A one-year contract extension for Arizona State women's basketball coach Molly Miller is in the works.
Axios first reported on the item, which will go before the Board of Regents later this month.
The deal would extend her contract through the 2030-31 season and would increase her base salary to $850,000 on May 1, 2027. She would also receive subsequent raises up to $1 million on May 1, 2030.
Miller led ASU to a 24-11 record and an NCAA tournament appearance in her first season.
The Sun Devils hadn't won more than 20 games since the 2019-20 season, when the pandemic canceled ASU's likely NCAA Tournament bid.

Tim Curry, the oddball English actor who gravitated toward playing kooky personalities like the extravagant Dr. Frank-N-Furter in the cult film "The Rocky Horror Picture Show" and devilish villains like Pennywise the Clown in "It" and Mr. Hector in "Home Alone 2: Lost in New York," has died. He was 80.
Curry died peacefully at his Toluca Lake home on Wednesday, his longtime manager and friend Marcia Hurwitz confirmed. No cause of death was disclosed. Curry suffered a paralyzing stroke in 2012 that put him in a wheelchair, from which he said last year, "I've been recovering for quite a long time."
Celebrated for his versatility, cartoonish expressions and flamboyant style — all paired with a distinctly wry sense of humor — Curry soared to fame for his portrayal of the androgynous mad-scientist Dr. Frank-N-Furter in the midnight movie "The Rocky Horror Picture Show."
Curry originated Dr. Frank-N-Furter in the London stage musical "The Rocky Horror Picture Show" in 1973. He then starred in the role in the American premiere of the production in Los Angeles in 1974 and later on Broadway in 1975, before the movie was released later that year.

Jennifer Garner opened up about how a career rejection led her to Alias. The 54-year-old, best known for playing Sydney Bristow in the action-thriller series, once auditioned for The West Wing but was turned down.
Garner appeared on Aspire With Emma Grede on August 25. During the interview, she opened up about nearly landing a role on The West Wing but lost the part. She said, "I always think back to this audition for The West Wing. It was for a new role, and God, I wanted it so badly. And I got down, and I tested for it. When I didn't get it, I had to go to the desert. It was my first time in Palm Springs by myself, and I just sat there for a couple of days."
Garner also reflected on her career after separating from Ben Affleck in 2015. She described, "I panicked when I was first out of my marriage and realized I had taken such a step back in my work, and suddenly I realized, like, 'I don't know how long I'll be able to work.'" She admitted that she became concerned about her financial future after stepping back from acting. She said she needed to find work that allowed her to support her children.
Although losing the role was difficult, Garner's next big break came just two weeks later. She was offered Alias. J.J. Abrams created the ABC series, which ran for five seasons between 2001 and 2006. The actress starred alongside Ron Rifkin, Victor Garber, Michael Vartan, Bradley Cooper, Merrin Dungey, Carl Lumbly, Kevin Weisman, and Greg Grunberg. Her performance earned Garner a 2002 Golden Globe win and four Emmy nominations. As Alias grew in popularity, Garner landed major film roles. She appeared in Daredevil and Elektra before starring in 13 Going on 30.

Juventus are continuing to trim fat, but it's still not enough to finally table their offer for Frank Kessié, and Roma have entered the race, joining Al-Ittihad and other Saudi sides that would cover him in gold to keep him in their league, La Gazzetta dello Sport informs.
After releasing Arthur Melo, the Bianconeri will bid farewell to Fabio Miretti. He'll move to Besiktas, like Dusan Vlahovic, on a loan with a conditional obligation to buy. The Old Lady also completed Michele Di Gregorio's exit and Kamil Grabara's arrival, with a temporary formula with a €12M acquisition clause. Instead, Mattia Perin transferred to Palermo on a €500k move.
On the other hand, the recent departures don't suffice yet for Juventus to really step up their Kessié pursuit. They have to find a solution for the burdensome Teun Koopmeiners, Jonathan David, and Nicolas Gonzalez. Juan Cabal and Arkadiusz Milik are also on the chopping block.
In the meantime, Roma have shown some interest in the Ivorian powerhouse, who broke out under Gian Piero Gasperini at Atalanta. They have skirted the Manchester United threat for Manu Koné, as the Red Devils completed their midfield with Carlos Baleba. Other sides could be keen on him, but Neil El Aynaoui is a more precarious spot now.
They shouldn't waste any more time and should sign him in after managing to have a hold on him for so long, and worry about the departures later. Koopmeiners is the main Gordian knot, but there may also be issues with his personal terms. It's been a while since the capital club signed a veteran with bloated wages, even though Gasperini surely wouldn't mind.

