Jets quarterback Geno Smith will make his first start of the 2026 preseason Friday night against the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Smith missed the Jets' preseason opener against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers with a minor ankle injury.
Aaron Glenn gave his healthy starters a series in that first exhibition game and indicated that the starters would also see action in Pittsburgh. It wasn't clear Smith would be among those suiting up due to the ankle injury. It wouldn't make sense to put the quarterback on the field if he was anything less than 100 percent. The team still has a long time to go before its first regular season game. While these reps can be helpful, there is still another preseason game in a week where Geno could see time.
But since he is ready, this is a chance to work with his receivers to try and get their timing down and build chemistry.

Manchester City host Bournemouth on Sunday as they kick off their first Premier League season in a decade without Pep Guardiola in charge.
Enzo Maresca is tasked with delivering trophies at City and his new-look side have had a tough preseason as plenty of experienced, crucial players (Rodri, John Stones, Bernardo Silva) have moved on. Their 3-0 defeat to ******* nal in the Community Shield last weekend was also very worrying. Still, having Erling Haaland and plenty of other superstars around is very helpful for Maresca and City will still be right up there.
It has been all change at Bournemouth this summer too with Marco Rose replacing Andoni Iraola as head coach, as the Cherries prepare for their first-ever season in Europe. It will be intriguing to see how Bournemouth's relatively small squad juggles the Thursday-Sunday grind.
Here's everything you need for Manchester City vs Bournemouth.
Kick off time: 9am ET Sunday (August 23)

Week 2 of the preseason marks a pivotal point in the backup quarterback battle for the Los Angeles Rams, as Stetson Bennett and Ty Simpson look to put on a show against the New Orleans Saints in a joint practice and in Saturday's game.
Bennett started the preseason opener in Kansas City, but Simpson dominated headlines with an efficient, effective performance that saw the Rams pull away in the fourth quarter. When asked on Monday, head coach Sean McVay stated that the joint practice would determine what this week's quarterback rotation will look like when the Rams make their 2026 SoFi Stadium debut.
"I think that will be predicated on how the practice against New Orleans goes, how tomorrow goes," said McVay. "I think what's been helpful for us is really just taking it a day at a time. I know I get myself out of whack when I get too far ahead of myself. We ask our players to stack days, be totally and completely present. I have not made that decision yet and genuinely, that is the truth.
"A large part of that decision will be predicated on what happens on Tuesday and then a lot of it, especially with what happens on Thursday. I'm hopeful that we're able to get as many reps as we did against Dallas. New Orleans has a practice against the Cowboys on Tuesday. Hopefully they come out of that thing healthy and we're able to get what Kellen [Moore] and I have talked about as the workload for our ones and twos. That'll be great situational work and great ability to be able to move the ball all over the field."
In Kansas City, Bennett played the first quarter, with Simpson finishing out the game. Starting quarterback Matthew Stafford is expected to participate in the joint practice, as well, which will push Bennett to the second team and Simpson potentially out of the rotation again.

Aug. 26 is going to be a very important day in the stock market, with perhaps the most anticipated earnings report of Q2: Nvidia's (NASDAQ: NVDA). This earnings season has seen a lot of wild share price movements following reports, and I expect Nvidia's to be no different. However, after looking at historical trends, I think there's a good chance for a move in the right direction.
But how can investors come to the conclusion that Nvidia's Q2 report will result in a stock pop? By looking at where the stock has been at this point in previous years.
Missed Nvidia in 2009? This Rare Signal Is Flashing Again. In 2009, a "Double Down" signal flashed for a little-known chipmaker called Nvidia. For the first time in years, that same "Total Conviction" signal is flashing for a company 1/100th the size of Nvidia. Continue »
Nvidia is a far different company now than it was at any previous point during its lifecycle, so looking at its data five to ten years back isn't really helpful. Instead, I think investors should focus on where the stock was at this time in 2024 and 2025, as that is the best comparison investors have.
Prior to Q2 results being reported at the end of August 2024, this is how the stock was valued from a forward earnings standpoint.

