Mena Massoud
Playing the leading role in a major Hollywood blockbuster that earned a billion dollars is the dream of many in the entertainment world. To do so alongside one of the biggest movie stars of all time, Will Smith, was certainly a dream come true for Mena Massoud. I sat down with him to unpack a hidden secret to career success that is not often discussed: the art of defiant surrender.
For many who lead companies or compete at a high level, it can feel like every moment must be maximized and every outcome manipulated. The performance literature points us somewhere else, to a flow state in which the brain is not preoccupied with holding tightly to every future outcome.
It may seem counterintuitive, but this liberates the brain to be in a place to actually access its best abilities.

Elizabeth Debicki has built a career around following unexpected possibilities. Born in Paris and raised in Australia, the actress grew up surrounded by performance but did not always imagine herself becoming a screen star. Archaeology, history and even law once competed for her attention before acting ultimately became her chosen path. That curiosity has remained visible in a career spanning stylish spy movies, ambitious science fiction and acclaimed television drama. Rather than following a predictable route, Debicki has repeatedly embraced roles that challenge what audiences expect from her.
Debicki was born to professional dancers, a Polish father and an Australian mother of Irish heritage. After the family moved to Melbourne when she was young, dance became an important part of her childhood. She trained in ballet before eventually deciding that acting offered the creative direction she wanted to pursue. Growing up as the eldest of three children also gave her a reputation within the family for being confident and ****** ertive, even though she has described her younger self as more awkward and bookish.
Before settling on drama, Debicki was fascinated by archaeology and the stories hidden within history. She also considered studying law and performed strongly academically. Acting ultimately won, and she studied drama at the Victorian College of the Arts at the University of Melbourne. Soon after graduating, she began attracting professional opportunities that quickly moved her career forward.
One of her important early breakthroughs came when Baz Luhrmann cast her as Jordan Baker in The Great Gatsby. The 2013 film placed Debicki alongside Leonardo DiCaprio, Carey Mulligan and Tobey Maguire, introducing her to a large international audience. She followed it with Guy Ritchie's The Man from U.N.C.L.E. in 2015, playing the sophisticated villain Victoria Vinciguerra. The role pushed her into the stylish world of action cinema, despite Debicki not being a driver herself at the time.
Her versatility became increasingly apparent through projects including The Night Manager, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 and Widows. In 2020, she joined Christopher Nolan's Tenet as Kat, bringing emotional vulnerability to a complicated science fiction thriller filled with elaborate action sequences and unusual ideas about time.

Yet, amid the public attention surrounding his life and death, there was also a quieter side of him that remained largely hidden from the public.

Ken went live on TikTok on Wednesday night, according to TMZ. The footage offered very little indication of what was happening, although he appeared to be traveling somewhere while strong wind could be heard throughout the recording.

FleetCor and CEO Ronald Clarke agreed to a $100 million payment resolving Federal Trade Commission litigation. The settlement follows years of court action over hidden charges involving commercial fuel cards. Harm reached tens of thousands among small-business customers seeking lower operating costs. Regulators say promised savings disappeared beneath undisclosed billing practices.
Federal regulators accused FleetCor, which now operates as Corpay, of imposing unauthorized fees totaling hundreds of millions. Investigators found improper late penalties despite timely remittance or company barriers that prevented payment. Officials cited misleading claims about gas savings, fraud controls, plus card-related expenses. Those practices harmed operators across the United States, according to a 2019 complaint.
Regulators found FleetCor often waited several billing cycles before adding many charges. Delayed timing made extra costs harder for customers to notice. Invoices omitted fee disclosures, pushing account holders toward separate management reports. Even those documents obscured some amounts among unrelated details or excluded them entirely.
"FleetCor deceived its small business customers by promising fuel savings that never materialized," Christopher Mufarrige said. He directs FTC's Bureau of Consumer Protection. Agency officials also criticized hidden and unauthorized charges. Settlement terms channel restitution toward harmed account holders.
In 2023, one federal district court granted summary judgment to the FTC on every count. Its ruling found hidden charges and false representations involving savings, fees, plus fraud-control features. Permanent injunction terms barred FleetCor from billing without informed consent alongside clear disclosures. That order also prohibited deceptive fuel-card claims or hiding material information behind hyperlinks.

