The price of jet fuel averaged $4.53 USD per gallon for the week ending Sept. 18, according to the latest Airlines for America U.S. Jet Fuel Index.
Driven by the war in Iran and closure of the Strait of Hormuz following the U.S.-Israeli strike on Iran at the end of February 2026, this price is a nearly 80% increase from the national average a year ago.
As a result, almost every major and regional airline has had to keep reworking its networks to maximize jet fuel use and ruthlessly cut any flights not bringing in the expected traffic.
Airline chief executives have also been sounding the alarm on what prolonged jet fuel prices could mean for the industry.
"If fuel prices remain as high as they are right now, I think that that's going to require some adjustments in terms of our capacity planning as we take a look into the future," American Airlines CEO Robert Isom said at the annual Morgan Stanley Laguna Conference in California on Sept. 16, Airline Geeks reported.

As markets anxiously await the outcome of the current FOMC meeting, Treasury yields notched new 19-year highs in trading Tuesday. The closely watched 10-year surpassed 5.0% Tuesday morning in a high not seen since July 2007. Even the 30-year Treasury yield rose sharply, hitting 5.4%, its highest since June 2007.
In addition to worries over persistent, rising core inflation (one of the Fed's preferred inflation measurements), skyrocketing oil prices and shortages create further pressure on Treasuries. Currently, the rolling one-month correlation between the 10-year Treasury yield and front-month WTI (West Texas Intermediate) crude sits at 0.96 per BMO Capital Markets ****** ysis.
Bond yields and oil prices have moved in tandem for much of this year as investors position for the longer-term inflationary impact of higher oil prices. And with major oil execs sounding the alarm on global supply cache shortages and strategic reserves depletion that help to temporarily soften spiking oil prices for consumers, these pricing pressures are likely to continue in the near-term. Saudi Arabia announced the closure of its East-West pipeline that bypassed the Strait of Hormuz after it came under attack late last week, and cancelled some shipments to Europe, reported Reuters.
"Normally, the relationship isn't as clean as it is now, but the geopolitical drivers behind the price of oil and global inflation are so prominent that the normally modest correlation has become much tighter," Steve Sosnick, Chief Strategist, Interactive Brokers told CNBC. "As long as oil prices remain firm and continue to drift higher, this will add pressure to interest rates."
As macro uncertainty continues and inflation persists, bonds and oil/energy will be categories to keep a weather eye towards and could see renewed ETF investor attention. Currently, investors are seizing the opportunity in longer-term bonds, with $9.7 billion flowing into the iShares 20+ Year Treasury Bond ETF (TLT) in the last three months though the fund is only up $3.4 billion net YTD according to FactSet data. It will be a category likely to see action in the wake of the FOMC rate decision. As bond yields climb, prices fall as they move inverse to each other, and should yields climb higher, investors may choose to scoop up longer duration bonds at depreciated prices for future gains. However, an exodus is more likely until the path of rate hikes becomes more certain.

NEW ORLEANS (AP) — The New Orleans Saints are moving on to Week 2 sounding more emboldened than disappointed by their season-opening loss to Detroit.
"We're in a good place," Saints veteran safety Justin Reid said Monday, a day after the 31-30 overtime loss to the Lions. "When we click on all cylinders, it's evident what we can do."
After erasing a three-touchdown deficit in the second half, the Saints matched the Lions' touchdown in overtime and tried to win the game with a 2-point conversion that failed when second-year quarterback Tyler Shough's pass fell incomplete.
"A lot of teams would have folded," Reid said. "That's not the way that we're built."
Second-year coach Kellen Moore said the Saints "get to learn a lot from that game."

