In late 2022, OpenAI released ChatGPT, and within months the bottom rung of the tech-industry career ladder started to disappear. Graduates who majored in computer science and other AI-exposed fields are increasingly missing out on the jobs they trained for, and a chunk of them are landing behind restaurant counters and retail registers instead, according to two Census Bureau papers.
An April 2026 Census paper tracked matched employer-employee records and found that hiring of workers ages 22 to 24 fell sharply in the industries most exposed to AI, while hiring in less-exposed industries held steady. Employment for early-career workers in the most AI-exposed fifth of industries dropped 12% over the ten quarters after ChatGPT's release. Lee Tucker, one of the coauthors of the paper, said "the decline in hires is the primary cause" of that rate of unemployment, not people losing jobs they already had.
That mattered most for one type of graduate. The most AI-exposed industries, Tucker found, cluster heavily around software and information-technology work, which are the very fields computer science and other highly AI-exposed majors are built to feed into.
A second paper from last week, also coauthored by Tucker, follows the graduates of the most AI-exposed decile of college majors. Their odds of holding a job one quarter after graduation fell by five percentage points, and full-quarter initial earnings dropped 13% following ChatGPT's release. A 13% earnings decline is roughly the size economists would expect from graduating into a severe recession—except there wasn't one, since the rest of the labor market held up fine.
Young grads still need to work and still have jobs, even if they've received highly exposed degrees. So the decline in earnings is less about a lack of employment and more about pursuing lower-wage occupations to make ends meet.

Oscar Health (OSCR) raised its full-year earnings outlook while lowering its expected medical costs to cover benefits for its nearly 3 million Affordable Care Act exchange members. OSCR stock climbed in early Wednesday stock market action ahead of its 9 a.m. ET investor conference.
Oscar, which made an aggressive play to gain ACA market share, has seen enrollment surge 47% from a year ago as of June 30, even as overall enrollment has plunged due to the expiration of enhanced premium subsidies. As of now, it looks like the bet is paying off in a big way, with shares up 126% this year through Tuesday. But it's still a bit early to know, because Oscar's earnings depend not only on its own members' costs, but also those of other ACA insurers.
The ACA's No. 2 insurer by membership behind Centene (CNC) said that it now expects its medical loss ratio, or benefit costs as a share of premiums, to be in the 81% to 82% range, down from the prior outlook of 81.5% to 82.5%.
Oscar boosted its outlook for earnings from operations by $100 million at both ends to a range of $600 million to $800 million. The unchanged revenue outlook, between $18.7 billion and $19 billion, implies that no additional customer churn is expected.
Here is what investors should keep in mind. Compared to the overall ACA risk pool, Oscar's enrollment is relatively young, healthy and more likely to sign up for very-high-deductible bronze plans. Yet based on its relatively healthy risk pool, Oscar expects about 20% of its premiums will be paid out via risk adjustment to other carriers under ACA rules. That means results in the second half of this year depend to a large degree on the level of healthcare utilization by non-Oscar members. As of now, it's a bit early to tell, since healthcare spending tends to rise as the year progresses and insured members exhaust their deductibles.

It was a night of devastation in Chatsworth that began with a deadly Metro bus collision and ended with the fiery crash of an NBC4 helicopter covering the news that left two journalists and, on the ground, a bystander dead.
Tuesday's scene was a mixture of confusion and chaos, with first responders fanned out across two catastrophes and television news teams desperately trying to find out whether their journalists were safe. The crashes claimed the lives of five people and left others with various degrees of injury.

NTSB Investigator Fabian Salazar said officials are searching through the wreckage, combing through maintenance logbooks, security footage, weather reports and witness interviews, and reviewing the pilot's training to figure out what went wrong.
But the most critical information so far has been audio captured from the helicopter during a live broadcast of reporter Eliana Moreno and pilot George Marciniw's final moments before it crashed.

The John Harbaugh era got off to a rousing start last night with the New York Giants defeating the division rival Dallas Cowboys 28-20 at a raucous MetLife Stadium. (When was the last time "raucous" and "MetLife" appeared in the same sentence about a Giants game?) Let's see what the **** ysts at Pro Football Focus thought of the individual player performances.
Focusing first on the passing, Jaxson Dart's 23 of 29, 230-yard, 3 TD, 0 INT performance was given a grade of…65.8, smack in the middle of their "average" range. I'm sure fans will take Dart's highly efficient game, as evidenced by his excellent 134.2 NFL passer rating last night, every week. PFF, though, grades on degree of difficulty and taking care of the ball. Dart didn't have any interceptions, but in PFF's eyes he had two turnover-worthy plays, which they see as being just as bad. He also did not have any "big-time," throws, i.e., **** placed accurately into tight windows and especially those that go deep downfield for explosive plays. Dart only threw three **** beyond 20 yards and only completed one. To quote Seinfeld, "Not that there's anything wrong with that," but that's what PFF values. Dart did what he had to do to win the game. In the long run, he'll have to show that he can hurt opposing defenses deep on a consistent basis, but for one game the short-range passing game was just fine.
Let's look at the effect of pressure:
Dart was an amazing 19 of 22 when kept clean, including all three of his TD passes. When pressured he was 4 of 7 for 57 yards, but both of his TWPs came under pressure.

