With their sights set on securing their fourth win of the tournament, Chivas are ready for another Apertura 2026 challenge. Guadalajara are already in the capital of San Luis Potosí, where they will visit Atlético de San Luis at Estadio Libertad Financiera in a Jornada 7 matchup.
Ahead of this game, Gabriel Milito and his coaching staff have selected the 22 players who make up the rojiblanca squad, with an important return to the Rebaño standing out and generating plenty of anticipation among Chivahermanos.
What are the changes to the squad?
Daniel Aguirre has been included in the squad and could make an appearance against the Potosinos.
Miguel Gómez experienced intense pain during one of the training sessions. After undergoing the corresponding imaging studies, it was confirmed that he has suffered a muscle injury. His return to competition will depend on his recovery.

"It's going to be $1," Josefina Aguirre said to a customer, pausing an interview with Fox News Digital inside her family's Spanish Harlem meat market.
"Okay, I'm sorry. I got a couple of customers. Let's start over," Aguirre, a first-generation American, said. "This is me," she added with a laugh from behind the counter where she has worked for the past 30 years.
Aguirre is among the neighborhood grocers suing New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani over his plan to open city-backed grocery stores across all five boroughs. He says the plan will offer shoppers prices roughly 30% lower than comparable retailers. Local business owners argue it will force small local-run stores to shutter.
Experts Scorch Mamdani's Grocery Plan As An 'Illusion' That Will Have Taxpayers Footing The Bill
"When we heard Mamdani was opening a grocery store where people are gonna save 30%, it scares us because we don't have the money to compete," Aguirre said.

What are the early indicators, for better or worse? These are a few.
1.) Can NC State's defense be more consistently disruptive on passing plays? State's defense was really, really bad on passing downs last season—its havoc rate stunk, it was bad on a per-play basis, from an EPA basis, from pretty much every basis. Whole thing was ugly.
Virginia doesn't have a skill position group that's scaring anybody, and as long as Beau Pribula is the starting quarterback—which I don't think will last long—then the ceiling there is pretty low. But if he has four seconds to make a decision every time he drops back, he's going to look like Joe Montana. The battle between UVA's offensive line and State's defense might be the only thing that really matters in this game.
2.) Is CJ Bailey ready to be the kind of quarterback who can carry a team to a big win? The pressure is on now. Everybody knows what kind of player Bailey is, and what he can be—and he's being paid to deliver. Is he ready to handle it? He's working with a brand new bunch of receivers, and he is going to have to improvise for State to have success offensively. There will be breakdowns and misunderstandings and he will need to fix a few things in the moment to keep the ball moving. It's Week 0 and maybe the biggest game of his career so far.
3.) How good are Harvey Dyson and Popo Aguirre? NC State is counting on both to be important; I think it's fair to say both are high-floor guys, but can they be good enough to make the defense substantially better? Aguirre has the most work ahead of him on that one, and if he ends up a clear difference-maker, that changes the expectations for the defense. The margins for success on this defense are extremely small—if either of these guys has an off day, if either gets hurt, it's extremely bad news.

Chivas forward Armando "Hormiga" Gonzalez is moving to Greek club Olympiacos, the teams announced Saturday, Aug. 22.
Terms of the deal were not disclosed, but reports in both countries indicate Olympiacos paid $12 million, with Chivas retaining 20% of a potential future sale to another club.
Gonzalez had a $15 million release clause, but Chivas were open to selling the 23-year-old as long as they retained a portion of the sell-on clause, meaning they get a percentage of the sale if Gonzalez moves to another club from Olympiacos.
"It wasn't an easy decision, because Chivas was my home for more than eight years. I grew up there since I was 15 years old. It was a tough decision, but I knew I had to take this opportunity," Gonzalez said in a video published by the Greek club. "I'm thankful to Amaury (Vergara, Chivas) president, who gave me the chance to come here, for everything he's done, giving me the chance to come here and achieve one of my dreams."
The forward tied for the Liga MX lead in scoring with a dozen goals in the 2025 Apertura and scored another 12 for Chivas in the Clausura before joining the Mexico national team ahead of the 2026 World Cup. Despite the match taking place in the home of his club's biggest rival, fans chanted Gonzalez's name at the opening match of El Tri's World Cup campaign, with manager Javier Aguirre putting Gonzalez in for a 14-minute cameo at the end of the 2-0 win over South Africa.

