Schwab, Fidelity, and Vanguard each have different default beneficiary clauses, so a blank IRA form can send your account to your kids or your estate.
An estate inheriting an IRA triggers a 5-year withdrawal rule instead of 10, costing heirs an extra $2,430 in federal tax per child before state taxes.
Naming primary and contingent beneficiaries on every account, including Roth IRAs, and re-filing after any rollover or divorce takes about ten minutes.

Picture two widowed parents. Each leaves a $600,000 traditional IRA to two grown kids, and neither one ever filled out a beneficiary form. One family gets a decade to draw the money down on its own schedule. The other gets five years, a probate filing and a faster tax bill.

Silver prices could be approaching their final low, according to veteran trader Peter Brandt. However, he expects any subsequent recovery to be gradual rather than explosive.
The precious metal traded at $53.18 per ounce on Thursday, up 1.76% on the day. That still leaves it about 56% below its January record of $121.74.
On X, Brandt said two versions of his chart, weekly and daily, both show a falling wedge.
The pattern forms when prices slide between two downward-sloping lines that slowly converge. Chart **** ysts often read it as a sign that selling pressure is fading.

Apple stock bought at $25.02 in 2016 now sits at $352.64, leaving a $92,905 embedded gain inside a $100,000 position.
A single filer with zero 2026 income can sell up to $65,550 of long-term gains at 0% federal tax by combining the standard deduction and the 0% bracket.
The gift strategy beats inheritance outright only when the embedded gain is $65,550 or less, with the crossover basis sitting at $34,450 on a $100,000 position.
At the national average savings rate, $40,000 earns about $150 a year. In one of today's top-rated high-yield accounts, the same balance earns $1,200 or more. See the current best rates, side by side.
A 66-year-old widow bought shares of Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL) in November 2016 at a split-adjusted $25.02. Ten years later the stock trades at $352.64, a 1309.61% gain. Her position is now worth $100,000.

An expert has broken down Queen Camilla's beach clean-up moment with King Charles on their Caribbean tour. She arrived over the weekend to join her husband for the final leg in Antigua and Barbuda on November 1, 2026. The monarch began the nine-day tour on his own on October 27, 2026, covering the Bahamas and Guyana before the final leg.
An expert has observed that Queen Camilla looked "uncomfortable" while helping clear a beach in Antigua, even blurting out a quick four-word warning to dodge a painful slip-up. King Charles and Queen Camilla joined local volunteers on the sands of Fort James Beach for the environmental initiative. The Queen opted to take off her shoes and walk barefoot to navigate the shoreline during the task.
However, per the Daily Express, lip-reading specialist Nicola Hickling has warned that walking shoeless amid a busy royal party carries its own risks. On examining the arrival footage, she remarked that Camilla's face was "worth watching here." The comment came as the royal made her way over the sand alongside her husband.
Hickling told the outlet that the Queen looked "slightly uncomfortable" as she abruptly moved away from King Charles. It was "possibly to avoid having her toes trodden on." Amid the clumsy shift, Her Majesty reportedly uttered the striking four-word line: "I must go easy."
The moment, however, passed without incident, and the couple carried on cheerfully. They even playfully crossed their litter pickers like swords, then took turns placing collected rubbish into a black bag. After that, the royal pair listened to Jennifer Meranto, founder and chief executive of Adopt a Coastline. She outlined the crucial effort to safeguard the island's shore. Two of the group's youth ambassadors joined Meranto for the briefing.

The maximum 2026 Social Security benefit is $5,181/month, requiring 35+ years earning at or above the $184,500 wage cap and claiming at 70.
Most workers can't hit the wage cap, but delaying Social Security to 70 and boosting salary through job-hopping raises your benefit meaningfully.
Combining a $2,500 monthly Social Security benefit with $32,000 in annual IRA or 401(k) withdrawals can match the maximum benefit's $62,000 yearly income.
Building a portfolio and living off one are two completely different skills, and almost ******* ody teaches the second. This problem is what The Definitive Guide to Retirement Income helps, and it is free today. Read more here. (Sponsor)
The typical retiree who receives Social Security benefits gets about $2,088 per month. On an annual basis, that's about $25,000.

