We had seen a number of signals that some of the trending narratives on how the public felt about the predominant economic system were misleading. But we don't operate on feelings, but instead we respond to data, so we tested it. There's a narrative that's taken hold since the financial crisis — that the public has simply given up on capitalism, that a decade of scandals and populist politics has turned the average voter against the system outright. We fielded a nationally representative survey of 3,000 people, backed by focus groups, to find out if that was actually true or if something more specific was going on. It turned out to be the latter.

The six-day competition, which starts on Monday, is being hosted by the Royal Yachting **** ociation (RYA) at the Weymouth and Portland National Sailing Academy in Dorset.
A fan zone next to Weymouth Pavilion, with a big screen, commentary, athlete interviews, music and medal ceremonies, will open on Saturday from 10:00 BST to 18:00, with racing from 12:00.
The zone will run alongside Weymouth Water Fest on the beach, where there will be opportunities to try free, bookable activities including kayaking, paddleboarding, beach yoga and sea swimming.
iQFOiL is the Olympic windsurfing class, with hydrofoil boards that lift clear of the water, reaching speeds of up to 35 knots (65kph).

Florida running back Jadan Baugh opened the season with 160 yards and three touchdowns on 14 carries, pushing him past the 2,000-yard mark for his career.
Baugh is the 20th player in program history to reach 2,000 yards on the ground, and he now sits at 2,003 through 26 career games. The junior is already climbing a crowded part of Florida's record book, with James Jones (2,068), Mike Gillislee (2,072) and Deshawn Wynn (2,077) all within 75 yards.
The opener against FAU also marked Baugh's sixth career 100-yard rushing game and moved him to 18 career rushing touchdowns, good for No. 16 in program history. That gives this season a second record-book race to track alongside his yardage total.
Baugh is coming off a 1,170-yard sophomore season that already placed him among the most productive backs in Florida history. He became just the third underclassman in program history to rush for 1,000 yards in a season, joining Emmitt Smith and Errict Rhett. Every baseball fan is familiar with the scam known as the shell game— after all, it's present, in more innocuous form, in the cap shuffle ubiquitous to scoreboards. Tonight Zack Wheeler offered the visiting Braves a shell game, tempting them with three baserunners through three at-bats… but when the Braves selected their shell, there weren't very many runs underneath.
The start was rather subpar for the home crowd, with Wheeler allowing a pair of singles to the first two Braves, then walking Matt Olson to load the bases with none away. But a pop fly and a strikeout (aided by a canny ABS challenge from J.T. Realmuto) put him just a single out away from pulling off the great escape. Ozzie Albies flew out to center, and the Braves trudged back to the dugout with the dreaded ****** LETIGER (No Outs, Bases Loaded, Ending in Team Incapable of Getting Easy Runs, it's a real term) nipping at their heels.
But the Phillies would give Atlanta starter Martin Pérez a rougher start. Kyle Schwarber and Trea Turner worked walks to start off the game, with the former dashing for third on a fly out from Bryce Harper, and slipping right past the tag. A single to right from Luis Arraez scored him, and the bases were then loaded on a walk of Alec Bohm. Realmuto walked to bring in a run (an ABS challenge on ball four proved fruitless for the visitors). The inning ended when Ronald Acuña Jr, looking truly superb, leapt into the air to turn a line drive from Bryson Stott into out number three.
Wheeler's second inning of work was a far smoother affair, with three up and three down. Pérez could not say the same. Derek Hill lined a ball to right, and Acuña suddenly looked far less superb, stumbling and allowing Hill to reach third. He then scored when Matt Olson bobbled a grounder at first.
The roller coaster ride that is Ronald then took another sudden swerve in the top of the third as he sent a Wheeler sweeper deep, deep into the left field seats. But the Phillies were certainly not inclined to let themselves be outslugged in their own ballpark: in the bottom of the fourth, Schwarber knocked a Pérez pitch over the fence in right. Two more hits, both with two outs, ensued, and Pérez's night ended.

