The White House has responded to Rosie O'Donnell's critique of its' Appointments Secretary Natalie Harp.
While filling in for Jimmy Kimmel on his late-night show this week, the comedian has taken daily jabs at President Donald Trump. Her latest has been centered around his controversial relationship with his political aide.
During her opening monologue on Wednesday, August 19, O'Donnell said, "A special **** o to those of you watching from home — and from the White House. But I do have some bad news for President Petty Roosevelt: that's all I'm gonna say about you tonight, sweetheart."
She continued, "You gotta realize it's time to hang up your wig and let Natalie tuck you in. Time to go nighty-night!"

Ivanka Trump stepped out in polished tailoring while wearing a familiar chic power suit for a business meeting in New York City. The former White House senior adviser was photographed leaving an office building in Manhattan before heading to a waiting SUV. While reports linked the outing to a possible meeting with Backlot, it was her timeless Sandro ensemble that stole the spotlight.
Ivanka rewore her Sandro tailored blazer and matching trousers in Almond Green for the NYC outing. The double-breasted blazer featured sharp lapels, structured shoulders, and contrasting white ******* ons that stood out against the soft pastel hue. Its tailored fit cinched gently at the waist before falling into coordinated cropped trousers, giving the classic power suit a lighter, more contemporary feel.
Ivanka paired the Sandro suit with white strappy heels that added a clean, summery finish to the monochromatic ensemble. She kept her accessories understated and carried a tote with the Backlot logo. The bag sparked speculation about the purpose of her Manhattan meeting. The minimal styling allowed the sharply tailored suit to remain the focal point of the look.
Her blonde hair was styled in loose, soft waves with a center part. The relaxed style offered a nice contrast to the structured silhouette. Meanwhile, her beauty look remained fresh and understated. She chose a "no-makeup" makeup finish and a nude lip that complemented the suit's pale green shade. The natural glam reinforced the refined, business-ready aesthetic.
The outfit was not a new addition to Ivanka's wardrobe. She previously wore the same Sandro pantsuit during her time in Washington, making the NYC appearance a notable fashion repeat. The latest outing highlights how the tailored set can still work as a polished choice years after its first appearance.

US stocks rose on Wednesday, snapping a three-day losing streak, after the US Treasury Department said it would increase its buybacks of long-dated government debt, leading yields to pull back sharply.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average (^DJI) and the S&P 500 (^GSPC) both gained 0.2%, while the tech-heavy Nasdaq Composite (^IXIC) also roughly put on 0.2%.
In individual stocks, Moderna (MRNA) shares surged 176% after the company reported positive results from its late-stage trial of a melanoma vaccine developed with Merck (MRK).
Stocks gained momentum after Treasury yields eased from their highest levels in years. Bond prices, which move inversely to yields, rallied after the US Treasury Department said it would increase buybacks of long-dated government debt "by at least double" for securities from the 10-year to 30-year sector.
The 10-year yield (^TNX) fell by 5 basis points to 4.65%, while the 30-year yield (^TYX) declined by 9 basis points to 5.19% after hitting its highest level since 2007 earlier this week.

Freight broker insurance is in a frenzy, and premium hikes are getting ugly. Thom Albrecht helps break down how the CH Robinson verdict, underwriting pullback and cargo theft are driving double-digit to triple-digit cost increases for brokers. He also explains what's changing in excess liability, why some underwriters are exiting the market, and what carriers and brokers should watch into peak season. If you move freight, this is a real cost story—not noise.
Freight broker insurance has entered a full-blown pricing crisis, with excess liability coverage costs rising 50% to triple digits and even primary coverage climbing sharply in the double digits — all since a pair of legal shocks hit the market this spring. The turmoil is forcing brokers to rethink coverage limits, vendor technology relationships, and renewal strategies ahead of what ***** ysts expect will be a prolonged inflationary environment.
The disruption unfolded in three phases, according to Thom Albrecht, who discussed the market dynamics during this SONAR Market Update. The first was "total chaos" following the Montgomery Supreme Court decision on May 14, which exposed brokers to motor-carrier-style liability. A brief calm in June ended abruptly on July 23, when the C.H. Robinson verdict — a $135 million judgment — rattled underwriters again. "We've seen two underwriters exit the market, basically backing the paper over in London," Albrecht said. "So there's gonna be fewer options, a very inflationary environment, and there's gonna be more questions that are asked of freight brokers than ever before as they go through their renewals."
On primary coverage — the first $5 million of freight broker auto liability, or FBAL — Albrecht said increases are running in the "middle" double digits, well above 10% but short of 90%. For excess or surplus coverage above $5 million, the picture is far worse. Smaller brokers with gross revenues of $30 million to $40 million that were paying roughly $10,000 a year for coverage could now face bills of $30,000 to $40,000. Larger brokers seeking excess capacity above $5 million are confronting 50% to 60% increases at the low end and triple-digit hikes at the top.
"The word to use is it's a total frenzy right now," Albrecht said, describing the post-verdict insurance environment for freight brokers.

