There is the age-old adage that goes: “Attacks win you games, but defences win you tournaments.”
Jose Mourinho’s second spell at Real Madrid seems to have started with the club trying to stick to it like it is gospel truth.
Los Merengues have been moving to sign defender after defender this transfer window, and the scary part is that they do not seem done.
According to Sky Sports (h/t RM4Arab), Real Madrid have established direct contact with the agent of Borussia Dortmund star Nico Schlotterbeck.
Jose Mourinho is a big admirer of the player and has urged the club to try to sign the 26-year-old left-footed defender.

We’re just 82 days from the start of the 2026 Penn State Football season!
Let’s mark the occasion by giving the spotlight to someone who quietly makes the team better – wide receiver Ethan Black. The Davidsville, PA, native earned his spot on the roster the hard way – as an undersized walk-on. Despite his lack of size at 5-9, 160 lbs., Black had a standout career for Conemaugh Township. During his senior season alone, he produced 1,645 all-purpose yards with 18 touchdowns, while also collecting 39 tackles and four interceptions on defense.
As a true freshman, Black was honored as the team’s Developmental Squad Offensive Player of the Year. It was clearly a productive year despite taking a redshirt season. The award signifies a strong work ethic and giving a consistent effort to make the team better at each turn.
Black was able to see the field on special teams in 2024, and made his first tackle in a Nittany Lion uniform against Maryland. He continued his work as a special teamer in 2025, while also being named Academic All-Big Ten for the first time.
Just 82 more days until Penn State hits the field!

It’s been a fun June so far, with a crazy NBA Finals, the World Cup starting up, and Sunday night, the Carolina Hurricanes winning the Stanley Cup, 4-2 in Game 6.
The ‘Canes were not fooling around Sunday. The defense was dominant throughout, and Las Vegas was pretty thoroughly stifled. It was a richly deserved win.
It’s also good for another reason.
What happened in New York after the New York Knicks won the NBA Championship was an absolute disgrace. We could be wrong, and it’s still early in Raleigh as we write this, but the odds of a celebration getting out hand seem vanishingly small. We don’t think you’re going to see a riot here, and that’s a good contrast to what happened in New York on Saturday night. This is the worst we’ve seen, and it’s actually kind of cute.
On a different June note, it’s been fun to see the World Cup start to unfold, and not least of all to see the various fans spread out across the U.S.

Arsenal, Liverpool among teams interested in Moroccan wonderkid originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
One of the teams to look out for at the 2026 FIFA World Cup is Morocco, with the defending AFCON champions a perennial dark horse in recent tournaments, including their semi-final run at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, where they lost to France. The squad includes the likes of Achraf Hakimi, Brahim Diaz, and Noussair Mazraoui, but the real star of their opening match of the tournament against Brazil was Ayyoub Bouaddi.
The 18-year-old would prove to be too much for the Brazilians to handle, recording 60 passes, five interceptions, while winning out on 9 duels in the midfield. Given that it's his World Cup debut, this is rather impressive for someone at that young of an age on the global stage. But for those keyed into Ligue 1, these numbers aren't too surprising given that Bouaddi recorded 33 interceptions and won out on 49 tackles during 42 games with Lille this season.
All of this has caught the eyes of multiple of the bigger clubs around the world, making the Moroccan midfielder one of the names to watch during the summer transfer window, with multiple Premier League sides looking at acquiring his services, chief among them: ****** nal and Liverpool.
According to a recent report from Fabrizio Romano, both English sides have been in contact with Bouaddi's representatives about making a move in the coming weeks.
