The New York Yankees entered the offseason facing familiar questions about their offensive identity after another frustrating end to their season. Despite the talent in their lineup, the Yankees were swept by the division rival Tampa Bay Rays in the American League Division Series, leaving the franchise to confront concerns about its execution, approach and ability to deliver when the stakes are highest.
The team's reliance on superstar slugger Aaron Judge was laid bare, as the offense struggled to produce while he was sidelined by an injury. And its failure to execute fundamental defensive and baserunning plays has come under fire as well, particularly after the Rays and World Series champion Milwaukee Brewers succeeded with such a different style.
Former Yankees manager Joe Girardi articulated many of the criticisms surrounding the Yankees shortly after their season ended.
"Joe Girardi isn't blaming Aaron Boone for the Yankees' shortcomings, but believes a deeper-rooted culture issue might have contributed to the team being swept in the ALDS," Mark Suleymanov wrote for the New York Post. "Girardi cited Austin Wells' baserunning blunder in Game 1 and Jazz Chisholm Jr.'s disastrous throw in an error-filled Game 2 as examples of the team's fundamental failures — and the concerning response to those mistakes."
And with the Yankees under fire for a power-heavy offense and poor fundamentals, one of their most intriguing infield prospects has spoken out about the kind of change he'd like to see in the sport.

UW and Nebraska face off in Lincoln this weekend for the first time as conference foes. The long and storied history between the two teams stretches exactly 101 years and two weeks to the day between the very first match up in 1925 and this Saturday's game. That shared history primarily revolves around the four games played during the 1990s when both programs were at their peak. The 1991 game featured a furious second half comeback in Lincoln that built the momentum towards UW's eventual national championship. The Cornhuskers' return trip to Seattle in 1992 set the stage for the loudest recorded home crowd in college football history. Five years later, Nebraska returned to Montlake to get their revenge for the previous two games while on their way to their own national championship in 1997 in Tom Osborne's final season.
For these two programs, the current stakes of this weekend's game are much lower, although not entirely without significance. Both Washington and Nebraska enter Saturday night's matchup at a crossroads in their seasons. Nebraska sits at 5-2 overall and 2-2 in Big Ten play, but the Cornhuskers are coming off consecutive close losses to Indiana and Oregon. Despite those defeats, Matt Rhule's team has established itself as one of the league's most physical and statistically dominant defenses, keeping every game within reach through disciplined play, strong linebacker action, and excellent situational defense.
Washington, meanwhile, is 4-3 overall and 1-3 in conference play. The Huskies snapped a three-game losing streak with a 38-26 victory over Purdue before their bye week and arrive in Lincoln needing momentum to salvage their Big Ten campaign. Jedd Fisch's offense remains heavily dependent on its passing attack, ranking among the conference's better aerial units, but questions at quarterback and a struggling rushing offense persist.
Over Matt Rhule's four years at Nebraska, the Cornhuskers have embraced a physical and gritty, defensive-oriented identity as a program. Under first-year defensive coordinator, Rob Aurich, Nebraska has maintained the aggressive, fundamentally sound identity Nebraska built under Rhule. The Cornhuskers rank 14th nationally in scoring defense, 9th in total defense, and are holding opponents to just 171 passing yards and 99 rushing yards per game on average. Their suffocating rushing defense on early downs often position them in 3rd & long passing situations where they pressure packages and blanketing secondary can create plays. This formula is what has allowed Nebraska to lead the FBS in defensive 3rd down conversion percentage at just 19%. To put that statistic into perspective, Nebraska's defense has allowed just eight third down conversions in their four Big Ten conference games this season, including games with just one allowed against Maryland and Indiana.
Nebraska typically operates from a multiple-front structure, mixing even-front and odd-front looks while emphasizing gap discipline and disgui

