Jessica Chastain cried on command and showed off her sinister "Other Mommy" smile on "Jimmy Kimmel Live!," earning praise from the internet Thursday.
The Academy Award-winning actress taught the late-night host and his audience how she crafted the creepy smile for her upcoming horror film. She shared that the trick was to hold tension in her body while plastering on a fake smile.
Chastain shook slightly as she locked into the expression, dropping a single tear as she stared down the camera lens.
"You just spurted out that tear with no problem like that?" the late night host asked.
"I'm a trained actress, Jimmy," she replied.

Christa Pike is "up and walking" in the hospital after surviving last week's failed attempt to execute her in Tennessee, a member of her legal team said Thursday.
Lawyer Stephen Ferrell told the BBC that he had learned she was moving around her hospital room, although he had not spoken to her.
"What's been described to me is that physically there's quite a bit going on, that her arms are very injured and she's not able to use them very much," he said. "She is up and walking for the first time today, but just around the room, not very far."
Ferrell described her mental state as "kind of good and bad," adding, "Good that she is fairly with it, but she's also somewhat foggy. She can lose her train of thought really easily and forgets where she's going."
He said he ****** umed Pike's situation would "keep improving," but added that "there could be some permanent damage. We don't know that yet."

Red carpet fashion does not always stop at an extraordinary dress. Some stars have taken transformation much further, using prosthetics, sculptural makeup and elaborate accessories to turn themselves into fantastical characters. From fairy inspired beauty to feline features and even a dramatic peacock transformation, these looks blurred the boundaries between fashion, makeup and performance art. Ariana Grande, Karol G, Doja Cat, Rita Ora and Heidi Klum have all experimented with this theatrical approach. Rather than simply complementing their outfits, the unusual additions became essential parts of the overall illusion.
At the 2024 Met Gala, Ariana Grande embraced an ethereal aesthetic in a custom Loewe creation. The look combined an iridescent corseted bodice with a flowing pleated skirt, but some of its most memorable details appeared around her eyes. Delicate three dimensional wings extended from her face, adding a fairy like quality that worked naturally with the event's Garden of Time theme.
Karol G also entered a fantasy world at the same Met Gala. Wearing a crystal covered Marc Jacobs gown, the Colombian singer added prosthetic elf ears that transformed the glamorous ensemble into something more otherworldly. A sparkling headpiece and green jewels enhanced the effect, creating an interpretation that seemed to belong in an enchanted forest.
Doja Cat took transformation even further at the 2023 Met Gala, where the evening celebrated the work of Karl Lagerfeld. She referenced Lagerfeld's famous cat Choupette with a custom Oscar de la Renta gown featuring a hood with cat ears and a feathered train. Prosthetic facial features completed the transformation, giving her a feline appearance while preserving the elegance expected from a major fashion event.
Rita Ora demonstrated how prosthetics could create drama from an otherwise restrained silhouette at the 2024 Fashion Awards in London. She wore a backless black Primark gown that revealed an extraordinary prosthetic structure running down her back. The sculpted spikes resembled a reptilian or prehistoric spine, turning the exposed skin itself into part of the fashion statement.

Caitríona Balfe joined her co-star Daisy Edgar-Jones for the Sense and Sensibility LA premiere, held at The United Theater on Wednesday.
Earl Gibson III/Deadline via Getty Images
The Irish actress wore a custom Prada pearl-grey silk-wool column dress with an embroidered carré extending into a geometric train in black cotton organza, a detail drawn from the Fall 2026 collection.
The column silhouette and fabric are classic Prada, but it's the embroidered carré cascading into that black train that introduces a romantic element, making this an appropriate choice for a Jane Austen adaptation. I particularly love the contrast between the grey dress and the sheer black overlay.
We could be nitpicky and say the dress needed to be half an inch shorter to avoid that slight break at the hem. We could also question the visible darts, although they're a familiar Prada detail. But despite those minor issues, Caitríona is selling this look to me.

