MOSCOW/WASHINGTON, Aug 26 (Reuters) - U.S. CIA Director John Ratcliffe spoke with Russian intelligence officials during a visit to Moscow but did not meet President Vladimir Putin, the Kremlin said on Wednesday of a trip that U.S. President Donald Trump described as "semi-routine."
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters Putin had been briefed on the outcome of Tuesday's visit, which came as the war in Ukraine drags on and as efforts to reach a lasting peace between the United States and Iran have stalled.
Peskov declined to say what had been discussed or to provide any further details.
"All I can tell you is that there have been contacts via the security services. I can tell you that there have been no meetings with the Russian president. Naturally, President Putin is kept informed of everything without delay," said Peskov.

Classification cutoffs for several sports were updated by the Illinois High School ***** ociation board of directors at its meeting this month. Changes take effect for the 2027-28 school year.
The IHSA's newly revised policy gives schools plenty of notice after moving to annual classification cycles and fixed enrollment cutoffs that began in 2025-26.
"When revamping the Classification Policy in 2024, one of our goals was to provide member schools with one year notice in advance of any class cutoff changes to help them prepare accordingly," IHSA executive director Craig Anderson said in a release. "All the changes approved today will go into effect during the 2027-28 school year."
The board also changed its policy to be set at the nearest 25 students as opposed to only the nearest 50 or 100 due to declining enrollment membership.
"The overall enrollment within our membership is currently declining," Anderson said in a release, "so it makes sense to lower some of these cutoffs to keep in line with that trend. The data shows us that the majority of schools who are moving up in classification were competing in that same class just a year or two ago."

According to Hau, the 17-year-old has successfully completed his medical examination and signed his contract with the Belgian club, bringing an end to the latest chapter of his development at Bayern Munich. It should be noted that Bayern Munich has not formally announced the move as of yet. If the report is on-point, it would not be shocking to be Bayern Munich make the announcement on Thursday.
The deal will see Bayern Munich receive a guaranteed €5 million transfer fee, with the potential for the final amount to increase through bonus payments. While Bayern Munich will not have a buy-back option included in the agreement, the club has negotiated a percentage of any future resale involving Mike.

I have a confession to make. This whole season, I have been waiting for the other proverbial shoe to drop for Eduardo Rodriguez. I had a difficult time believing the same pitcher who had posted consecutive seasons with ERAs north of five could somehow transform himself into a legitimate Cy Young candidate. There were some legitimate reasons for that doubt too between his whiff percentage, strikeout rate, and chase rate all leave something to be desired – to say nothing of expected stats that paint an even worse picture. But at some point, you have to throw out all the other pieces of evidence and recognize that however he's doing it, Rodriguez is putting together one of the best pitching seasons in franchise history. And at a time in the season where every win is crucial, he delivered once more with an absolute gem against the Chicago Cubs on Wednesday afternoon. In seven innings of scoreless work, Rodriguez racked up nine strikeouts and allowed just five baserunners all game, inducing a whopping 18 swings and misses along the way.
It was a fairly dominant performance for the veteran lefty, but it wasn't all smooth sailing. In the visiting half of the sixth, Pete Crow-Armstrong, who was mostly contained in the series, stroked a leadoff double down the line and then moved over to third on Seiya Suzuki's groundout. After a shallow flyout from Alex Bregman wasn't deep enough for PCA to score, he decided to take matters into his own hands and bluffed a straight steal of home by sprinting halfway down the third base line. That move unsettled Rodriguez enough for him to shuffle off the pitching rubber before delivering to James McCann behind the plate. The entire Cubs dugout clamored for a balk call, but after a quick umpire consultation, it was declared not a balk – much to PCA's chagrin as he charged directly at the third base umpire and had to be held back by his coaches. After a few replays of the incident, I do think (as does Bob Brenly) that it probably was a balk. E-Rod clearly takes his left foot off the rubber before coming home with the ball, which would be very deceiving to a baserunner and which has always been the intent behind the balk rule. The play also highlighted the fact that every play should be reviewable as other angles show enough that the Cubs at least had an argument and when the margin is so thin, the call should be correct. It's worth watching the whole sequence for yourself to see where you fall on the decision:

The 2026 college football season kicks off on Saturday. And while there are lots of notable developments on the field this time of year, there are plenty off of the field as well.
One of those came on Wednesday, when the Big Ten announced a contract extension for commissioner Tony Petitti. The extension, which runs through 2033, was unanimously approved by the league's 18 university presidents and chancellors.
"Tony has provided outstanding vision for the Conference through extremely turbulent times," COP/C Chair and President of Indiana University Pamela Whitten said in a statement. SCHMID Group N.V. (NASDAQ:SHMD) reported a sharp increase in first-half revenue for 2026, but lowered its full-year profitability guidance after weaker-than-anticipated margins and a greater contribution from lower-margin business in China.
Revenue reached €46.0 million for the first six months of the year, up substantially from €16.9 million in the corresponding period of 2025. China accounted for more than half of the group's first-half sales.

