The outlook for the Middle East war remains grim, the U.S. just threatened Iran with the "toughest sanctions in history," and the world is running out of stored fuels. To make matters worse, refining capacity is down considerably, and even if the outlook for the war suddenly changed and the U.S. and Iran made peace, the fuel squeeze will last for months—and so will its adverse effects on the global economy.
Watching crude oil prices, one would think everything is under control. Both Brent crude and West Texas Intermediate are below $100 per barrel, even if they are both up by around $20 per barrel from pre-war levels. Still, the price rise in crude oil is much more moderate than the inflation in fuel prices. Diesel in Europe, for instance, is up by 70% from pre-war levels, as reported by Reuters' Ron Bousso this week.
A separate Reuters report showed that diesel now costs more in Europe than jet fuel. This is the first time in over a year that the price difference between the two fuels is in favor of diesel, the publication noted, citing data from LSEG. The diesel crack spread in the United States hit triple digits earlier this week, for the first time ever. The premium over crude prices jumped to as high as $102 per barrel on Monday, before easing slightly to about $100 a barrel on Tuesday.

Refinery margins are running at record highs across the world as the energy crisis unfolds. The first aspect of this crisis is the tighter supply of crude from the Middle East, which should be obvious enough since the media has been covering the topic on a daily basis for over six months. Yet there has also been refinery damage in the Middle East. In fact, per the International Energy Agency, as much as a fifth of that refining capacity, totaling some 9.6 million barrels daily, has been knocked out by hostilities.

The long-term growth story for nuclear power is clear. Artificial intelligence (AI) companies are scaling energy-intensive data center infrastructure as quickly as humanly possible. And the current energy grid isn't prepared for this unprecedented build-out. New energy sources will be needed quickly, and nuclear energy could deliver the reliable, low-carbon baseload power the AI industry craves.
NuScale Power (NYSE: SMR) has long appreciated this data center infrastructure demand tailwind. The company's small modular reactors (SMRs) are a great fit for adding large amounts of reliable power generation to the grid.
Missed Nvidia in 2009? This Rare Signal Is Flashing Again. In 2009, a "Double Down" signal flashed for a little-known chipmaker called Nvidia. For the first time in years, that same "Total Conviction" signal is flashing for a company 1/100th the size of Nvidia. Continue »
This year, however, I think there's an even more exciting catalyst to pay attention to than general industry demand tailwinds.
NuScale remains the only nuclear developer in the U.S. approved by regulators to build an SMR system. But it has yet to even commercialize its approved designs. That could change later this year when the company suspects it could reach a power purchase agreement (PPA) with a major customer.

SoundHound AI (NASDAQ: SOUN) stock has gone on quite the roller-coaster ride over the past few years. It was trading below $2 a share in January 2024, but topped out at over $24 per share at the end of that year. It nearly hit that high again in late 2025, but has come down significantly since then, and now trades at just over $7 per share. While hype about the company may have driven its stock up and the vacuum left behind when that buzz dissipated caused it to sink, SoundHound AI has been doing pretty well on the business front.
It has several exciting propositions that could make it a giant in the AI ***** e, but could it be your ticket to becoming a millionaire?

When measuring a single stock's potential to make an investor a millionaire, I think setting the initial investment at $10,000 is reasonable. Starting from an investment of that size, the stock would need to deliver a 100x return to transform the stake into a $1 million position.
Does SoundHound AI have that kind of upside potential? Today, it has a $3.12 billion market cap, so it would need to grow into a $312 billion company -- which is still smaller than another hot AI software stock, Palantir (NASDAQ: PLTR), which is now valued at $420 billion. Palantir's tools for integrating AI features into business workflows have become quite popular. If SoundHound AI's audio recognition and AI integration software gains a similar level of popularity, then I think it's entirely possible the stock could deliver life-changing returns to long-term shareholders.

