VOO crossed $1 trillion first in ETF history, charging 3 basis points against SPY's 9.45 for identical S&P 500 exposure.
SPYM charges just 0.02%, undercutting even VOO, but its $916 million ****** et base delivers wider spreads and nearly no options coverage.
SPY's 75% five-year gain means taxable account holders face a capital gains bill that could erase years of fee savings by switching.
Don't wait: the ****** yst who called NVIDIA in 2010 just revealed his top 10 AI stocks. See the full list FREE now.
The SPDR S&P 500 ETF Trust (NYSE:SPY) has been the default S&P 500 vehicle since January 23, 1993, and its $9.8 billion-plus ****** et base reflects three decades of habit, deep options liquidity, and institutional inertia. SPY holders own it for a reason: it is the most-traded ETF on the planet, and for anyone running short-dated options or executing block trades, that liquidity is a genuine feature. But a quieter rival is about to hit a milestone SPY never will at current fees. The Vanguard S&P 500 ETF (NYSEARCA:VOO) holds $1.03 trillion in ****** ets, making it the first ETF to cross the trillion-dollar mark, and it does so while charging SPY holders roughly one-third of the fee for the same 500 stocks.

Manchester United continue their pre-season tour of Scandinavia with a visit to Gothenburg, where they'll face reigning Champions League holders PSG.
Michael Carrick's side opened their tour with defeat to Wrexham but have responded with two wins on the bounce, including a promising 2-1 comeback victory over Atletico Madrid in Stockholm last time out, which saw Bryan Mbeumo bag a brace.
LIVE! Follow all the action from Man United v PSG
PSG represent another step up in quality, although several of their star-studded squad will still be recovering after their exploits for France at this summer's World Cup, and the French giants - still missing many of those top names - suffered a 3-0 defeat to Mallorca in the first of their pre-season friendlies.
This game against United's is PSG's second and last friendly of the summer, so it should be a more competitive affair.

Bayer Leverkusen have extended the contracts of managing directors Fernando Carro and Simon Rolfes. While there's been considerable upheaval on the touchline as of late, continuity in Leverkusen's front office has never been an issue. Coaching stability remains elusive at Germany's red company team. Managerial stability, on the other hand, appears set.
Leverkusen confirmed on Saturday that CEO Carro has signed a new deal through summer 2029, while sporting managing director Rolfes has committed his future through 2031. Shareholders' committee chairman Werner Wenning credited both executives with playing central roles in Bayer's development over recent years, including the club's historic domestic double in 2024.
"The greatest sporting successes in our club's history are just as much a result of their work as the sustainable development of the entire club," Wenning said.
"We want to and will remain hungry," Carro noted. "Our ambition remains to continuously improve at all levels."
Rolfes, a former Leverkusen captain, initially returned to the club in an administrative capacity before becoming sporting director and joining the management board in 2022.

The Seattle Seahawks held their eighth public training camp practices early Friday morning, a special practice for season ticket holders and their guests. It was another warm day at team headquarters in Renton, albeit less smoky and hazy than earlier in the week. Much like Wednesday's practice, the Seahawks were not in pads, and indeed they mixed things up with the 11 vs. 11 sessions. There was first-team offense vs. second-team defense, third-team offense vs. first-team defense, the usual 1s vs. 1s and 2s vs. 2s, plus a lot of situational football like red zone and 3rd-and-long work that often decides actual games.
For the second time this week, Field Gulls was on-site at VMAC observing what was just about a three-hour long practice. Myself and fellow Field Gulls staff writer and host of The Hawks Eye podcast, Bryce Coutts, as well as Seahawks Forever podcast host, Dan Viens, filmed an instant reaction video after practice ended with our quick-fire takeaways. We discuss the absence of Jadarian Price (which we now know is due to "lower body soreness" per Gregg Bell), the impressive performances of Emanuel Wilson and Ricky White III, a name to watch at the edge, and a promised wrinkle in Brian Fleury's offense that we saw heavily worked on in today's practice.
Oh yeah, and there's a new fullback here who's already getting into the swing of things. Here's new fullback Brock Lampe with RBs coach Thomas Hammock.
This is only a 7-minute video, which should make it digestible for everyone who's able to have a listen! But tonight's big event for us is the Seahawks Syndicate Town Hall Q&A, which goes live at 7:30 pm PT on YouTube and will also be available to watch on Field Gulls! We'll be talking camp, Seahawks football in general, doing some trivia, and a bunch of other fun stuff for our in-person studio audience at Fast Fashion Brewing in SoDo. That article is coming up on FG later on Friday evening.
If you attended camp with us, feel free to share your thoughts in the comments section!

