US actor Tom Cruise has surprised a British man who spent a year completing a series of extreme sporting challenges to raise money for charity.
Lloyd Kembrey, a facilities manager at the University of Bristol, took on the challenges to fundraise for children's hospice charity Jessie May.
His connection to the charity was born from his twin cousins, Francesca and Josephine, who were diagnosed with the life-limiting condition Sanfilippo disease type A when they were three-and-a-half years old. Both died in their teens.
Kembrey was inspired to undertake a number of exhilarating challenges in order to honour their memory and support other families facing similar circumstances.
The challenges he faced included a 31-mile ice skating ultramarathon in Finland, climbing the height of Mount Everest on a climbing wall and a 94-mile hike along southern England's Jurassic Coast.

An Australian woman went viral after sharing a video of an unusually pristine frozen food section at her local supermarket. The clip showcased rows of products stacked with near-perfect uniformity, with the meticulous organization extending across multiple freezers and different types of frozen goods.
Sarah Mae Ahern, or sarahmaeahern on Instagram, is an Australian musician and content creator whose posts primarily focus on her music career, along with occasional glimpses into life with her husband Alex and their child.
Ahern's breakout viral video, however, came from an unexpected trip to the supermarket. While grocery shopping with her husband, the pair encountered a frozen food section where seemingly every item had been arranged perfectly in place.
They filmed the display and shared it online, where the video amassed nearly 11 million views, more than 610,000 likes and roughly 7,500 comments over the following three months.
"We are looking at how perfectly stacked everything is in this freezer section," Alex says, while Ahern films him as she laughs, before she pans over to said freezers, which display frozen desserts, pastries and ice cream, every product in it neatly organized.

The Treasury Department said that over 60 million children have been automatically enrolled in Trump Accounts, according to guidance filed with the Federal Register.
"Millions of children have already enrolled in Trump Accounts. With automatic enrollment, over 60 million more eligible children now have an account ready to be claimed," Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said in a statement.
The idea behind Trump Accounts is to give children a head start on building wealth. The accounts are a new type of tax-deferred individual retirement account for children. Any eligible child under 18 with a valid Social Security number can open an account, while U.S. citizens born between 2025 and 2028 may also qualify for a one-time $1,000 contribution from the government.
Until now, parents or guardians were required to sign up for accounts on their children's behalf. Participation has been low, however.

Ashley Tisdale's husband, Christopher French, is by her side through any type of drama that might come up in their lives, toxic mom group or otherwise.
In an on-camera interview with Page Six published Wednesday (Sept. 30), the musician opened up about how he and the High School Musical actress are faring these days, nine months after Tisdale published her polarizing The Cut essay about "breaking up" with her "toxic" circle of mom friends. At the time, the internet was abuzz with the realization that the group in question included other stars such as Hilary Duff, Meghan Trainor and Mandy Moore.

Former Intel CEO Pat Gelsinger is backing a startup that thinks AI's next bottleneck is not the accelerator. It is everything waiting for data to arrive.
Delos Data announced on September 15 that it raised more than $100 million to develop networking chips and software for increasingly heterogeneous AI data centers. Playground Global, where Gelsinger is a general partner, joined the round. Reuters reported that Delos is designing the network to work across different types of compute hardware rather than **** uming every accelerator comes from NVIDIA Corporation (NASDAQ:NVDA).
That makes Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. (NASDAQ:AMD) an important read-through even though AMD is not an investor in Delos.
For illustration purposes only. Photo by Brett Sayles on Pexels
Nvidia does not dominate AI simply because its GPUs are fast. NVIDIA Corporation (NASDAQ:NVDA) sells a tightly integrated system of accelerators, networking, interconnects and software. That makes large clusters easier to deploy and gives customers fewer reasons to mix architectures.

Is there any investment market segment more debated than gold (XAUUSD)? I'm not sure there is. We have "gold bugs," including those who see the yellow metal as the ***** et to own when the world goes haywire.
Then, there are the "we're going back on the gold standard" types. The ones that preceded crypto bros in believing fiat currencies weren't for this world. It follows that gold would return to its former role as the reserve currency.

