ATLANTA (AP) — Georgia Tech coach Brent Key said Jaylen Mbakwe was talking and responsive after a scary collision that had him stretchered off the field in the third quarter of the Yellow Jackets' 45-24 loss to No. 18 Tennessee on Saturday night.
Mbakwe collided head-first with Jordan Walker's knee. Walker was carried off the field, unable to put any weight on his leg. Mbakwe lay on the field and appeared motionless for several minutes before giving the crowd a thumbs-up while being stretchered off.
"Everything was moving when they moved him off the field. He was talking, responsive," Key said after the game. 'Obviously, I'm not going to speak anything medically about it, because I don't know."
The defensive back was taken by ambulance to Grady Hospital, located three miles from Georgia Tech's Bobby Dodd Stadium.
"As soon as I walk out of here, that's where I'm going — to check on my guy," Key said. "But he was talking, he was moving and whatnot when they carried him off. That's all I know at this point."

Barcelona remain perfect to start the season and have won their fourth straight La Liga game to open up a three-point lead at the top of the table thanks to a dominant 5-0 win over Valencia at Mestalla on Sunday afternoon. The Blaugrana put on another attacking show and created over a dozen giant chances, and Lamine Yamal (twice), Raphinha, Fermín López and Pedri found the net to give the leaders three more points in spectacular fashion.
Barça played a fantastic opening period, establishing their dominance from the opening whistle and creating huge chances early and often against Valencia's low block.
Lamine Yamal scored a brilliant first goal and had a second disallowed for a very narrow offside, and came very close three other times. Fermín López also found the net with a powerful finish in the box, and almost scored a glorious solo goal but was denied by the keeper and the post.
The Catalans had a couple of scares at the back but Joan Garcia was up to the task with a couple of big saves. Barça were in control for the entire half, however, and dominated midfield thanks to Rodri, who was simply fantastic in the opening 45 minutes of his first start.
There was only one piece of bad news when a freak accident caused Eric Garcia to suffer a broken nose in a collision with Rodri in the box, but Barça were fully in control and had a deserved two-goal lead at the break.

PEORIA — A teenaged rider has died from injuries suffered in a crash during a heat race on the card of the 79th Caterpillar Peoria TT national championship races in Peoria in late August, according to a statement Wednesday night by American Flat Track, the sport's national sanctioning body.
The motorcycle races were Saturday, Aug. 22, at Peoria Motorcycle Race Club, and were part of a national tour operated by AFT under the American Motorcycle ******* ociation.
Bayne Nantz, a 15-year-old riding a KTM 450 SX-F for Nantz Brothers Racing and competing as an amateur, crashed in a heat race for the AFT ProSport 450 main event as part of the Peoria TT racing card.
Peoria County Sheriff Chris Watkins and Peoria County Coroner Jamie Harwood in a statement Thursday morning said they are investigating a "fatal racing accident that occurred during the Peoria Motorcycle Club TT races on Aug. 22, 2026."
Nantz was in a collision involving three riders, and the sheriff's report says he was transported to OSF HealthCare Saint Francis Medical Center for treatment. He eventually died, at 10:31 p.m., on Tuesday, Sept. 1.

Golf legend Tiger Woods has pleaded guilty to reckless driving following his March rollover crash and received a five-year driving suspension. He was also fined between $1,000 and $1,500.
According to Yahoo News, Woods initially pleaded not guilty to the charge of driving under the influence. The incident made headlines, given Woods' history of vehicle-related accidents. He was arrested immediately after the rollover crash in Jupiter Island, the Florida town where the golfer lives.
Motorbiscuit reported in March that Woods faced multiple non-felony charges, including driving under the influence, property damage, and refusing to submit to a lawful test. The incident occurred after 2:00 p.m. when Woods was traveling at a "high speed" in a designated 30-mph zone while attempting to overtake a truck hauling a pressure-washing trailer.
The truck driver reportedly saw Woods' Land Rover closing in quickly and tried to move toward the edge of the road to give the SUV more room. However, the maneuver was not enough to prevent a collision, with Woods' vehicle striking the trailer before rolling onto its driver's side and sliding along the pavement for a considerable distance.