Halle Berry's daughter, Nahla Aubry, has defended her mother against child abuse allegations.
Last week, the Oscar-winning actress's ex-husband, Olivier Martinez, filed legal documents in which he alleged Berry had recently physically attacked their 12-year-old son Maceo.
A Los Angeles County judge granted the Unfaithful star a temporary restraining order, requiring Berry to stay 100 yards (91 metres) from him until the next hearing on 16 October.
The Catwoman actress denied all allegations made by Martinez, and in a declaration obtained by People on Wednesday, Nahla insisted Berry is a "loving and devoted parent".
"I never observed anything abusive about her parenting," the 18-year-old began. "I have never seen my mom hit, slap, choke, grab, or physically abuse Maceo in any way. I have never seen my mom place her hands around Maceo's neck, put him in a chokehold, restrict his breathing, or engage in any conduct remotely resembling the allegations that have been made against her."
Additionally, Nahla emphasised that Berry has "always made time for" her two children alongside her work commitments and "coordinates" their schedules so they can spend as much time together as possible.

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are allegedly "wildly unhappy," but their marriage is not the biggest problem. A royal commentator recently claimed the couple was not happy during their time in California. He also stated the duo has different passions, which strain their relationship.
Meghan Markle and Prince Harry reportedly clash over what makes them happy (via The Daily Beast). Founder of Celebrity Intelligence, cultural commentator Dan Wakeford, told The Royalist's Tom Sykes, "The 'wildly unhappy' came not from within their relationship in their life right now. It was their life in America they were wildly unhappy about."
"They were wildly unhappy with how things had gone, and they hadn't gone how they expected. I don't think they could find—think of a way out of that. And so it's very interesting," he added.
He further said that while the return to the UK has made Harry happier, the same is not true for Meghan Markle, a Los Angeles native. He explained, "The problem with this couple is you have two people with completely different goals in life and geographical, like, homes."
Wakeford said that according to his sources, the Sussexes are "very much in love," but they conflict on what true happiness looks like for either of them. "They're not on the same page with where they're going in life, whether that's living in England or living in America, whether that is philanthropy or a glamorous Hollywood lifestyle brand," he said.

After acquiring a restraining order against Dolly Parton's nephew Bryan Seaver, her company is leveling allegations that he implemented evasive measures to avoid being served legal documents in the case.
Lawyers for She's Alive, LLC. – also known as SAL, which Parton established to protect her professional property and business interests upon her death – submitted court filings on Oct. 5 pushing back against Seaver's request to delay the next court hearing so he would have time to meet with his new legal counsel.
One of the reasons, they allege, was that on three occasions he "attempted to evade service of process, and this Court should not reward that behavior."

Alan Ritchson and his wife, Catherine, are putting a positive spin on their shock divorce, but friends of the former couple are bracing themselves for a messy situation in the months ahead, a source tells the National Enquirer.
"People around Alan were pretty shocked at the timing of this break-up, especially because being an involved, sensitive dad has been central to Alan's identity for so long," reveals the source. "That's still the thing he's most broken up about with this divorce: it's going to mean less time with [sons Calem, Edan and Amory] and there's almost nothing he can do about that."
After twenty years of marriage, the Reacher star, 43, and his writer-producer wife, 42, announced their split in a joint Instagram post on September 12, pledging to become the "strongest co-parents" they can be. "We also want to give each other room to grow into the people we are becoming," the statement read.
"[Alan] was quite protective of Catherine and the kids when the Reacher series first got started, and then the show kind of took over everything and made him richer and way more famous than he ever expected," admits the source. "It's a lot to go through in just a few short years, and Alan's insane training schedule, completely apart from the long filming days, didn't make things easier."

There's zero chance that Halle Berry and ex-husband Olivier Martinez will reach a compromise amid their battle over 13-year-old son Maceo, a source tells Star.
"The hatred between these two is off the charts," reveals the source. "There's years and years of ugly history."
On Thursday, October 1, People reported that the Unfaithful actor, 60, was granted a temporary restraining order against the Oscar-winning actress, 60, as well as modified visitation after he accused her of physically abusing Maceo.
"Olivier's accusing Halle of being dangerous and saying he needs to protect their son from her, which is something she vehemently denies," reveals the source. "She's furious and says all Olivier is doing is trying to alienate her son from her."
In documents obtained by Star, the Monster's Ball actress asked that their former custody agreement, which grants her 50/50 custody and tie-breaking authority, be reinstated and that Martinez be forced to attend court-ordered therapy sessions.