As high mortgage rates and elevated home prices continue to crimp housing affordability, Federal Housing Finance Agency's Bill Pulte is seeking cuts to a common "hidden cost" of homeownership.
Targeting private mortgage insurance, which around 800,000 borrowers used to buy homes last year, Pulte is aligning policies between mortgage giants Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac to allow loan servicers to proactively call borrowers when they're eligible to drop their mortgage insurance. Previously, only Freddie Mac allowed servicers to do so.
"If your Home is worth more, or you have paid the loan down far enough, you should be able to drop EXTRA Mortgage Insurance," Pulte wrote in a post on X on Tuesday.
"Right now Fannie Mae will not let your loan company call and tell you that you may qualify because your home has gone up in value! You have to know to ask. Freddie Mac will let them call. That is crazy. We are fixing that. Fannie Mae will follow Freddie's rule: if you may qualify to drop unnecessary extra insurance because your home has gained value, they can contact you and walk you through how to cancel your PMI. You can stop paying for coverage you do not need and keep the money."

Lady Gaga wrapped her Mayhem Ball tour at New York City's Madison Square Garden on April 13 before largely retreating from the public eye. Now, a new report is shedding light on what was happening behind the scenes.
Rob Shuter reported in his Naughty But Nice Substack on Saturday, September 12, that the 40-year-old singer quietly pulled back from public life while preparing for one of the biggest changes of her life: becoming a mother.
"People close to her felt completely blindsided," a source told Shuter. "Not because they were upset, but because she managed to keep something this big hidden for so long. In Hollywood, that's almost impossible."
As In Touch previously reported, Gaga welcomed her first child with fiancé Michael Polansky. The couple, who began dating in 2019 and became engaged in 2024, have not confirmed their baby's name or date of birth.

Kylie Jenner has officially sold her longtime Hidden Hills mansion for $15.3 million. The 29-year-old multi-million-dollar beauty brand founder originally wanted $20.25 million for the property, but the final deal came after a series of price changes. The sale also comes as Jenner works on a new dream home nearby.
As per TMZ, the sale was completed on Friday, Sept. 11, according to property records. Jenner first put the mansion on the market for $20.25 million in March. A month later, the asking price dropped by $2.3 million to $17.99 million before the property eventually sold for $15.3 million.
The home had already entered a pending sale status by Wednesday, Sept. 2. However, the final price came in about $2.7 million below the reduced asking price and nearly $5 million under the original listing price.
Jenner bought the property for $12.05 million in late 2016 when she was 19. The sprawling estate covers more than 13,000 square feet and sits on a private 1.4-acre lot.
The eight-bedroom home features a private theater, game room with a wet bar, office with a fireplace, gym and massage room. The property also includes eight full bathrooms, along with an attached guest residence that has its own entrance, bedroom, bathroom, kitchenette, sitting area and courtyard.

Reality TV superstar and fashion mogul Kylie Jenner has finally found a buyer for her longtime California mansion, offloading the home for $15.3 million.
Kylie, 29, who is currently in a very high-profile relationship with Timothee Chalamet, purchased the sprawling 13,200-square-foot Hidden Hills dwelling for $12.05 million in late 2016, when she was just 19. It initially served as the on-screen star's primary residence for many years.
However, Kylie—who is the youngest sister of Kim Kardashian, Khloe Kardashian, Kourtney Kardashian, and Kendall Jenner—was ready for a change, having also listed her enormous concrete abode in the Holmby Hills for the even higher price of $48 million in December.
After listing the home for $20.25 million—nearly 10 years after she scooped up the enormous abode for almost half that price—Jenner sold the dwelling for $15.3 million, Realtor.com® can exclusively reveal.
Jenner carried out extensive renovations to her Hidden Hills starter home, which is now "designed for both everyday living and grand-scale entertaining," according to the listing, which was held by fellow reality TV star Josh Altman, of Douglas Elliman.