Marshall Faulk not happy with Southern's 77-6 money game beatdown to Houston appeared first on ClutchPoints. Add ClutchPoints as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
Marshall Faulk was not happy with his team's resounding 77-6 loss to the University of Houston on Saturday. The matchup was one of several money games FCS HBCU programs played over the past couple of weeks, and it was Faulk's first money game. In comments obtained by Kevin Batiste, Faulk expressed his disappointment with the result and what it meant.
"That was awful. That wasn't really a game. That was a kind of a pre-season crash dummy test for Houston to work on all their good plays, and we didn't show up…I felt like, for the most part, the guys that we had in early, our guys that's going to play, I feel like they gave the effort. But let's just be real, okay? They're better than us. All right? They're better than us. They're ranked what, twenty-second? We're FCS. Everybody know what this is. Let it be what it is. We're gonna get better, we're gonna lick our wounds, and get ready to play some football."
He then talked about maintaining his players' health after the Houston game and heading into SWAC play.
"I don't know. I know we have a couple of guys dinged up, but for the most part, I'm gonna say yes. Listen, man, I took my guys out. I wanted to make sure that we were healthy. We got SWAC play coming up in two weeks, and as much as winning this game seemed important as it started, with the start that we had, I just needed to make sure — or ensure — that we got out of this game as healthy as possible."

Leave it to Elon Musk to say, essentially, I've been right all along.
The **** eX (SPCX) and Tesla (TSLA) CEO agreed with Anthropic (ANTH.PVT) CEO Dario Amodei on his essay arguing for pacing AI advances.
The crux of Amodei's argument is that AI using recursive self-improvement "could outrun our ability to understand and control these systems, and so must be pursued very carefully, if at all."
In order to prevent future harms, Amodei said frontier AI companies should commit to embedding third-party evaluators in their organizations that can **** s their AI models and confirm the labs' "adherence to safety practices and commitments, report incidents, and help **** s the alignment of not just completed AI models but training pipelines and processes."
Musk replied on X.com, "Dario is right," but also added later that he's been "sounding the alarm" over AI for some time now, linking back to a post he made back in 2023, when he wrote, "AGI is significantly higher risk than nuclear weapons, in my opinion. Super smart humans have trouble imagining something vastly smarter than themselves."

This week's ETF Zoo crew takes a lay of the land as summer comes to a close and some new and interesting developments crop up. ETF.com hosts Dave Nadig, President & Director of Research, and Sumit Roy, Senior ETF ****** yst, are joined in this episode by Cinthia Murphy, Director of Research at TMX VettaFi, and James Seyffart, CFA, CAIA, Senior Research ****** yst at Bloomberg Intelligence. Together the group talks about some of the big M&A announcements lately, dig into the AI chokepoint perspective, and more.
You can view this episode here or on our YouTube channel or listen on Spotify or Apple Podcasts.
M&A land grab in full swing. Billions in ETF acquisitions, including Victory Capital/First Eagle, Vanguard/Altruist, and more, signal that scale instead of organic growth now drives the industry. The Zoo crew debated whether firms are buying hit products, talent, or distribution, and what could be ahead for the industry.
Leverage and gambling push into new territory. Defiance's hourly-reset leveraged ETFs barely differ from daily resets despite pulling in huge fees, while Korea and ****** an crack down on single-stock leverage entirely. New NHL-linked sports-betting ETFs raised bigger concerns about routing gambling risk through the same rails as retirement savings.
AI concentration is everywhere, even where you don't expect it. Thematic and datacenter ETFs quietly hold the same chokepoint stocks like Micron and Nvidia, sparking debate over whether that's a feature or a vulnerability. However, real revenue growth at companies like Anthropic and OpenAI kept the Zoo Crew from sounding the alarm just yet.

DELMAR - The Columbia football team opened a lot of eyes with its Week 1 victory over Queensbury. For those still wondering whether that win was an aberration, the Blue Devils showed Bethlehem Thursday evening that they are a force to be reckoned with.
Columbia shook off a slow start and registered another impressive all-around performance in posting a 31-0 Class A road victory over the Eagles.
It seemed apropos that Columbia senior two-way lineman Adam Burek departed the field after the game with a sledgehammer draped over his right shoulder. The Blue Devils sure brought the muscle Thursday.
The Blue Devils (2-0 overall, 2-0 Class A) were coming off a resounding 48-27 Week 1 triumph over Queensbury, a team that knocked Columbia out of the Class A playoffs in 2025 and 2024. Thursday, Columbia generated a 443-138 edge in offense and never allowed Bethlehem (0-2, 0-2) to reach the red zone.
"It feels great. We had a great offseason with all the guys. We had a good camp and we have really just brought it together the last two weeks," Burek said.