On September 2, 2026, Tiger Woods arrived at his court date with girlfriend Vanessa Trump accompanying him, according to People. As part of a deal with the state, he pleaded no contest in response to a reckless driving charge from a March 27 incident.
The golfer had originally pleaded not guilty to charges of careless driving and DUI damage. Then the judge, Darren Steele, noted that the state amended the charges, according to Fox News, to two lesser charges that each carry a five-year license suspension with the two suspensions running concurrently.
Golf Channel provided a copy of the statement originally released by the Martin County Sheriff's Department from March 27. The report noted how the driver of a black Land Rover named Eldrick T. Woods struck a white Ford F-150, flipping the black vehicle over on its side. The driver told Deputy G. Brenovil that he was looking down at a cell phone when the other vehicle slowed down, leading to the collision.
The truck struck in the accident sustained $5,000 in damage. Neither driver received injuries.
When the golfer came out of his vehicle from the passenger door after the March crash, officers noted that he appeared alert. However, his eyes were glassy, he was profusely sweating, and he moved slowly.

Borussia Mönchengladbach newcomer Daiki Hashioka has avoided serious injury to his cervical spine and has shown no signs of neurological impairment after a head collision, the Bundesliga club said in a statement on Sunday.
Hashioka took a blow to the neck and head in a collision with Antonio Nusa during the 3-0 defeat at RB Leipzig in their league opener on Saturday, and was carried off on a stretcher.

The two sons of a police officer killed in a crash on Teesside will lead out the Manchester United team as mascots for Sunday's Premier League match against Ipswich at Old Trafford.
PC Matthew Blades, described as a "proud Red" by United, was a regular at Old Trafford. The club have paid tribute to him in Sunday's match programme. His widow will attend the game with their children.
PC Blades and his colleague PC Tom Clough died in a head-on collision between their police car and a vehicle going the wrong way on the A66 near Middlesbrough early on 22 August. Five people in the other vehicle also died.
United said they learned of the deaths of the two officers "with great sadness".
"Matthew was a proud Red, a devoted family man and a police officer who dedicated his life to helping others," said the club, in a tribute in the programme.

LSU may soon fire the loudest shot yet in a battle with its own conference.
The SEC has communicated to plaintiff attorneys that the league will comply with a Louisiana state court order permitting their clients — former professional football players — from a return to college. Yahoo Sports obtained a message from the conference legal counsel to attorneys signaling the news.
The message paves the way for a host of players to join SEC programs, most notably at LSU, where two players who signed pro contracts this summer are poised to now be on coach Lane Kiffin's roster.
Dae'Quan Wright, the former Ole Miss tight end who signed an undrafted free agent contract with the Cleveland Browns, and Ole Miss defensive tackle Zxavian Harris, who signed with the Saints before being waived, plan to sign with the university. While the signing does not immediately constitute a violation of the SEC's new policy banning former professional players, their inclusion on LSU's final roster would. Rosters are not set until a day before Game 1 (Friday).
The impending signings continues to put at odds the SEC and LSU in an unprecedented legal collision over athlete eligibility that's been brewing for days. A Louisiana judge earlier this month granted Wright and other players an additional year of eligibility through a temporary restraining order by prohibiting the NCAA from enforcing its eligibility standards.

On August 21, CNBC reported that according to notices published by Tesla and China's State Administration for Market Regulation, Tesla, Inc. (NASDAQ:TSLA) is voluntarily recalling about 3 million vehicles in China over two separate issues: door handles that can fail to open after severe crashes and deficient driver "attention monitoring" systems.
The door handle flaw related to a low-voltage system failure after collisions is part of a broader industry action. It covers roughly 4.3 million vehicles across nine automakers, the largest such recall in China's history, Bloomberg reported.
Tesla's fix will use an over-the-air software update to automatically lower windows after a crash, plus warning labels, rather than a hardware redesign. The recall covers Model 3, Model Y, Model S, and Model X vehicles built between 2019 and 2026.
Tesla, Inc. (NASDAQ:TSLA)'s remedy is cheap and fast compared with a typical hardware recall. The company is addressing the door handle issue with an over-the-air software update and physical warning labels rather than a parts replacement. It means most affected owners never need a service appointment. That keeps the direct cost and logistical burden of this recall far lower than recalls requiring in-person repairs.
Tesla was not singled out as uniquely unsafe. Eight other automakers in China also issued voluntary recalls to deal with door handle safety the same day, showing this is an industry-wide design and regulatory issue rather than a Tesla-specific failure. That context matters for how much reputational damage the recall actually does relative to competitors facing the same scrutiny.