On Thursday, the Houston Comets unveiled a new brand identity. According to a team announcement, the release "represents a defining moment in the return of one of the most iconic franchises in women's sports."
Revealed during a celebration at POST Houston, the new identity marks the beginning of the Comets' next chapter. The evening brought together Comets legends, fans, partners, and community leaders for a first look at the franchise's new era, and it all culminated with the unveiling of the team's new logo.
As the Comets prepare to return to the court in 2027, the brand identity honors the franchise's historic championship legacy while also introducing a bold, modern look for a new generation of fans.
One of the WNBA's original eight franchises, the Comets established the league's first dynasty by winning four consecutive championships from 1997 through 2000. The brand identity pays homage to that foundation while looking ahead to the new era of the team and its connection to its fans.
"This is a landmark moment for the Comets, for Houston, and for the continued growth of women's sports," said Gretchen Sheirr, president of business operations for the Houston Rockets and Comets. "This franchise helped define the early years of the WNBA, and we are incredibly proud to honor that championship history while building something modern, bold, and distinctly Houston for the future."

Ford has now announced the cars, the colors, the concert, the cable channel and the charity fund for its Veterans Day Classic at Daytona. What it hasn't announced, at least in the material it has published so far, is how long the race runs or how a winner gets picked. That gap is the story, and it's why the lineup tells you more than the poster does.
The event is set for Wednesday, Nov. 11, at Daytona International Speedway, three days after the Cup Series finale at Homestead (here's how that November calendar stacks up). Ford is running it in collaboration with NASCAR, Blue Star Families, IMSA and HSR, according to Ford's own announcement. Twelve Ford Racing drivers will split into six teams, one for each branch of the U.S. military, all in Mustang Dark Horse R race cars.
Think about what that means. In a normal NASCAR weekend, Ford's pitch to its fans is simple: beat Chevrolet and Toyota. Here there is **** ody to beat. Every driver, every car and every logo on the grid is Ford, so the manufacturer has to build the stakes from scratch. Its answer is the military branch as team identity, and Ford says the teams are racing for bragging rights.
That is a smart device and a fragile one. A one-make race can't borrow rivalry from the paddock. It has to earn it in two hours of television, which is why the details Ford hasn't filled in matter more than usual.
Ford's lineup pairs the drivers like this: Army gets Joey Hand and Brad Keselowski, the Marine Corps gets Ryan Blaney and Ben Hobson, the Navy gets Logan Sargeant and Ryan Preece, the Air Force gets Frankie Muniz and Austin Cindric, the **** e Force gets Noah Gragson and Layne Riggs, and the Coast Guard gets Joey Logano and Ty Majeski.

WEST LAFAYETTE — You can call Purdue basketball's 87-55 exhibition victory over Ball State on Sunday a soft opening.
Rehearsals for the regular season continue, and roles remain up for grabs on a remade roster. The vibe around the 11 Boilermakers who shared relatively equal minutes, though, remains one of anticipation for what lies ahead.
You may need to give this new cast some time to come together. Those players – some character actors vying to become stars, some understudies stepping into the spotlight for the first time – like where this is headed.
They cannot offer the **** urance which comes with returning Final Four starters, roles chiseled in stone and championship expectations set as an afterthought. What was on display Sunday, though, was a new and different energy – one with unrealized upside.
"I feel that's what makes this team good and makes this team different, is the balance we have between all our guards and our bigs," redshirt freshman guard Antione West Jr. said. "Everybody brings something. There's no weak points or anything we lack in our guards, so it just brings a sense of balance. I think that's our identity."

Alan Ritchson and his wife, Catherine, are putting a positive spin on their shock divorce, but friends of the former couple are bracing themselves for a messy situation in the months ahead, a source tells the National Enquirer.
"People around Alan were pretty shocked at the timing of this break-up, especially because being an involved, sensitive dad has been central to Alan's identity for so long," reveals the source. "That's still the thing he's most broken up about with this divorce: it's going to mean less time with [sons Calem, Edan and Amory] and there's almost nothing he can do about that."
After twenty years of marriage, the Reacher star, 43, and his writer-producer wife, 42, announced their split in a joint Instagram post on September 12, pledging to become the "strongest co-parents" they can be. "We also want to give each other room to grow into the people we are becoming," the statement read.
"[Alan] was quite protective of Catherine and the kids when the Reacher series first got started, and then the show kind of took over everything and made him richer and way more famous than he ever expected," admits the source. "It's a lot to go through in just a few short years, and Alan's insane training schedule, completely apart from the long filming days, didn't make things easier."