The conversation around trans athletes and the WNBA has broken containment as former NBA athletes turned conservative media characters Enes Kanter and Royce White step in with a publicity stunt to attempt to play in the women's league.
Gender politics suddenly took over WNBA news last month when Indiana Fever forward Sophie Cunningham shared her desire to keep transgender women out of women's sports locker rooms in a profile at ESPN. While Cunningham's initial comments centered on youth sports, others quickly took the baton to weave a story around how the WNBA itself could be overtaken by transgender women.
Since Kanter and White's ****** ouncements, right-wing commentators have expressed glee toward the pair's efforts to undermine WNBA rules regarding who can compete in its league. But this week, former ESPN ****** yst Ryan Clark had some choice words for them in a recent video for his podcast, The Pivot.
"If we are men, and as former athletes, and we understand how hard it is to get respect in the game, don't make a mockery about what these women are going through. Don't make jokes about things you'll never understand," he said.
"Stay out of it. If you don't have some input, either right or wrong, that could be impactful or helpful, let these people be. Because dudes who could never play who want to make jokes about something that is incredibly serious are absolute clowns."

After squeaking out an important series win against the Cleveland Guardians this past weekend, the South Siders look to carry that momentum into a new three-game set against the Cincinnati Reds. Ideally, the Sox can take care of business while holding down first place as the Detroit Tigers and the Guardians bat each other up over the next few days.
The good news is that on top of the wizardry that Mike Vasil contributes to the team, the Good Guys can channel the Pope and those powers-that-be, as 38,000+ fans in attendance on the South Side will be sporting a "Pope hat" from tonight's giveaway.
Standing room only at Sox Park? All for this glorious hat:
The South Siders have their ace on the mound, as righthander Sean Burke makes his 20th start of the season. Burke ranks 15th in baseball with 144 strikeouts while holding a 27.4% strikeout rate, ranking in the 81st percentile among MLB pitchers. Burke's excellent extension while walking batters at a lower rate (7.4%) has helped maintain his dominance over the last several starts. In his last seven games, he's posted an excellent 1.74 ERA across 41 1/3 frames with just a 0.92 WHIP, striking out 57 against just nine walks. The White Sox rank last in innings pitched for starting pitchers, so Burke going at least six innings in five of his last six starts has been helpful to keep a struggling offense in games.
With a lefty on the mound against the South Siders, Will Venable is calling on his right-handed hitters to hold it down at the plate tonight. Chase Meidroth is getting a second consecutive day of rest, so Sam Antonacci will slot in at second base, with Randal Grichuk batting cleanup and playing left. Colson Montgomery is also getting an off-day in the field, locking in as the DH with Luisangel Acuña subbing in at shortstop. Brenton Doyle will also continue to lead off with Meidroth out, and he wasn't too shabby the other day, even tallying a couple of hits on Sunday with a stolen base and run scored.

The financial boosters and backers of the artificial intelligence industry like to argue that, for better or worse, the ubiquity of AI-generated content is inevitable in the near future.
For all of us living in the world of their making, we know 1) it's basically been for the worse and 2) it doesn't have to be inevitable.
There are probably some uses for AI that are helpful in some capacity, but for many of us, our experience with the big plagiarism computers is seeing them used as… big plagiarism computers.
Take the case of Phil Steele's annual college football preview. The preseason magazine has been published since 1995 and is a foundational text for anyone covering the sport year after year. Before the advent of our glorious AI-driven future, when you bought a book ****** led Phil Steele's College Football Preview, you could feel confident that you were purchasing a preview of the coming college football season written by Phil Steele. That is simply no longer the case.
As Steele laid out on his site, there are several books on Amazon using his name to sell what appear to be AI slop knockoffs of his work.

Andoni Iraola still has a lot of work to do to his team.
The Spaniard may have already welcomed three new players to his ranks but, with how poor Liverpool were last term, they need more than just three players adding to their ranks.
Their attack and defence need a complete revamp and, while Jeremy Jacquet and Ronald Araujo will certainly help them do that, another player who could play anywhere across the back four would be helpful.
Of course, that's a lot to ask for in a player these days but, since Joe Gomez is so injury **** e, it's clear that Liverpool need a replacement for him too.
Despite their defence needing tonnes of work, their attacking line could also do with another new signing or two as well.