Chivas at times dominated but were only able to get a 1-1 tie against Puebla. Chivas was the better side from the start but their scoring troubles continued as they were only able to get a single goal against a Puebla side that looked to defend and counter from the start, giving away most possession. Both teams are going to the Leagues Cup before returning to Liga MX. Puebla will travel to Pachuca in their return while Chivas plays against Santos in Torreon.
The 1st half started with Chivas coming out with their best 11 including Brian Gutierrez from the start. Armando Gonzalez got into the area but his right footed shot would go wide. Roberto Alvarado got off a great left footed shot that was blocked by Puebla's goalkeeper, Ricardo Gutierrez. He would leave the ball there for Gonzalez go get a close range header but Gutierrez made a fantastic save to stop him from a sure goal. Gonzalez got into the area and his left footed shot was blocked by Gutierrez but it bounced off Juan Pablo Vargas and looked like it was going to be an own goal but it hit the post. Chivas was completely dominating the match but the score remained scoreless. Against the run of play, Emiliano Gomez got into the area and get past a defender before getting off a left footed shot that Chivas' goalkeeper Raul Rangel blocked but left there for Eduardo Mustre to get off a left footed shot in the net to score and give Puebla the surprising 1-0 lead. It was the first real chance for the home side and it was a bad mistake from Rangel to give up the lead. From outside the area, Ruben Gonzalez got off a right footed shot that went wide. Facundo Almada made a run into the area but his right footed shot went wide. Daniel Aguirre made a good move in the area and got off a left footed shot that went just wide. A cross into the area was headed by Bryan Alonso Gonzalez but it was cleared by Puebla's defense. Alonso Gonzalez got off a left footed shot inside the area that Gutierrez saved. The halftime whistle blew and although Chivas had played better, it was Puebla who had the lead at the break.
The 2nd half started with neither team making a substitution as it started to rain heavily in Puebla. Kevin Velasco got off a left footed shot from outside the area that Rangel saved. Alvarado would get the ball in the area and get off a right footed shot that hit the post. Chivas subbed out Fernando Gonzalez and Jordan Carrillo for Omar Govea and Efrain Alvarez. Alvarado got off a right footed shot from outside the area that Gutierrez made a great save on it. Off the ensuing corner kick, Chivas surprised by taking it quickly and Roberto Alvarado got off a great left footed shot inside the area that went past Gutierrez to score and tie the match at 1-1. A cross from Alvarado almost would turn into a shot that almost went in. Govea got off a right footed shot that would go well wide. Puebla subbed out Carlos Baltazar and Eduardo Mustre for Mathias Tomas and Luifer Hernandez. Chivas subbed out Arman

Penrice was of course at last year’s Scottish Premiership ***** le challengers Heart of Midlothian at one time, before being sold to Greek outfit and Celtic’s former European foes AEK Athens, in what was a good £2 million deal at that time for the Edinburgh club.
The man who was formerly of Livingston had been thought to be on Celtic’s radar during that period, with the Bhoys looking for cover at left-back to help bolster an area that has been somewhat of a bug-bear of the supporters in recent times – stretching as far back as Brendan Rodgers’ first spell in charge at the football club, when Emilio Izaguirre was even drafted back in as temporary cover at one point.
With Kieran Tierney now the mainstay and obvious first-choice at the left-hand side of the Hoops defence, many thought Marcelo Saracchi would be the man to play deputy to the Scotland international, whenever he was needing rested or just refreshing of the starting line-up more generally for Martin O’Neill, going forward into this campaign.
That has obviously not transpired following bizarre negotiations and non-negotiations – depending on who you believe – and that means there is once again a major hole in the squad that needs filled, with only Liam Scales and Adam Montgomery able to deputise in Tierney’s absence now, with the former our centre-back presently and the latter well out of the picture for some time now.
Meanwhile, journalist Mark Hendry has confirmed that as it stands, the Bhoys have not gone beyond the dreaded “enquiry” stage for the Scottish defender, in what is fast-becoming the motif of our current summer recruitment drive. Taking to social media site X, the journalist summarised the situation as the following:

England winger Anthony Gordon says being sworn at by then Mexico boss Javier Aguirre in a viral moment of their World Cup match was "just a bit of fun" and a "compliment".
During a first-half hydration break, Aguirre first speaks to England midfielder Jude Bellingham before calling out to Gordon when they were both close to the touchline during England's dramatic 3-2 win in their last-16 tie at the Azteca Stadium.
The 67-year-old then shouts an explicit remark to the forward before both of them laugh.
"I remembered it," said Gordon, who moved from Newcastle United to Barcelona this summer. "It's just a bit of fun.

Mexico coach Javier Aguirre announced he's stepping down from his position after a dramatic 3-2 defeat to 10-man England in the last 16 of the World Cup on Sunday.
The decision, which has been planned beforehand, ends his third tenure for the national team.
"I'm saying goodbye to football. Goodbye to the Azteca Stadium. I'm leaving with pride," he said.
Aguirre first took over the national team in 2001 and stayed for only one year. His second term was from April 2009 to the end of June 2010. His third term began in summer of 2024.

One of the most anticipated matchups of the World Cup knockout round will have to wait, for now. The Round of 16 match between Mexico and England has been delayed due to inclement weather in Mexico City.
The match was supposed to kick off at 8 p.m. ET (7 p.m. local time) at Mexico City’s Azteca Stadium, but has now been reportedly pushed back one hour to 9 p.m. ET.
Fans in the stadium were told to shelter in place about three hours before kickoff due to an approaching thunderstorm.
With two hours to go before the game, England and Mexico’s teams were told to not travel to the stadium because of the lightning risk, via Rob Dorsett of Sky Sports. England, though, ignored that advice and made its way to the stadium, where it was greeted by Mexican fans.
Sunday evening’s storm was a known concern ahead of the matchup: On Friday, FIFA reportedly considered moving the game up by several hours to avoid the storm, with a proposed start time of noon local time. The suggestion received pushback from Mexico head coach Javier Aguirre on Friday.

Mexico boss Javier Aguirre denied he was "fooled" by FIFA's potential plan to move the kick-off of the last-16 clash with England.
Aguirre said in a radio interview that the decision to bring the game forward six hours was a "kick in the stomach".
FIFA was in discussions to change the kick-off time to midday local time on Sunday (1800 GMT) because of the threat of thunderstorms, but they stuck to the original plan.
Asked by Mexican journalists whether he felt fooled, Aguirre replied: "Before you were calling me a preacher, now you are telling me I was fooled.
"I don't know what you mean, I was told the match would be played at a different time and I said I wasn't happy with the change. A day before the match, it was inconvenient and that's all I said.

As Gianni Infantino stood beaming in the Miami stands on an unforgettable night at the World Cup 2026, posing for selfies amid celebrities at the unforgettable Argentina vs Cape Verde match, it was hard not to wonder whether he should have been more focused on what Fifa are actually supposed to be about: running football tournaments.
Because, over five needlessly chaotic hours on Friday, they almost failed at the basics of that: confirming a kick-off time for a football match.
The basic details are worth recapping, all the more so because they are clouded in so much confusion.
Shortly after midday in Mexico City, and 7pm in the UK, one Mexican broadcaster reported as fact that Sunday's last-16 match between Mexico and England was being brought forward six hours - to 12pm local - "due to a forecast of thunderstorms".
National team coach Javier Aguirre even went on the same broadcaster's show to furiously complain about it.