This year's Week 1 matchup for Ohio State wasn't nearly as exciting as last year's, but the Buckeyes came out on top either way. With the TBDBITL alumni in attendance, Ohio State honored Jim Tressel with his Ring of Honor induction and got a dominant, narrative-forming win over the Ball State Cardinals. From established Heisman Trophy candidates making their case to new faces showing what they can do, Ohio State's 2026 season is off to an impressive start.
After Malachi Toney lit up Stanford on Friday, all eyes were going to be on Jeremiah Smith and what he does against a low-end MAC program. When the dust settled, Smith did everything he needed to do in the first half. In total, he hauled in eight passes for 151 yards and two touchdowns. If that seems blah, it's his 12th 100-yard game, and seventh multi-touchdown game in his storied career.
With that, he moved closer to owning the Ohio State triple crown of records. He now sits 35 receptions, 190 yards, and seven touchdowns away from sitting atop the leaderboards in all three categories.
It was another dominant game from the player widely considered among the best in the country. His first catch was a 48-yard touchdown in which he pinned the ball to his facemask with just his right hand. There is plenty of great football in his near future; that's for sure.
If there is anything to nitpick in a ridiculously lopsided affair, it'll be the performance of a couple of first-year players.

CINCINNATI (AP) — Offensive linemen rarely receive much promotion or have preseason marketing campaigns built around them.
However, with three NFL draft candidates, the University of Cincinnati is trying to change that.
Left guard Evan Tengesdahl, left tackle Joe Cotton and center Taran Tyo aim to turn Nippert Stadium into the Football House of Pancakes. The trio anchors an offensive line that was among the best in the nation last season.
The linemen have been featured on billboards throughout Cincinnati, along with television and radio advertisements, ahead of Saturday's game against Boston College.
"They deserve the promotion. They were one of the top offensive line units in the country last year, and you've got a bunch of them back," coach Scott Satterfield said. "Most of the time, you don't give O-linemen much love. They never get to score, they don't get to make catches or carry the ball. There's few things more excruciating for a fantasy football manager than watching one of your players waste away on a bad offense. Whether it's poor play-calling, offensive line play or an incompetent quarterback, even the best receivers and running backs can struggle to break through because of their circumstances.
We've already identified the teams to avoid in fantasy for that reason, and now it's the flip side of that coin. Here are five teams worth targeting in 2026 fantasy football drafts, as they could produce enough offensive fireworks to have several players worth rostering.
The Chargers brought in OC Mike McDaniel to revitalize their offense after he did wonders with Tua Tagovailoa in Miami. Tackles Rashawn Slater and Joe Alt are now healthy as well, so it's full speed ahead for Justin Herbert, running back Omarion Hampton and receivers Ladd McConkey and Quentin Johnston. I'm targeting Johnston late in all my drafts, as he's the Chargers' undisputed deep threat with Herbert one of the NFL's best deep passers. Johnston is a steal at his current ADP.
Dallas has the NFL's most fearsome wide receiver duo in CeeDee Lamb and George Pickens, plus a surgically accurate quarterback in Dak Prescott. Javonte Williams is also coming off a career year as the team's lead running back, and his powerful style should continue to be a perfect complement to the high-flying pass game. All four players are worth targeting, but tight end Jake Ferguson is a fade at his current ADP as his game is touchdown-reliant and lacks the verticality of, say, Isaiah Likely or Juwan Johnson.
Ben Johnson has a case to be the NFL's brightest offensive mind, so it's wise to load up on Bears in drafts. D'Andre Swift is a perfect RB2 if you go WR heavy early. Rome Odunze and Luther Burden III have a big chance to outplay their ADP if Caleb Williams can take the leap many are expecting. And as for the tight end skyrocketing up draft boards, Colston Loveland has a chance for a Travis Kelce-type season if he can stay healthy and build off the momentum he had late last season.

On August 10, TPG Mortgage Investment Trust, Inc. (NYSE:MITT) and Cherry Hill Mortgage Investment Corporation (NYSE:CHMI) announced a definitive merger agreement in which MITT will acquire CHMI. Under the cash-and-stock deal, CHMI stockholders will receive 0.3063 shares of MITT common stock and $0.93 in cash per share, implying a value of $3.10 per CHMI share based on August 7 closing prices. This represents a 29% premium to CHMI's unaffected price and a 32% premium to its 30-day VWAP. Unanimously approved by both boards and slated to close in Q4 2026, the combined entity will operate as TPG Mortgage Investment Trust under CEO T.J. Durkin, expanding MITT's board to eight with two CHMI independent directors.
Following the announcement, Citizens downgraded Cherry Hill Mortgage from Outperform to Market Perform on August 11, removing its price target and noting that CHMI shares are now fairly valued around the $3.10 implied buyout price.