Tucker Carlson admitted to feeling regret for going after Hunter Biden on his shows for years.
In a two-hour conversation with Joe Biden's son on "The Tucker Carlson Show," the host reflected on the finger-pointing he did on his show on more than one occasion. In particular, Carlson felt badly for repeatedly calling out Biden while the former first son was struggling with addiction, saying "finger-pointing is unhelpful, except when we point fingers at ourselves."
"It's very important to say — that's kind of what I was inarticulately trying to express to you, which is like, it gets the rest of us off the hook to point to one guy and be like, 'It's all his fault. It's like actually, it's all of our fault, including mine,'" Carlson said. "And I, you know, famously advocated for the Iraq War, and thought that was the last stupid thing I was ever going to do. Turns out it wasn't. I advocated for all kinds of things that I now regret advocating for."
Biden jumped in to quip: "Particularly the things that you said about me."
"Deep regret," Carlson responded. "No, I do actually. I mean, I regret in the sense that, as someone who has dealt with addiction, not quite as in an exciting way as you did, but I've been there for sure. You know, extending grace to people who are out of their minds. You would think I would do that. I should have done that more. I do regret that."

That's because they're more heavily influenced by economic conditions, not policy rates. Long-term yields reflect inflation expectations, risk premiums, government debt levels, and the direction of the U.S. economy. In other words, many moving parts are involved in pricing long bonds.
With markets anticipating rate hikes later this year, it can be helpful to look at what the Fed has done over the past few years and how the bond market has responded. Understanding this could help investors stay on the right side of whatever happens next.

Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has responded to India wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant's public appeal for help in acquiring land in his home state, ***** uring the cricketer that the government will extend all possible ***** istance in accordance with the rules.

Pant, who is currently in Sri Lanka with the Indian team ahead of the two-Test series, had taken to social media platform X in the early hours of Saturday to seek the chief minister's intervention after struggling to purchase land in Uttarakhand for nearly three years.
In a heartfelt post, the 28-year-old revealed his desire to move his base from Delhi to Uttarakhand and build his first home in the state where his roots lie. Pant said that despite searching for suitable land for the past three years, he had been unable to find a property that met his requirements.

"pushkardhami ***** o sir how's you ??? It's a long time for me especially being local from Uttrakhand . NEW DELHI: India wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant made a rather unusual public appeal in the early hours of Saturday, directly requesting Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami to help him acquire land in the state so he can shift his base from Delhi and build his first home in his native state.

Pant, who is currently in Sri Lanka with the Indian team for the two-match Test series, took to social media platform X to make the request, tagging Dhami in a lengthy post. The 28-year-old said he had been trying to find suitable land in Uttarakhand for the past three years but had struggled to find a property that could meet his requirements.

More importantly, Pant made it clear that he wanted to return to his roots and contribute to the state after years of representing India on the international stage.

"pushkardhami ***** o sir how's you ??? It's a long time for me especially being local from Uttrakhand . I have been trying to buy land to shift my base from Delhi to Uttrakhand and I couldn't find anything facilitating and big to live here I love my Uttrakhand. Pant followed it up by clarifying that he was not asking for land as a free gift, but wanted to purchase it from the government at the applicable rates.

"A gift would be lovey for representation out states at the highest level internationally stages but if you allow me I wanna buy it fromGovernment and on there rates at least I can have my first house built in my own state and our state please be helpful. Seriously didn't know how to do it," he further wrote.

The posts quickly went viral, with Pant's unusual request drawing significant attention on social media.
Pant was born in Roorkee in Uttarakhand's Haridwar district and began his cricketing journey there before moving to Delhi to pursue the sport professionally. He eventually established himself as one of India's premier wicketkeeper-batters across formats.

Although Pant continues to represent Delhi in domestic cricket, he has repeatedly maintained a strong connection with Uttarakhand. His latest posts underline his desire to eventually make the state his home and contribute to its development.

His appeal also comes just days after Pant emerged as Uttarakhand's highest individual taxpayer for the 2025-26 financial year, having reportedly paid Rs 23.84 crore in income tax.

The figures were announced by the Chief Commissioner of Income Tax, Uttarakhand, during an event marking Income Tax Day on July 24. Pant topped the list of individual taxpayer

The Green Bay Packers' preseason-opening showdown with the Pittsburgh Steelers may include an unexpected number of snaps against former Packers quarterback and future Pro Football Hall of Famer Aaron Rodgers.
While Rodgers hasn't played more than a handful of snaps in the preseason over the last 10 years, new Steelers (and former Packers) coach Mike McCarthy wants Rodgers on the field playing snaps during the exhibition schedule this summer. And the 42-year-old quarterback is open to the idea.
"He (wants me out there for) 30 or 40 plays," Rodgers told Mike Silver of The Athletic. "I said, 'Mike, if you want me to play, I'll play.' I'm not saying I want to do it. But if he wants me to, I will."
The Steelers open the preseason against the Packers on Thursday, Aug. 13 and the New York Jets on Friday, Aug. 21, so Rodgers will likely play snaps against both of his former teams.
The last time Rodgers played more than 10 snaps in the preseason was 2017, and he hasn't played at least 30 preseason snaps since 2014. While getting in some snaps could be helpful for a quarterback reconnecting with an old offense, there is a risk of injury for an old quarterback entering a final season.