Supporters have launched an online campaign in recent weeks aimed at protecting the identity of a woman, identified as "Jane Doe," who alleges in a civil lawsuit that she was drugged and raped by multiple members of a Cornell University fraternity in 2024.
Jane Doe's lawyer says that the ex-Cornell student has received "multiple threats" in recent days aimed at exposing her real identity.
"There are people out there trying to track her down," Thomas Giuffra, who represents Jane Doe, told CNN's State of the Union on Sunday. "They said, 'We're gonna shut you up. You're gonna still get hurt by us. You're gonna pull this lawsuit out or we're gonna do something to hurt you even more.'
"The threats, the abuse to protect what's going on, the status quo — these guys are disgusting," Giuffra added.
Among those trying to identify Jane Doe is political commentator Michael Tracey, who publicly asked anyone with information about her identity to contact him and said he would publish her name and identifying details.

Christy Carlson Romano knows how to play a role, but finding herself has proven to be her greatest performance.
The Emmy-nominated actress and Disney Channel alum looks back on her turbulent upbringing in the spotlight in her debut memoir "Once Upon a Trainwreck: The Fall and Rise of a Child Star" (out now).
Romano, alongside fellow Disney darlings Shia LaBeouf, Hilary Duff and Raven-Symoné, epitomized teen stardom in the early 2000s, appearing in beloved TV shows and movies such as "Even Stevens," "Cadet Kelly" and "Kim Possible."
Despite her success, Romano often felt adrift in young Hollywood, intimidated by the upper echelons of prime-time dramas and glossy magazine covers.
"Looking back, I was really just trying to fit into whatever opportunity was thrown my way, rather than kind of create my own identity so that opportunities would find me in a different light," Romano tells USA TODAY. "I didn't have a stylist or a publicist, and I didn't really invest in myself the way that maybe I should have, to get to know exactly who I wanted to be, even if [that] changed over the years."

Wealthy baby boomers have spent decades building their fortunes—and the foundations, donor-advised funds, and giving traditions that come with them. But as the $124 trillion Great Wealth Transfer gets underway, a growing share of the older generation isn't so sure their kids will carry on tradition the way they hope.
Fewer than half of wealthy Americans (47%) believe the next generation is prepared to take on family philanthropic causes, down from 55% in 2024, according to research from Bank of America released last week. The share of parents who believe their children share their commitment to giving back fell even more sharply to 65% from 76%. The bank surveyed more than 1,430 wealthy individuals in the U.S. aged 21 or older with at least $3 million in investable ******* ets, excluding primary residence.
The confidence gap in philanthropy mirrors a broader anxiety wealth advisors have noticed about whether heirs are ready for any of it.
"This is a very real concern I'm hearing from ultra-affluent families right now," Tom Thiegs, managing director of leadership and legacy at Ascent Private Capital Management with U.S. Bank, told Fortune of parents' fears that wealth could dampen their children's drive. Trent Von Ahsen of Cedar Point Capital Partners also told Fortune his clients are leaning on mentorship and phased wealth transfers rather than lump-sum inheritances.
But the irony is younger donors are, by several of the study's measures, more engaged donors than older generations. Gen Z and millennial donors support an average of 12 charitable causes, compared with eight among wealth donors overall. They're also roughly twice as likely to use a donor-advised fund, and 87% say honoring their family's philanthropic tradition is important. Meanwhile, 86% say it's equally important to establish their own charitable identity.

