Sept 8 (Reuters) - A U.S. appeals court on Tuesday upheld an injunction blocking an Internal Revenue Service policy that allowed it to share thousands of taxpayers' ‌addresses with immigration authorities, saying the Trump administration's practice violated federal law.
A three-judge panel of ‌the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit ruled that the IRS last year disclosed roughly 47,000 taxpayer addresses to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement under a procedure adopted as part of the administration's efforts to expand immigration enforcement.
The IRS and U.S. Department of Homeland Security, which oversees ICE, did not respond to requests for comment.
Under an agreement between the agencies, the IRS in July 2025 began processing ICE ‌requests for the last known addresses ⁠of as many as 1.28 million people suspected of unlawfully residing in the United States.

A Florida grand jury found that Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis' administration "misappropriated" $10 million in taxpayer money it diverted to a charity connected to his wife, but it declined to file criminal charges due to a lack of evidence indicating who specifically was responsible.
DeSantis on Thursday did not dispute the legitimacy of the secret grand jury report obtained and published online by CBS News Miami, but he insisted no laws were broken and said whoever leaked the sealed documents would face "consequences."
The Leon County grand jury completed its report in January on investigations into Hope Florida, the charity started in 2021 by Florida first lady Casey DeSantis. Despite the lack of charges, the report ignited a new round of criticism aimed at DeSantis and other top state Republicans over the charity receiving $10 million from a state Medicaid settlement intended to help poor children get health insurance.
David Jolly, the Democratic nominee for governor, called for the grand jury probe to be reopened. He faces Republican Byron Donalds in November. DeSantis, under Florida law, cannot seek a third term.

The Los Angeles Lakers failed in their quest to sign Jonathan ***** inga in free agency, with the forward opting to join the Minnesota Timberwolves instead. The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) issued a new proposed rule for H-1B visas on Monday that would charge a $103,265 fee for all workers seeking to gain employment in the U.S. who are subject to the annual statutory cap.
Notice of the proposed rule says the fee would be used for the federal government's costs of administering the lawful immigration system, including activities carried out by the DHS and the departments of Justice, State and Labor.
"The proposed H‑1B fee is intended to recover the costs incurred across the federal government to adjudicate, vet, and support lawful immigration programs that otherwise must be funded by taxpayers," U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services spokesperson Zach Kahler said in a release.
The move follows a federal judge's decision in June to strike down the Trump administration's previously proposed $100,000 fee for H-1B visa applications.
U.S. District Judge Leo Sorokin ruled that it was unlawful to implement a tax on visa applications, as Congress is the only legislative body with the authority to set immigration policy and taxes.

The Indian Government has launched a one-time tax disclosure scheme allowing small taxpayers to report certain undisclosed foreign ***** ets and income by 31 December 2026.
The Foreign ***** ets of Small Taxpayers–Disclosure Scheme (FAST-DS) was announced in the 2026–27 Union Budget.
The Income Tax Department said the move seeks to bring eligible overseas ***** ets and earnings into the tax net, while providing relief from additional penalties and prosecution.
According to a Reuters report, the scheme applies to taxpayers with undisclosed foreign income of up to Rs10m ($104,614).
For this category, the tax rate is 30%, along with an additional amount equal to the tax, resulting in a 60% effective levy on the disclosed sum.

A U.S. judge on Monday blocked plans to move the FBI's headquarters to a federal office building in Washington, finding that President Donald Trump's administration illegally tossed out a previously approved plan to build a new facility nearby in Maryland.
The ruling is the latest development in a yearslong battle over where to house the main office for the nation's premier law enforcement agency. A site in Greenbelt, Maryland, was picked during former President Joe Biden's administration, but Trump appointees sought to reverse that decision last year in favor of repurposing the Ronald Reagan Building, a federal office complex a few blocks from the FBI's existing headquarters.
U.S. District Judge Theodore D. Chuang, an appointee of President Barack Obama, ruled that the move was " not in accordance with law," and blocked the Trump administration from moving the FBI to the Reagan building, renovating it for the FBI or repurposing funds.
"This is not the first time courts have tried to undermine the administration in its goal to make government more cost-effective for American taxpayers," the FBI said in a statement. "The court has chosen to impermissibly intervene for political reasons. This FBI is mission focused and will continue the best course of action to meet the needs of law enforcement."
The suit was brought by the state of Maryland and Prince George's County.

Privia Health (NASDAQ:PRVA) just turned in a quarter that checked every box management set for itself, and then raised the bar again for the rest of the year. On the company's August 6 earnings call, CEO Parth Mehrotra and CFO David Mountcastle laid out a business adding doctors, patients, and cash at a pace that has held for nine straight years. The question is whether the market is pricing in the streak continuing.
Privia's numbers move together. Implemented providers grew 10.1% year-over-year to 5,644, adding 109 physicians in the quarter alone, while value-based attributed lives climbed 19.2%. That combination pushed practice collections up 12.4% to $970 million in the second quarter and 13.4% to $1.88 billion for the first half. Adjusted EBITDA rose 29% to $37.4 million, with margin as a share of care margin expanding 310 basis points to 28.3%, a sign the business is getting more profitable as it scales, not just bigger.
In late May, Privia entered New Jersey, its 25th state, through a partnership with the Urology Group of Bergen County covering 25 clinicians. Commercial attributed lives rose 11.7% to 942,000, while CMS Medicare lives jumped 55%. The company now oversees an estimated $15.7 billion in total medical spend across more than 130 value-based programs, and gross provider retention has averaged 98% over the past three years. Management raised 2026 guidance across practice collections, care margin, GAAP revenue, platform contribution, and EBITDA, with attributed lives already tracking above the prior high end.
The growth story comes with a few strings attached. Privia became a full cash taxpayer this year, and management expects only 70% to 80% of full-year adjusted EBITDA to convert to free cash flow, a figure that ***** umes the company collects a significant chunk of its 2025 shared savings payments by year-end. That ***** umption now has a complication: CMS proposed changes to the Medicare Shared Savings Program for performance year 2025 that could delay final reconciliation results until November, which management says could create an atypical year-end cash flow pattern even though the accrual impact looks minimal.
The company also holds $412 million in cash with no debt, which is a comfortable cushion, but its raised guidance still ***** umes no additional business development activity, meaning any acquisitions would be upside not yet baked in.

• A "malicious actor" claimed on Wednesday he broke into the tax agency, General Direction of Public Finances, in ‌late June, ⁠the ministry said in a statement.
• Investigations confirmed the ⁠cyberattack, which led to the consulting and extraction of taxpayers' data, the statement said.
• Further probes are ongoing to ‌determine which specific data and the exact number of taxpayers affected, the ministry said, adding further findings will be disclosed.

Black bishop and author Earl Walker Jackson, a descendant of enslaved ancestors, is criticizing the Smithsonian National Museum of American History for what he said amounts to anti-American "indoctrination" against the "greatest nation on earth."
Although his great-grandparents were enslaved, Jackson believes that "if you were born an American, you hit the proverbial lottery because you have more opportunity and hope than any people living anywhere else on the planet."