Jeff Bezos filed to sell about 15 million Amazon shares worth roughly $4.1 billion, but the timing is almost comically bad. The filing landed a day after the stock hit an all-time high and pushed Amazon's market value above $3 trillion, according to CNBC. Amazon shares fell more than 2% Tuesday right after the filing went public.
Lest you think he's raining on Amazon's parade, though, this wasn't some spur-of-the-moment cash grab. The sale was set up months ago under a prearranged trading plan Bezos adopted back in November 2025, the kind of scheduled arrangement executives use specifically so they don't look like they're trying to time the market.
The record high itself came on the back of a genuinely strong quarter, with faster-than-expected growth in Amazon's cloud business convincing investors that its AI bets are finally paying off. The stock is up about 20% this year, easily outpacing the S&P 500's 12% gain.
Even though he stepped down as CEO in 2021, Bezos is still one of Amazon's biggest shareholders. He sold $4.8 billion worth of shares in a similar filing last year, and he donated 220,200 shares to nonprofits back in May.

Marathon Petroleum (MPC) posted $17.73 EPS against a $13.95 estimate as its refining margin nearly doubled to $36 per barrel.
Valero (VLO) warns margins could drop 28% by 2027, but structural limits keep today's crack spreads historically wide. No new U.S. refinery has been built since 1976.
Act now: the **** yst who called NVIDIA in 2010 just named his top 10 AI stocks — and Marathon Petroleum didn't make the cut. Grab the names FREE today.
Marathon Petroleum (NYSE:MPC) reported $17.73 in quarterly earnings per share against a $13.95 estimate, and its stock is up 90.47% year to date. If you have been grumbling at the pump about $4.08 gasoline, congratulations, you found the party. However, you were not invited unless you were invested here.
CNBC's Pippa Stevens laid out the setup on air Tuesday. "Fuel prices are high and crude has pulled back, creating a perfect situation for the refiners. EPS up 975% quarter over quarter and nearly 350% year over year." That is the whole thesis in two sentences. Marathon booked $5.14 billion in net income, up from $1.22 billion a year earlier, and returned over $2.80 billion to shareholders in a single quarter. Revenue landed at $51.99 billion. That cleared the $41.44 billion consensus.

Electronic Arts announced the completion of its acquisition by a consortium comprising Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund, private equity firm Silver Lake, and Affinity Partners, the investment firm led by Jared Kushner. The deal, valued at $55 billion, closed on Tuesday, according to CNBC.
EA shareholders received $210 in cash per share. The company's stock has ceased trading and has been delisted from Nasdaq, EA said.
The consortium's agreement to acquire the Redwood City, California-based video game maker was first announced on September 29, 2025, and EA stockholders approved the deal at a special meeting on December 22, 2025.
Andrew Wilson, chairman and CEO of Electronic Arts, said in a statement that the company would "invest boldly, accelerate innovation, and build the next generation of games and experiences" with its new partners.
Turqi Alnowaiser, deputy governor and head of international investments at PIF, noted that the fund had been a minority investor in EA for more than five years. "Entertainment and sports are key areas of strategic focus for PIF, and are among the fastest growing and evolving sectors around the world," he said in a statement.

Palantir Technologies (PLTR) has posted the kind of earnings report that makes a pricey company seem nearly fair.
Revenue surged 93% year over year. U.S. commercial sales jumped 149%. Government revenue climbed 90%. Profit margins expanded while growth accelerated, an unusual combination for any software company, let alone one approaching $2 billion in quarterly revenue.
And they responded accordingly.
Palantir shares surged 29.5% on Aug. 4, according to CNBC, its highest one-day percentage gain since February 2024, after the firm raised its annual projection and beat Wall Street's second-quarter estimates.
That surge presented a difficult dilemma for shareholders and would-be buyers.

NUGT surged 14% and AGQ jumped 9% today, but both funds remain deeply negative for 2026 despite the rally.
Kinross posted record free cash flow of $840 million in Q2; Gold Fields grew production 15% at a $4,855/oz realized gold price.
NUGT's 10-year return of -79% shows how daily-reset compounding decay can devastate leveraged ETF holders over any multi-day window.

Leveraged precious-metals ETFs are the standouts on Wall Street this session, with the Direxion Daily Gold Miners Bull 2X Shares (NYSEARCA:NUGT) surging 14.46% and the ProShares Ultra Silver (NYSEARCA:AGQ) climbing 9.39% as both gold and silver spot prices rally, both up between 4% and 5%. The SPDR Gold Shares (NYSEARCA:GLD) is up 4.3% on the session, and traders are attributing the metals bid to a softer US dollar, easing Treasury yields, and market expectations around cooling inflation and geopolitical de-escalation. Those are the catalysts being cited on desks rather than any single confirmed event.