The U.S. Treasury said on Aug. 19 that it will double the amount of longer-term government bonds it buys back, from $2 billion to at least $4 billion per operation starting Sept. 9.
The move can help stabilize the bond market, push yields lower and ease some borrowing costs across the economy, including rates tied to mortgages and other loans.
Related: Mysterious trader buys millions ahead of Trump's 2:30 PM meeting
The key point is that this is not new stimulus or debt cancellation. It is a market-support measure designed to improve liquidity and reduce stress in longer-dated Treasurys.
Long-dated Treasurys are U.S. government bonds that mature 10-30 years from now. The Treasury said it is increasing buybacks to provide "greater liquidity support" in that part of the market, with the move coming a day after a sharp bond selloff pushed the 30-year yield to its highest level since 2007.

September WTI crude oil (CLU26) closed up +0.89 (+1.05%) on Wednesday, and September RBOB gasoline (RBU26) closed down -0.0466 (-1.41%).
Crude oil and gasoline prices settled mixed on Wednesday, with crude oil posting a 4-week high. Wednesday's sharp decline in the dollar index ($DXY) to a 2.5-month low was bullish for energy prices. Also, the lack of a clear path to a resolution in the Middle East is keeping the Strait of Hormuz closed and limiting crude supplies from the Middle East, keeping upward pressure on oil prices. Crude prices fell from their best level and gasoline prices turned negative on Wednesday after weekly EIA crude inventories rose more than expected and gasoline supplies unexpectedly rose.

VivoPower PLC (NASDAQ:VIVO, FRA:51J) has fully retired the $28.8 million in shareholder debt it owed to AWN Holdings, eliminating the last of its principal obligation to the entity and sharpening its credit profile ahead of a planned AI data center buildout in Norway, according to a new ****** yst note from ****** le Capital Markets.

The debt retirement follows a $50 million PIPE priced at $7.50 per share on July 29, led by Blue Sky Capital alongside Nordic, EU and GCC institutional and family-office investors. Proceeds from the raise are earmarked for the Mo i Rana project and further debt reduction.
VivoPower's board has also approved separating the company's 2.2GW non-Nordic portfolio, spanning the UAE, Oman, Saudi Arabia, Malaysia and the Philippines, into an independently listed and capitalized platform on the London Stock Exchange and Abu Dhabi Securities Exchange. ****** le said the restructuring moves the portfolio's capital expenditure off VivoPower's balance sheet while the company retains de facto control, leaving a Nordic-focused AI infrastructure business.

After seeing Fernando Mendoza in preseason action, one former NFL player has made a bold comparison between the Raiders quarterback and an NFL icon.
The ex-Indiana star was not flawless in the Raiders' first two preseason games, but he did enough to remind Kurt Benkert of Philip Rivers.
Mendoza started the second preseason game against the Houston Texans on Thursday. Playing the entire first half against a stingy Texans defense, Mendoza completed 8 of 15 passes for 86 yards and threw a costly pick-six early on, missing a linebacker lurking underneath.
He settled down after a pep talk from Maxx Crosby, moving the offense on a couple of drives before halftime, when Las Vegas trailed 20-3. It wasn't nearly as sharp as his first preseason outing against Arizona, where he went 10-of-16 for 97 yards and a touchdown.
Rough patches aside, Benkert clearly likes what he sees from the No. 1 overall pick, enough to make a lofty comparison: "Mendoza has some Philip Rivers in his throwing motion."