Michael Douglas isn't holding back.
In his explosive new memoir "One ***** uva Ride" (out now), the Oscar-winning "Wall Street" icon whisks us behind the curtain of his wild five-decade career, sharing revealing new anecdotes about "Fatal Attraction," "Basic Instinct," "The War of the Roses" and more.
The actor opens up about his 2010 throat cancer battle and strained early relationship with father Kirk Douglas. Douglas, 82, also details how he and his "Romancing the Stone" costar, Kathleen Turner, "fell hard" for each other while he was still married to producer Diandra Luker.
Here are some of the other biggest revelations from "One ***** uva Ride":
Early in the book, Douglas recalls his Oscar-winning work as a producer on "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest," which led to him producing and starring in 1979's "The China Syndrome." During that time, the actor struggled in his first marriage to Luker and what he called a "dual life," which included excessive amounts of drugs and partying.

Halle Berry spent Sunday with her son, Maceo, before asking a Los Angeles judge to restore the parenting arrangement she previously shared with ex-husband Olivier Martinez. Her request, filed Monday, Oct. 5, seeks a return to their 2023 agreement for 50/50 custody, Entertainment Weekly reported.
A temporary restraining order issued Oct. 1 changed Berry's parenting time but allowed her to continue seeing her son during specified daytime hours. The order covered both Martinez and Maceo, according to records reviewed by PEOPLE.
Martinez sought protection after alleging that Berry physically attacked Maceo during a Sept. 26 dispute. Her attorney, Marina Beck, denied his account and called the filing "entirely meritless and deliberately misleading."
Berry, 60, was accompanied on the Oct. 4 visit by her fiancé, musician Van Hunt. They spent time together one day before Maceo's 13th birthday.
An eyewitness told PEOPLE that Berry chatted with Maceo at a Los Angeles Sky Zone before he joined an indoor soccer game. She and Hunt watched from nearby. When a fan approached for a selfie, Berry declined because she was spending time with her child. TMZ also published BACKGRID footage of the trio shopping at Best Buy that day.

Christy Carlson Romano is looking back on her time working with Even Stevens co-star Shia LaBeouf
Despite writing in her new memoir that it felt as though executives tried to "pit [Shia and me] against each other," Romano doesn't blame Disney for their tense relationship

Sophie Okonedo is one of my favourite celebrities, so I was delighted to see her back on the red carpet for the Clarissa press tour. However, while looking back at her appearances today, I realised that I completely missed her at the film's Cannes Film Festival premiere. So that is where I'm going to start.
Earl Gibson III/Deadline via Getty Images
Since Sophie has always had an affinity for simple silhouettes with dramatic accents, this custom Dior feather-trimmed dress made perfect sense for her.
What I appreciate most is that the feathers aren't treated as an embellishment confined to one area. They trace the asymmetric neckline before sweeping around the skirt and into the train, giving the black dress the kind of personality Sophie's red carpet looks tend to have. It's glamorous, but still feels entirely within her wheelhouse.
I think the new hair colour and style may have been the reason she slipped under my radar in Cannes. I'm so accustomed to seeing Sophie with her signature cornrows that I genuinely didn't recognise her at first.

Christy Carlson Romano knows how to play a role, but finding herself has proven to be her greatest performance.
The Emmy-nominated actress and Disney Channel alum looks back on her turbulent upbringing in the spotlight in her debut memoir "Once Upon a Trainwreck: The Fall and Rise of a Child Star" (out now).
Romano, alongside fellow Disney darlings Shia LaBeouf, Hilary Duff and Raven-Symoné, epitomized teen stardom in the early 2000s, appearing in beloved TV shows and movies such as "Even Stevens," "Cadet Kelly" and "Kim Possible."
Despite her success, Romano often felt adrift in young Hollywood, intimidated by the upper echelons of prime-time dramas and glossy magazine covers.
"Looking back, I was really just trying to fit into whatever opportunity was thrown my way, rather than kind of create my own identity so that opportunities would find me in a different light," Romano tells USA TODAY. "I didn't have a stylist or a publicist, and I didn't really invest in myself the way that maybe I should have, to get to know exactly who I wanted to be, even if [that] changed over the years."