Shares are down roughly a fifth over the past year, and the risk that matters now is a spending plan with no stated payback date.
Meta Platforms (META) has spent the past year losing an argument with its own shareholders. The business is not the problem: revenue grew 28% year over year in the second quarter of 2026. The problem is what that growth now costs to produce, and the biggest risk to the stock is that ***** ody has put a date on when the spending pays.
Where The Twenty-Eight Percent Goes
Total expenses climbed 55% to $42 billion in that quarter, and operating income went backwards, falling 8% to $18.8 billion on revenue of $60.8 billion. Legal charges of $2.4 billion and $1.2 billion of severance from the May 2026 head count reduction account for part of that, and both are one-off items. Strip them out, though, and management's own arithmetic still leaves operating income up only 9% against 28% revenue growth, because much of the durable pressure sits in the infrastructure line: higher depreciation, the cost of running data centers, and third-party cloud spend, all rising to serve a compute build that management itself calls a big bet.

Madden NFL, the video game that allows you to escape reality by doing things like coaching the Jets to a Super Bowl, now belongs to Saudi Arabia's sovereign wealth fund and, in a small but well-compensated way, the President of the United States' son-in-law.
The Public Investment Fund of Saudi Arabia closed its $55 billion purchase of Electronic Arts on Tuesday alongside Silver Lake and Jared Kushner's Affinity Partners. Shareholders collected $210 a share in cash. EA's stock stopped trading and comes off the Nasdaq, ending a 36-year public run.
It's the largest leveraged buyout in history, a phrase worth sitting with, because the previous record holder was the 2007 buyout of Texas utility TXU, which ended in one of the biggest bankruptcies in American history.
The financing is where this gets video game-level fun. PIF (which already owned roughly 9.9% of EA) borrowed $20 billion from JPMorgan, which also advised the consortium, so JPMorgan earned a fee for recommending the deal and now earns interest funding it. Kushner, who reportedly brokered the introduction between the Saudis and EA, runs a fund that PIF seeded with $2 billion in 2021 over the objections of PIF's own advisers. The money left Riyadh, hired a Kushner, and came home with EA Sports FC and Jedi Survivor.

Space Exploration Technologies (NASDAQ: SPCX) reported its first financial update as a publicly traded company (for the second quarter) on Aug. 4 amid high expectations. The company's shares rose before it released its earnings report. Unfortunately, the **** e company's results disappointed the market, sending the stock sharply lower and extending the losses from recent weeks. **** eX stock is down 20% from its IPO price and 52% from its all-time high. However, even at current levels, the company's shares aren't attractive, in my view. Here are three reasons why I am not buying the dip yet.
Missed Nvidia in 2009? This Rare Signal Is Flashing Again. In 2009, a "Double Down" signal flashed for a little-known chipmaker called Nvidia. For the first time in years, that same "Total Conviction" signal is flashing for a company 1/100th the size of Nvidia. Continue »
SpaceX's second-quarter results weren't bad. The company's revenue soared 92% year over year to $7.8 billion, while it cut its net loss nearly in half, landing at $541 million for the period, versus the $1 billion reported in the prior-year quarter. However, there are some worrying signs. Notably, **** eX is spending a small fortune to capitalize on what it perceives as a massive opportunity in artificial intelligence (AI). During the second quarter, **** eX's capex within its AI business was $15.8 billion, more than doubling quarter over quarter. It was also more than six times the capex in its two other operating segments combined.
Management says it will continue to spend heavily on AI over the next few quarters. That's a problem for the company's near-term performance. The market is punishing other corporations that are also spending heavily on AI, even when they generate significantly more revenue and earnings than **** eX and also boast attractive opportunities in this market. Perhaps the spending is justified and will eventually transform **** eX's business. But it's unlikely that we will see a significant return on investment from **** eX's AI-related spending over the next year, which leads me to believe that the stock may fall further and offer investors who believe in its vision an even more attractive entry point.
SpaceX is acquiring Cursor, an AI start-up, for $60 billion. One noteworthy aspect of this deal is that it is an all-stock transaction. Translation: **** eX is diluting existing shareholders by issuing new shares to fund this acquisition. It may be worth it in the long run if Cursor can improve **** eX's AI business, but this transaction may put downward pressure on the stock over the next year or so, especially if many of these new shareholders decide to cash out.