The Indiana Fever are ending the season incredibly strong as they continue to rack up wins. On Friday night, they comfortably took care of the Connecticut Sun.
Led by Caitlin Clark and Kelsey Mitchell, the team romped to a victory in which they scored 111 points. Clark and Mitchell combined to put up 68 of those.

A town's businesses have said they will "suffer massively" if they are forced to strip the streets outside their shops of displays and signage.
Hampshire County Council told traders in Lymington's cobbled Quay Street they must remove such items by Friday, or contractors could remove them instead.
The move follows three anonymous complaints made on 15 July, relating to items outside Quayside Fish Hut, Out of the Blue and Lymington Mobiles.
A Hampshire County Council spokesperson said it was responsible for keeping pavements and verges "safe and accessible for everyone".
It also said items such as advertising boards could narrow footways, block access and create hazards.

LAS VEGAS - Kyle Shanahan says the same thing about his star running back every year. Something about a need to manage his workload. Only to give him the ball 400 times and shrug.
Christian McCaffrey in 2025 set a new single-season high for touches, 450 between the regular season and playoffs, and is now 30 years old. Maybe it is time. The youngsters, Kaelon Black and Jordan James, have given Shanahan some reason this preseason to follow through.
No promises. But, surely, the San Francisco 49ers drafted enough running backs in the McCaffrey era to hit on a couple of serviceable backups.
Black, the talk of training camp, logged a cool 28 yards on seven yards per carry in the preseason finale at the Raiders. It was just more of the same from the explosive third-round draft pick out of Indiana, who is largely running away with the RB2 role after consensus boards considered him a reach in April.
Jordan James, a 2025 fifth-rounder, had been out since before the padded portion of camp because of a collision with Fred Warner that fractured his ribs. Upon his return to practice over the weekend, James found himself behind in what had promised to be an interesting position battle.

MOUNT PLEASANT, S.C. (WCBD) – Organizers of the Cooper River Bridge Run have unveiled the official design for the race's 50th anniversary event, set for spring 2027.
The winning artwork, created by Chuck Jones, was revealed Wednesday during a special event at Alhambra Hall in Mount Pleasant featuring Storm Team 2 Chief Meteorologist Rob Fowler.
Selected after months of submissions, public voting and judging, Jones' design commemorates the milestone anniversary by featuring the Arthur Ravenel Jr. Bridge alongside the two former Cooper River spans, the John P. Grace Memorial Bridge and the Silas N. Pearman Bridge.
Race organizers said the design will be featured on official race merchandise and promotional materials, including T-shirts, posters and billboards leading up to the event.
The 50th annual Cooper River Bridge Run is scheduled for April 3, 2027.

Directors at four Federal Reserve regional banks voted to increase the primary credit rate in the days before the Fed's July meeting, discount rate minutes released Tuesday showed, providing fresh evidence of how divided the central bank was heading into that decision.
The directors of the Cleveland and Minneapolis Fed banks voted on July 16, 2026, and the directors of the Kansas City and Dallas Fed banks voted on July 23, to set the primary credit rate at 4%, a quarter-percentage-point increase from the existing level of 3.75%. The Board of Governors took no action on those requests and approved maintaining the rate at 3.75%.
At the July 28–29 joint meeting of the Board and the Federal Open Market Committee, policymakers voted to keep the federal funds target range at 3.5% to 3.75%. Three FOMC members dissented, according to Reuters. Regional Fed bank directors have no role in setting the federal funds rate and hold no FOMC seats, but they convene regularly with their bank presidents and those presidents say the directors' perspectives inform their own policy thinking.
Notably, Kansas City Fed President Jeff Schmid lacked a voting seat on the FOMC this year, according to Reuters, so his bank's directors pushed for a rate hike at a meeting where he was unable to cast a dissenting vote himself.