The lawyer for the woman who alleges she was raped at a Cornell University fraternity house says she is "not doing well" as she finds herself "under siege" from online sleuths seeking to identity her.
Thomas Giuffra said the woman known in legal documents as Jane Doe was "incapable of consent" because she was "completely, grossly intoxicated" when she turned up at the home where she says the ***** ault took place.
The woman alleges she was ***** aulted by seven men at the campus in Ithaca, New York, in 2024.
No charges were initially filed in the case. It has reopened since she filed a civil lawsuit that thrust the claims into the national spotlight, reigniting the possibility of criminal charges.

Sarah Jessica Parker knows a thing or two about memorable footwear, and her latest New York City Ballet appearance was a fitting take on the art of the statement shoe. Sarah Jessica Parker GC Images The Emmy winner completed her romantic, ballet-inspired ensemble with sparkling silver pointed heels while attending the 2026 Fall Fashion Gala at David H. Barron Trump is stepping into his own style, and his latest look is a striking departure from the polished image he's long shared with dad Donald Trump.
The youngest child of the President of the United States might be trying to carve out his own identity in his father's town, Washington, D.C. Barron, 20, is currently a junior at New York University's satellite campus, so it makes sense for him to play with his sense of style. In recent snapshots published by ***** o!, Barron has ditched the slicked-back hair for a more casual 'do.

The artfully tousled hair was paired with a noticeably dressed-down look too. Instead of the tailored suits he wears to his father's events, he went with a business casual outfit: khakis, a white Ralph Lauren polo shirt, and a black backpack. It's rare to see the president's son captured by paparazzi outside of official White House functions.

A woman who reported to the police that Rick Ross allegedly committed domestic violence against her is revealed to be the rapper's former girlfriend by TMZ, just a few hours after Ross himself surrendered on the domestic violence allegations.
Rick Ross, whose real name is William Leonard Roberts II and who is 50 years old, turned himself in to Miami Beach police early Thursday morning. According to the documents provided by the county jail and court, Ross has been charged with felony battery by strangulation and misdemeanor battery related to domestic violence and booked into the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center at 6:10 a.m. He has posted a $6,000 bond for his release: $5,000 for the felony and $1,000 for the misdemeanor.
The sources in law enforcement, cited by TMZ, claimed that the woman contacted the police on Tuesday, roughly a month after the alleged **** ault. The website has not disclosed the complainant's identity, and authorities have not yet released the arrest affidavit.
As TMZ reports, the woman said that the alleged **** ault took place on August 28th, when Ross woke her up over a photo she had been tagged in on social media.
According to the woman, Ross demanded explanations from her about lying to him, slapped her in the face, and accused her of having affairs with other men. She told the police that he hit her every time she denied it. Moreover, the woman claimed that Ross struck her in the chest several times, choked her till she could not breathe, yanked her ponytail, and pushed her against the wall. Then she showed the photos of the injuries to the police, according to TMZ.

If you're trying to build a consumer-focused corner of your portfolio that can grow through a lot of different economic backdrops, three names stand out right now: Church & Dwight Co. (NYSE: CHD), YETI Holdings (NYSE: YETI), and Newell Brands (NASDAQ: NWL). Each of these is making deliberate moves in 2026 and into 2027 that communicate to me more about their future than any single rocky quarter's earnings line.
Missed Nvidia in 2009? This Rare Signal Is Flashing Again. In 2009, a "Double Down" signal flashed for a little-known chipmaker called Nvidia. For the first time in years, that same "Total Conviction" signal is flashing for a company 1/100th the size of Nvidia. Continue »
Church & Dwight has built its identity on everyday products like baking soda, laundry detergents, and cleaners that quietly show up in millions of homes. In May 2026, it moved to deepen that footprint by buying the Miss Mouth's Messy Eater brand, a fast-growing, non-toxic stain remover built for parents. It's a small thing on paper, but it fits this successful company's patterns: Keep layering niche, repeat-use products into an existing distribution machine instead of chasing flashy new categories.
The company's first-quarter 2026 update backs that strategy up. Organic sales rose 5% even though reported net sales were basically flat due to past portfolio pruning, per company management. Management described 2026 as a year of "volume-driven" organic growth, meaning they're focused on selling more units to real customers, not just leaning on price increases. On top of that, Church & Dwight extended its long dividend record yet again. Although it is not quite a Dividend King, it has consistently raised its dividend for 29 years.
For investors, my advice here is straightforward: Treat Church & Dwight as a core holding in a consumer bucket. It's unlikely to deliver fireworks in a single year, but it keeps making acquisitions to deepen its understanding of existing categories.