Williams team principal James Vowles has admitted the Grove outfit must shoulder some of the blame for the late-race collision between Alex Albon and Carlos Sainz at the Dutch Grand Prix.
During a chaotic race at Zandvoort, won by McLaren's Lando Norris, the two Williams drivers came together on track while battling outside the points-paying positions.
Speaking in the team's post-race video debrief, The Vowles Verdict, the Williams boss addressed the frustrating incident.
"As you saw, Alex and Carlos came together on track," Vowles explained. "There's a lot of questions around whose fault it is, whose isn't it? I'll start with this. I think with our two drivers, both have a responsibility to not hit each other.

Christian McCaffrey in 2025 set a new single-season high for touches, 450 between the regular season and playoffs, and is now 30 years old. Maybe it is time. The youngsters, Kaelon Black and Jordan James, have given Shanahan some reason this preseason to follow through.
No promises. But, surely, the San Francisco 49ers drafted enough running backs in the McCaffrey era to hit on a couple of serviceable backups.
Black, the talk of training camp, logged a cool 28 yards on seven yards per carry in the preseason finale at the Raiders. It was just more of the same from the explosive third-round draft pick out of Indiana, who is largely running away with the RB2 role after consensus boards considered him a reach in April.
Jordan James, a 2025 fifth-rounder, had been out since before the padded portion of camp because of a collision with Fred Warner that fractured his ribs. Upon his return to practice over the weekend, James found himself behind in what had promised to be an interesting position battle.

Carrington was ejected from the Chicago Sky's Aug. 8 game against Indiana after striking Cunningham in the head while contesting a shot late in the first quarter. Cunningham was airborne when the contact occurred and fell hard to the court.
Officials initially called a common foul before upgrading it to a Flagrant 2 following a replay review. The ruling resulted in Carrington's immediate ejection. Carrington then posted "WHITE PRIVILEGE" on Threads and tagged the Fever, adding another layer to an incident already generating plenty of debate.
Barkley addressed both the foul and the social media post during an appearance on Michael Smerconish's radio show. The Basketball Hall of Famer did not leave much room for interpretation.
"It was a dirty play. Period," Barkley said.

Raheem Sterling will appear in court next month to face charges of dangerous driving and possessing nitrous oxide for wrongful inhalation after crashing his car into motorway barriers in May.
The former England winger, who most recently played for Feyenoord in the Dutch Eredivisie, crashed his Lamborghini into barriers on the M3 in Hampshire on the morning of Thursday, 28 May.
The 31-year-old was arrested and then released on bail pending further enquiries.
A Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary spokesman said: "A driver will appear in court next month to face charges following a collision on the M3.

INDIANAPOLIS — Brian Mason understandably hasn't been all that excited about the attention his left knee is getting this preseason.
Mason, the Colts' special teams coordinator, tore multiple ligaments in a sideline collision on the final play of the team's preseason opener against the Patriots, forcing him to coach from the press box for the rest of the preseason.
He hasn't missed a day of work yet. Mason was back on the field at the next Colts practice after the injury, and he has no plans to undergo surgery or miss any time in the future.
By the time the Colts open the regular season on Sept. 13 against Baltimore, Mason plans to be back in his familiar place on the sideline, knee pain be ***** ed.

Barcelona's 5-0 win over Elche should have been a night of celebration. Instead, the sight of Gavi sitting on the pitch holding his right knee created an immediate sense of worry.
The Barcelona midfielder was forced off in the 44th minute after going down following a collision with Marc Aguado.
Gavi immediately signalled that he could not continue, and the concern was obvious from his reaction as he sat on the grass, removed his shin guards and repeatedly held the affected area.

