Ludvig Aberg is one of Scottie Scheffler's closest challengers with 36 holes left to play at the FedEx St. Jude Championship.
Scheffler was in scintillating form on Friday at the FedEx St. Jude as he fired a round of nine-under par 61.
Aberg's round of 65 was made to look rather ordinary by the 30-year-old world number one's brilliance.

World number one Scottie Scheffler matched the course record with a nine-under par 61 to grab a three-stroke lead after Friday's second round of the PGA St. Jude Championship.
The 30-year-old American sank 11 birdies against two bogeys to stand on 11-under 129 after 36 holes in the PGA FedEx Cup playoff opener at TPC Southwind in Memphis, Tennessee.
"I felt like I did a lot of stuff well," Scheffler said. "I gave myself a lot of looks, hit some nice iron shots and was able to make some birdies."
Four others have also fired 61s at the layout, the most recent being England's Justin Rose in 2023.
South Korean Im Sung-jae fired a 66 to stand second on 132 with Norway's Viktor Hovland. Sweden's Ludvig Aberg was another stroke adrift and Colombian Nico Echavarria, Americans Brian Harman and Jordan Spieth and England's Tommy Fleetwood, the reigning playoff champion, on 134.

Ludvig Åberg’s U.K. fortnight didn’t get off to the best of starts.
Prior to last week’s Genesis Scottish Open, Åberg had to replace his driver shaft and launch monitor after both were damaged on his travel overseas.
Åberg flew from Boston to his native Sweden following the Travelers Championship, though his bags, including his golf bags, didn’t join him for three days. When they finally arrived, Åberg discovered the damage.
“When I pulled it out my driver was snapped in half,” Åberg said during an on-course interview on Tuesday at Royal Birkdale. “My Foresight, the [GC] Quad that I use, was cracked in half.”
Åberg missed the cut last Friday at Renaissance Club and enters this week’s Open Championship without a top-10 finish since his T-4 at the PGA Championship. However, Åberg has been solid in recent majors, currently riding a streak of four straight top-25s in those biggest events since missing back-to-back cuts, at last year’s PGA and U.S. Open.

SOUTHPORT, England— Ludvig Aberg’s preparation for the Open got off to an inauspicious start.
In a walk-and-talk with Open Championship media at Royal Birkdale Tuesday morning, Aberg relayed that he had some travel difficulties arriving to the United Kingdom earlier this month. For starters, his bag was lost for three days. Not necessarily an uncommon occurrence, both for those at the professional level and amateurs chasing the ball around the globe.
Unfortunately for Aberg, things did not improve when his bag was ultimately discovered.
“When I pulled it out my driver was snapped in half,” Aberg said. “My Foresight, the quad that I use, was cracked in half.”
When the Open reporter joked that his numbers were off, Aberg pantomimed putting his finger in the air to judge the wind.

Yerry Mina could be on the move this summer, with Fenerbahce showing an interest in the Cagliari defender.
According to Turkish outlet Habergo, via TuttoMercatoWeb, the Super Lig side have stepped up contacts with the Sardinians in recent hours as they look to secure the experienced centre-back.
Mina has been a mainstay for Cagliari of late, one of the key figures around whom the club built their survival in each of the last two Serie A campaigns.
Any suggestion of his departure is therefore likely to unsettle the Rossoblù faithful, given the influence the Colombia international has had at the heart of the defence.

Richard Hammond's girlfriend has reportedly been identified after the former Top Gear presenter made a brief public reference to dating again.
The Daily Mail reported that Hammond, 56, is dating Kiki Glen, a former teacher and therapist. The Mirror also reported Glen's name, describing her as a therapist.
Hammond has not publicly named Glen himself. His own reference came in a Telegraph column about his quieter life after separating from Mindy Hammond, where he wrote that some evenings are spent alone, some with his girlfriend and some with friends.
The new reports come more than a year after Richard and Mindy announced that their marriage was ending after 28 years together.
The Daily Mail reported that Hammond and Glen were recently seen together in Abergavenny, Wales, where Hammond has been living since the split.

Jon Rahm is set to play his first non-major PGA Tour event since joining LIV Golf.
Rahm and Legion XIII teammate Tyrrell Hatton were announced as two of commitments for the Genesis Scottish Open, to be held in two weeks at the Renaissance Club in North Berwick, Scotland. Rahm and Hatton are eligible to compete in the co-sanctioned event because each are DP World Tour members, with Rahm reaching a conditional release agreement with the European circuit back in May.
Rahm’s last non-major PGA Tour event was the 2023 Tour Championship while Hatton hasn’t played such a tournament since the 2024 Sony Open, after which he moved to LIV, following Rahm, who signed in December 2023.
Joining Rahm and Hatton in the Scottish field are Rory McIlroy, Ludvig Aberg, Shane Lowry, Viktor Hovland, Tommy Fleetwood and Robert MacIntyre, among others. The official field will be released the Friday before tournament week.
Rahm, a two-time winner on LIV this year, and Hatton, who won LIV’s most recent event earlier this month at Valderrama, won’t tee it up on LIV again until July 23-26 at LIV Golf U.K., as LIV’s event in New Orleans, which was supposed to be held this week, was canceled.

Tommy Fleetwood remains optimistic about his chances at the US Open, despite a challenging second round leaving him seven shots adrift of leader Wyndham Clark, as conditions are poised to become even more formidable over the weekend.
The Englishman carded a one-over-par 71, placing him joint 22nd after Friday's play.
Fleetwood, who will again play alongside Ludvig Aberg, faced the tougher side of the draw, missing Thursday’s more favourable scoring conditions that Clark capitalised on, before battling stiff winds as the course dried out on Friday.
Forecasters predict gusts could reach 33mph on Saturday afternoon, suggesting significant shifts are possible.
Reflecting on his performance, Fleetwood admitted: "I should have shot a couple better and that’s a little bit frustrating, but at the same time you take what you get and I did a lot of good stuff and at the end of the day we’re still in a pretty good position."

Tommy Fleetwood has suggested that it was helpful for him to be playing alongside Rory McIlroy and Ludvig Aberg during the opening round of the US Open at Shinnecock Hills.
Fleetwood is off to a promising start at the third major of the year. The Englishman finished his day inside the top 20 after posting a level par round of 70 in New York.
The FedEx Cup champion was involved in one of the marquee groups of the opening day.
Fleetwood was teeing it up alongside Ludvig Aberg and Rory McIlroy. Of course, the trio have probably not played golf together in New York since helping Europe win last year’s Ryder Cup.
Their group was among those who faced arguably the worst of the conditions on Thursday at Shinnecock Hills.

Ludvig Aberg was paired alongside Aaron Rai during the final round of the PGA Championship last month.
Many fancied Aberg to claim his first major, while Rai wasn’t even being spoken about as a potential winner before the event began.
However, the Englishman went on to produce some sensational golf down the stretch, playing his final 10 holes in six-under par to win by three from Jon Rahm and Alex Smalley.
Ludvig Aberg ended up finishing in a tie for fourth at the PGA Championship, four strokes adrift of the eventual champion, Aaron Rai.
At the time, Aberg said he was delighted to see Rai win the PGA Championship at the magnificent Aronimink.