WEST LONG BRANCH -- There was theme among the songs that blared through the speakers at Kessler Stadium as Monmouth football practice got started Tuesday morning: Tennessee.
The Osborne Brothers' classic rendition of Rocky Top was the soundtrack for the opening stretches. It's a reminder that this is no longer training camp, it's game week. There are just a few days until No. 23 Monmouth will travel to Cookeville to take on No. 15 Tennessee Tech in a rare season-opening matchup of top 25 teams in the FCS. And the Hawks didn't waste anytime beginning to attack that challenge, going straight from stretch lines to 11-on-11 reps of hurry-up offense.
"It's a group that's got something to prove," Monmouth head coach Jeff Gallo said. "This team has something to prove as a collective unit. It's got talent, it's got ability, but it's about our ability every day to keep elevating the standard of our program and push that championship level on a daily basis."
No. 23 Monmouth football vs. No. 15 Tennessee Tech in Week 0: preview
The Hawks' first matchup is a chance to prove that they are at that championship level—or that more work is needed to reach it. Monmouth is on the national radar once again with a preseason top 25 ranking, but that could quickly slip away with a loss, or surge dramatically with a win.

Julian Alvarez is headline news again on Wednesday as he's not training with Atletico Madrid as Diego Simeone's side prepare to face Sevilla in La Liga.
The forward's absence will likely get the rumor mill all excited but the explanation given is that he's simply not feeling well and has a stomach upset.
Reporter Ruben Uria posted on X: "We have been able to confirm that the Argentine forward will not participate today in the Atlético de Madrid training session, scheduled for this morning. The Argentine will not train today with the team. Julián had a bad night and is suffering from an upset stomach."
Alvarez is undoubtedly going through a difficult time right now. He was whistled by Atletico fans at the weekend against Villarreal after asking for a transfer at the World Cup.
Atletico Madrid refuse to sell the forward, despite his desire to move on, but Barcelona continue to monitor the situation in case Los Colchoneros decide to change their stance before the window closes next week.

The Chicago Bears have been involved in trade discussions surrounding defensive tackle, NFL insider Jordan Schultz reported on Tuesday. Dexter, who turns 25 in October, is currently in the final year of his rookie contract.
Schultz previously reported in February that teams were calling on Dexter's availability around the time of the 2026 NFL Scouting Combine. Now, Schultz is claiming that there are "multiple scenarios where a deal could get done".
Dexter was a second-round pick in the 2023 NFL Draft coming out of Florida. He is coming off a 2025 campaign in which he tallied 44 tackles, 6.0 tackles for loss, and a career-high 6.0 sacks. He placed No. 32 among 107 qualified defensive tackles in PFN DT Impact Scoring, a ranking which indicates he's an average starting defensive tackle. That said, his pass-rushing production and youth gives him considerable upside on the open market.
Should the Bears actually trade Dexter, they would free up over $1.6 million in 2026 cap **** e. The reason to trade Dexter wouldn't be highlighted by the immediate cap relief, but rather, the draft capital Chicago could obtain in a deal. If the team realizes they likely won't extend him at the price he and his agency are asking for, it could make sense in the long run to get a draft pick for him, rather than let him walk in free agency for nothing.
Of course, the Bears' defensive line has been the subject of much discussion leading up to the 2026-27 NFL season. Their four-man front consistently struggled to generate pressure in the pass rush and had issues in run support, and they didn't do much to address the need this offseason. Trading Dexter would certainly weaken their interior defensive line and thrust the likes of Neville Gallimore, Kentavius Street, and sixth-round pick Jordan van den Berg into bigger roles alongside Grady Jarrett, who is coming off a disappointing 2025 season.

Manchester United have completed the signing of midfielder Carlos Baleba from Brighton for a fee up to $95 million, to complete the Red Devils' expensive midfielder makeover during the transfer window.
The 22-year-old Cameroon international is the final piece of the puzzle for Michael Carrick's side after also adding Youri Tielemans and Andrey Santos ($111 million combined) this summer. Put the new-boy trio alongside Bruno Fernandes and Man United's midfield has gone from definite weakness to potential strength, at least one paper.
Fernandes is fresh off breaking the Premier League's single-season ***** ist record with 21 last campaign as Man United finished 3rd after two terribly disappointing seasons down in 8th and 15th. The rest of the midfield was made up of Casemiro (33 PL starts), Kobbie Mainoo (16 starts) and a rotating carousel of Mason Mount (12) and Manuel Ugarte (8).
Casemiro ended up scoring nine goals last season (mostly from set pieces), but him and Ugarte were tasked with providing the defensive cover that gave Fernandes the freedom to win games in the final third. It worked well enough to get back in the UEFA Champions League, but Casemiro's age (34, now at Inter Miami) and Ugarte's lack of mobility (prior to tearing his ACL at the World Cup), and both player's lack of forward passing, meant they were a band-aid solution that needed ripping off sooner rather than later.
That's because this season, Man United have to win more games in which they dominate possession. They proved they can be a devastating attacking team with Fernandes feeding Bryan Mbeumo, Matheus Cunha, Benjamin Sesko and Amad Diallo, but they struggled terribly against opponents that defended deeper and flat out refused to give them ***** e in behind, instead setting up their own counter-attacks and — you guessed it — taking advantage of Man United's much slower defensive midfielders and defenders.

