfortable flying him to Australia to play in Week 1. Kittle will first have to get through the team drills without a problem, and then they'll see how his body responds to going through the closest thing he's had to live football since January.
Barring a disaster, all signs have pointed toward Kittle playing in Week 1 vs. the Los Angeles Rams in Australia. There's been optimism about it since early in the offseason and there's never been any counter reporting to indicate Kittle and the team are eyeing anything but a Week 1 return.
There's always a chance Kittle doesn't quite feel right after Tuesday's practice and the team shuts him down until they're gearing up for Week 2, but it sure seems like the 49ers and Kittle are staying on the timeline that gets him in uniform for their 2026 opener.
