Former Eintracht Frankfurt head coach Dino Toppmöller has defended his defensive record at the Bundesliga club, arguing that the disastrous final months of his tenure created a misleading impression of his work. Toppmöller – currently the head coach of RC Lens – spoke to France's L'Équipe about his previous Bundesliga **** ignment.
Toppmöller pointed out that Frankfurt possessed the Bundesliga's sixth-best defence during his first season and the fifth-best during his second.
His third campaign ended very differently. Frankfurt had conceded a league-high 39 goals through 18 fixtures when Toppmöller's position came under serious threat. Serie A side Lazio have constantly lingered on the edge of chaos and something similar has no unfolded involving midfielder Kenneth Taylor and Rino Gattuso.
La Gazzetta dello Sport report that the incident took place during training today. Lazio are having their pre-season training sessions at the Formello and Taylor was present. The squad was undergoing a tactical drill under the orders of Gattuso today.
Taylor was hit by a teammate and then complained about it. This stopped the game and Gattuso thought this is quite normal during training. Taylor responded by verbally attacking the Italian.
An argument ensued and Gattuso reacted by calling Taylor out and sending him out of the training session. Without further comment, the midfielder went back into the locker room.
Training then continued as normal, obviously without Taylor. A meeting between coach and player is likely in the next few hours to see if—as it appears—the Dutchman will participate in the afternoon session without any issues.

With Roberto De Zerbi naming a stronger side than the one he selected against Auckland FC, Spurs started on the front foot and looked much the better side, without being able to convert that dominance into goals, with an excellent Mathys Tel free kick Spurs' lone goal. Following Sydney FC equalizing in the second half, the match went to penalties where Spurs held their nerve to win the shootout 2-4, with Joe Lacey hitting the post and Martin Dubravka saving Alexandar Popovic's attempt.

Gary Kelly came from behind in dramatic style to beat 17 year-old Liam Hill from Tonga and make it three wins to start his campaign for a third Commonwealth Games medal.
Hill's aggressive style saw him cruise to 9-6 win in the opening set against an out of sorts Kelly but the Ballymoney man found his form to open up a 5-0 lead in the second set.
However, Hill would mount a comeback closing to within a shot heading to the final end.
Holding shot, that would have given him the game, Hill made a tactical error with his final bowl as he committed a 30 second shot clock violation.

Now finally, there's one that I have been near and dear for as long as I can remember, and that's American Express. Now, this only has 10% of purchase volume with fewer cards in circulation, but their cardholders tend to spend a lot more money. Plus, they charge fees for their best cards, basically making you pay for access to their generous rewards programs. It's a fantastic business model. But remember, they do have credit risk.
Under Cramer's framework, American Express occupies a specialized niche compared to rival payment networks Visa Inc. (NYSE:V) and Mastercard Incorporated (NYSE:MA). While Visa controls 60% of cardholders and Mastercard holds 25% to 30%, American Express Company (NYSE:AXP) commands roughly 10% of purchase volume. However, unlike Visa and Mastercard, which operate strictly as neutral tollbooths with zero balance-sheet risk, American Express operates as a direct card issuer. That closed-loop structure allows the company to capture premium annual membership fees and higher per-cardholder spending, though it requires absorbing credit default risk when consumers fall behind on payments.
On the technical side, Cramer highlighted that Lang noted that American Express Company (NYSE:AXP) has shown exceptional relative strength during recent broader market chop. After breaking out above its 200-day moving average in early June, the stock successfully retested that key support level on multiple occasions before surging higher on heavy volume. With the MACD indicator continuing to flash a buy signal, Lang sees a clear path toward $350, with a secondary upside target at its February peak of $370. It is the exact price level where sellers previously emerged. Manchester United continue their pre-season schedule on Friday with an away clash against Rosenborg, marking their second friendly of the summer.

No Championship head coach will have his side where they want them to be at this stage of pre-season, according to Bolton Wanderers boss Steven Schumacher.
The Trotters are preparing for their return to the Championship after beating Stockport County in the League One play-off final in May.
They beat Oldham Athletic 3-1 in their second pre-season friendly on Wednesday night having returned from a training camp in Slovakia last week.
"I don't think there's any team or manager standing here now saying they're exactly where they want to be," Schumacher told BBC Radio Manchester.
"We're still a long way physically from where we need to get to, tactically we still need to work on a few things. Defensively we've looked solid enough, really well organised and the attitude to defend has been really good."