Courtiers are trying to orchestrate a truce between Prince William and Prince Harry in the hopes of getting the estranged brothers together to talk about doing a tribute to Princess Diana for the 30th anniversary of her death next year, a source tells Star.
"Harry is all for it, but William's refused," spills the source.
The siblings' relationship has been strained since Harry, 42, and Meghan Markle stepped down as senior working members of the royal family in 2020 and has only deteriorated after their 2021 tell-all interview and Harry's 2023 memoir, Spare.
Even the Sussexes' recent return to the U.K. with their two young children, Prince Archie, 7, and Princess Lilibet, 5, hasn't eased tensions between the brothers.
"He's acting like they don't even exist," the source reveals. "Harry is genuinely shocked that there's not even been a shred of forgiveness on William's part."

A recent candid photo of Meghan Markle and Prince Harry going on a lunch date has sparked fresh debate online. The images show the couple holding hands in the Cotswolds, and while most saw a normal couple spending time together, one commentator sees something else in them. He questions how the pictures came about and what they might signal about the Sussexes.
Commentator Link Lauren shared his views in a video clip posted on X where he spoke about the couple's "romantic pub date" and their "first photos together since UK return." Lauren questioned how the photos were taken. "You want me to believe that a photographer just happened to catch you on a little date night in the Cotswolds?" he asked. He said Meghan Markle "allegedly" arranges such moments and also remarked that her face looked "a little bit facetuned."
He then offered his own theory. In his view, the couple licensed the pictures to an agency. "That's what I believe," he said. The commentator also looked at the photographer's website. He said it invites visitors to "earn money" by sending in celebrity photos, videos, and tips. He went on to suggest that Meghan may have even worked with the photographer.
The source noted his interpretation of the strain between the couple. Lauren pointed to Prince Harry's schedule, saying that the Duke of Sussex has appeared at several charity events without Meghan in recent times. "It's pretty much known across the UK at this point in aristocratic circles and the press. They are conscious uncoupling," he claimed.
As a result, Lauren argued that the hand-holding photos were a response to this. Meghan, he said, wanted to be seen "staking her claim" over her husband. Lauren also pointed to the couple's reported plans to split time between the UK and the US. He said that this arrangement made the public display of unity more notable.

Michael Burry called the market's mood "denial," comparing it with 2000 and 2008 and suggesting that phase could last six to nine months.
Ray Dalio warned of a possible U.S. debt crisis within three years as rising interest costs crowd out spending.
Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent offered a contrasting outlook, saying growth and spending restraint would help the government start "bending the curve."
"The Big Short" investor Michael Burry warned on Tuesday that investors were in "denial" reminiscent of 2000 and 2008, hours after the Nasdaq closed at a record, while Ray Dalio separately cautioned that mounting debt could push the U.S. into a crisis within three years.
"The stock market is quite obviously in its first stage of grief, denial. Per 2000 and 2008, this stage lasts 6-9 months," Burry said on X.

Dolly Parton's estate says yellow caution tape and barbed wire crisscrossed the steps to her nephew Bryan Seaver's front door as a process server was making repeated attempts to serve him with a lawsuit accusing him of using a "campaign of threats" to "extract money" from the late music icon's business interests.
Lawyers for the estate filed a photo of the alleged barricade as they urged a judge to deny Seaver's request for additional time to find a lawyer in the messy legal dispute. They also argued that Seaver's security company missed a deadline last week to challenge an emergency restraining order granted in the case, so the order should therefore be converted into a permanent injunction covering both the company and Seaver himself, as its chief. A hearing on the matter is set for Friday, Oct. 9, unless the court grants Seaver's request for more time to hire an attorney.

Halle Berry is seeking to restore the 50-50 custody agreement of her 13-year-old son Maceo with ex Olivier Martinez.
Martinez accused Berry of abusing Maceo in a suit filed last week, which sought both full custody of Maceo and an emergency restraining order against Berry, which was granted.
Berry claims that Martinez has worked to prejudice their son against her, explaining that Maceo often repeats Martinez's side of their private arguments to her, and returns from his care "angry and combative."
Halle Berry is asking a court to restore the 50-50 custody agreement of her 13-year-old son Maceo with ex Olivier Martinez.
That agreement was established in 2023 as their divorce was finalized, eight contentious years after the couple formally separated. Last week, Martinez accused Berry of abusing Maceo in a stunning lawsuit that sought both full custody and an emergency restraining order against Berry. That order was granted the following day, meaning Berry must stay away from her ex and their son for a temporary period, and a judge also restricted Berry's visitation rights.