Chris Sullivan shocked former "This Is Us" co-stars Mandy Moore and Sterling K. Brown with a confession about his "biggest" role to date: the GEICO "Hump Day" camel.
During Tuesday's episode of the "That Was Us" podcast, Sullivan told his co-hosts that the insurance company had decided to bring back his commercial, in which he voiced a camel declaring it's "Hump Day" over and over again.
"They brought my commercial, back by the way. Hump Day," he noted after Wednesday being called "Hump Day" was mentioned by his peers.
"What?" a genuinely confused Moore asked, prompting Sullivan to say, "You know I'm the GEICO camel?"
"You're what? You're the GEICO camel?" the "Candy" singer responded in disbelief. At this moment, Brown admitted this was news to him too, noting, "You know what? I don't think I knew that either, but like now that you say it."

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry might spend their Christmas in the UK. According to a report, the Sussexes' holiday plans are seemingly still unconfirmed. Earlier, it was reported that they would fly to Montecito, California, to spend Christmas with Markle's mother, Doria Ragland. Now, Prince Harry and his family might not leave, but stay and celebrate in Britain after eight years.
Meghan Markle and Prince Harry's Christmas plans allegedly include Doria Ragland but not California. A **** o! Magazine report recently claimed the Sussexes would celebrate the holidays with Markle's mother. However, they might not fly to Montecito as originally reported.
Furthermore, the outlet suggested Markle would be busy with her brand this festive season. The As Ever's holiday collection seemed to be her priority, and royal fans would reportedly be expecting the Sussexes' Christmas card reveal. Although their plan seemed to be unconfirmed, one thing is said to be sure: they won't celebrate the holidays with the royal family.
Despite staying in the UK, Markle and Harry might not spend their Christmas at a royal event. Earlier, a Closer report claimed the Duke allegedly tried to convince his wife to join King Charles' celebration if invited. But Markle won't reportedly "budge," according to a source. They said, "She cannot bear the idea of struggling through a phony Christmas with the royal family. She's going home, and Harry has agreed to it to make her happy – but he did it with a heavy heart."
Meanwhile, another report by The Times (via **** o!) claimed the royal family might not even invite the Sussexes. "How could that even work? They know it would be too awkward and too difficult. They also know they're not going to be invited, and they're not waiting for an invitation," an insider stated.

Bad news for "Star Wars" fans: Adam Driver is squashing any possibility of returning as Kylo Ren to the galaxy.
On a recent episode of "The Rich Eisen Show," Eisen asked Driver if he thought he'd ever play the villain in the franchise again. The "Girls" actor responded: 'Yeah, it's over… No more 'Star Wars.'" We "tried to do one more," said Driver "but they're like, 'No, he's dead,'" referring to Disney studio executives Bob Iger and Alan Bergman, who rejected a screenplay for a standalone movie centered on Kylo Ren that he'd pitched with Steven Soderbergh.

A $310,000 taxable gain from selling an S&P 500 fund pushes a single filer's MAGI to $390,000, triggering $6,355 in annual Medicare IRMAA surcharges two years later.
Selling all at once costs $13,575 in combined surcharges and investment taxes, which is cheaper than splitting the sale over two or three years due to compounding IRMAA brackets.
Rebalancing stocks to bonds inside a traditional or Roth IRA avoids MAGI impact entirely, since those trades never appear on Form 1040.
Building a portfolio and living off one are two completely different skills, and almost ****** ody teaches the second. This problem is what The Definitive Guide to Retirement Income helps, and it is free today. Read more here. (Sponsor)
Consider a hypothetical 68-year-old who bought an S&P 500 index fund in a taxable brokerage account in 1996. He now wants less stock risk and plans to sell and move into bonds. The 10-year Treasury yielded 4.91% on November 2, so the switch looks reasonable. For a sense of scale, the SPDR S&P 500 ETF Trust (NYSEARCA:SPY) has risen 466.8% in price since November 1999 alone.

"The real problem is the growing size of global debt, especially the USA, the incompetence of our leaders to do what really needs to be done, an education that teaches nothing, zero, nada about money," he wrote.