Of course, there are also plenty of investors who don't really think about gold investing very much, and who will simply trade it when there's a good opportunity. I'm in this camp.
Financial media pundits routinely tout gold as some sort of bulletproof allocation. Inflation worries? Own gold. Currency debasement? Own gold. Want your kitchen to be decorated like the Oval Office? You'll need a lot of gold.

The 'half-a-loaf' plan gifts roughly half of excess ***** ets to children, then uses a Medicaid-compliant annuity to bridge the penalty period.
Keeping retained cash in a bank account prevents the penalty clock from starting, since ***** ets above $2,000 disqualify the applicant outright.
One flawed annuity term or miscalculated divisor can unravel the entire plan, making elder law attorney guidance essential before any money moves.

Picture a common scenario in a state where this type of crisis planning is welcome: Dad moves into a nursing home with roughly $200,000 sitting above the $2,000 countable-asset limit that most states use for single Nursing Home Medicaid applicants. His family gifts about $100,000 to the children, then uses the other half to buy a short-term Medicaid-compliant annuity that pays the nursing home while the gift penalty runs. The CLARITY Act failed to pass votes in the Senate earlier this week, a piece of legislature that would set out guardrails and ground rules for crypto **** ets in the U.S. With the failure of passage, the Securities and Exchange Commission took matters into its own hands, passing a conditional exemption Thursday for tokenized stocks. This Innovation Exemption allows for a limited type of tokenized securities to trade on specific Tokenized Securities Venues (TSVs), giving them a 5-year runway to prove their trading chops.
Tokenization is one of the latest trends in the investing world, whereby an **** et is represented digitally on a blockchain. It's seen as the next frontier in finance, with digital trading opening up greater access both for a broader investor base as well as the potential to trade 24/7, while also offering the potential for increased efficiency. However, some argue that tokenized **** ets come with added, unique risks and that by moving investments to the blockchain you introduce greater exposure to bad actors in an as-yet unregulated **** e in the U.S. That is, until now.
The SEC exemption allows for a specific type of tokenized stocks to be traded, specifically ones that retain the investor rights of the stock they are tied to (voting and dividends for example). Only tokenized U.S. National Market System (NMS) stocks qualify that trade through U.S. venues who have established standards for who can trade, limit trading volumes to a certain percentage of the stock, and make public their trading activities as well as any affiliates on the TSV. In addition, venues must halt trading when the primary exchange halts, and leverage is not permitted. Any company that does not want tokenized shares has 30 days to object and prevent their shares from being created.
It's important to note that currently there are two main types of tokenized securities, those that are directly linked to the **** et they represent digitally and those that provide synthetic exposure. Of the two, only the direct exposure tokenized stocks qualify that meet all of the exemption's restrictions.
"The Commission is not cementing today's technology as the standard for tomorrow. Instead, it is allowing the market to evolve, monitoring its development, and using that insight to inform a nimbler and future-ready regulatory framework," SEC Chair Paul Atkins said in a statement.

The Ethereum (CRYPTO: ETH) cryptocurrency is up 5.8% at 2:17 p.m. ET, floating atop a broad surge across the crypto sector. It's the kind of day where you almost expect stablecoins to rise, as the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) moved one step closer to permitting token-based trading of stock-type securities.
And Ethereum would benefit directly if tokenized stocks ever get the SEC's final stamp of approval. The news is a day old, but traders needed time to process the situation after a tumultuous week in which the Clarity Act failed to move forward.
Missed AI's "Act 1"? Act 2 Could Be 15x Bigger. Most investors think they missed the AI boat because they didn't buy Nvidia in 2005. But according to our **** ysts, we're only at the end of "Act 1"—the R&D phase. "Act 2" is the global rollout. Continue »
The SEC is allowing a new kind of venue to trade blockchain versions of regularly listed stocks without first registering as a stock exchange. It's temporary, it's capped, and it comes with strings attached.
This isn't retail investors buying tokenized stocks on a public blockchain tomorrow. It's explicitly a placeholder for further announcements. The tokenized securities venue (TSV) designation is essentially a bold but limited experiment.