Max Alleyne returned to Manchester City in January of last season in City's hour of need after Ruben Dias and Josko Gvardiol both went down with serious injuries. Alleyne had shone for Watford in the Championship when he was recalled by City. He was immediately thrown into the starting lineup by Pep Guardiola when City took on Brighton at the Etihad and went on to make seven appearances for Manchester City last season. Alleyne showed enough last season that there is a future for him at the FA Cup and Carabao Cup holders.
Enzo Maresca's side has now played friendlies against Inter Milan and the K-League All-Stars. Max Alleyne has come on at halftime of both matches. In those two games, Alleyne has looked to be a more mature player and it does seem that his time with Pep Guardiola's squad last season, on top of his time at Watford, has done him the world of good.
Vitor Reis has been impressive playing at centre-back in each of the past two friendlies that Manchester City have played. At the same time, Max Alleyne has quietly gone about his work alongside Vitor Reis. Enzo Maresca's system, much like Pep Guardiola's, employs a high defensive line which means that Manchester City's defenders have to guard for the ball over the top and any counterattacks from Inter Milan and the K-League All-Stars. In this regard, Max Alleyne has been elite. He has closed down danger well and his ability to anticipate the game and any danger from City's past two opponents has also stood out.
In possession, Max Alleyne has also played his role well. He isn't yet a game-breaking centre-back in possession. However, he knows where to play the ball and how to keep Manchester City's possession play ticking over. That has been pleasing to see from Alleyne.
What stands out is that on both sides of the ball, Max Alleyne has benefited from spending the final six months of last season at Manchester City. He understands City's concepts both in and out of possession well. The time he spent as a member of Pep Guardiola's squad last season has prepared him for life under Enzo Maresca.

Prioritizing cash flow and stability can be crucial for investors who are in their retirement years. As investors age, it becomes more important to preserve capital rather than risk it in growth stocks that may or may not achieve their lofty ambitions.
Three stocks that retirees may want to consider for their portfolios today include Verizon Communications (NYSE: VZ), Medtronic (NYSE: MDT), and Duke Energy (NYSE: DUK). These dividend stocks can add diversification, generate a ton of dividend income over the years, and be fairly safe investments to hang on to, even amid market instability.
Continue »
Cash flow is what retirees can expect from Verizon Communications stock. They can generate a boatload of it from the stock's lavish dividend, which yields close to 6.1%. It's a payout that almost seems too good to be true for a top telecom stock. The stock has risen 14% this year and has begun to rally after a pullback that spanned multiple years. Rising interest rates have weighed on many telecom stocks, even though their underlying businesses remain sound. Verizon is a prime example of that.
The business pays its shareholders a ton of cash and also generates plenty of it. In the trailing 12 months, Verizon's free cash flow has totaled more than $20 billion, easily enough to cover the roughly $12 billion it paid in dividends during that period. That also puts it in an excellent position to raise its cash dividend payments in the future.

Turns out the safest bet in toys right now isn't a toy at all. It's a piece of cardboard with a cartoon monster on it. Asmodee just proved that trading cards are quietly the best business in the building, better margins, more heat, more staying power than anything with a board and a rulebook attached. Investors bought in for CATAN. They're staying for the booster packs.
Asmodee shares jumped to a record high after a first-quarter earnings beat that had Pokémon doing most of the heavy lifting.
Net sales rose 20.9% to €422.1 million (about $486.2 million), ahead of expectations near €404 million, with organic growth just over 20%, meaning this wasn't acquisitions doing the work. Trading card games led the way, up 23.1% to €285 million on demand for Pokémon, Magic: The Gathering, Yu-Gi-Oh, One Piece and a run of newer ****** les. Board games grew 16% to €103 million, helped by evergreen franchises like CATAN and Dobble, new releases and expansions, plus a contribution from recently acquired ATM Gaming.
Profitability outran sales. Adjusted EBITDA climbed 55% to €61.9 million from €39.9 million, and the margin expanded to 14.7% from 11.4%. EBIT rose to €40.5 million, and profit attributable to shareholders swung to €17 million from a €1.6 million loss a year earlier. Shares rose as much as 10% on the news.