SailPoint Inc. (NASDAQ:SAIL), a leading player within the enterprise identity security ****** e, recently expanded its strategic alliance with CrowdStrike. As part of the revised arrangement, the company's SailPoint SecOps Identity Intelligence will be integrated with CrowdStrike Falcon Next-Gen SIEM. This will help in expediting threat detection procedures, and will also incorporate access data and identity governance into the overall investigation process. The expanded partnership will facilitate security teams in lining up the identity insights with Falcon's existing security telemetry.

The announcement aligns strongly with SailPoint's broader strategic narrative revealed in its Q2 FY27 print. It builds upon several recent initiatives undertaken by the management, such as introduction of the SailPoint Identity Security solution. This is aimed toward integrating SailPoint Agentic Fabric with SailPoint Human Fabric for real-time discovery and security of complex digital ecosystems. The company also launched its Cursor Enterprise connector, which helps organizations to leverage a highly-integrated control plane to manage human developers and autonomous AI agents.
The recently released financials also back this narrative as the company delivered a 25% year-over-year growth in its annual recurring revenue, which stood at $1.231 billion. SailPoint generated $45 million in operating cash flow during the second quarter, along with $37 million in free cash flow.
By weaving SailPoint's identity intelligence into Falcon Next-Gen SIEM, customers gain extra context inside workflows they already rely on, making it easier to probe identity-related risks. The integration augments SailPoint's position at a time when identity threats are on a rise. This leads to an opportunity for SailPoint to cement itself as a leading provider of advanced security solutions.

On September 14, during the episode of Mad Money, Jim Cramer said CrowdStrike Holdings, Inc. (NASDAQ:CRWD) is emerging as a beneficiary of growing concerns over the cybersecurity risks created by artificial intelligence, as he said:
Over the weekend, the co-founder and CEO of Anthropic published an essay where he pushed for a slowdown among the frontier AI labs in order to handle newfound security concerns. In response to that, the cybersecurity cohort just went crazy because there are the companies that can prevent AI agents from randomly hacking into networks all over the world, and it's the cybersecurity companies. Take CrowdStrike, which shot up nearly 14% today, leading the S&P 500, something I feel great about, of course, because we own it big for the Charitable Trust. These guys have been adamant that AI represented a great opportunity for their business, and now Wall Street's finally gotten the memo.
CrowdStrike Holdings, Inc.'s (NASDAQ:CRWD) second-quarter fiscal 2027 revenue increased 26% year over year to $1.47 billion, while ending annual recurring revenue rose 25% to $5.84 billion. Net new ARR reached a record $332.8 million, and free cash flow was $377.4 million. The company also raised its full-year fiscal 2027 net new ARR growth outlook to 34% at the midpoint, up 630 basis points. CEO George Kurtz said the company believes securing AI is its "largest market opportunity in our history."
Kurtz said on September 14 that AI-driven threats are already operating at machine speed, describing the emerging threat as autonomous campaigns rather than individual hackers. He identified endpoints, cloud workloads and SaaS as key battlegrounds and said "enforcement at machine speed" is needed to stop AI agents in motion. CrowdStrike has responded by expanding into AI-agent, model and infrastructure protection, including Continuous Identity for AI Agents and Falcon AI Detection and Response.
CrowdStrike Holdings, Inc.'s (NASDAQ:CRWD) valuation leaves little room for a meaningful slowdown in growth. Yahoo Finance currently shows a forward P/E of approximately 188.7 times and a price-to-sales ratio of roughly 44.6 times. Those multiples leave little room for a material slowdown in ARR growth, weaker adoption of newer products, or greater competitive pressure. The company also remains much less profitable on a GAAP basis than its adjusted results suggest. The company reported a $33.2 million GAAP operating loss in the latest quarter against $371.6 million of non-GAAP operating income, while stock-based compensation and related employer payroll taxes totaled $399 million.

