USA Rare Earth, Inc. (NASDAQ:USAR) announced on September 4 that it completed the Serra Verde acquisition one day earlier, paying $300 million in cash and issuing approximately 126.8 million common shares. The transaction adds Brazil's Pela Ema mine to Less Common Metals in the United Kingdom, the Stillwater, Oklahoma, magnet facility, and the Round Top project in Texas.
Serra Verde began production in January 2024 but is still completing optimization and commissioning. Stage 1 is expected to reach an annual run rate of approximately 4,000 metric tons of total rare-earth oxide, or TREO, by year-end 2026. Stage 2 construction targets average annual production of 6,400 metric tons, with commissioning expected to begin within 12 months.
Serra Verde had $425 million of principal outstanding under its U.S. International Development Finance Corporation loan at June 30. At closing, a $100 million tranche was extinguished after related warrants were exercised, leaving approximately $325 million of principal. The unaudited pro forma combined balance sheet reported a $304.1 million debt carrying value after discounts and issuance costs.
Serra Verde gives USA Rare Earth, Inc. (NASDAQ:USAR) a producing source of dysprosium, terbium, and other rare earths used in permanent magnets. Combining mining, metals, alloys, and magnet manufacturing could capture more of the value chain outside Asia.
The Phase 1 offtake agreement supports revenue visibility. It covers 100% of Pela Ema's Phase 1 products, subject to limited carve-outs, and includes escalating price floors annually. The counterparty is a special-purpose vehicle capitalized by the U.S. government and private investors. DETROIT — The Motor City Cruise — the G League affiliate of the Detroit Pistons — announced on Thursday the hiring of Steve Scalzi as their new head coach. Scalzi will replace Jamelle McMillan at the start of the 2026-27 season, becoming the third head coach in the franchise's history.
Scalzi has worked as an ***** istant coach for the Pistons for the past three seasons. Renowned for his player development skills, he has been instrumental in developing players such as Cade Cunningham and Ausar Thompson. In July, he also served as head coach for the Pistons during the 2026 NBA Summer League tournament.

A Pakistani TikTok content creator with 1 million+ followers was shot dead in her car in a city near Islamabad. Several people have been taken into custody in connection with the murder, which also severely injured her teenage sister.
Shamsu Bibi, 28, known as Ayesha Gilamana on social media, was killed in the evening of Aug. 14. Two men on a motorcycle appeared next to her car near a gas station on Grand Trunk Road and opened fire, shooting her in the neck. Her car lost control and collided with another vehicle, causing serious injuries to her 15-year-old sister, who was in the car with her.
According to the complaint by her father, Fazal Sahibzada, his daughter received a call from a man called Kashif, also Kashi, a few minutes before the shooting and was told to go outside immediately. She then went out in a car with her sister and brother, Naimatullah.
As stated by Sahibzada, he learned about the murder quickly and identified his daughter's corpse at the mortuary of a hospital in Taxila. He added that his son witnessed the crime and can recognize the two perpetrators who were about 30 to 35 years old.
According to the complaint, Bibi had sold a piece of land to two men named Kausar and Javed, and they threatened her after she demanded money. He mentioned those men and Kashif in the complaint, which he filed at the Taxila police station on charges of murder, attempted murder, and abetment. Those allegations haven't been confirmed yet, and no one has been convicted.

Ukraine launched hundreds of drones across Russia Sunday, killing at least six people in one of Kyiv's largest aerial attacks of the war.
Russia's Ministry of Defense said that it had destroyed 822 Ukrainian drones overnight. Some 600 drones were detected headed toward the Russian capital, Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said, with a third destroyed over the Moscow region itself.
An 83-year-old man was killed after a Ukrainian drone hit a private home in the Moscow region, local Gov. Andrey Vorobyov said. He also confirmed that a Ukrainian attack had sparked a blaze at a warehouse belonging to Russian retail giant Wildberries in the town of Podolsk, where images shared by Russian media outlets showed columns of black smoke .
A drone attack targeted three towns in Russia's southwestern Rostov region, killing five people, local Gov. Yury Slyusar said. The attack, with more than 150 drones, damaged several homes and a railway station and sparked a forest fire.
Ukraine has stepped up its attacks on Russia this year, with long-range missiles and swarms of drones increasingly targeting military industries and energy facilities. It has also increasingly pummeled giant Wildberries depots, burning billions of dollars' worth of merchandise and bringing the war home to the Russian public nearly 4½ years into Moscow's full-scale invasion of Ukraine.