Serayah McNeill, known mononymously by her first name, has announced her split from rapper and actor Joey Bada$$.
The singer, songwriter, model and Empire star was engaged to be married. The couple share a one-year-old son, Joey.
"After much thought, I have made the difficult decision to end my engagement and relationship with the father of my child," she wrote in an Instagram post.
"I loved deeply, believed wholeheartedly in the life we were building, and wanted nothing more than to protect our family. Unfortunately, I also had to face a painful truth: there had been repeated infidelity throughout our relationship, including during some of the most vulnerable and meaningful moments of my life."
Serayah concluded, "This chapter did not end the way I prayed it would," and noted that she would not share more details publicly, citing her son's privacy.
The former couple met through friends and got together in early 2022, going public with their romance during a holiday to St Lucia in January 2024.

This year has been an exciting time for the stock market. Despite some short-term downturns related to the Iran conflict and ongoing uncertainty about inflation and rising interest rates, investors seem bullish on stocks. The S&P 500 (SNPINDEX: ^GSPC) recently reached all-time highs and is up about 13% year to date.
But how should you invest for the future? Is buying the S&P 500 index a good bet for the long term?

Here's what every investor should keep in mind: In the past 98 years, since 1928, the S&P 500 has delivered average annual returns of about 10%. That average return includes many booms, busts, and economic crises along the way.
But if you're a long-term investor, buying the S&P 500 tends to be a smart choice because it lets you own the 500 largest publicly traded companies in America. Those companies tend to be good at making money and delivering returns to shareholders.

At 21 years old, San Antonio Spurs guard Stephon Castle is one of the league's most exciting young talents. Throughout his first two NBA seasons, the former UConn guard has a Rookie of the Year Award and an NBA Finals appearance to his name. Last season, Castle averaged 16.7 points, 7.4 **** ists, 5.3 rebounds, 1.1 steals and 0.3 blocks.
However, there are two things between Castle and an ascension into superstardom. Turnovers are one of those, as Castle averaged 3.2 giveaways per game last year. Another has been 3-point shooting. Although Castle's 33.2% mark from 3-point range was an improvement from his rookie campaign (28.5%), the third-year guard still has some room for improvement.
Luckily for Spurs fans, Castle has been working tirelessly on his jump shot this summer. Castle's trainer, Olin Simplis, recently spoke about Castle's process this summer, saying, "With Steph, it's also about making sure that we create the proper energy and synergy on every rep. He's such a high-volume guy defensively that sometimes his sequence in his shooting patterns is off. So I think fatigue sets in. If you don't have the proper energy from the ground through your shot line, sometimes the ball reaches the pocket later than it's supposed to during your sequence."
If Castle can shoot near league average from 3-point range (35-36%), he'll be able to cement himself not only as a premiere two-way talent but also as a three-level scoring threat.

San Francisco 49ers owner Jed York was arrested in Ohio over the weekend for trying to pay a prostitute a little over $100, according to police.
York, a 46-year-old married executive, was taken into custody Sunday at a trailer park in East Palestine and was initially charged with engaging in prostitution, but prosecutors amended the charge to disorderly conduct. The NFL owner is originally from Youngstown, Ohio, about a 30-minute drive from where he was arrested.
He ended up pleading no contest to misdemeanor charges of disorderly conduct and possessing criminal tools.
York's arrest came after he answered an ad on a known prostitution website in Columbiana County and "arranged to have ******* ual activity with the female in exchange for $140.00," the California Post reported, citing court documents.
He then went to the trailer park to meet up with the woman, and an agent from the Mahoning Valley Human Trafficking Task Force found York had his cellphone on him "which was used to arrange the criminal act," according to the documents.

Micron (NASDAQ: MU) stock tumbled 5.5% in the first five minutes of trading Monday after tech news site WCCTech reported the Trump Administration has decided to permit Apple (NASDAQ: AAPL) to purchase memory chips from Chinese suppliers ChangXin Memory Technologies (CXMT) and Yangtze Memory Technologies Corp (YMTC).