AI is transforming the world and freaking everyone out.
Some worry that it'll replace jobs. Others worry it'll wrest control from humans and act badly.
Recent activity by AI agents belonging to the big AI labs is not helping.
Two AI agents walk into a bar. One says to the other: "OH MY GOD! There is a shared message board."
Despite sounding like a bad joke (and maybe it is), the quote is a real chain-of-thought note left by an OpenAI agent who discovered a secret, unauthorized message board created by another agent.

Michigan's fans are facing criticism for their reaction to a controversial win against Western Michigan on Saturday.
The Wolverines pulled off a miracle win on the final play, with Bryce Underwood heaving a Hail Mary pass one play after the game clock appeared to expire. Michigan won 13-12 against the MAC opponent, prompting fans to rush the field — an action that drew resounding criticism.
Michigan had struggled throughout the game, scoring just 7 points before their final drive ended in a controversial touchdown. The game initially appeared over when Underwood threw a Hail Mary attempt through the back on the end zone, but referees put 1 second back on the clock after ruling that it touched a Western Michigan defender who was out of bounds.
Underwood scrambled before heaving to the end zone, where JJ Buchanan came down with the ball.
Michigan's fans stormed onto the field after the win, which the ESPN broadcast called out and many fans online criticized. The Wolverines came into the game as 27.5-point favorites and trailed for much of the game before winning on the game's final play.

George Clooney is sounding the alarm on artificial intelligence.
The "Ocean's Eleven" star addressed the future of AI in the entertainment industry, telling reporters during a panel at the 83rd Venice International Film Festival that it will be a "very big" part of show business moving forward.
However, the obvious drawback, according to Clooney, is that it will become "harder and harder and harder" to discern fact from fiction.
"... So, it's a very complicated moment in time and we're gonna have to find a way to discern this," Clooney said. "And everybody's working furiously at it and I haven't seen any great strides yet in success."
He later added: "I would like to avoid being in a tampon commercial 20 years after I'm dead. I would like that. I would like to avoid that."

The dust has settled on what has been an extremely eventful Tottenham Hotspur summer transfer window. You can see how busy Spurs were from the transfer summary article, which isn't even complete despite me doing my best to track it all summer long. (Alasdair Gold counted 54 moves this summer in all squads including reserves and U-squads; clearly I missed some, especially in the youth and reserve teams.) If nothing else, Tottenham Hotspur was certainly not idle.
But how did we do? Well… it's complicated. Spurs spend an obscene amount of money on new signings (£394m by best estimation, not including purchase options), offset a great deal by numerous player sales (£264m including options). The net spend is actually not that bad — £130m all said, which puts it in line with transfer spends in the last few years of the Daniel Levy era.
Spurs have turned over the club in Roberto De Zerbi's image, and whether you think that's a positive or not is very likely going to color your perception of the window as a whole. Matty and I have our takes. Let's see what you think!
Okay, so I'm going to get meta on you all right now. How do you even grade a transfer window? Do you look purely at the players brought in? Or do you look a level deeper, at what those signings imply about leadership and process? In my writing of this blurb, I went back and looked at my summary this time last year (which, by the way I rated as a C+, a rating I would say was pretty apt given the ensuing results, even though many thought we were being overly negative). Here's part of what I said:
There's a few things you need to take into account when looking at this window. There's the actual players signed; there's outgoings; there's the strategic fit; and then there's the timeline by which this happened and the process behind it all. The latter was a resounding, unequivocal failure.

SARATOGA SPRINGS - Ever since losing to Nitrogen earlier this year, Fully Subscribed has been dialed in.
On Saturday at Saratoga Race Course, the 4-year-old daughter of Belmont Stakes and Travers Stakes winner Tiz The Law put that intensified ability on full display while capturing the Grade 1 Personal Ensign by a resounding 9 ¾ lengths.
The win earned her a free trip to the Breeders' Cup, too.
"I'm so happy," winning trainer Chad Brown said after the race. "Heck of a crowd here today at Saratoga. She got to show her stuff and show what she can really do."