Co-hosts Mexico meet England at the Azteca in Mexico City on Sunday, with an almighty scrap expected for a spot in the quarterfinals.
WATCH — Mexico v England, en Espanol
Javier Aguirre's side have won all four of their games at the 2026 World Cup without conceding a goal, breezing through the group stage and then sailing past Ecuador in the last 16. Mexico's fans are fully behind their team and will create an incredible atmosphere as they know this will be their final game of the World Cup on home soil no matter what happens.
England have huffed and puffed their way through this tournament, as they usually do, and (as usual) they have Harry Kane to thank for bailing them out. Trailing DR Congo 1-0 late on in their Round of 32 game, Thomas Tuchel's side looked to have run out of ideas as they came up against yet another stubborn defense and a goalkeeper playing out of this world. Then Kane popped up with two late goals to send them into the last 16. They can improve at the back and their fluidity isn't great, but Tuchel is finding ways to drag them along.
Kick off time: 8pm ET Sunday (July 5)
Venue: Estadio Azteca — Mexico City, Mexico
TV Channel: Telemundo
Streaming: Stream live on Peacock, en Espanol

Mexico next World Cup match: Schedule, start time, draw bracket and results as El Tri prepare for R16 originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
As co-hosts of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, Mexico are set to embark on a potentially defining summer.
Hosted two World Cups previously in 1970 and 1986, El Tri are embedded in global soccer lore. Yet they have a dodgy past at the FIFA tournament, and currently sit on the precipice of troubled times.
After seven straight appearances in the Round of 16, Mexico fans were hoping to finally break through their World Cup glass ceiling in 2022, but instead found themselves embarrassed in Qatar with a group stage elimination, their first since 1978.
Now, Javier Aguirre leads El Tri into the 2026 tournament hoping not only for redemption, but a chance to provide fans with a return to global prominence on home soil. They will look to pull from past experience, as their only two appearances in a World Cup quarterfinal both came on familiar ground during their two previous hosting opportunities.

They will look to pull from past experience, as their only two appearances in a World Cup quarterfinal both came on familiar ground during their two previous hosting opportunities.

South Africa is heading to the knockout rounds of the World Cup for the first time after a 1-0 win over South Korea.
Thapelo Maseko scored a 63rd-minute goal to move South Africa from last to second in Group A. The win means South Africa will play Canada on Sunday at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California, in the first Round of 32 game.
It’s a remarkable turnaround for the South Africans after they lost 2-0 to Mexico to open the World Cup and finished that game with nine players thanks to two red cards. After a draw with Czechia, South Africa needed to get a win to have any chance at making the knockout rounds. A tie would do it no good.
Czechia lost 3-0 to Mexico, as Mexico became the first team in the 2026 World Cup to win all three of its group stage games. The multi-goal lead allowed Mexico manager Javier Aguirre to bring on goalkeeper Guillermo Ochoa in the 78th minute.
Ochoa, 40, joined Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo this summer as the only men to be selected for six World Cup squads. Wednesday night’s appearance meant Ochoa has played in four World Cups. He first emerged as a starter for Mexico during the 2014 World Cup.

2026 World Cup co-host Mexico are well and truly in the driver's seat against Czechia in Mexico City, with El Tri firmly planting one foot in the Round of 32.
After banking six points from six to take charge of Group A with wins over South Africa (2-0) and Korea Republic (1-0), Javier Aguirre's troops are now primed to do something they have never done before.
A composed finish from 22-year-old AZ Alkmaar left-back Mateo Chávez sent the home crowd into rapture as they watched the young defender net his first-ever senior international goal.
Those celebrations would continue six minutes later when Julián Quiñones pounced on some woeful defending by Czechia to slot home, driving another nail in Repre's summer coffin.

