NHL rumors: Blue Jackets fans won't love Pierre LeBrun's Adam Fantilli update appeared first on ClutchPoints. Add ClutchPoints as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
Members of the Columbus Blue Jackets are set to arrive for camp on September 16, with the first on-ice workouts scheduled for the next day. Earlier on Monday, the Blue Jackets added Cam Talbot to the team, bringing in another netminder for camp.
Still, there is one player on the roster who may not be on the ice on September 17. Adam Fantilli is still without a contract from the team, and talks with the restricted free agent are going slowly, according to Pierre LeBrun of The Athletic.
"Adam Fantilli remained unsigned Monday ahead of Blue Jackets camp opening this week. The sides continue to talk, which is good, but there's a sizeable gap to overcome. 'Very slow' was how one source described things," LeBrun wrote. "That negotiation needs a positive uptick. The slowness certainly hasn't been for a lack of effort from either side this summer. There have been offers and counter-offers, but they're just not there yet."

One of the bigger question marks entering Detroit Red Wings training camp is seemingly answered − for now, at least.
Defenseman Simon Edvinsson, a restricted free agent, intends to report to camp even if he doesn't have a new deal, according to a report from The Athletic hockey insider Pierre LeBrun. LeBrun goes on to say Edvinsson is "patiently waiting for the Red Wings GM situation to iron itself out before resuming negotiations."
Edvinsson had 25 points (nine goals) in 72 games played this past season and finished with a plus-12.
Edvinsson should see a huge payday. Bowen Byram, the No. 4 overall pick from 2019, just received an extension from the Blackhawks with a hefty $12.5 million cap hit. The Wings can ill afford Edvinsson (No. 6 pick in 2021) to be on the sidelines awaiting a new contract when their season begins, as he is one of their top workhorses.
But who will hammer out that deal? That still remains to be seen, as the Red Wings are about a week away from the start camp (Sept. 17) and they still do not have a general manager. Steve Yzerman parted ways from the position on July 15, moving into a senior advisor role.

ANAHEIM, Calif. – A day after acquiring his rights from the Florida Panthers in exchange for the rights to now-former Ducks captain Radko Gudas, Anaheim reportedly signed pending free agent forward AJ Greer to a four-year, $4.25 million per season contract on Tuesday.
NHL salary cap and tracking site PuckPedia was first to report, with near simultaneous posting from NHL insiders Pierre LeBrun (TSN, The Athletic), Elliotte Friedman (Sportsnet) and Frank Seravalli (Hockey247, Victory+).
The deal, which includes a 10-team no-trade clause for all four years, was signed the day before NHL free agency begins in full on Wednesday at 9 a.m. Pacific Time.
Gudas, who previously played for the Panthers from 2020-23, has yet to sign with Florida, as of Tuesday evening. Gudas played three seasons with the Ducks, including the last two as captain. The 36-year-old Czech Olympic blueliner battled lower-body injuries down the stretch this season with just 56 regular season games played and one playoff game–the opener in Edmonton.
“Wearing this jersey and serving as captain was a privilege that I’ll always be proud of,” Gudas wrote on Instagram on Tuesday. “Thank you for the support, the memories and for making my family and me feel at home from day one. Anaheim will always mean a lot to us.”

New York Islanders captain Anders Lee will officially test the unrestricted free-agent market after contract negotiations with the organization failed to produce an agreement. The decision ends months of discussions and opens the door for several contenders to pursue one of the top veteran forwards available.
TSN insider Pierre LeBrun reported the development on X after learning the two sides could not bridge the remaining gap.
"The Islanders were informed this morning that captain Anders Lee is headed to the UFA market," LeBrun wrote.
He added, "Not a decision that was taken lightly. The Isles improved their offer in late stages, but still not there."
Despite the setback, LeBrun indicated the relationship has not completely ended.

Hurricanes traded for John Carlson, but he might actually leave for Flyers, Lightning or Bruins originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
Carolina made a shrewd move to acquire John Carlson's rights in a trade with the Anaheim Ducks during the 2026 NHL Draft.
The veteran defenseman is heading for free agency, and the Hurricanes gave themselves a chance to negotiate with him ahead of time.
It might not pay off, though.
The Athletic's Pierre LeBrun suggests in a new article this week that Carlson may not agree to a contract with Carolina and instead could test the open market.

Sabres trade rumor is terrible news for Bowen Byram's future in Buffalo originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
Much of the Buffalo Sabres discussion around Alex Tuch's free agency has been about what the Sabres can do with the money if they don't sign Tuch to a long-term deal.
One name that comes into that conversation is Bowen Byram, the talented defenseman who could be due to get a long-term contract.
Maybe, though, that's not actually a realistic point to make. It sounds like Byram might have other ideas.
On Monday, The Athletic's Pierre LeBrun wrote about the firestorm of trades that might be hitting the NHL this offseason. It began with Brady Tkachuk going from the Senators to the Panthers on Sunday.

Brady Tkachuk trade details: Why Panthers are pairing Senators captain with brother in blockbuster deal originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
In the eyes of the Florida Panthers, two Tkachuks are better than one.
The Panthers are acquiring Brady Tkachuk in a blockbuster trade with the Ottawa Senators, TSN's Pierre LeBrun first reported, pairing the former Ottawa captain with his brother in a major splash.
Florida set the stage for a major move after acquiring an additional first-round pick from Seattle in a deal for Mackie Samoskevich earlier Sunday, and that pick is one of three headed to the Senators for the 26-year-old Tkachuk.
Here's a complete look at the details of the Tkachuk deal.

The New York Islanders may lose their captain to free agency, and the New Jersey Devils play a major role in the situation.
Anders Lee’s seven year contract is up on July 1st and he’s set to become an unrestricted free agent.
The Islanders and Lee have been here before. However, at the 11th hour back in 2019, Lee and the Islanders agreed to terms on an extension to keep the captain on Long Island.
Yet, this isn’t Lou Lamoriello’s Islanders anymore. It’s Mathieu Darche in the GM chair these days. And now Lee and the Islanders are back at it in this game of chicken.
According to NHL insider Pierre LeBrun, Lee and his agent are preparing to hit free agency on July 1st.