Apple TV's recent docuseries on UConn women's basketball provided a trip down memory lane for Rebecca Lobo, documenting her journey from program-changing recruit to the leader of Geno Auriemma's first national championship squad.
Lobo's favorite moment from the three-episode series, however, captured a much more recent moment within the program. 10 days after a season-altering loss at Tennessee during the 2024-25 season, UConn bounced back resoundingly with an 87-58 win at South Carolina, prompting Auriemma to deliver a triumphant locker room speech that still resonates with Lobo.
"My favorite clip from the UConn doc. Look at the players' faces [and] how they respond to Coach's words," Lobo wrote on social media platform X. "Playing for [UConn] isn't easy, but there's great satisfaction when you accomplish challenging things together. His players care about each other [and] love him. You see that here."
The 6-foot-5 Lobo towered over her high school competition in western Massachusetts, where she emerged as one of the nation's top recruits and drew the attention of over 100 colleges around the country. Lobo ultimately stayed close to home and joined UConn, citing a focus on academics, becoming one of the first major recruits that Auriemma drew to Storrs.
Her blue-chip pedigree didn't deter Auriemma's hard-nosed coaching style, as Apple's docuseries showcased his push for Lobo to embrace a more physical brand of basketball. Auriemma's efforts ultimately paid off, as Lobo blossomed into the National Player of the Year and helped capture UConn's first national **** le with a memorable win over Tennessee in 1995.

La Liga giants Barcelona will again be forced to make do without the contributions of midfield star Gavi in the club's next outing. This comes amid the understanding that the youngster has not yet been cleared for competitive action.
Gavi of course set alarm bells sounding across the Barcelona fanbase last weekend. En route to the Blaugrana's 5-0 opening day drubbing of Elche, the Spanish international was forced off with a knee complaint.
After a round of medical tests back at the Ciutat Esportiva the following day, all of a Barca persuasion breathed a sigh of relief, as it was confirmed that Gavi had suffered only bruising.
The 22-year-old was nevertheless left out of Hansi Flick's squad to face Athletic Club on Thursday, yet to return to group training in Catalunya's capital.
And if the latest word stemming from the media on Friday is anything to go by, then a comeback this weekend also appears to have been all but ruled out. As per a report from journalist Moises Llorens of ESPN:

Nvidia is likely one of the most closely watched stocks on the market. The company's graphics processing units (GPUs) were crucial in the advent of generative artificial intelligence (AI) in late 2022, and the chipmaker has become a bellwether for the AI landscape. All eyes were on Nvidia as the company released its quarterly financial report after the market close on Wednesday.
Missed Nvidia in 2009? This Rare Signal Is Flashing Again. In 2009, a "Double Down" signal flashed for a little-known chipmaker called Nvidia. For the first time in years, that same "Total Conviction" signal is flashing for a company 1/100th the size of Nvidia. Continue »
Investors were hoping for insight into the state of AI adoption and whether AI had room to run, and that question was answered with a resounding "yes."
One of the biggest questions among investors is just how long Nvidia could keep up its frantic pace of growth. It turns out there's still runway ahead, as its growth continued to accelerate. For its fiscal 2027 second quarter (ended July 26), the company generated record revenue of $96.2 billion, up 106% year over year and 18% quarter over quarter. This drove adjusted earnings per share (EPS) up 120% to $2.22. The results were partially driven by Nvidia's expanding gross margin of 75%.

What did Target, Starbucks, and Nike have in common barely a year ago? All three consumer icons had freshly announced new CEOs, which were wrongly greeted with hasty skepticism from ***** ysts. Target's Michael Fiddelke was scoffed at as an uninspired insider; Nike's Elliott Hill was underestimated as a nostalgia hire, unable to stem Nike's loss of market share, while questions abounded over whether Brian Niccol could actually turn around Starbucks amidst pervasive in-store service struggles, despite his sterling record at Chipotle.
We saw it differently. At the time of their appointments, we vocally and presciently touted all three new CEOs as the right person for the job at the right time, while other ***** ysts rolled their eyes. Unlike the frequent, sometime successful model of the messianic hiring of industry outsiders as turnaround tians, these new CEOs hit the ground running as each had decades of experience in their sectors with glowing track records, priceless relationships, and balanced expertise across marketing, finance, strategy, and operations,.
Furthermore, we were the first to confidently predict the certainty of their success, even knowing that it would take some time to reposition their enterprises and for their new leadership to gain traction. Now the receipts are in, showing striking progress in all three cases, with each already well on their way to cementing their reputations as the architects of some of the most remarkable corporate turnarounds of our era.
When Michael Fiddelke, a Target lifer who had risen up the ranks from a lowly intern over two decades ago, was named CEO, cynics sneered that the board had chosen entrenched groupthink over fresh blood. We argued precisely the opposite—that the data overwhelmingly shows internal candidates outperform splashy external saviors, with insider CEOs appointed over the prior year delivering roughly 15% annualized shareholder returns while external hires averaged negative 9%. New brooms sweep clean, but the old broom knows the corners. Furthermore, we argued that Fiddelke was uniquely positioned to build on the many successes of his widely admired predecessor, Brian Cornell, despite simultaneous urgent challenges.
This week brought resounding vindication. Target's second-quarter sales jumped 5.3%, digital sales grew nearly 9%, Target raised its full-year outlook for the second consecutive quarter, and the stock soared nearly 5%. Indeed, on a year to date basis, Target stock has soared nearly 60%.