A $900,000 traditional 401(k) left to heirs yields roughly $684,000 after taxes, while a Roth passes the full $900,000 income-tax-free.
Heirs must empty inherited accounts within 10 years, potentially pushing a child earning $150,000 into the 32% or higher tax bracket.
Converting gradually during low-income retirement years keeps taxes in the 22 to 24 percent brackets and avoids Medicare surcharges above $218,000 in joint income.
The biggest 401k decisions tend to get made once and never revisited: when to roll it over, what to hold inside it, and when to start taking money out. That is exactly what the report: 401k & IRA Tips and Answers was created to address, and it is free today. Read more here. (Sponsor)

A $450,000 IRA withdrawal to buy a condo counts as taxable income, pushing a couple's MAGI to $550,000 and triggering $12,710 in extra Medicare premiums for 2028.
Social Security sets IRMAA using tax returns from two years prior, so a 2026 withdrawal raises 2028 premiums and Form SSA-44 offers no relief for voluntary withdrawals.
Spreading IRA withdrawals over four years at $112,500 annually keeps MAGI below the surcharge threshold, while splitting across just two years saves almost nothing.

Two years from now, Social Security will send each of them a letter with a Medicare bill neither one planned for.

When a whole life policy lapses with an unpaid loan, the IRS taxes the entire loan-wiped-against-cash-value gain as ordinary income, even if you received no money.
Carol's $110,000 loan against $60,000 in premiums creates $50,000 of phantom taxable income, costing roughly $11,086 in federal taxes plus up to $1,148 more in Medicare premiums.
Keeping the policy in force until death avoids the tax bill entirely, since death benefits pay off the loan without generating a 1099-R.

As soon as Republican Sen. Darline Graham won the GOP nomination to replace her late brother in August, Democrat Annie Andrews made her move.
Andrews immediately began spending more than $5 million on advertising in South Carolina’s Senate race at a moment when she largely had the airwaves to herself as her new opponent struggled to raise money. At the time, Republicans were racing to prioritize other competitive races across the country — and most people in both parties still saw South Carolina as a pipe dream for Democrats.
But by October, when the rest of the country began tuning into South Carolina — and spending money — Andrews quietly became the frontrunner, according to internal campaign details shared with Semafor following her victory on Tuesday.

Medicare's two-year lookback rule means a retiree's $120,000 annual 401(k) withdrawals at 63 and 64 set his Part B premiums at 65 and 66.
A $120,000 withdrawal pushes a single filer $11,000 over the IRMAA threshold, raising Part B premiums to $284.10 monthly and costing roughly $2,297 extra over two years.
Covering part of living expenses with cash savings or qualified Roth withdrawals instead of 401(k) funds can keep reported MAGI below the surcharge threshold entirely.

Space Exploration Technologies (NASDAQ: SPCX) has had a rocky start to life as a public company. After reaching an all-time high of $226 within days following its June debut, ******* eX shares have fallen roughly 38%, even as Elon Musk's aerospace and artificial intelligence (AI) company reported impressive financial results.
However, an upcoming event may give investors a new reason to reconsider ******* eX's long-term potential. On Nov. 6, Baron Capital will host its 33rd annual investment conference in New York City, where billionaire mutual fund investor Ron Baron will interview Musk during a fireside chat.
Missed AI's "Act 1"? Act 2 Could Be 16x Bigger. Most investors think they missed the AI boat because they didn't buy Nvidia in 2005. But according to our ******* ysts, we're only at the end of "Act 1"—the R&D phase. "Act 2" is the global rollout. Continue »
The conversation could be interesting because Baron has been one of Musk's most enthusiastic supporters for more than a decade. My prediction is this conversation could send ******* eX stock soaring.
Baron's relationship with Musk dates back to Tesla's (NASDAQ: TSLA) initial public offering in 2010. A married couple over 65 with no other income can withdraw $47,500 from a 401(k) in 2026 and owe $0 in federal tax.
Three stacked deductions fully offset the $47,500 withdrawal: a $32,200 standard deduction, a $3,300 age add-on, and a new $12,000 senior deduction.
The zero-tax math breaks once Social Security begins, as benefits start becoming taxable when combined income exceeds $32,000 for joint filers.