For most retirees, their biggest concern is the size of their nest egg. Having enough money to live comfortably and not outlive your savings is probably a top priority. But the question about how much money you need to save hinges on another, perhaps equally important question: How much do you plan to spend?
After all, your annual budget determines the "magic number" you need to target. And for a better idea of what your retirement budget could look like, it's helpful to consider the budget of a typical retiree.

It's not officially official, but it sounds like Detroit Tigers ace Tarik Skubal is going to be dealt by the end of the 2026 MLB trade deadline. And that makes all the sense in the world for everyone -- the Tigers don't look like World Series contenders and they're not going to give the left-hander the kind of massive long-term contract he's earned.
So who could land the two-time Cy Young winner who currently sports a 2.79 ERA with 116 Ks in 96.2 innings? That's the question we all want to know the answer to as the bidding heats up. Let's run through some names of teams who would love to add Skubal and instantly change their fortunes with a top starting pitcher:
You could roll your eyes at the fact that the Dodgers are reportedly in yet again on a big name, but it makes sense -- Shohei Ohtani may not pitch for a while and their rotation isn't the strongest at the moment. Plus, they've got a ton of big-name prospects to deal to the Tigers.
Another team with a lot of intriguing prospects and young pitching talent... but there's risk there if the Brew Crew doesn't win a World Series with Skubal and he leaves in free agency.
Feels like they've got a playoff spot on lock, so getting Skubal would be helpful for the postseason.

WS Amati Global Innovation Fund, managed by a UK-based equity management firm from AMAti Global Investors, released its second quarter 2026 investor letter. A copy of the letter is available to download here. Financial market performance in the second quarter was dominated by geopolitical conflict and enthusiasm for AI. Significant investments across all elements of AI resulted in exceptional growth for related companies, ranging from chip producers to companies constructing data centres. The fund outperformed the MSCI ACWI benchmark due to its diversified exposure beyond headline AI firms, with semiconductor and equipment suppliers being major contributors. At the same time, software and IT services faced investor skepticism due to fears of automation despite long-term potential. The firm is confident in the innovation frontiers to capture long-term growth opportunities in automation, semiconductors, and advanced technologies. In addition, please check the Strategy's top five holdings to know its best picks in 2026.
In its Q2 2026 investor letter, WS Amati Global Innovation Fund highlighted MKS Inc. (NASDAQ:MKSI) as a notable contributor. MKS Inc. (NASDAQ:MKSI) is a leading technology company that offers advanced foundational technology solutions to semiconductor manufacturing, electronics and packaging, and specialty industrial applications. On July 24, 2026, MKS Inc. (NASDAQ:MKSI) closed at $329.18 per share, reflecting a market capitalization of $22.23 billion. MKS Inc. (NASDAQ:MKSI) posted a one-month return of -20.87%, while its shares gained 221.68% over the past 52 weeks.
WS Amati Global Innovation Fund stated the following regarding MKS Inc. (NASDAQ:MKSI) in its Q2 2026 investor update:
"The broadening of interest away from the highly concentrated AI headline companies, such as Nvidia, proved to be a helpful environment for the Fund, providing a period of material outperformance against the MSCI ACWI benchmark. Our four top contributors were all caught up in the excitement to some extent, with three being semiconductor producers and one being an equipment supplier into that industry. The latter,MKS Inc. (NASDAQ:MKSI), provided the biggest single boost to the Fund's returns and is a notable beneficiary of innovation in the design of modern chips. Rather than single layers of tiny transistors, many modern chips have multiple layers like a wafer biscuit, and electrons need to travel up and down through these layers. MKS' products help to make this possible. AI's insatiable appetite for memory, particularly High Band Memory (HBM), has created a wave of greater demand for the chips which MKS helps to create."