Freight fraud risks and carrier vetting are the focus as Highway Chief Commercial Officer Michael Caney joins FreightWaves Today. He breaks down what brokers, carriers and shippers need to watch right now when onboarding and monitoring capacity. If you work fraud prevention, carrier compliance or network procurement, this conversation gets straight to the operational takeaway without the fluff.#FreightFraud #CarrierVetting #SupplyChain
Carrier-vetting platform Highway is putting its balance sheet behind its fraud-detection product: if a broker moves freight using Highway's guarantee standard and loses a load, Highway writes a check for $100,000. The company's chief commercial officer said the program covers the vast majority of carrier capacity in North America — and has paid out only once across roughly one million loads.
Of the approximately 175,000 carriers that move freight for freight brokers, Highway says more than 82% qualify for the guarantee tier. "What I would tell you is the industry keeps trying to solve for the bottom 18% of the market," the CCO said. "And what we're saying is if you will just move your freight to this cohort of carriers, which is the majority of capacity in North America, not only will you be fine, but Highway will stand behind it with a performance guarantee."
"The average cargo theft is not the $100,000, it's $250,000. This idea that a motor carrier can just show up and say, hey man, I'm gonna need this cargo, it's $250 grand, I'm good for it, is bananas."
The single payout to date stemmed from an identity-design flaw tied to California's non-domiciled limited-term licensing rules. A fraudulent carrier obtained a new license through California's process, resubmitted in Highway's system, and the alert dropped off before the bug was caught and fixed — costing Highway $100,000. The CCO described theft events as a "Swiss cheese" of compounding decisions rather than a single failure point, and said Highway continuously monitors for ownership changes, inbox compromises, and cyber anomalies within the guarantee framework.

The U.S. fuel crisis stemming from the ongoing war in Iran has now reached the retail shelf, with Costco Wholesale (COST) nearly doubling the price of its Kirkland Signature full-synthetic motor oil from roughly $30 to $58 per 5-quart two-pack, while simultaneously capping purchases at two units per membership every seven days.
It's an extraordinary move for a retailer whose entire brand identity rests on bulk buying at deep discounts, and it signals that severe supply chain disruptions are spreading well beyond the gasoline pump.

MiKargo247 is expanding its spot cargo insurance coverage to include strategic cargo theft under a new partnership with Verified Carrier.
The coverage is designed to address a growing category of freight fraud involving double brokering, carrier identity theft and fictitious pickups. Under the partnership, brokers using Verified Carrier can purchase MiKargo247 spot cargo insurance and have the strategic theft exclusion removed when the load is hauled by an eligible verified carrier. The companies announced the partnership Sept. 1.
Strategic cargo theft accounted for about 30% of reported U.S. cargo theft incidents in 2025, according to a June report from Munich Re Specialty and BSI Consulting. The report found that criminals are increasingly using deception, impersonation and other fraud-based methods to obtain freight rather than relying solely on physically stealing cargo from trucks or facilities.
The shift creates a challenge for brokers and insurers because fraudulent actors can make it difficult to determine who is actually hauling a load.
The FBI warned in April that cyber-enabled strategic cargo theft is increasing, with criminals using compromised accounts, fictitious companies and double-brokering schemes to divert legitimate freight. The agency recommended that transportation companies independently verify shipment requests and pickups before releasing loads.