The D.C. government and the commonwealth of Virginia sued Saturday to block construction of President Donald Trump’s planned triumphal arch, calling it a “flagrantly unlawful” project that will forever change the landscape of the nation’s capital.
The lawsuit is the latest attempt to stop the 250-foot-tall arch, which Trump hopes to build near Arlington National Cemetery and says will commemorate the nation’s 250th birthday. The administration would like to begin construction as soon as next week.
The two jurisdictions are asking a federal judge to halt the plan and argue that they have “indisputable standing” to bring their lawsuit because the towering arch would have tangible, negative effects on the region — an argument that distinguishes their lawsuit from others that have tried to stop Trump’s construction projects.
D.C. Attorney General Brian Schwalb (D) said the arch construction would cause “serious, immediate and irreparable harm to the District and its residents,” while Virginia Attorney General Jay Jones (D) said “Trump’s illegal vanity project” would be an affront to Arlington National Cemetery and the “extraordinary sacrifices it represents.”
“The Commonwealth has a solemn duty and a profound interest in preserving the dignity of this sacred place,” Jones said in a statement. “We will vigorously litigate to protect its sanctity and honor the legacy of those who made the ultimate sacrifice.”

AUSTIN - Mississippi State will show a new face at quarterback when the Bulldogs come to town for a game that Steve Sarkisian and Texas hope replicates last season when the Longhorns won seven of their last eight games.
The Bulldogs started the season at 4-0 and beat teams like Missouri and Minnesota with flashy new quarterback Kamario Taylor before losing three straight, but the dynamic playmaker was lost for the season when he underwent surgery this week for an injured toe.
So the 11th-ranked Longhorns (5-2, 2-2 in SEC) will see either athletic redshirt freshman Billy Puckett or Appalachian State transfer A.J. Swan, who had 12 starts in two years at Vanderbilt and six more at App State, when Mississippi State (4-3, 2-3 SEC) and Texas kick off at 6:30 Saturday night.
BOHLS: Nine things and one crazy prediction
Puckett has completed 66% of his passes with one touchdown and two picks and can make full use of a strong running game centered around Fluff Bothwell, who is much more physical than his name suggests and has four 100-yard games this season.

Borussia Dortmund are preparing for a massive top-of-the-table showdown against Bayern Munich this weekend as both sides look to break their current deadlock at the summit. Head coach Niko Kovac has acknowledged the significant threat posed by the record champions, specifically highlighting the form of their star forward.
Kovac has offered high praise for Kane as Dortmund prepare to face a Bayern side led by the newly crowned Ballon d'Or winner. The England captain has continued his devastating form in Germany, prompting the Dortmund boss to recognize the sheer scale of the task facing his defense on Saturday. Kovac noted that the striker's recent accolades speak for themselves, emphasizing that he has successfully reached a new level since moving to the Bundesliga.
"There's no need to say a word about him. The mere fact that he received this ****** le says everything about him. He was already a top player in England. To take another leap forward now is sensational," said Kovac on the club's official website
The stakes could not be higher for this edition of Der Klassiker, with both teams currently tied on 17 points after seven matchdays. While Bayern hold the top spot due to a superior goal difference, Dortmund have the opportunity to leapfrog their rivals. Kovac believes the current competitiveness at the top is a breath of fresh air for the league. However, the coach warned that excitement does not equate to an easy path to victory. He demanded absolute focus from his squad, stressing that only their best football would suffice in Munich.
"This certainly makes things a lot more exciting than in recent years. But that doesn't make it any easier, because FC Bayern Munich is undoubtedly the best of the best—not just in Germany, but also in Europe. We have to play at the very highest level. But we're Dortmund—we have our own standards, and we intend to live up to them," Kovac insisted.

The New England Patriots entered the season hoping their passing game would take another significant step forward with Drake Maye leading the offense. A.J. Brown was expected to play an important role in that development, giving Maye a proven receiving threat capable of making difficult catches and creating explosive plays.
Instead, the Patriots have spent much of the opening two months trying to keep their wide receiver group healthy.
Thursday brought another discouraging development when Brown missed practice because of ankle and knee issues.
NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported that a knee problem had flared up, leaving Brown's availability for Sunday's game against the Miami Dolphins uncertain.