Though they're worn as protection to shield the head from violent, high-speed collisions, helmets are an integral part of a football team's uniform.
In college football, they're an inseparable part of a program's visual identity, its history and mythology, something that's ******* ociated with the most triumphant (and painful) moments and its greatest players and teams.
As with anything in college football, there's a wide variance. Some schools, like Penn State and Ohio State, opt for simplicity, with only a painted helmet and a stripe down the middle. Elliot Anderson came off after 63 minutes as Manchester City beat Bournemouth 2-1 yesterday. The England international suffered a knock to his leg after a collision with Bournemouth midfielder Alex Scott. It was feared that Anderson's injury could have kept him out of Manchester City's next match against Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park on Friday night. However, Enzo Maresca has seemingly put those fears to rest after his team's spirited win at the Etihad Stadium.
Speaking after yesterday's match, Enzo Maresca was asked about the injury that Elliot Anderson sustained. The Manchester City manager told the media that he believed that Anderson was suffering from a severe case of cramp. He also praised Anderson's efforts and those of Manchester City's other players who have recently returned to the club after their World Cup efforts. Maresca said: "I think it was cramp. There are four or five players who are not 100% and he is one of them."
"For them, it's like pre-season. They arrive very late and started working with us 10 days ago. Their effort has been unbelievable."
Manchester City will be relieved if Elliot Anderson only suffered from cramp against Bournemouth and has avoided an injury. City's midfield is currently depleted but that situation is likely to change before the transfer window closes. However, Enzo Maresca's side take on Crystal Palace on Friday night at Selhurst Park so the turnaround is short between games for City.
It remains to be seen whether Anderson will be available to play in that match. City will need their club record signing and he showed enough yesterday to indicate that he will be a very good player for Manchester City once he is at full fitness.

The New England Patriots' preseason game against the Philadelphia Eagles started in the worst possible fashion.
On the game's opening kickoff that was run back by New England's Lan Larison, Eagles running back Ja'Quinden Jackson remained on the ground after a collision. It was clear immediately that his injury was significant, prompting a quick reaction from the medical staff.
Jackson eventually was put on a stretcher and left the field in an ambulance. His team later shared that he has "strength and movement in all extremities" and was being taken to a hospital for further evaluation. His agent, Damien Butler, released a statement afterwards that his client was "awake, has full movement and use of all four limbs, and his CT scan came back negative."
The scene nonetheless was a scary one. Afterwards, the Patriots expressed their well-wishes for the 24-year-old.
"I would just like to send our thoughts and prayers out for Ja'Quinden Jackson," said New England head coach Mike Vrabel during his postgame presser. "You never like to see that. Obviously, I hope everything's okay there. That's not how you want to start any game or see anybody out there on the field like that."

NEW YORK (AP) — Vladimir Guerrero Jr. passed his final concussion tests and the Toronto Blue Jays slugger is expected to return from the seven-day injured list on Saturday.
Guerrero returned to the team on Friday and took swings in the batting cage after doubling during a minor league rehabilitation game for Single-A Dunedin on Thursday.
"He felt good," manager John Schneider said before the Blue Jays opened a three-game series with the Yankees. "Even before he left to play in Clearwater, he was feeling good. He feels pretty normal, so that's a good thing."

The six-time All-Star was injured when he slid at third base and had Lombard's knee and thigh strike his head. The play caused Guerrero's helmet to get dislodged, though the first baseman scored the tying run before exiting.

BEIJING, Aug 21 (Reuters) - Tesla will roll out software fixes for ‌millions of vehicles in China, ‌the country's market regulator said on Monday, marking the automaker's largest-ever recall in the market.
Effective September 25, Tesla will recall 2.98 million China-made and ‌imported Model 3, ⁠Model Y, Model S and Model X vehicles because ⁠emergency door release handles may be difficult to identify, potentially hindering escape or rescue after a severe crash ‌and electrical system failure. The remedy includes warning labels and an over-the-air (OTA) update that lowers windows after a collision.
Separately, Tesla is immediately recalling ‌2.74 million China-made Model 3 and Model Y vehicles for an OTA software update ‌to enhance driver-attention monitoring while ******* isted steering and other driver-assistance functions are engaged, reducing the risk of ‌collisions if drivers fail to respond promptly.

Riders are risking their lives in races where organisers battle huge costs, and cycling's world governing body the UCI "cannot keep traffic off the roads", according to former rider and team boss Jonathan Vaughters.
Britain's Fin Tarling, 19, died during the Volta a Portugal on Friday following a high-speed collision with a van which had strayed on to the closed road.
A Go Fund Me page to promote young cycling talent has been set up in memory of Tarling, who rode for the NSN Cycling Development Team and was brother to Netcompany-Ineos' Josh Tarling.
Vaughters, who is co-founder and boss of the EF Education-Easypost World Tour team told BBC Sport: "What I'm really not enjoying is this sentiment that's coming from very powerful people in cycling, that says: 'What can you do? Sometimes cars just end up on the road - this is just part of doing competitive sport on the open road.' That is not true. This is preventable."
He added: "People look at the Tour de France and see a bunch of riders going through the beautiful French countryside, but fundamentally it's a very dangerous sport. From the start of my career I can't tell you how many people we've lost."