In the lastest Bitcoin news today, Strategy (Nasdaq: MSTR), Michael Saylor's bitcoin treasury company, disclosed the sale of 1,638 BTC for approximately $105 million in an 8-K filing with the SEC.
Proceeds are expected to fund dividend payments on Strategy's preferred stock classes – including STRC, STRK, STRD, STRF, and STRE – and to pay for repurchases of STRC preferred shares.
This is not simply a Bitcoin sale. It is a capital structure management exercise, with Strategy running a parallel set of levers – BTC monetization and reserve allocation – to service a preferred-stock stack that carries rising cash obligations.
DISCOVER: Best Meme Coins to Buy in 2026
Strategy liquidated the 1,638 BTC at an average of roughly $64,000 per coin, a price that sits materially below the firm's all-in average acquisition cost of $75,419. Despite offloading a portion of its reserves and now sitting on a $10.9 billion paper loss, Strategy remains one of the largest corporate holders of Bitcoin globally, and the $105 million sale represents a small fraction of its total portfolio.

According to the report, the bondholders have sent a "letter before action" to Aston Martin's board, warning that legal proceedings may follow.

CapVest Partners-backed Curium has agreed to buy rival US-based radiopharmaceutical company Lantheus in an all-cash deal worth up to nearly $8bn.
The deal will take the Nasdaq-listed Lantheus private.
Under the agreement, Curium US will purchase all outstanding shares of Lantheus for $102.50 per share upon closing.
Lantheus' shareholders are also set to receive non-transferable contingent value rights (CVRs) that could provide up to an additional $12.00 per share if certain commercial milestones for the company's product portfolio are met by 2030. SEOUL, Aug 4 (Reuters) - South Korean retail shareholder platform ACT said on Tuesday it had launched a campaign to call an extraordinary ‌shareholders' meeting at Samsung Electronics, urging the chipmaker to buy back about $32 ‌billion worth of shares and set limits on performance bonuses.
ACT said it would begin collecting electronic signatures from shareholders at 5 p.m. local time and seek support from the National Pension Service and domestic and overseas **** et managers to meet the 3% ownership threshold required to call the meeting.
The move comes after Samsung shares lost over ‌one third of their value since hitting record-highs in June, despite the artificial intelligence boom. The falls were driven by a sharp wave of deleveraging and renewed skepticism regarding the durability of AI infrastructure spending.

LIV Golf CEO Scott O'Neil announced an agreement Wednesday with a lead investor that would allow the rival league to forge ahead without the backing of Saudi funding while making players major equity holders.
O'Neil did not identify the investor, only that it has signed an agreement that was approved by LIV's board and signals "the path forward for the League's next era, driven by and for the players."
O'Neil said LIV is getting "strong interest" from more than a dozen other parties who would be minority investors as the league tries to survive. They spoke on the eve of LIV Golf New York at Trump Bedminster, the penultimate individual tournament.
LIV is to play in Indianapolis on Aug. 20-23. The season-ending team championship in Michigan has been in doubt for several weeks, mainly because the course has not even begun setting up for a tournament scheduled to start in three weeks.
LIV Golf, which launched in 2022 with the financial backing of the Public Investment Fund of Saudi Arabia, paid nine-figure bonuses to lure top players like Brooks Koepka, Dustin Johnson, Bryson DeChambeau and Jon Rahm away from the PGA Tour, offering $20 million prize funds.

LIV Golf has announced a new organizational structure that will make the tour's players "the majority equity holders" CEO Scott O'Neil says, and will create "a multi-partner model built for long-term stability and growth."
O'Neil made the announcement on Wednesday, Aug. 5, from Trump National Bedminster in New Jersey, the site of this week's tournament.
"LIV Golf has an agreement in place with a lead investor, signed by the investor and approved by the Board, to anchor the transaction and play a key role in supporting the path forward for the League's next era, driven by and for the players," O'Neil said in a statement.
"Notably, our next chapter will make our players the majority equity holders in LIV Golf, a first for a major global sports league, and gives the League the foundation to keep growing the game worldwide."

The future of LIV Golf has been in question for months, with the announcement that the league's funding would be pulled at the end of the season.
On Wednesday, CEO Scott O'Neil held a press conference at Trump National Bedminster. Many believed it would be to cancel the upcoming team championship, but instead it was an announcement that the company had found a lead investor, appearing to secure the league's future.
"LIV Golf has an agreement in place with a lead investor, signed by the investor and approved by the Board, to anchor the transaction and play a key role in supporting the path forward for the League's next era, driven by and for the players.
We're also seeing strong interest from more than a dozen additional parties to potentially serve as minority investors, creating a multi-partner model built for long-term stability and growth.
Notably, our next chapter will make our players the majority equity holders in LIV Golf, a first for a major global sports league, and gives the League the foundation to keep growing the game worldwide. We anticipate finalizing terms in the coming weeks, with the goal of entering a transaction in September.