Vale S.A. (NYSE:VALE) is considering making its debut in China's domestic bond market as soon as this year, with CFO Marcelo Bacci saying the company is preparing for a potential Panda bond issuance. The move would be strategically significant because China accounts for roughly half of Vale's revenue, making renminbi financing a natural extension of its relationship with its largest market. Bloomberg reported that Vale is still ****** sing the market, including whether it can obtain a maturity longer than the typical two-, three-, or five-year terms available to international issuers.
The timing is also favorable for Vale because China's Panda bond market is expanding rapidly. Reuters reported that foreign issuers have increasingly turned to Asian bond markets to diversify funding sources, while Chinese yuan bond issuance has reached record levels in 2026. For Vale S.A. (NYSE:VALE), the potential transaction therefore looks less like a necessity for raising capital and more like an effort to diversify its investor base, potentially lower funding costs, and build a longer-term financing relationship with Chinese investors.
The strongest bullish argument is that Vale S.A. (NYSE:VALE) could potentially lower and diversify its cost of capital by accessing a large pool of Chinese investors at a time when renminbi funding remains relatively inexpensive. Reuters noted that Chinese onshore and offshore yuan bond markets have experienced record issuance this year, with foreign borrowers increasingly using these markets to diversify away from traditional funding currencies. If Vale can achieve competitive pricing, a Panda bond could provide an additional funding channel alongside its established dollar financing, reducing its dependence on a single market.
The move could also create a better natural match between Vale's revenues and its financing currency. Because China represents approximately half of Vale's revenue, raising at least some debt in renminbi could provide a degree of currency alignment with its Chinese business exposure. More importantly, establishing itself as a repeat issuer could strengthen Vale's relationships with Chinese banks and institutional investors, potentially giving it access to another source of capital when global dollar markets become less attractive.
There is also a broader strategic benefit. China is actively expanding the Panda bond market and encouraging international companies to use it. Official Chinese data showed that more than 160 billion yuan of Panda bonds were issued during the first half of 2026, up 69% year over year, demonstrating that the market is becoming more established and liquid. Vale entering this market could therefore position the company early in a growing financing ecosystem rather than waiting until it becomes more crowded.

Kentucky football's first loss of the season was a tale of two halves. In the first half, they controlled the ball, forced turnovers, and limited the Alabama Crimson Tide's offense. In the second half, Alabama controlled the game, and pulled away for a 45-17 win over the Wildcats.

The latest addition to the Formula 1 calendar had already sparked plenty of discussion in the paddock before the weekend. Most of the conversations centred on safety and whether the track around the IFEMA complex would actually prove to be a 'car killer', as several teams feared after the rather chaotic F3 test.
Another aspect that attracted plenty of interest was La Monumental, Turn 12 of the new circuit. It is the corner with 13.5 degrees of banking, which equates to an incline of around 24%.
This is less than the final corner at Zandvoort – the Arie Luyendyk corner has 18 degrees of banking – but despite that, Pirelli describes La Monumental as the toughest corner on the entire F1 calendar for the tyres.
"Basically the peak of the vertical energy is not higher than in other corners that we have in the calendar, like in Qatar, the banking in Zandvoort, et cetera. It's more about the time you are under load and the continuous load that you have," Pirelli's chief engineer Simone Berra explained.
"So basically instead of two or three seconds, you have 5.5 seconds under those loads. So you have double the duty cycle in that area. That is the main thing to keep in mind and what we are considering in our calculations."

ATLANTA — A flash flood warning has been issued for the area around Bobby Dodd Stadium, where No. 18 Tennessee will play Georgia Tech on Sept. 12.
The warning is in effect until 1:30 p.m. ET, but rain is the forecast throughout the afternoon and early evening. The game starts at 7 p.m. ET on ESPN.
Heavy rains have fallen throughout the morning, and the forecast calls for them to continue until close to kickoff or perhaps early into the game.
The chance of rain will decrease to 10% at kickoff with a projected temperature of 80 degrees. Skies are supposed to clear out by halftime.
That should make for more favorable conditions for fans, including those traveling from Tennessee for the road game. The nonconference game is sold out at Bobby Dodd Stadium, which has a capacity of 51,913.

Florida basketball senior guard Denzel Aberdeen is taking his case to return to the basketball court to the judicial courts.
Aberdeen has filed a temporary injunction for a fifth season of eligibility to play for the Florida Gators, according to a report from the Field of 68.
"Denzel Aberdeen, a senior at Florida, should be allowed to compete as a student-athlete under the NCAA's 5-in-5 rule," Aberdeen's attorney, Jesse Panuccio, said in a statement provided to the Field of 68. "But the NCAA has announced an unwritten exception to its rule that strips Class of 2022 students from this policy, even though they competed for years against fifth-, sixth-, and sometimes seventh-year seniors who received Covid-era eligibility waivers. The NCAA's decision violates its contractual commitment to fairness to all student-athletes, and we have sued to vindicate Aberdeen's rights and get him back on the court as he finishes his degree at UF."
As a member of the Class of 2022, Aberdeen wasn't grandfathered into the NCAA's new 5-for-5 rule, which allows for college athletes to play for five seasons within five years of eligibility.
On July 31, a Colorado court ruling by U.S. District Court judge Charlotte Sweeney (Tyson, Wisne v NCAA) granted an extra year of eligibility to Aberdeen and every athlete in the 2022 class without requiring an NCAA waiver. But on August 22, the 10th Circuit Court of Appeals granted a stay in the Wisne ruling, which now places the onus back on athletes to fight for their NCAA eligibility in state courts.