The numbers have reached a scale that markets can no longer ignore. The U.S. fiscal deficit jumped to $432 billion in July alone, the biggest monthly shortfall since early 2021, pushing the year-to-date gap to nearly $1.8 trillion, with the full-year deficit expected to approach $2 trillion. The national debt is nearing the $40 trillion milestone, and the cost of financing it has ballooned to roughly $1.2 trillion so far this year, on pace for about $1.37 trillion for the full fiscal year.
The result has been a sharp move higher in long-term Treasury yields. The 30-year bond hit 5.33% in mid-August — its highest level in 19 years — while the 10-year note pushed toward 4.75%, a 20-month high before the Treasury stepped in this week to announce increased buying of longer dated bonds. Bond strategists point to a combination of forces for the recent high: mounting deficit concerns, inflation still stuck above the Fed's 2% target, and a wave of corporate debt issuance competing with Treasurys for investor cash. Some are calling it the return of the "bond vigilantes" — investors demanding higher yields to keep funding a government that keeps borrowing more.
Because bond prices move opposite to yields, when yields rise, existing bonds — which pay lower fixed rates — become less valuable, so their prices fall. And the longer a bond's maturity (its duration), the more its price drops for a given rise in yields. A 25 basis point rise in long-term yields can translate to roughly a 4% price loss in a long-duration bond fund.
That's why the debt story is fundamentally an ETF story. The funds holding long-dated Treasurys were absorbing the full force of the yield spike, while short-duration and alternative funds are becoming the market's refuge. While yields have since retreated post-Treasury announcement and there is a potential for a surge in buying 20+ year bond ETFs, the longer term impact to long-dated bonds remains to seen.
TLT is ground zero for the debt-and-yields story. As the most popular long-duration Treasury ETF, it holds bonds with 20+ years to maturity — exactly the part of the curve recently hammered as the 30-year yield hit multi-decade highs. TLT has slumped into a correction and touched a 22-year low in August, and investors have pulled more than $4.4 billion out of the fund this year. Strikingly, even a near-5% yield wasn't enough to stem the slide: the price losses from rising rates have overwhelmed the income the fund pays. TLT is the clearest example of how duration risk works against investors when the government's borrowing costs climb.

Half of Americans say President Trump's mass deportation campaign is too aggressive, according to a new poll released Wednesday, as Republicans look to regain voters' confidence on immigration less than 90 days away from the midterm election.
Nearly a quarter of voters who backed Trump in the 2024 presidential election also said his immigration enforcement approach is too aggressive, according to the Politico poll, which was conducted with Public First. It found that 50 percent of Americans overall said the administration's immigration agenda has gone too far.
While the administration has made some changes to its enforcement strategy, the polling has remained largely unchanged since earlier surveys in January and April — amid the height of the immigration crackdown in Minnesota, where federal agents shot and killed two U.S. citizens.
"Voters really did want border security, but they did not want to see abuelita taken away because she's been here for 40 years but without documentation," Arizona-based GOP strategist Barrett Marson told Politico.
The divide was sharper among Trump's supporters. Thirty-one percent of Trump voters who did not identify with the MAGA movement said his immigration agenda was too aggressive, compared with 15 percent of self-identified MAGA voters.

Tesla (TSLA) is a global leader in electric vehicles, energy storage, and artificial intelligence, headquartered in Austin, Texas. Led by CEO Elon Musk, Tesla designs and manufactures EVs, energy storage systems, and solar products while aggressively expanding into autonomous driving, robotics, and AI infrastructure through its Full Self-Driving (FSD) software, Robotaxi network, and Optimus humanoid robot program. The company operates through two primary segments: Automotive, and Energy Generation and Storage. As Tesla transitions from a pure-play automaker into a broader AI and robotics powerhouse, it continues to invest heavily in manufacturing capacity, battery technology, and next-generation autonomous systems worldwide.
Tesla's stock has struggled in 2026, trading near the bottom of its 52-week range and below its 200-day moving average. Shares recently closed around $336.87, down sharply from a 52-week high of $498.83 set in June, though still above the 52-week low of $297.38 touched in late July. The stock has been pressured by margin compression, a negative free cash flow quarter, and investor anxiety over Tesla's massive AI and robotics capital spending, even as anticipation builds around the upcoming public Cybercab robotaxi launch in Austin and continued progress on Optimus humanoid robot production.