Respectively, CXMT is a maker of low-cost DRAM chips, while YMTC manufactures NAND. Micron produces both kinds of memory chips. According to WCCTech, the DRAM and NAND that Apple might source from China would only be used in Apple products sold in China.
As such, this news isn't a global threat to Micron. It is, however, at least a threat to the company's market share in China, and perhaps in other countries to which China might ship Apple products, should those start to filter out.
Not everyone thinks it's time to press the panic **** on. In a note on StreetInsider.com this morning, Lynx Equity Research **** yst KC Rajkumar says calls for investors to sell Micron are an "overreaction," citing concerns about the quality of Chinese wares and the inability of CXMT and YMTC to scale production sufficiently to meet Apple's needs.

The Los Angeles Rams have one more preseason game to figure out who will make their final roster and who will be released. It's a nerve-racking time for any player on the roster bubble, and it's exciting as well. Some players are going to be disappointed as they won't make their team, other players will have their dreams come true.
The Rams have plenty of work to do to figure out their backup quarterback situation, they need to determine the look of their running back room, and more! So much to do, never enough time in the NFL.
To this point, the Rams are 2-0 and are having a nice preseason with Ty Simpson looking solid against the Kansas City Chiefs, and then Stetson Bennett looking confident against the New Orleans Saints. You could make the case that preseason is going exactly as it should for the Rams as their quarterbacks look serviceable, and their depth overall looks like a strength.
Take that all with a grain of salt. It's only preseason, and the Rams want to look good in the regular season, not just the preseason. That aside, take it for what it is. The Rams have looked good in August, and that's all they can do right now.
"LOS ANGELES — The Rams open the 2026 NFL regular season against the San Francisco 49ers on Sept. 10 at Melbourne Cricket Ground. But first, they play one more preseason game Thursday against the Los Angeles Chargers and then must cut their roster to 53 players by 6 p.m. ET on Sunday.

The Treasury General Account ballooned to $950 billion. Nearly double Biden's $550-$600 billion target. Giving Bessent firepower to fund expanded bond buybacks.
Treasury doubled its long-bond buyback program to at least $4 billion, sending the 30-year yield to 5.23%, a level not seen since 2007.
Draining the TGA creates a thinner debt-ceiling cushion, estimated around winter or early spring, and restoring it would require selling additional bonds.

The federal government's checking account at the Federal Reserve has quietly ballooned to around $950 billion, roughly the size of Switzerland's economy. On Monday, CNBC's Steve Liesman reported, citing two senior Treasury officials, that Secretary Scott Bessent could tap that cash pile to fund the department's recently expanded bond buyback program. Officials would not say how much would be used or when, but conveyed that the balance "is considered to be available." Under the Biden administration, the stated target was around $550 billion to $600 billion. The gap is the story.

The U.S. Treasury is weighing whether to use its roughly $1 trillion General Account to help pay for its expanded bond buyback program, according to CNBC, citing two Treasury officials. The officials did not say how much of the account would be used.
Monday's report pushed the 10-year Treasury note yield down 4 basis points to 4.7%. The 30-year yield, which last week reached its highest point since 2007, retreated 4 basis points to 5.23%.
The Treasury General Account functions as the federal government's primary operating account at the Federal Reserve. The account stood near $950 billion — well above the $550 to $600 billion level the prior administration had aimed to maintain — and Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent built the balance using existing tax collections. The prevailing market expectation had been that buyback purchases would be funded through new short-term bill sales, an approach Bessent described as a "Treasury Twist." The senior officials did not rule out that approach but indicated the General Account represents an additional potential funding source.
Officials said they do not view a partial drawdown of the account as creating a near-term cash management problem, with the next debt-ceiling constraint not expected until sometime between next winter and early spring, according to CNBC.
The report follows Treasury's announcement last week that it would at least double the maximum size of its per-operation bond purchases for longer-dated securities, raising the ceiling from $2 billion to at least $4 billion for the 10-to-20-year and 20-to-30-year portions of the market. Treasury set the window for those larger operations to begin September 9 and close November 4. Yields dropped after the announcement before rebounding, with the 30-year yield giving back most of Wednesday's decline by Thursday, as ******* ysts questioned whether the program was large enough to alter the balance of supply and demand in a $32 trillion market.