Manchester United have completed the signing of Brighton midfielder Carlos Baleba in a deal worth up to £70 million ($95 million).
After securing a Champions League return with last season's third-place finish, there has been a focus on bolstering Michael Carrick's midfield heading into the new Premier League campaign.
United saw influential Casemiro depart and Manuel Ugarte sustain a serious knee injury during a summer in which Andrey Santos and Youri Tielemans arrived from Chelsea and Aston Villa respectively.
Baleba becomes the third Premier League player to bolster the Red Devils' midfield, signing a five-year-deal with the option to extend for a further 12 months after agreeing a £65 million deal plus £5 million in add-ons and a sell-on with Brighton.
"It is an incredible feeling to join the club of my dreams. Playing at Old Trafford is always special but the opportunity to do so as a Manchester United player will be a real honour," the Cameroon international said.

Duke is turning to San Jose State graduate transfer Walker Eget as its starting quarterback.
The Blue Devils announced Eget had won the starting job on Tuesday, coming with less than two weeks until the Sept. 5 opener against Tulane at home. He won a position battle that had redshirt freshman Dan Mahan mentioned as a top contender going into preseason camp.
"Both guys have a different set of skillsets that we can frame our offense around," coach Manny Diaz told reporters in a Zoom call Tuesday morning. "But when it all came down to it, it was just about consistency, which is normally just what you expect from an older guy of keeping the same level day after day."
Eget had spent five seasons and made 18 starts at San Jose State. He threw for 3,051 yards and 17 touchdowns in 2025 before going down with a late-season knee injury that required surgery, with his recovery adding a variable to the position battle.
"Every time that there was a benchmark of monitoring his health and his ability to take the next step, he passed it every single time," Diaz said.

Duke football has named its starting quarterback for the 2026 season.
Walker Eget was named as the Blue Devils' starter on Tuesday, Aug. 25. The sixth-year San José State transfer won the starting job over redshirt freshman Dan Mahan.
ESPN's Pete Thamel was first to report the news, with a source confirming it to the Fayetteville Observer.
Eget brings two years of starting experience after five seasons at San José State. The 6-foot-3, 235-pound signal-caller out of Santa Clarita, California, threw for 5,563 yards and 30 touchdowns in 18 starts. He was named as one of six ACC quarterbacks to the 2026 Manning Award Preseason Watch List on Monday, Aug. 24.
Eget tore his ACL during the 2024 season and underwent surgery following the 2025 campaign. He missed Duke's spring practices while recovering and was cleared in time for fall camp.

Not for the first time in recent years, Gary Neville has predicted Liverpool to finish outside the top four of the Premier League this season.
Having ended a harrowing 2025/26 campaign in fifth place and just about salvaging Champions League qualification, the Reds will be striving for a big improvement this time around, but a 2-2 draw at Newcastle on Sunday indicated that they remain unconvincing.
In contrast to last summer, incoming transfer activity has been thin on the ground this year, although reports from France over the past 24 hours suggest that a deal for Bradley Barcola could be imminent.
Neville and Jamie Carragher were tasked with giving their predictions for the Premier League season on Sky Sports' Monday Night Football, and while the latter backed Liverpool to finish fourth, the former believes we'll end up one position lower.
The 51-year-old said: "I can't separate Man United and Liverpool in fourth place. I genuinely have no idea. I think City are in a better position than United. At the moment, I'm not convinced by United or Liverpool, but I do think they'll finish fourth and fifth [respectively]."

Manchester United are 'unlikely' to make more signings before the transfer window deadline next week.
Michael Carrick's side have been active in the summer transfer window and are nearing a £65m deal to sign Carlos Baleba from Brighton, who will become the club's fourth senior signing of the summer.
Manchester United have rebuilt their midfield options after acquiring Andrey Santos and Youri Tielemans, while veteran goalkeeper Karl Darlow has arrived as back-up to Senne Lammens.
The Red Devils have been linked with adding another forward and a left-back, but Sky Sports reports that further business is 'unlikely'.

JJ Gabriel captivated viewers with an astonishing goal on his official Manchester United U21 debut.
Unlike the senior side that suffered a shocking 0-2 defeat in Hull on the opening day of the season, the young Red Devils started their Premier League 2 campaign on an enchanting note, pummelling Ipswich Town U21 by five unanswered goals at the Progress United Stadium.
The 15-year-old wonderkid has been promoted to the U21 side following a majestic campaign with Man Utd 18.
Gabriel, who has been handed the number 77 in Man Utd's official senior squad, already featured in a friendly test for Michael Carrick's first team, coming in as a substitute against Atletico Madrid.
While any observers are backing him to make his competitive senior debut at some point during the season, the teenager will predominantly feature for Adam Lawrence's U21 side.