Over the last several months, as Los Angeles Lakers star guard Austin Reaves neared his opportunity to opt out of his contract and cash in on a lucrative new one, many expected him to stay put. He eventually did by agreeing to a four-year, $185 million deal, but the process didn't come without anxiety.
He admitted that there was a point in the negotiations when he doubted he would end up staying with the Lakers. Indeed, the Detroit Pistons were one team that was "coming aggressively" for Reaves in free agency, according to Shams Charania of ESPN. Detroit finished first in the Eastern Conference last season but needed a little more star power and another legitimate scoring threat in its halfcourt game.
Vincent Goodwill of ESPN reported on "NBA Today" that Pistons superstar Cade Cunningham tried to recruit Reaves to the Motor City.
"Banking on internal improvement has been the thought going back from last summer when they didn't make a big move going into the season," Goodwill said. "They want to see how Jalen Duren and Ausar Thompson and Ron Holland would play together and it led to 60 wins. Now you're thinking Detroit was going to go make a big move this past offseason. Cade Cunningham was very involved in the potential recruitment of Austin Reaves. Austin Reaves re-signed with the Lakers. Kevin Durant, Kawhi Leonard, Kyrie Irving -- those were all names the Pistons were interested in. No moves materialized and now they're going to bank on the restricted free agent of Jalen Duren and Ausar Thompson's extension."
The Pistons have made some incremental moves this summer, including bringing in veteran forwards John Collins, Tobias Harris and Taurean Prince and guard Isaiah Joe. But they have largely been left behind in the arms race that has taken place throughout the Eastern Conference over the past several weeks.

Mining company USA Rare Earth (USAR) has named Serra Verde CEO Thras Moraitis as its next CEO after Barbara Humpton retires. Humpton has been instrumental in the company forging public-private partnerships and expanding its activity across critical mining processing, as well as metals and magnet manufacturing.
The rare-earth metal mining firm had agreed to acquire 100% of Serra Verde Group in April, which is the only large-scale producer outside Asia of all four magnetic rare earths. This year’s NBA Draft was a quiet one for USC. With the majority of their top players returning to school, the Trojans did not have a draft pick for the second consecutive year.
However, one Trojan is headed to the league as an undrafted free agent. This week, USC’s Ezra Ausar signed a deal with the Miami Heat.
After start off his college career at East Carolina and Utah, Ausar transferred to USC for his senior season in 2025-2026. In his lone year with the Trojans, he averaged 14.8 points and 6.5 rebounds per game. One of Ausar’s best performances in Cardinal and Gold came in the Maui Invitational back in November, when he put up 25 points and eight rebounds in an 83-81 victory over Seton Hall.
Now, Ausar is headed to Miami. He will look to compete for a roster spot on a Heat team that should be significantly improved following the recent acquisition of superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo from the Milwaukee Bucks.

KYIV, Ukraine (AP) — Kyiv on Sunday launched new strikes overnight on Russian energy sites. It has also denied Moscow’s claims that a Ukrainian drone struck the Russian-controlled Zaporizhzhia nuclear plant.
Ukraine’s General Staff said Ukrainian drones struck the Saratov oil refinery in southwestern Russia, causing a large-scale fire. It claimed the refinery has been supplying Moscow’s war effort.
The refinery belongs to Russia’s state oil enterprise, Rosneft. Local Russian Gov. Roman Busargin said Ukrainian drones had damaged civilian infrastructure, but did not give details. Astra, an independent Russian news channel, said an oil refinery was on fire in the city of Saratov.
Ukraine has stepped up its attacks on Russia’s oil and gas facilities in recent months, arguing the energy sector funds and directly fuels Moscow’s more than four-year invasion.
“Tonight, our soldiers applied Ukraine’s long-range sanctions against an oil refinery in Saratov, Russia — approximately 700 kilometers (435 miles) from the front line. A significant achievement,” Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy wrote on social media on Sunday.