The U.S. Treasury is considering using its near-$950 billion General Account to help fund its recently announced bond buyback program, according to CNBC, citing two senior Treasury officials. The officials said the account is considered available for purchases of off-the-run securities but declined to specify how much, if any, would be used or when an announcement might come.
The TGA, which functions as the federal government's primary operating account at the Federal Reserve, stood at roughly $950 billion as of the officials' comments — a figure that dwarfs the $550 to $600 billion level that the Biden administration had aimed to maintain. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent built the balance to its current level, and officials said it is funded with existing tax collections.
The prevailing expectation in markets was that the purchases would be paid for through new short-term bill sales, an approach Bessent labeled a "Treasury Twist" during a CNBC appearance last week. The senior officials did not rule out that approach, but made clear the TGA represents an additional potential funding source.
Tapping the TGA could counter doubts expressed by ******* ysts who have argued that the program lacks the scale to exert any real influence on long-term yields. Since the buyback announcement last week, bonds had retreated from an initial rally, pushing yields higher.
Officials indicated they do not view a partial TGA drawdown as creating any near-term cash management problem. Current projections put the next debt-ceiling bind sometime between next winter and early spring, which officials said provides a reasonable window to restore the balance before any constraint bites. Should the Treasury choose to hold the TGA near its current level after using some funds for buybacks, it would need to conduct additional debt sales to restore the account.

TUNIS, Tunisia (AP) — A boat carrying migrants capsized off the coast of southern Tunisia, killing at least two people and leaving 12 missing, Tunisia's national guard said Saturday. One survivor was rescued.
Guard spokesperson Houssem Eddine Jebabli told state news agency TAP that authorities recovered two bodies and transferred them to a hospital on the nearby island of Djerba. He told national radio Mosaique FM that about 15 people were believed to be aboard the boat when it took off between the cities of Zarzis and Ben Guerdane.
The boat had set off early Thursday, and a commercial ship found the sole survivor Saturday in a life jacket, Mosaique reported, citing testimony from the survivor.
A helicopter and coast guard boats were then dispatched to the area in search of more survivors, according to an ***** ociated Press photojournalist at the scene. The migrants were believed to be headed toward Italy.
Zarzis has long been a departure point for Tunisians and others from around Africa or beyond attempting to cross the Mediterranean toward Europe.

The Committee on Foreign Investment in the US (CFIUS) has launched a national security review of Shein's acquisition of clothing retailer Everlane, Bloomberg reported, citing unnamed sources.
The Treasury-led interagency panel began scrutinising the transaction after the $80m deal was finalised in May 2026.
Shein itself initiated the review process at that point—a departure from standard practice, since companies usually obtain CFIUS approval before a deal closes rather than afterwards.
The central question is whether Shein's ownership of a business holding US consumers' personal data poses a threat to national security.
No outcome has yet emerged from the review.

Exxon is in the running for Shell's U.S. chemicals business that could fetch $8 billion, the Financial Times reported today, citing unnamed sources familiar with developments.
The U.S. supermajor is competing with LyondellBasell, Apollo Global Management, and the Kuwait Petroleum Corporation, the unnamed sources also told the publication. The potential buyers have submitted non-binding offers to Shell, with these ranging from offers to buy parts of the business to offers for the whole division.
Shell's chemicals business in the United States comprises four facilities in Louisiana, Texas, and Pennsylvania that make chemicals used in a range of industries, from plastics production to detergents.
Shell has made two **** et sales recently, one of its onshore wind and solar power business in Europe and the other of a stake in a gas project offshore Cyprus. The wind and solar power deal went to TotalEnergies and involved 500 megawatts of combined renewable generation capacity in operation and in development, as well as a pipeline of projects for future development across Italy, the Netherlands, Spain, and the UK.
The transaction is subject to regulatory approvals and is expected to complete by the end of 2026, Shell said earlier this month in the announcement of the deal with TotalEnergies.