The Donald Trump administration's aggressive expansion of a Treasury bond buyback program has effectively neutralized the Federal Reserve's ability to combat inflation, leaving Chair Kevin Warsh sidelined while inflation-sensitive ******* ets surge.
Economist Peter Schiff is sounding the alarm following the Treasury Department's abrupt announcement on Wednesday. The administration decided to double its liquidity-support buybacks for long-dated bonds, escalating from $2 billion to $4 billion per operation. Today I'm breaking out a new feature for me on this beat, something I've been wanting to initiate for a couple of years now.
Each Monday, I'll sit down and reflect on the previous weekend's action, and I've broken this down into four subheads: Touchdown, Chunk Play, First Down and Behind the Chains.
Touchdown
CLEVELAND: The Storm opened their quest for a third consecutive Class 6A state championship with a resounding, four-touchdown victory over what I contend will eventually prove to be a strong Centennial outfit.
This 34-7 win was the ultimate tone setter, and affirms Cleveland as the No. 1 team in 6A. It wasn't just that new QB Michael Denison came out and played so well in his debut, a five-touchdown effort.

Chicago's lakefront was filled with young competitors Saturday morning as athletes of all ages gathered for Supertri Chicago weekend, beginning with the 2026 Supertri Chicago Kids Triathlon at Foster Beach.
The race got underway with a countdown of "three, two, one," followed by the sounding of horns as participants entered the competition.
Some of the city's youngest athletes took on the waters of Lake Michigan and then transitioned to cycling and running in the triathlon challenge. Among them was 12-year-old Brooke Casey, a veteran participant who said the event remains a highlight.
"It's just fun. And I like when I see other people doing it like I see like little kids doing it and it's really fun," Casey said.
For Casey and her brother Kyle, the event has become a family tradition. Their father, Brendan Casey, said the family's involvement spans more than a decade.

Real Madrid ended their pre-season schedule in fine style on Sunday with a resounding 3-0 victory over Schalke at the VELTINS-Arena. Kylian Mbappe, Dean Huijsen and summer signing Carlos Espi all scored for Los Blancos, who won four of their five fixtures in the lead-up to the 2026-27 campaign starting next weekend.
As per MD, head coach Jose Mourinho spoke to Real Madrid TV to discuss where he sees his side ahead of the season opener against Espanyol next week. He admitted that he is pleased with everyone's condition, including those who only just returned following an extended break after the 2026 World Cup.
"At the moment, it's difficult to speak individually, because we're growing as a team. Here we only have good, very good and very, very good players. From the combination of the work of these players we have to make a very good team. I think we are taking the right steps to do it.
"I'm very happy with the last ones who arrived, it's not easy to get into a high intensity, have a double session morning and afternoon, an incredible heat, and they arrived with a top mentality. The question of 45 minutes for Kylian, for Konate, 30 for Jude, Cucurella, Diomande, are things that we **** yse scientifically with data we have and with the player's own experience, the knowledge of his body. We arrive in a very acceptable condition for this moment of the season."
Mourinho is also pleased with how his players are becoming a cohesive unit, and he expects things to get better and better as they all get up to match speed.