Well this is a peculiar first move for trade deadline season. Jake Rogers, the longest tenured Detroit Tigers player, has been designated for ***** ignment. Eduardo Valencia was recalled on Sunday and will be taking over the backup catcher duties. Rogers' roster spot will go to Javier Báez, who returns from a three-month absence after suffering a high ankle sprain at the end of April.
The 31-year-old Rogers made his major league debut with the Tigers back on July 30, 2019 after coming to the Tigers in the trade that sent Justin Verlander to the Houston Astros in August of 2017. He finally became the Tigers primary catcher in 2021 before tearing his UCL and requiring reconstruction surgery that cost him all of the 2022 season. In 2023 and 2024 Rogers put together good seasons based around his defensive ability, plate discipline, and the occasional burst of home run power. He was worth 4.7 fWAR across those two years, but since that point his offensive contributions collapsed as Dillon Dingler took over the everyday catching role. This season, Rogers' defense finally showed real signs of cracking as well. He's hitting .161/.266/.301 for a 60 wRC+ which ranks him 48th out of 59 catchers with 100 plate appearances or more this season.
Despite his struggles, two part-time White Sox catchers, and numerous others, are even worse offensive players than Rogers. It won't be a surprise if he gets claimed, but it's too bad no one would flip a lottery ticket prospect to acquire him. The problem is that Rogers defensive numbers have declined this year and he's finally grading out a little below average as a defender. Whether that's partly the result of lack of playing time is hard to say, but hopefully he'll be claimed somewhere. If he clears waivers and is outrighted the Tigers will still be on the hook for the rest of his $3.05M salary for 2026.
Valencia is far and away a better hitter than Rogers, so that should provide a little support to the offense. On the other hand, Valencia isn't that good behind the plate, particularly in terms of holding opponents' running game in check. Still with Rogers defensive numbers in decline, perhaps Valencia won't do worse.
Getting Báez back could be pretty helpful to the Tigers although it's just funny to look at Báez as a way to trim strikeouts in the lineup by taking over some of the workload from James Outman. It will be interesting to see how he's deployed. With Kerry Carpenter out with a foot injury, the outfield needs help. It needed help anyway. We'll see if Báez is back to full speed and can get back to playing a solid enough center field. If he's back to 100 percent, that also gives the Tigers options, with Báez getting some time at shortstop and around the infield to get another right-handed bat into the lineup. Either way, it's good to have Javy Báez back, and hopefully further support for the outfield isn't too far away as Max Clark will be available to be called up without spoiling his 2027 rookie eligibi

TAMPA, Fla. (AP) — As it turns out, even Lane Kiffin likes the so-called “Lane Kiffin Rule” — a Congressionally proposed provision that would fix the longstanding problem of college coaches bailing on their teams while the season is still going.
The lightning-rod LSU coach took his turn Thursday at SEC Media Days, where he ate up more than 16 of his 25 minutes behind the mic delivering an opening statement that included the revelation that he's given up social media.
He then fielded four questions, the last of which was whether he felt he got a bad rap for his much-discussed and widely criticized move from Ole Miss to LSU at the end of last season. That transaction made him the namesake for part of a Senate bill that would forbid in-season moves from school to school.
Without getting into what people thought of him, he said he did think the rule could be helpful.
“I guess (so), in that I hope that some way for future coaches, they’re not put in that situation,” Kiffin said. “In the NFL, you’re never put in that situation because of the calendar and because of the rules of movement within seasons. I do hope for future people that’s fixed so that you’re not in that same predicament.”

The initial deal behind the American AI boom seems to be: private investors would help finance it, taking on the risk; private companies would initially own the benefits of the breakthroughs, then distribute them to public markets later; and the government would help regulate the industry after the fact. In China, by contrast, the deal is that companies still have to compete for investment and customers, while the government provides the compute.
That bargain is showing signs of collapse — on the U.S. side. As costs soar, Chinese competitors gain ground and Washington increasingly considers AI to be a national-security **** et, President Donald Trump is considering taking a governmental stake into AI companies. While both the populist left and the right, and the AI companies themselves, have lauded the proposal, one person isn't cheering: Billionaire Michael Bloomberg.
In an opinion column published in Bloomberg Opinion on Monday, the media company's founder attacked the proposal, arguing that it would turn Washington from an industry regulator into an investor with incentives for profit, leading to "cronyism."
"Somewhere, Karl Marx is smiling," Bloomberg wrote of the centrally planned economy on offer, while the propaganda possibilities would "make George Orwell blush."
The former New York City mayor argued that Americans do not need their governments to own AI companies in order to share in the technology's gains. For one, once they go public, they could just buy shares. But also, consumers and businesses already benefit from AI through fraud detection, medical research, bookkeeping and other helpful applications, he wrote, while the resulting economic growth could eventually generate more tax revenue for public services.