Wall Street has spent the last week absorbing Nvidia's (NVDA) plan to arrange half a trillion dollars of other people's money, and the sharpest objection came from someone who was explicitly trying to argue the other side. Asked on the All-In podcast published Aug. 14 where the arrangement could break, David Sacks, while still an overall bull on AI and similar, is acutely aware of the risks of the massive, multi-trillion-dollar AI buildout, saying, "The biggest risk to me is not on the demand side," he said. "The biggest risk is that you get a glut of compute and you get an overbuild. And in the same way that we had dark fiber after the dotcom crash, if you had dark GPUs, that'd be a disaster for everyone."
On Aug. 10, Nvidia said it had signed memorandums of understanding with Apollo (APO), BlackRock (BLK), Blackstone (BX), Brookfield (BN), Goldman Sachs (GS), and KKR (KKR) to establish independent compute financing platforms to "mobilize over $500 billion of third-party capital for the buildout of AI infrastructure over time." The release adds that the partnerships "remain subject to execution of the final agreements." Meaning, that figure is an aspiration, not raised money, not committed money, and not Nvidia revenue. Several outlets blurred the distinction.

No fewer than five new signings made their competitive debuts for the Black and Yellows in the starting lineup: Jacqueline Meißner and Lara Schmidt bolstered the defense, Ricarda Walkling played in central midfield, while Ramona Maier and captain Alexandra Popp featured on the attack. Head coach Markus Högner went all out on offense with the forward quartet of Maier, Popp, Schumacher, and Enderle – together, they had scored 20 goals in the six preseason matches.
Amid the exuberant atmosphere at Rote Erde Stadium, the Borussia women dominated the match from the start. The team created its first dangerous scoring chance in the fifth minute after a cross to Jacqueline Meißner. The low cross found Ramona Maier, whose low shot was cleared for a corner by the Bielefeld goalkeeper. In the minutes that followed, the BVB Women repeatedly combined down the right flank to penetrate the Bielefeld penalty area – Arminia goalkeeper Johanna Wende was also able to parry two more shots by Maier (10th, 20th).
The match turned into a test of patience for the BVB Women; the visitors from Bielefeld retreated deeper and deeper in front of their own goal as the half progressed. Alex Popp covered the entire width of the field, often dropping deeper during build-up play to distribute the ball in the center. The captain was rewarded for her efforts in the 38th minute when she powered a cross from Enderle into the Bielefeld goal with a header to give her team a 1–0 halftime lead.
The Borussia women continued to focus on counter-pressing in the second half, immediately regaining possession and launching a focused build-up. The BVB Women created their first offensive opportunities of the second half through a low free kick by Schumacher (51st') and a shot by Sara Ito following a corner (52nd). In the 60th minute, the Borussia women had their next shot on goal when Alex Popp broke through, but the visitors' in-form goalkeeper deflected the ball around the post. At the other end, the alert Jacqueline Meißner successfully tackled one of Bielefeld's few forays forward (71st minute).
The closing stages briefly brought some frantic action to a match in which the BVB Women, despite their narrow lead, kept pushing forward relentlessly. Relief came in the 82nd minute: BVB's captain once again converted a sharply taken corner kick by Schumacher. Alex Popp rose highest at the near post and headed the ball into the near corner to make it 2–0. The much-celebrated finishing touch came from the two substitutes, Steenwijk and Leubner, who had only just come on: Ronja Leubner confidently finished off a through ball played with the outside of the foot by Jenske Steenwijk to seal the 3–0 final score.

FINX sits down 12% year to date, and Upstart's 0.6% fund weighting means even an 8% single-day surge barely registers at the portfolio level.

Fintech names are rebounding at midday Wednesday. SoFi Technologies (NASDAQ:SOFI) stock is up 6% to $18.66, Upstart Holdings (NASDAQ:UPST) stock is up 8% to $31.58, and Affirm Holdings (NASDAQ:AFRM) stock is up 7% to $78.55. The move follows a sharp retreat in long-end Treasury yields.
The Treasury Department stated it would increase buybacks of long-dated government debt "by at least double" for securities from the 10-year to 30-year sector. The 10-year Treasury yield fell 5 basis points to 4.65%, and the 30-year yield declined 8 basis points to 5.2% after hitting its highest level since 2007 earlier this week.
