Futures for the Dow Jones Industrial Average and the other major stock indexes traded lower Monday as oil prices surged amid the U.S.-Iran conflict. The Nasdaq took the brunt of the pain as Nvidia (NVDA) and other artificial intelligence stocks sold off on the stock market today after industry leaders urged a slowdown in AI model development.
Ahead of Monday's open, Dow futures dropped 0.4% while S&P 500 futures fell 0.7%. Nasdaq-100 futures tumbled 1.7% in early morning trading.
West Texas Intermediate crude futures advanced more than 4%, to roughly $104.40 a barrel after Saudi Arabia closed a key pipeline that bypasses the Strait of Hormuz. The 10-year Treasury yield edged higher to 4.98%. Also, bitcoin rose to roughly $77,600.
Among exchange traded funds, the Invesco QQQ (QQQ) was down 1.8%, as the State Street SPDR S&P 500 (SPY) fell 0.7% before Monday's opening bell.