MEXICO CITY (AP) — Gilberto Mora became the youngest player to start in a World Cup for Mexico when the 17-year-old sensation took the field against the Czech Republic on Wednesday night.
Mora is the youngest competitor in this World Cup. The midfielder became the eighth 17-year-old to play in the tournament when he entered as a substitute during Mexico's 2-0 win over South Africa on June 11.
Pelé was the first World Cup player under age 18 when he debuted for Brazil in 1958. The youngest in World Cup history was Norman Whiteside of Northern Ireland, who played in 1982 at 17 years, 41 days. Mora is the first 17-year-old to see World Cup action since Femi Opabunmi and Bartholomew Ogbeche for Nigeria in 2002.
Mora, who plays for Tijuana in the Mexican league, suffered a groin injury early in the year that sidelined him for two months, and coach Javier Aguirre was cautious with him in the first two matches. After subbing in against South Africa, he did not play in last Thursday's 1-0 win over South Korea.
The player known as Morita has already set several records related to his age. In August 2024, he became the youngest to start and score in the Mexican first division at age 15. In January of last year, he became the youngest to debut for the senior team at 16.

Host nation Mexico enters its final group fixture already guaranteed a spot in the knockout rounds, but a crucial objective remains intact as they face a desperate Czechia side.
Having kept consecutive clean sheets in dominant victories over South Africa and South Korea, Mexico need only a single point from this matchup to mathematically lock down the top seed in Group A.
Javier Aguirre's co-hosts will depend heavily on the veteran leadership of Raul Jimenez, who scored the tournament's opening goal, alongside fellow stars Santiago Gimenez and Edson Alvarez.
Meanwhile, the Czechs find themselves in a precarious position. Following an opening-round defeat to South Korea and a subsequent draw with South Africa, they must secure a victory here to keep their round-of-32 ambitions alive.

MEXICO CITY — Alexis Vega said the quiet part out loud on Tuesday morning.
"Who wouldn't want to see Memo Ochoa?" he said during Mexico's media availability at el Centro de Alto Rendimiento. "He's a legend. But that's a decision that El Vasco will have to make tomorrow."
Such is the question facing manager Javier Aguirre 24 hours ahead of the group stage finale against Czechia. Does he give Ochoa the nod, a symbolic sendoff for the 40-year-old national icon playing in his sixth World Cup? Or does he stick with the bulk of the lineup that he's rolled with for the first two games, giving them one more chance to finally gel before the knockout rounds?
Nevermind the fact that Czechia's playing to avoid elimination. Nevermind the fact that Mexico's chasing history; if El Tri beats Nároďák, they'll finish off a sweep of Group A and accumulate nine points for the first time in the country's 18 World Cup appearances.
Aguirre fielded several questions from the press at Estadio Azteca on Tuesday afternoon that boiled down to his plans for the lineup — and for Ochoa — in one way or another. El Vasco kept his cards close to his chest, but did shed light on a couple other matters: he'll "protect" Brian Gutiérrez to keep the talented midfielder from potentially picking up a second yellow card and risking a suspension for the Round of 32, and César Montes will be back on the pitch after missing the South Korea match due to a careless red card in stoppage time in the opener against South Africa.

The younger members of the Mexico national team are opposing the possibility of iconic goalkeeper Guillermo Ochoa making a ceremonial appearance in the final group stage match at the World Cup, according to reports.
The reports said that the group believes that decisions should be made solely on the basis of current performance and sporting strategy - especially at a World Cup, where every detail can influence a team's path to in the knock-out stage.
World Cup co-hosts Mexico were the first nation to qualify to the knock-outs. They play their final group stage match against the Czech Republic on Wednesday.
Ochoa is considered a Mexican football great. He played in 153 matches for the national team over a span of more than 20 years.
He hasn't played yet at this World Cup as coach Javier Aguirre opted to have Raul Rangel as a starter for matches against South Africa and South Korea.

Mexico and South Korea will aim to punch their ticket to the World Cup knockout rounds on Thursday when they meet in Guadalajara knowing that a win would guarantee a last 32 berth.
The Group A rivals head into the fixture at the Estadio Akron fresh from respective victories over South Africa and the Czech Republic in their opening games last week.
The expanded 48-team format for this year's World Cup -- and the fact that the eight best-ranked third-placed teams will advance from the group stage -- means that a win for either Mexico or South Korea would see them advance.
Co-hosts Mexico are bracing for a significantly tougher test against South Korean than South Africa provided.
"We have to be very wary of the opponents' attacking transitions," Mexico coach Javier Aguirre said.