Choosing between a niche equipment provider and a diversified industry **** an requires balancing high growth potential against established stability. Here is how Aehr Test Systems (NASDAQ:AEHR) and KLA (NASDAQ:KLAC) compare for investors.
Aehr Test Systems focuses on specific stress-testing solutions for power semiconductors and memory, while KLA provides broad process control tools used across the entire chip-making industry. While they both operate in the same sector, their scale and risk profiles differ significantly, making them attractive to different types of portfolios.
Aehr Test Systems designs and sells specialized equipment for the testing and stabilization of semiconductor products in various forms, including wafers and singulated dies. The company focuses on the high-growth silicon carbide market for electric vehicles and high-bandwidth memory for artificial intelligence infrastructure. In its 2026 fiscal year (FY), which ended May 29, its five largest customers accounted for nearly 70% of net sales, and customer concentration like this adds a layer of risk to the business.
In FY 2026, revenue reached $50.0 million, representing a decline of 15.2% compared to the previous year. This contraction followed a period of higher operating costs, resulting in a net loss of $7.1 million for the period. The net margin, which represents the percentage of revenue remaining as profit after all expenses, was -14.3% in the latest fiscal year.
As of its May 2026 balance sheet, the debt-to-equity ratio is zero, indicating that the company has no debt relative to its shareholder equity. The current ratio, which measures a company's ability to cover short-term liabilities with short-term **** ets, is 10.3x. Free cash flow, defined as cash from operations minus capital expenditures, was a negative $5.4 million for the fiscal year ended in May.

The SEC isn't waiting for clarity with a capital C to give tokenized stocks the go-ahead.
On Thursday, Wall Street's watchdog issued a five-year order allowing trading venues to offer digital representations of company shares. The move ushers in a 24/7 type of trading that proponents say reduces counterparty risk through faster settlement. It also comes just days after the Senate blocked the Clarity Act, which would have provided a regulatory framework for cryptocurrency. The new rule is "designed to resolve challenges that have prevented responsible innovation from taking root in the United States while providing investor protections and market integrity standards," SEC Chairman Paul Atkins said.
The "Innovation Exemption," which has been in the works for more than a year, shows the SEC is willing to set rules that could push crypto-related offerings forward without lawmakers' buy-in at a time when investors are hungry for digital ****** ets and trading firms are eager to meet their demand. That's good news for Robinhood and Coinbase, which both offer tokenized stocks overseas and whose own stocks climbed 5% and 6% respectively on Thursday.

On September 8, 2026, CNBC reported that Novartis AG (NYSE:NVS) shares fell about 10% after the company said its experimental drug del-desiran failed to meet its primary goal in a late-stage trial for myotonic dystrophy type 1.
It marked the company's third clinical setback in a week following the earlier failure of cardiovascular drug pelacarsen and a separate pause of eight trials of cell therapy rap-cel after three patient deaths. The decline erased roughly 24 billion Swiss francs, or about $29.6 billion, in market value and put Novartis on pace for one of its worst trading days in company history.
Remibrutinib provides a major remaining pipeline catalyst since Novartis AG (NYSE:NVS) reported successful late-stage results for remibrutinib in multiple sclerosis. It gives investors a credible growth driver after the failures of pelacarsen and del-desiran. The business expects more remibrutinib data later this year, making the drug an important test of whether its remaining pipeline can help long-term growth.
Novartis still expects 5% to 6% annual sales growth through 2030. Management reaffirmed its full-year financial guidance and maintained its target for 5% to 6% compound annual sales growth from 2025 through 2030. That guidance shows the company still expects its overall portfolio and remaining pipeline ******* ets to offset pressure from aging drugs.
The company retains a diversified commercial portfolio. The del-desiran failure removes a potentially important future revenue contributor, but Novartis still makes substantial revenue from its existing medicines. It also retains other pipeline ******* ets. That diversification gives the firm financial capacity to absorb individual clinical failures while it rebuilds investor confidence in its growth pipeline.