The full agreement between Barcelona and Manchester City for Rodri Hernández is shaking up the summer transfer market, while Real Madrid wrap up their preseason with a big win and LaLiga gets its first season underway.
The Madrid-based press is focusing on the positive feelings around Real Madrid in the final stretch of their preparations. Marca leads its front page with the headline "A top-level Madrid" after their emphatic 0-3 win over Schalke 04, highlighting that Kylian Mbappé needed only six minutes to find the net.
For its part, AS leads with "Mbappé shines with Mourinho", underlining the French star's leadership and the strong defensive and goalscoring displays from players such as Huijsen and Espí. At the top, both papers agree in highlighting the imminent agreement between Barça and Manchester City for Rodri.
In the Catalan press, the real bombshell of the summer is stealing all the attention. Sport declares on its front page with a resounding "Signed!" to announce the full agreement for Rodri for a fee close to 60 million fixed plus add-ons.
Along very similar lines, Mundo Deportivo headlines "Rodri YES" and adds that João Cancelo will also arrive on a free transfer after ending his ties with Al Hilal. Both outlets round out their front pages with Barça's 2-5 win in Basel, featuring a brace from Bisiwu and major contributions from the youngsters.

Only Murders In The Building and Waverly Place star Selena Gomez is sounding fairly ******* off this week, denouncing a recent fraud lawsuit launched against her mental health wellness brand Wondermind. Per People, the lawsuit was aimed at Gomez, her mother Mandy Teefey, and former Wondermind co-CEO Daniella Pierson, claiming the trio "falsely represented" the company's "infrastructure, leadership, and resources" while soliciting more than a million dollars in investments—which is a fancy way to say that there have been a lot of allegations that, while the company sold itself as being able to capitalize on Gomez's massive celebrity and social media following (something that's made her cosmetics company Rare Beauty a reportedly billion-dollar business), in actuality, it was being run almost entirely by Teefey, with very little involvement from her famous daughter.
All of this was laid out in a fairly brutal September 2025 article in The Cut, which talked to several anonymous former Wondermind employees about the not-especially-pleasant-sounding experience of working for Teefey, who the article portrayed as unwell, disorganized, and generally not up to the strain of running a company alone. (Pierson, founder of The Newsette—and the subject of her own takedown article in Forbes last year—exited Wondermind a year after its 2021 founding, reportedly after conflict with Teefey.) The lawsuit says investors got seriously worried about getting their money back when Forbes ran a report back in May 2025 that the company had failed to pay its employees; Gomez reportedly stepped in to cover the debts.
(Meanwhile, if you're wondering what Wondermind—which bills itself as "The World's First Mental Fitness Ecosystem—actually does or makes, the answer is: Not very much, as far as we can tell. The site has run a blog, which has only intermittently been updated in recent years, and ran two short-lived podcasts in the past. But plans for snack offerings, a docuseries about Venus Williams, an app, and film projects have all failed to materialize. Many of the staffers quoted in The Cut article noted that Teefey—whose biggest professional success was pretty objectively the period where she served as Gomez's manager in the early years of her career, before being fired by her daughter in 2014—was good at suggesting projects, but not at actually bringing them to fruition.)
Gomez, like we said, sounds pretty angry to be getting her name and brand dragged through the mud with all this. Per People, her legal team put out a statement this weekend, stating that "The allegations that Selena Gomez engaged in any way whatsoever in any purported 'fraud' or other wrongdoing are completely meritless, both factually and legally. We will vigorously defend these false allegations and indeed are filing a motion to dismiss the baseless claims against her." Teefey and Pierson, both named as co-defendants, haven't made public statements as of yet.

The Carolina Panthers' starting offense ended their day against the Buffalo Bills on Saturday with a resounding thud. Quarterback Bryce Young managed just 18 yards in the first half on five pass attempts, with the unit failing to pick up a single first down on any of their three possessions.
Fortunately, the second-string offense proved a little more lively—albeit against backups for Buffalo's defense. In his first possession of the game, backup quarterback Kenny Pickett led a 10-play, 83-yard touchdown drive to get Carolina on the scoreboard just before the break.
Along the way, Pickett completed 11-yard passes to running back Trevor Etienne and wide receiver Jimmy Horn Jr. The Bills helped with a 15-yard face mask penalty, as Pickett got clobbered by several defenders at once.
Pickett finished the drive with a well-placed ball to wide receiver Ja'seem Reed on a slant route.
Pickett ended the first half having completed all three of his throws for 28 yards and a 145.1 passer rating.