SEOUL, Aug 24 (Reuters) - South Korea's Defence Ministry said North Korea was continuing preparations for an additional troop deployment to Russia, but had detected no signs that such a deployment was imminent, according to a South Korean lawmaker's office.

North Korea is estimated to have supplied Russia with more than 15 million rounds of artillery ammunition, measured in 152-millimetre shell equivalents, it said.
The lawmaker's office, citing a South Korean Defense Intelligence Agency ****** sment, said North Korean missiles used in the war may have improved in accuracy through battlefield data, alongside Russian technical advice and component support.

Financial technology firms' SoFi Technologies, Inc. (NASDAQ:SOFI) and PayPal Holdings, Inc. (NASDAQ:PYPL)'s shares have diverged in performance in 2026. SOFI is down by 31% year-to-date while PYPL is up by 5.9%. PayPal Holdings, Inc. (NASDAQ:PYPL)'s stock has gained primarily on the back of takeover news, but Cramer has remained unconvinced. In his previous remarks about the firm, the CNBC TV host remarked that he was hesitant to recommend the stock on the basis of takeover news. In his morning appearance on August 17th, Cramer admonished **** ysts for recommending the stocks even though they were struggling:
"One of the more irritating parts of this market is, the insistence of loving fintech. The **** ysts just love fintech. And the three that they love are SoFi, Klarna, and now PayPal. Look, I totally understand it. But you don't need to reiterate every day people. We understand. PayPal maybe a takeover candidate. Klarna is doing really great. SoFi, it's going to come back. Just stop. **** ysts stop recommending these. Let them go to where they are on the downside. And then you can recommend them. . .I really think that's what happened is that, thatPayPal, when we heard that it might get a takeover bid, it made everything really exciting to people. But I just think, no, just go buy Wells Fargo. Go buy JPMorgan over Klarna. Okay. Or over PayPal."
SoFi Technologies, Inc. (NASDAQ:SOFI)'s narrative surrounds its valuation. The firm's forward P/E ratio is 31.55, which is nearly double that of banking giant JPMorgan and more than 2x of PYPL's 11.79. The risk to SoFi Technologies, Inc. (NASDAQ:SOFI)'s valuation comes from its transformation into a digital bank from a student loan company. Therefore, the firm's Financial Services and Technology platforms are at the center of the narrative.
On this front, SoFi Technologies, Inc. (NASDAQ:SOFI)'s second quarter saw its two businesses grow net revenue by 29% and drop by 23% annually. Technology suffered as a large client transitioned away from the platform. SoFi Technologies, Inc. (NASDAQ:SOFI)'s management added that the two businesses should account for more than 50% of overall revenue over the long term. To sum it up, the firm's headwinds could stem from high deposit costs of sizable amount of funds, such as $45 billion in the latest quarter, while the capital light Financial Services business and fee-driven Technology Services could lead the way to growth.
Shifting towards PayPal Holdings, Inc. (NASDAQ:PYPL), it's all about turnaround versus acquisitions. The turnaround camp, of which its management is also a part of, hinges on improved checkout performance, AI modernization, cost savings and Venmo growth. Through these, PayPal Holdings, Inc. (NASDAQ:PYPL) aims to save $400 million in costs in 2026 and streamline headcount in 2027. Therefore, the firm could experience tailwinds should it achieve the stated $1.5 billion in gross run rate savings and generate earnings power.