While he stepped down as CEO of Berkshire Hathaway at the end of last year, Warren Buffett's wealth, and thus his portfolio, is still tied to the conglomerate and its stock portfolio. On that end, Berkshire's top-three positions -- consisting of Apple (NASDAQ: AAPL), American Express (NYSE: AXP), and Alphabet (NASDAQ: GOOG) (NASDAQ: GOOGL) (Nasdaq) -- make up more than half of its equity portfolio.
All three are strong compounding businesses with wide moats, but which looks like the best of the group to buy today? Let's take a look at each.
Missed Nvidia in 2009? This Rare Signal Is Flashing Again. In 2009, a "Double Down" signal flashed for a little-known chipmaker called Nvidia. For the first time in years, that same "Total Conviction" signal is flashing for a company 1/100th the size of Nvidia. Continue »
Apple is Berkshire's largest holding, making up about 22% of its portfolio. The stock is a Buffett favorite because it has one of the best compounding business models out there.
Apple, of course, is best known for its iPhone and other devices. Smartphones and computers tend to have very predictable replacement cycles, which creates an almost recurring type of revenue stream for the company. However, the beauty of the business stems from its closed-garden ecosystem that helps lock in consumers, from which it then collects high-margin service revenue. This revenue comes from a variety of sources, including a search revenue-sharing deal with Alphabet, commissions on app downloads, Apple Pay, and subscriptions for things like cloud storage.

Intel (NASDAQ:INTC), the leading chip manufacturer, closed at $108.80, up 7.67%. Shares rose after news reports yesterday of a possible tie-up with SK Hynix (NASDAQ:SKHY). They continued to rise today, even though the South Korean firm issued a statement saying that nothing has been finalized.
Trading volume reached 147.2 million shares, coming in about 35% above its three-month average of 109.0 million shares.
The S&P 500 closed at 7,638, up 1.14%, while the Nasdaq Composite finished at 26,418, up 1.69%. Among semiconductors, Advanced Micro Devices closed at $545.09, up 6.36%, and Qualcomm closed at $188.71, up 2.09%, as chip-sector strength and memory-share momentum lifted the group.
Chip stocks rallied today after a rough week in which interest rate hikes and tech leaders' calls for a slowdown in artificial intelligence (AI) development weighed on the sector. Intel got an extra boost from a deal that may not even materialize: Even a whisper that SK Hynix might, possibly, maybe lease part of its Ohio complex or enter into a joint venture proved tantalizing to investors.
The difficulty with these types of speculative price jumps is that they often aren't sustainable. SK Hynix saying it is "exploring various options" is a long way from signing a deal. More concrete news? Barclays upgraded the stock from "Underperform" to "Overweight." Ultimately, Intel is well-placed to benefit from growing AI demand, but finding a client for its foundry business -- whether or not that's SK Hynix -- would represent a significant win.

In technology, the loudest applause usually comes at the demo, not the delivery. A flashy prototype draws headlines. The unglamorous rollout that actually generates revenue often gets a shrug.
CoreWeave, Inc. (CRWV) just lived that gap. The AI cloud provider rents out Nvidia Corporation (NVDA) chips to companies building artificial intelligence systems.
On Wednesday, September 16, it said it had linked hundreds of Nvidia's newest Rubin GPUs into a single working cluster, not just a test rack, according to the announcement.
For investors, that business model makes CRWV one of the most direct public ways to bet on AI infrastructure demand, without owning a chipmaker outright.
Nvidia, by contrast, is best known as the company that designs the GPUs everyone in the AI race is trying to get their hands on.

If you're thinking about how to maximize your savings, chances are you've come across high-yield savings accounts (HYSAs) and certificates of deposit (CDs). Both can offer competitive interest rates that drastically outpace those of traditional savings accounts. But which account — an HYSA or a CD — will earn you more in one year?
Here's a look at how the earnings on a $10,000 deposit compare over 12 months, based on the interest rate and account type.
On average, savings accounts currently earn just 0.38% APY. However, traditional savings accounts and HYSAs can offer vastly different yields.
For example, a savings account from Chase Bank earns 0.01% APY. Meanwhile, some of the best HYSAs earn above 4% APY.