Aug. 26—GRAND FORKS — A year ago, all six home UND football games exceeded 10,000 fans for the first time.
UND officials expect to continue that trend to kick off the 2026 season, although the school will still rely on a walk-up turnout when the Fighting Hawks take on Long Island University at 7 p.m. Thursday in the Alerus Center.
As of late last week, UND was sitting at roughly 3 percent attrition for season tickets compared to 2025. Early this week, that number started to improve, according to UND deputy athletic director Erik Martinson.
UND's season ticket sales have fluctuated in recent years around approximately 5,000 to 6,000, with the North Dakota State home-road matchup often the key variable between totals.
The Bison are no longer on UND's schedule as NDSU moves into the Mountain West Conference this season.

In the end, Jonathan ***** inga was willing to take less money per year to get back on the market sooner rather than take a longer contract with more guaranteed money.
After intense recruiting from Anthony Edwards and others, ***** inga has agreed to join the Timberwolves on a two-year, $13 million contract, a story broken by Shams Charania of ESPN. ***** inga stepped into the taxpayer mid-level exception the Timberwolves still had available.
This is a recruiting coup for the Timberwolves, who put on a full-court press in the last month, Charania reported. That included Edwards and other players, as well as team president Tim Connelly, who reportedly had a four-hour meeting with him. ***** inga is expected to step into the starting lineup at the three next to LaMelo Ball, Edwards, Jaden McDaniels and Rudy Gobert.
The Lakers had been pursuing ***** inga to become a starter next to Luka Doncic and Austin Reaves, and they were trying to work out a sign-and-trade with Atlanta, but that would have required ***** inga to sign at least a three-year contract instead of the two in Minnesota. Ultragenyx Pharmaceutical Inc. The one-time gene therapy is the first approved treatment designed to address the disorder's underlying cause. The commercial question is whether a high-priced treatment for an ultra-rare population can produce meaningful revenue after diagnosis, reimbursement, and treatment-center constraints.
GSDIa prevents the liver from releasing glucose properly, leaving patients dependent on frequent raw-cornstarch doses to avoid potentially life-threatening hypoglycemia. In the Phase 3 GlucoGene trial, Genglycos reduced mean daily cornstarch intake by 41% at Week 48, compared with 10% for placebo, while maintaining glucose control. For Ultragenyx Pharmaceutical Inc. Longer-term data also support the treatment's potential durability. HUGO – McAlester softball snapped its losing streak with a big 17-0 run rule win over Hugo Tuesday.
During their streak, the Lady Buffaloes (4-5) dropped games to strong teams like Byng, Tahlequah, Shawnee and Durant. But they shook off the rust Tuesday in the win over Hugo.
The McAlester bats came alive on the road, recording 16 hits and 13 RBIs. Carsyn Sutterfield went 3-for-4 and Emerson Hollis went 3-for-3 at the plate to lead the Lady Buffaloes.

Merck & Co., Inc. (NYSE:MRK) jumped 12.6% to a record $152.20 on August 19 after a pivotal melanoma trial validated intismeran autogene, the individualized mRNA cancer therapy developed with Moderna. In the 1,137-patient Phase 3 INTerpath-001 study, intismeran plus Keytruda produced statistically significant and clinically meaningful improvements in recurrence-free survival and distant-metastasis-free survival compared with Keytruda alone. No new safety concerns emerged. Investors are now asking whether intismeran can turn Keytruda from a drug approaching a patent cliff into the foundation of a personalized-cancer platform.
That distinction matters because Merck & Co., Inc. (NYSE:MRK) generated $31.68 billion from Keytruda and Keytruda Qlex in 2025, nearly half of the company's sales. In the U.S., biosimilar competition could begin after Keytruda's primary compound patent expires in December 2028, although biosimilars have already entered some smaller international markets. The wait is over. On Saturday, the Florida State Seminoles take on the New Mexico State Aggies in Doak Campbell Stadium.
In terms of FSU, they're looking to bounce back from a 5-7 season and return to a bowl game for the first time in three years. New Mexico State didn't have a good year either, with a 4-8 record.
