Chris Brown is getting another shot at the eight-figure verdict handed down against him in the dog-mauling case brought by his former housekeeper, but only if she refuses to accept less money.
According to legal documents obtained by Complex, Los Angeles judge Huey P. Cotton ruled that Brown and his company Black Pyramid LLC are entitled to a new trial limited to damages for Maria Avila, unless Avila consents to having her award reduced to $9.5 million. Judge Cotton denied all of Brown's other motions in the filing. Avila was originally awarded $12.9 million by a jury.
Cotton found the jury's $12.9 million figure excessive, pointing to insufficient evidence of permanent nerve damage and of the dollar value the panel attached to Avila's future pain and suffering. The judge did credit the evidence that Avila faces future humiliation, shame, and embarrassment.
The rest of Brown's arguments went nowhere. Cotton rejected the claim that jurors were tainted by the admission of Brown's 2009 felony ******* ault conviction involving Rihanna.

An ancient ground carving that was severely damaged by the administration’s border wall construction was created before Stonehenge and Egypt’s oldest pyramid, according to recently publicized research.
The Las Playas Intaglio, a giant fish carved into the Sonoran Desert in Arizona, is now considered the oldest example in the Americas of a geoglyphic, the ancient art form that is carved into or drawn on the ground.
In April, contractors hired by the Trump administration to make way for a second wall along the Arizona-Mexico border “scraped” a 50-foot swath through the ancient carving, according to the Center for Biological Diversity, which documented the damage.
The intaglio on the ground of the ancestral homeland of the Tohono O’odham and other Indigenous tribes is estimated to be about 2,000 years older than Egypt’s first pyramid and to have been created about 1,500 years before the first construction of Stonehenge and 4,000 years before Peru’s Nazca Lines, researchers have found.
The formerly 272-foot carving had originally been thought to be about 1,000 years old. But the latest research dates the art’s creation to at least 6,500 years ago, and possibly as much as 7,500 years ago.

Altrata's Billionaire Census 2026 delivers a single figure that reframes how concentrated the top of the global wealth pyramid has become. The planet's 29 richest people, who make up 0.7% of the billionaire population, held a combined net worth of $4.1tn in 2025, or 27% of all billionaire wealth. The report calls this group the "superbillionaires," and the share they command has moved sharply in a very short window.
The threshold for superbillionaire status is a personal fortune in excess of $50bn. That is a net worth cutoff, not income, and Altrata's figures reflect the estimated value of an individual's total **** et base as of the 2025 data year. The combined wealth of the 29 implies an average fortune in the region of $140bn, though the report notes the distribution inside the tier is far from uniform.

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – There are no guarantees in golf and Scottie Scheffler's season, while insanely consistent, is a testament to how fickle the ancient game can be even for those at the very top of the competitive pyramid.
But even with the vagaries of golf, there was a competitive shudder when Scheffler maintained his two-shot lead at the FedEx St. Jude Championship with a third-round 68 that wasn't as explosive as the world No. 1's 61 on Friday but came with its own share of style points.
Scheffler's patience has been tested this season by his inability to win since The American Express, which he claimed in his first start of 2026 in January. The ball-striking has remained sublime but round after round has been slowed by poor putting. But that hasn't been the case at the playoff opener, where he is third in strokes gained: putting and he needed just 26 putts on Saturday.
Unlike Friday, when he birdied six of his first seven holes, Day 3 was more of a grind on the greens for Scheffler but he was able to maintain his lead and his momentum with timely par saves from 11 and 12 feet at Nos. 3 and 15, respectively.
"Any time you're holing those kind of 10- to 15-footers, it's really nice to keep the round going. I holed a few of those today. It was definitely important to keep the momentum in the round going," Scheffler said. "[No. 3 is a] reachable par-5, a hole where you think you're going to be able to give yourself a look for birdie at the worst. Kind of made a mess of the hole and was able to hole a nice putt there for par."

We didn't know what we were getting from the Dallas Cowboys' secondary in 2026. We knew Christian Parker had intricate plans for schematic change. We knew new players were expected to compete, and rehabbing players were hoping to return. We even knew what things were supposed to look like on paper. What we didn't know is if any of it, or even some of it, was going to work out.
Parker, a first-time defensive coordinator, was more a projection than proven entity. DaRon Bland and Shevon Revel were rehabbing cornerbacks with an uncertain permanent physical status. Malik Hooker and P.J. Locke were safeties with something to prove. While Caleb Downs and Jalen Thompson were new faces with massive expectations.
With so many questions in the secondary, the entire situation had the potential to go extremely well or devastatingly horrible. Halfway through training camp, things are going pretty darn well.
At the top of the food pyramid, Parker is completely as advertised. Not only does he look like Vic Fangio 2.0 in scheme, but his knowledge and ability to educate look next level. He's instilling work ethic and accountability across the unit and his highly complicated scheme is getting digested at an impressive rate.
After avoiding the PUP list at the start of camp, DaRon Bland has looked shockingly healthy in Oxnard. He may not be on a full workload, but he appears ahead of the curve and ready to reclaim the CB1 label that's alluded him for two seasons.