Ascendis Pharma A/S (NASDAQ:ASND) announced on September 14 that it will regain exclusive rights to develop, manufacture, and commercialize TransCon products in metabolic and cardiovascular diseases following the termination of its collaboration with Novo Nordisk A/S (NYSE:NVO).
The rights include once-monthly TransCon Semaglutide, an investigational long-acting prodrug of semaglutide intended for obesity and type 2 diabetes. Neither party will have continuing financial obligations to the other. Once termination becomes effective and the rights revert, management plans to initiate multiple programs across rare and large indications.
The investment question is whether greater control over future products can justify the resources needed to develop them.
Ascendis Pharma A/S (NASDAQ:ASND) would regain flexibility over which indications to pursue, how quickly to advance candidates, and whether to seek another partner. Successful independent development could retain more of a product's commercial economics, while a new collaboration could provide another way to share costs and risk.
Monthly dosing offers a clear development objective. If clinical studies demonstrate effective treatment with acceptable tolerability, fewer injections could make long-term therapy more convenient. That potential benefit would matter most if it helps patients stay on treatment without sacrificing outcomes.

In late 2022, OpenAI released ChatGPT, and within months the bottom rung of the tech-industry career ladder started to disappear. Graduates who majored in computer science and other AI-exposed fields are increasingly missing out on the jobs they trained for, and a chunk of them are landing behind restaurant counters and retail registers instead, according to two Census Bureau papers.
An April 2026 Census paper tracked matched employer-employee records and found that hiring of workers ages 22 to 24 fell sharply in the industries most exposed to AI, while hiring in less-exposed industries held steady. Employment for early-career workers in the most AI-exposed fifth of industries dropped 12% over the ten quarters after ChatGPT's release. Lee Tucker, one of the coauthors of the paper, said "the decline in hires is the primary cause" of that rate of unemployment, not people losing jobs they already had.
That mattered most for one type of graduate. The most AI-exposed industries, Tucker found, cluster heavily around software and information-technology work, which are the very fields computer science and other highly AI-exposed majors are built to feed into.
A second paper from last week, also coauthored by Tucker, follows the graduates of the most AI-exposed decile of college majors. Their odds of holding a job one quarter after graduation fell by five percentage points, and full-quarter initial earnings dropped 13% following ChatGPT's release. A 13% earnings decline is roughly the size economists would expect from graduating into a severe recession—except there wasn't one, since the rest of the labor market held up fine.
Young grads still need to work and still have jobs, even if they've received highly exposed degrees. So the decline in earnings is less about a lack of employment and more about pursuing lower-wage occupations to make ends meet.

Travel credit cards offer points and miles rewards on your spending, which you can use toward travel-related redemptions, such as flights, hotel stays, and car rentals. You'll often earn the highest rewards rate on travel purchases with a travel credit card. However, many also offer boosted rewards on everyday purchases like groceries, gas, and more.
When you're comparing travel credit cards, it's useful to separate them into two distinct types: general travel rewards cards and co-branded airline and hotel credit cards.
With a general travel credit card, you'll have a number of flexible redemption options when you're ready to redeem your points and miles.
Travel card issuers generally have their own travel portals, like Chase Travel or American Express Travel, where you can book flights, hotels, rental cars, and more. These programs also have a number of travel transfer partners to which you can directly transfer points or miles. For example, American Express Membership Rewards points transfer to Delta SkyMiles at a rate of 1:1.
The flexibility of general travel cards means you can use your rewards to travel with different airlines or hotel brands. Each time you're ready to book, simply shop around between the portal or partners and compare the best options for your specific travel plans.