Sen. John Fetterman (D-Pa.) on Sunday said President Trump could "do something positive" instead of talking about the 2020 presidential election, clapping at the president's primetime speech on Thursday about election security.
"I don't know why the president is dragging up all this stuff," Fetterman told CNN's Jake Tapper on "State of the Union." "You're the president. Do something positive, and you are talking about 2020. That's been settled over six years ago. It's deeply unhelpful and that distracts important things, especially like the Iranian war right now."
On Thursday, Trump said recently declassified documents suggest China interfered in the 2020 presidential election by acquiring more than 200 million U.S. voter files. A 2021 report from the intelligence community about foreign threats to the 2020 elections concluded with "high confidence" that China did not interfere in the election but did take steps to try to undermine Trump's reelection.
Fetterman, who was Pennsylvania's lieutenant governor at the time, said the 2020 presidential election was "absolutely secure, fair and accurate."
"That was the voice of Pennsylvania, and they picked Joe Biden in 2020, that's a fact," Fetterman said. "… Now, until I see evidence that over 25 million migrants that … voted or registered to vote, then yeah, that would make me reconsider some of these things. But there's no evidence, and I don't expect that we'll see any of that."

Now is a good point in the year to not lose focus on the long-term prize.
Quick insight: With Wall Street trading desks light, summer vacations in full swing, and fears of Fed rate hikes swirling, stocks have come under pressure — especially the tech-heavy Nasdaq Composite (^IXIC).
But a well-timed note from the Goldman Sachs team offers a bit of helpful perspective.
Goldman noted that the S&P 500 (^GSPC) is up 95% since the end of 2022, placing the current bull market in the strongest 10% at this stage of the cycle, based on data going back to 1928.
By comparison, the top 25% of historical bull markets gained about 50% over the same period, and the median bull market delivered just 35% after three-and-a-half years. Since the April 2025 low, the S&P 500 has surged 51%.

Justin Theroux ordered custom-made scrubs to wear to the hospital for his son's birth.
During an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live! on Thursday, guest host Ike Barinholtz asked his Running Point co-star about the arrival of his first child.
Justin and his wife, actress Nicole Brydon Bloom, tied the knot in March 2025 and welcomed their son - whose name has not yet been announced - in April.
"It's the best," he said of fatherhood, before reflecting on preparing for the birth. "I think I was very helpful, in the whole process. My wife was incredibly helpful... She was great in the setup of it... we had our go bags, all that stuff. I was more worried about, sort of, what I was going to wear."
The Leftovers star went on to recall how he decided to wear scrubs while Nicole was giving birth.
"I mean, in all seriousness, it's not about me. So, I went ahead and I Googled and I got these scrubs (from FIGS Scrubs). I had scrubs made with my name on it and I had the little cap like Noah Wyle wears in (HBO hospital drama) The Pitt. I just wanted to blend in; I didn't want to make this about me. So, I wore the outfit," the 54-year-old recounted.

Jul. 13—WARDEN — Soren Clausen was announced as part of the Washington Interscholastic Athletic ****** ociation's Leadership through Education Activities and Personal Development Committee Class of 2028 on Monday. Clausen said this opportunity has him excited to put his best foot forward in his new position.
"In my next two years on the LEAP Committee, I hope to provide a new point of view, being from a small town and school like Warden," he said. "I'm actually the first student from Warden High School to serve on the Committee since it began in 2009. Having such a small and close-knit school is really helpful because it is easy to talk to and get feedback from a lot of students and parents who are affected by decisions of the WIAA."
His journey to becoming part of the LEAP committee began when the Warden Athletic Director Grag Lucas encouraged Clausen to apply for the position. Clausen said the support from Lucas and his ASB Advisor Prisma Corrales motivated him to pursue the opportunity.
He said both Lucas and Corrales believed he would make a strong team member if he was selected. After doing some of his own research into the committee, Clausen realized that he aligned well with the program's ideals and principles.
The application process came in three parts as he had to fill out a couple of essay questions, submit a letter of recommendation and create a personal video on himself. Working on this video proved to be one of the most unique parts of this experience, he said.