Buying a new car is expensive enough without bringing thousands of dollars of debt from your old one along for the ride. Yet that's exactly what a growing number of Americans are doing, and personal finance expert Suze Orman says it's a mistake drivers need to avoid.
"For many of us, having a car is a necessity," Orman wrote on her website recently. "For some families, two are needed." But nearly 30% of vehicles traded in toward a new car still have a significant unpaid loan balance. Citing Edmunds data, Orman said the average amount still owed on those trade-ins earlier this year was nearly $7,000.

TAIPEI, Aug 22 (Reuters) - A U.S. Navy P-8A Poseidon aircraft transited the Taiwan Strait in international airspace on Friday, in a move the U.S. 7th Fleet said "demonstrates the United States' commitment to a free and open Indo-Pacific".
The Chinese military tracked and monitored the patrol and reconnaissance aircraft throughout the transit, the state-backed Global Times newspaper reported, citing a military source, saying the "situation was under control".
U.S. military ships or aircraft every few months pass through or above the waterway that separates democratically governed Taiwan from China — missions that anger Beijing.
Chinese President Xi Jinping is expected to visit the United States next month to meet President Donald Trump as Washington and Beijing look to stabilise ties marred by issues including Taiwan, trade disputes and technology curbs.
"By operating within the Taiwan Strait in accordance with international law, the United States upholds the navigational rights and freedoms of all nations," the 7th Fleet said in a statement.

The quarterback competition between Deshaun Watson and Shedeur Sanders was already an interesting one going into the preseason matchup against the Buffalo Bills. Watson's postgame comments certainly made things more interesting following his lackluster second-half performance, in which he completed just 5 of 12 passes for 36 yards and an interception.
Watson was asked about the boos from the Cleveland crowd, and he didn't hold back when sharing his thoughts. He said, "I think the whole world knows it has nothing to do with the performance. It's a little bit more personal than that. So, I think it's a disrespectful thing." He also pointed out that he feels like he gets more support from opposing crowds on the road than he gets from the home crowd in Cleveland. He even referenced the fans who cheered when he tore his Achilles back in 2024.
While it is clear that Watson does not appreciate the response he is receiving from fans, there are larger issues that he may not be able to handle: the pressure that comes with being the quarterback of this team.
His response to the fans this week will likely only increase that response in the final preseason game. If he earns the starting job for Week 1, the boos from Cleveland fans are likely to continue. Would it be irresponsible of the coaching staff to subject the rest of the roster to an extremely hostile environment?
The Browns' offense is filled with young, exciting talent who deserve a chance to develop on this team without the pressure and criticism that comes along with having Watson as the starting quarterback.

Two games, two draws. Something to build on for Wrexham.
The need for further transfer business loomed large over the Racecourse following the 1-1 draw with Watford that frustrated fans on the first home afternoon of the new Championship campaign.
But, dominating the skyline of the ground - and the city - a towering, tangible reminder of the scale of the ambition at the north Wales club.
The new £70m Kop stand is still lacking fans, still not completed, but the concrete and steel shape of an exciting future was obvious when both players and fans took their positions for the first fixture of the season at their changing north Walian home.
"It's exciting because it's a real symbol of hope ahead," said chief executive Michael Williamson.

The NFL has always adopted some unusual choices during the preseason in the announcing booth. This year, though, featured a first-of-its-kind appearance as actress Brenda Song took up the role of an **** yst for her beloved Los Angeles Rams.
As they took on the New Orleans Saints, she was an enthusiastic presence throughout the game. But for Jason Brown, who became a household name thanks to"Last Chance U," her work was far from satisfactory.
A resident of Los Angeles, Song has made her sports fandom known for years. From appearing courtside for the Los Angeles Lakers to her fascination with the Rams, she's embraced the biggest teams in the city.
As a result, it was a wildly exciting time for her as she stepped into the commentary booth, even if it was a preseason game. Her energy was refreshing as she brought a unique enthusiasm to the booth, cheering on the Rams at virtually every turn.
However, Brown wasn't a fan.