LONDON — A British Airways passenger jet flying from London to Chicago descended 28,000 feet in just seven minutes after declaring an emergency due to an unspecified “technical issue,” the airline said Monday.
The Boeing 777 took off at 12:15 p.m. local time (7:15 a.m. ET) but started descending just 30 minutes later while flying over Ireland, according to flight-tracking website FlightAware.
The plane turned around and spent around four hours zigzagging over the Bristol Channel, a waterway to the west of England, before landing back at London Heathrow Airport at 5 p.m. local time (noon ET).
“The aircraft landed safely after our highly-trained pilots returned to Heathrow following a technical issue,” British Airways said in an emailed statement. “Customers disembarked the aircraft normally and our teams are working to get their travel plans back on track as quickly as possible.”
Heathrow did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Halle Berry is asking a Los Angeles court to restore the 50/50 custody arrangement she previously shared with ex-husband Olivier Martinez, alleging that their 12-year-old son, Maceo, returns from time with his father "angry and combative."
She is also asking to regain the tie-breaking authority she held under the 2023 agreement and wants the court to require Martinez to attend their ordered therapy sessions. Those requests put decision-making power and the stalled co-parenting process back at the center of the dispute.
Berry's filing arrives days after Martinez sought sole custody and obtained a temporary restraining order against her over allegations that she physically abused their son. Berry has strongly denied those accusations, turning the former couple's long-running co-parenting dispute into an even more complicated court battle.

According to PEOPLE, Berry alleged that Martinez has repeatedly tried to align Maceo with him and against her when disagreements arise over their son's life.

The issue of Daniel Penny, the center of a New York City vigilante case in which he unintentionally ended the life of Jordan Neely following a subway confrontation, is the focus of a new book. Frequent MS NOW guest Anand Giridharadas is out promoting his work, Man in the Mirror.
His interviews seen during the media promotional tour do not give the impression of an unbiased approach to this topic. Instead of describing core facts and the details that pertain to the confrontation on the New York subway car, Giridharadas delivers what sounds more like a college term paper-level of pontificating.
Sitting with Christiane Amanpour, the Heat Miser-coiffed Anand offers up a theory that Neely, Penny, and others on the subway car were experiencing something that is felt across the country:
Jordan Neely, you know, a mentally ill, homeless man, felt abandoned by the systems of care. Daniel Penny felt abandoned by a lack of police and a lack of law enforcement that forced him, in his mind, to step up and step in. The passengers on that train…spoke of their own sense of abandonment and kind of being left to their own devices. And, Christiane, I think that sense of abandonment, that sense that the cavalry's not coming, the sense that we're on our own, the sense that maybe somebody does something because no one who should be doing anything is doing anything. I believe, Christiane, that is the defining political emotion of this age. It is maybe the most dangerous emotion in a democracy, because it starts to tempt people with the thought that if ******* ody's coming, I must fill the void. In this case, it was Daniel Penny filling a void in a subway in New York.
This is the selling of the concept that we need government in more, if not all, aspects of our lives. If Jordan Neely had been given proper mental healthcare and housing, if there had been police on that train car, if Daniel Penny had not felt abandoned by authorities, this tragedy would not have played out. If every person in the country is cared for by the government, we will have no problems!

Michael Douglas hit back at a decades-old rumor that he went to rehab for an alleged *** addiction during a strained interview published Sunday by the U.K.'s Sunday Times.
Douglas, 82, was discussing his new memoir, "One **** uva Ride," with British journalist Decca Aitkenhead. She reminded him that he wrote about having to break things off with five women before becoming monogamous with actor Catherine Zeta-Jones, whom he married in 2000 shortly after the end of his first marriage, to Diandra Luker.

"No, no, it's not what it was," the actor told Aitkenhead of how he became monogamous with his now-wife. "What Catherine said is, if we're going to continue this, then I want it to be monogamous. And so I therefore, that evening, you know, made some calls to some people I was seeing, and that was that."
In her article, Aitkenhead writes that Douglas then gives her an expression that "suggests that he thinks he's just corrected me."