Ford Motor Company (NYSE: F) stock soared nearly 50% in May, as Wall Street began seeing the legacy automotive company as a hidden-gem infrastructure play as the demand for artificial intelligence (AI) and data center energy explodes. The stock has since given back about half of its May surge, and that gives investors who see long-term growth an opportunity to jump back in at a better price.
Here's why investors should be intrigued.
Missed Nvidia in 2009? This Rare Signal Is Flashing Again. In 2009, a "Double Down" signal flashed for a little-known chipmaker called Nvidia. For the first time in years, that same "Total Conviction" signal is flashing for a company 1/100th the size of Nvidia. Continue »
In May, the Detroit automaker announced its wholly owned subsidiary, called Ford Energy, which will develop and offer a battery energy storage system (BESS) for utility customers, AI data centers, and other large industrial and commercial customers. Savvy investors may have seen this coming, but for the most part, Ford built the new business behind the scenes, securing supply chains and preparing manufacturing. Ford Energy will manufacture battery cells, **** emble modules and containers, and offer sales and service support, which could be the lucrative part. That's because the automaker's Ford Energy DC block was designed to have a stable and predictable lifetime performance for about two decades.
To help connect the dots for investors wondering, AI data centers run intense workloads that put immense strain on the electrical grid. Ford's BESS give AI data centers security in the event of electrical grid fluctuations or blackouts, as the centers need an uninterrupted power supply. The systems will also provide power during AI workload spikes, charge when electricity is cheap, and discharge when prices peak, ultimately lowering costs and providing downtime protection.

Like every year, Apple (AAPL) has officially scheduled its next product launch event for Sept. 9, naming it "Surprise and Shine." Boring investing strategies aren't always bad. While some people look for hidden opportunities that no one is considering, the best investments may be hidden in plain sight.
That's why my boring prediction is that AI stocks will continue to rally. These stocks aren't exactly the greatest-kept secrets. Nvidia (NASDAQ: NVDA) has grown into the world's most valuable publicly traded company in recent years. More investors are also looking toward smaller AI stocks instead of just relying on chipmakers, which is the same approach I have used for my portfolio.

iShowSpeed is putting $1 million on the table, but winning a piece of it will require more than liking a post. The 21-year-old streamer, whose real name is Darren Watkins Jr., is at the center of a new nine-week competition that will send fans through a series of online and real-world challenges, culminating in a $250,000 final hunt. The competition launched on August 31 and runs through October 31.
Dubbed SPEEDRUN: Million Dollar Mission, the competition comprises 25 challenges across the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, and Australia. Players can hunt for hidden briefcases, participate through social media, and find QR codes connected to the game at more than 4,000 Walmart locations and other participating retailers.
TikTok Shop loot boxes are also part of the competition. Dr. Squatch, which partnered with iShowSpeed on the campaign, first approached his team with the idea in April 2025.
COMPLEX SHOP: Shop the brands you love, anytime and anywhere. Uncover what's next. Buy. Collect. Obsess.
For Speed, the deciding factor in taking on a brand deal is whether it can fit naturally into the kind of content his viewers already watch. "If I can't make something entertaining or do something my audience would actually expect from me, I'm probably not going to be excited about it or even do it at all," he said to Forbes.

A $500,000 pre-tax 401(k) overstates real value because withdrawals face ordinary income tax at rates up to 37%, plus state taxes on top.
After divorce, the Section 121 home-sale exclusion drops from $500,000 to $250,000, exposing any appreciation above that cap to capital gains tax.

Manchester City's lease at the Etihad Stadium was placed under review last month amid a major expansion of the club's east Manchester campus, it has emerged.
City has a long-term lease at the ground with Manchester City Council and finished expanding its north stand earlier this year, which increased the stadium capacity to more than 60,000 people.
It has been building a new £300m entertainment zone known as Medlock Square which includes a Radisson Blu Hotel and a zip-line, with plans for a new 600-person capacity entertainment venue which the council granted planning permission in June.
The lease review was sparked as a result of changes taking place around the Etihad Campus, the Local Democracy Reporting Service (LDRS) understands.
Council papers describing a decision about a "variation of leases with Manchester City Football Club" have been made public on the town hall's website but specifics of the finances have been kept hidden from view.