On August 25, Aptiv (NYSE:APTV) said it will support NVIDIA's newly announced Jetson Orin Nano 2 processor, extending a partnership that already covers the more powerful Jetson Thor platform. The move puts Aptiv squarely inside the buildout of "physical AI," the term for machines like drones, robots, and industrial systems that need to sense and react to the real world in real time. For a company still just months removed from spinning off its electrical distribution business, betting on edge robotics is a statement about where it thinks the next decade of growth actually lives.
NVIDIA's Jetson Orin Nano 2 packs 78 TOPS of processing power into an 8GB, 8-core Arm chip that doubles the inference speed of its predecessor while cutting power draw by 40% at equivalent performance. That kind of efficiency gain matters for battery-powered devices like delivery drones and mobile robots, where every watt saved extends run time. Aptiv isn't just supplying compute support; it is layering in its PULSE surround-view camera and radar system for 360-degree sensing, its Gen 8 radar for object detection in tough conditions, and Wind River software to handle the unglamorous but essential work of long-term maintenance and security updates. That full-stack approach is the pitch: instead of stitching together sensors, chips, and software from separate vendors, customers get one partner who can carry a device from prototype to a fleet running in the field.
The timing lines up with what Aptiv reported in its second-quarter results on August 4, 2026. Revenue reached $3.3 billion, up 2%, while adjusted EBITDA climbed to $613 million from $547 million a year earlier, pushing margins to 18.7% from 17.1%. CEO Kevin Clark pointed to double-digit growth in non-automotive revenue, progress moving robotics from partnership talks to actual commercial deployments, and a major drone industry win secured in early July. North America sales rose 10% and Asia Pacific grew 6%, including 5% growth in China, giving the company some geographic momentum to lean on as it chases this new business line.
The quarter wasn't clean underneath the headline numbers. Free cash flow came in at just $12 million in the second quarter, down from $219 million a year earlier, and the first half of 2026 actually posted negative free cash flow of $196 million versus a positive $264 million a year ago. Operating cash flow from continuing operations fell to $82 million for the first half, down sharply from $531 million. Management also flagged automotive demand and customer mix as an incremental headwind, a reminder that Aptiv's legacy business still carries real weight even as it chases robotics and drones. EMEA revenue dropped 8%, and South America fell 4% in the quarter, both drags even as North America and Asia Pacific grew.

On September 11, Elastic (NYSE:ESTC) rolled out Elasticsearch Vector Database, a new serverless offering the company says lets developers ship large-scale vector search and AI applications without stitching together the usual pile of infrastructure themselves. The launch landed less than three weeks after Elastic posted first-quarter fiscal 2027 results on August 27, for the period ended July 31, giving investors a fresh product story to weigh against a quarter that already showed accelerating growth.
The new database automates what used to require manual **** embly: chunking documents, hosting embedding and reranking models, configuring indexes, and wiring query-time retrieval. Elastic built in expert-tuned defaults, a single field type that handles indexing, embeddings, and chunking together, and hybrid search that combines full-text and vector retrieval in one query. The system scales to hundreds of billions of vectors using Elastic's Better Binary Quantization, which the company says shrinks vector memory by up to 32 times while keeping recall high, and pricing is based on data and search capacity rather than the opaque compute units the company says define most pure-play vector database pricing.
That product push follows a quarter that was already running hot. Total revenue reached $478 million in the first quarter of fiscal 2027, up 15% year over year, while current remaining performance obligations grew 21% and remaining performance obligations grew 27%. Sales-led subscription revenue, which strips out Monthly Elastic Cloud, grew 18% year over year to $399 million, outpacing the company's overall subscription growth.
Elastic added more customers with annual contract value above $100,000 than in any prior quarter, pushing that cohort past 1,800 from over 1,720 in the fourth quarter of fiscal 2026 and over 1,550 a year earlier. Net expansion rate held around 111%, and the company generated $143 million in adjusted free cash flow during the quarter. Guidance for the second quarter of fiscal 2027, ending October 31, calls for revenue of $486 million to $487 million and a swing to positive GAAP operating margin, with full fiscal 2027 non-GAAP operating margin guided to roughly 19.4%, up from 16.2% in the quarter just reported.
Growth came with a reminder that Elastic has not fully crossed into GAAP profitability. The company posted a GAAP operating loss of $24 million in the first quarter of fiscal 2027, a -5% operating margin, and a GAAP net loss per share of $0.16. Non-GAAP figures told a healthier story, with $77 million in non-GAAP operating income and $0.70 in non-GAAP diluted earnings per share, but the gap between the two measures shows how much of Elastic's reported profitability still depends on excluding real costs like stock-based compensation.