Auburn football hosts Southern Miss on Saturday for its 2026 home opener, with kickoff slated for 6:45 p.m. CT on SEC Network.
Auburn fans, young and old, will flock to the Plains to celebrate the Tigers' first home game of the season and will battle high temperatures and possibly a few raindrops. AccuWeather's Saturday forecast for Auburn calls for a high temperature of 85 degrees and a low of 71. The "realfeel" temperature will be 97, and the winds will blow south-southwest at 6 miles per hour.
Fans tailgating before the game may need to prepare to find shelter. There is a 25% chance of rain for Saturday morning, increasing to 55% in the afternoon. The rain chance should decrease by kickoff, with temperatures decreasing to a low of 73 by the end of the game.
Saturday's game will be the first home game of the season for the Auburn Tigers, and the first time Alex Golesh will lead the Tigers onto the field as its head coach. Auburn and Southern Miss have an extensive history on the gridiron that dates back to 1946, with 23 prior games. Auburn holds an 18-5 advantage over the Golden Eagles and has won four straight games in the series.

On a cloudy, seventeen-degree evening in the federal capital, 1. FC Union Berlin (0-1-1, 15th) played host to FC Schalke 04 (0-1-1, 14th) in the third matchweek of their 2026/27 Bundesliga campaigns at Stadion An der Alten Försterei.
Union Berlin, in their eighth Bundesliga season, managed to draw Eintracht Frankfurt 3-3 on the opening matchweek, but failed to land a single shot on target in an 0-4 defeat to Bayer 04 Leverkusen last weekend. As for Schalke, who return to the Bundesliga for the first time since 2022/23, they lost their opener 0-3 to FC Augsburg but managed to follow it with a scoreless draw against the reigning German champions, FC Bayern München.
This is the seventh meeting between the two sides in their histories, with the current head-to-head record an even 1-4-1. Schalke's lone win came in 2019/20, a 2-1 result at Veltins-Arena - Union's only victory was a dominant 6-1 result in the 2022/23 season, with that match also having been played in Gelsenkirchen. With the other sixteen teams yet to play their third matches, the winning side from this match would move up to seventh place in the table, and will likely be in the middle of the table by the time that all matches are complete on Sunday.
The hosts, in red, would kick off the match and go left to right in the opening term, with Schalke, in blue, going right to left when on the attack. Duane "Keffe D" Davis is pushing back hard against his murder conviction, vowing to fight the verdict in court.
In his first interview after a Las Vegas jury found him guilty of first-degree murder with use of a deadly weapon in the 1996 killing of 2Pac Shakur, Davis spoke to The Hollywood Reporter shortly after the verdict.
"Shit, I ain't worried. I'm getting out on an appeal. We already filed it before the trial even started. They violated my civil rights!" Davis said.
"I'm innocent, man. They got an innocent man sitting in jail. I've got two grandsons that are going to the pros in football," Davis continued. "They All-Americans—one of them is in high school. He has 25 scholarship offers, and the other one is in college. And when they get their millions, they're coming to get me out of here."

ESPN's "College GameDay" was back last weekend for Lane Kiffin's LSU debut, and in Week 2, it will air live from one of the most anticipated regular-season games of the 2026 season. GameDay will be at Ohio State vs. Texas in Austin, Texas.

Frangulis is a Brazilian entrepreneur who founded the company Oakberry in 2016. Although he studied law in Brazil, he never completed his degree or took the bar exam.
Oakberry is a brand that specializes in açaí products. Açaí berries are harvested in the Amazon rainforest, the majority of which is located in Frangulis' home country of Brazil. Oakberry, which sells açaí bowls, smoothies, and more, has hundreds of stores in dozens of countries.
In August 2016, right before Oakberry was launching, Frangulis was diagnosed with thyroid cancer. He had surgery to remove a four-centimeter nodule that October.

Big Tigger won't be being prosecuted on aggravated battery and third-degree child cruelty charges, ending the criminal case involving his wife, Alicia Brown.
According to court documents obtained by TMZ, the Fulton County District Attorney's Office has decided not to move forward with charges against Tigger, whose legal name is Darian Morgan.
The charges traced back to a May 9 incident at the couple's Sandy Springs home on Jett Ferry Road. According to the arrest affidavit, a dispute over text messages between Morgan and a female co-worker escalated over the course of several weeks before turning physical.
Brown alleged that Morgan tackled her to the floor during an argument and later grabbed her arms and shoved her toward an exit, causing her to stumble headfirst into an office door and suffer a deep cut above her left eye.