A loan estimate looks like a done deal. It isn't. Some of the numbers on it can legally change by up to 10% before closing, and a few can change by any amount.
Shopping around for a mortgage is crucial, and it starts with the loan estimate, a three-page document detailing the interest rate, estimated costs and other loan terms.
87% of 2025 borrowers paid above the most competitive rate available to them simply because they didn't compare offers, according to Bankrate's Hidden Homeownership Tax research. The typical cost of not shopping: $3,343 a year, or $278 a month.
A mortgage loan estimate is a standardized, three-page document that a lender must send you within three business days of receiving your mortgage application. It lists your rate, monthly payment, closing costs and other terms — but none of these numbers are final. Think of it as a detailed price quote: close enough to compare lenders and build an accurate budget, but not enough to guarantee what you'll actually pay at closing.
When you compare loan estimates from more than one lender, you're more likely to uncover the lowest rate you actually qualify for. Freddie Mac found that borrowers who obtained two rate quotes during the high-rate months of October and November 2022, when average rates topped 7%, could have saved up to $600 a year. Borrowers who obtained at least four quotes could have saved more than $1,200 a year.

When bestselling author Katherine Rundell meets young readers, they sometimes play it cool.
They know fantasy books like her "Impossible Creatures," set on magical hidden islands with dragons and sphinxes, are fiction. But they lean in anyway, with a glint in their eyes, and ask, "Just to check, though, is any of it real?"
It's a rewarding comment for the author, 39, who crafted a world real enough to spark that kind of wonder. Speaking to USA TODAY with the soothing lilt of a Miss Honey, Rundell is protective of her young readers and their imaginations. In a recent essay in The Guardian, she argued that artificial intelligence "risks becoming an iron curtain that comes down between a young person and their potential for thinking."
Could fantasy books be the antidote? Rundell is the first author since J.K. Rowling to simultaneously top the children's book charts in the UK and U.S. Queen Camilla will gift every Year 6 student in the UK a copy of "Impossible Creatures" for Christmas this year. Walt Disney Studios has ***** ed up the film rights for a whopping seven figures. And a recent review said the series' next installment, "The Neverfear" (out now from Knopf Books for Young Readers) "would make JRR Tolkien proud."
"I don't think the world is going to become an easier place to be in the next few years. I think it's going to get harder … So I would love to write a book that has in it peril, danger, but also has in it a sense that even amid peril and danger and fear, it is worth finding reasons to rejoice," she tells USA TODAY. "There is a reason that the book begins and ends with a feast, because I wanted the idea that there is always cause for hope. There is always a reason to come together and celebrate love, celebrate humanity."

Thailand began their Asia Cup campaign with a six-run victory over Hong Kong, defending a 120/9 and winning with a tense finish. Chaiwai was the Player of the Match for this game, acting as an integral part of that total with a 43 off 31 **** , four 4s and two 6s.
And these innings were very informative, not just because of the match stats. They told us quite a bit about Chaiwai's role in Thailand Cricket. With her mindset of "We played cricket with happiness" (Chaiwai after her 2022 Asia Cup Win over Pak), she is a player that absorbs the pressure, holds her own at the playing field, and performs when the country best needs to provide a hefty defense and total.

MD Sass, a boutique ****** et management firm, published its second-quarter investor update for its flagship, the "MD Sass Concentrated Value Strategy." The letter can be downloaded here. This growth was fueled by semiconductor, memory, and hardware companies benefiting from AI development, even though they are considered cyclical. These sectors, representing only 7.7% of the Russell 1000 Value at the start of the year, contributed nearly 70% of its returns. The portfolio gained 10.0% in the second quarter, net of fees, compared to 13.9% for the Russell 1000 Value Index. Year-to-date, the strategy returned 6.6%, net of fees, versus 16.3% for the Index. The portfolio faced challenges due to limited exposure to companies with the greatest upside from AI infrastructure investments. It also lacked exposure to the Energy sector, which returned about 20% in the first half amid geopolitical tensions with Iran that increased commodity prices, affecting performance. The firm recognizes the importance of adapting its strategies while maintaining core investment principles as it explores future opportunities in emerging technological themes. Its core Distribution business aggregates hardware, software, cloud products, and services while providing inventory, financing, configuration, and technical support to resellers and systems integrators. Distribution is a low-margin business, but scale matters, and SNX is increasingly benefiting as major vendors consolidate their channel relationships around a smaller number of global partners.