At one of the oldest football grounds in the country, staff are facing a very modern challenge ahead of the new season.
Non-league Gainsborough Trinity have played at the Northolme since 1884, but the stadium lacks the modern irrigation enjoyed by teams higher up the football pyramid.
It means their pitch has suffered from the heat and dry weather this summer.
Head groundsman John Wood says when he started at the Lincolnshire club three decades ago, "it was just a hose out of the changing room".
"Now, we have six in-pitch sprinklers and 17 around the edge which have been on constantly.

The up-and-comers of the 2026 global supply chain might surprise some sourcing executives.
Plummeting trade between China and the United States due to prolonged trade tension has opened up new opportunities for new markets, allowing players like Vietnam, Malaysia, Singapore, Mexico and Brazil to become MVPs within many companies' sourcing matrixes. But Asia and the Americas are home to other sourcing locales that stand to rival or even supersede their rise, according to Verisk Maplecroft.

Two world-title fights have been added to the undercard of Anthony Joshua’s next bout, as the British heavyweight faces Kristian Prenga on 25 July.
Joshua will take on Prenga in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, in a warm-up fight for his long-awaited clash with Tyson Fury, which will take place at an as-yet-unknown date – potentially at Wembley Stadium in London.
Joshua, 36, will fight Albanian Prenga one night after Fury’s own warm-up bout, a contest with Mariusz Wach in Thailand.
And Joshua vs Prenga has solid support in the form of two world-title fights at the Jeddah Superdome, as Hamzah Sheeraz and Josh Kelly star on the undercard.
Sheeraz, 27, will defend the WBO super-middleweight ***** le against Simon Zachenhuber, having won the vacant belt in his most-recent outing – a second-round stoppage of Alem Begic in May, on the undercard of Oleksandr Usyk’s victory over Rico Verhoeven at the pyramids of Giza in Egypt.

US singer Chris Brown has been found liable for a dog attack that left his housekeeper mauled and disfigured at his home in 2020.
Following a two-week trial in Los Angeles, the jury found in favour of Maria Avila, who was attacked by a 200lb (90kg) Caucasian shepherd owned by Brown while she was emptying the rubbish at his house in Tarzana, California.
Brown and his company Black Pyramid LLC must now pay her $12.9m (£9.7m) for negligence, according to US publication Billboard.
BBC News has contacted representatives for Brown for comment.
Aliva said the dog, named Hades, ripped off "large chunks of her skin", which subsequently led to permanent facial disfigurement, scarring, vision loss and nerve damage.

Japan believe they have cracked the code to becoming a football superpower and it has everything to do with joy. Four years ago the JFA released a manifesto outlining exactly how they plan to win the World Cup by 2050. As hosts, no less.
The strategy is filled with the familiar ingredients of pyramid graphics and bullet points, mentions of synergy and talent identification, but the headline that sets The ***** an Way apart arrives on the first page.
“To become the happiest country in the world through football.”
It is an outcome so fantastical that most first-time readers of the 58-page blueprint will stifle a smirk but there is a bit more to it than players having a smile on their face – even if that is a very common sight.
The language used throughout is often repetitive and vague. Two of the half dozen keys to their defensive strategy are “play proactively” and have a “proactive mentality.” One of the six tenets to their attacking vision is to “decide the match with getting the goal.”

Newport County have signed forward Shaquille Gwengwe from Southern League Premier Division South side Poole Town.
The 24-year-old arrives in south Wales after a remarkable campaign in which he scored 46 goals in 46 appearances for the Dorset club, form that County say had "attracted widespread interest from across the football pyramid".
In a statement, Newport added that they had "beaten off strong competition" to secure the striker's signature, with Gwengwe regarded as "one of non-league football's most sought-after forwards".
The forward spent one season at Poole Town having previously played for Dorchester and AFC Totton, where his goalscoring pedigree followed him.
His arrival provides head coach Christian Fuchs with an additional attacking option for the upcoming League Two season, particularly following the departures of Bobby Kamwa and Michael Spellman last week.

Egypt found itself back on the international front pages in the second half of this year. The country played host to the Sharm el-Sheikh conference in October when US President Donald Trump rallied global and regional powers alike behind his ceasefire plan for the Gaza Strip. Shortly after, in November, Cairo invited world leaders to attend the spectacular opening of the new Grand Egyptian Museum next to the pyramids.
Amid these eye-catching events, other domestic developments have received less attention. Most notable were Egypt’s parliamentary elections, with the first round held in Novembe

The Maya civilization, known for its intricate calendar systems, monumental pyramids, and advanced writing, represents a high point of human achievement in the ancient Americas. Yet, around 900 CE, many of its great southern lowland cities were abandoned.
The once-bustling metropolises fell silent, leaving behind mysteries that have puzzled historians and archaeologists for centuries. Why would a society so sophisticated seemingly vanish? There isn't one simple answer. Instead, a combination of factors likely contributed to this complex societal shift.
Here are five leading theories that att

Scans of the third-largest pyramid at Giza, the Menkaure pyramid, have revealed two anomalous pockets of nothing but air hiding behind its sloping stone walls.
The discovery follows earlier findings inside the Great Pyramid of Khufu, including a huge internal void and a corridor near its northern entrance. But the Menkaure cavities are dramatically different in shape, size, and layout – hinting at a very different construction history and purpose.
"The images revealed two anomalies directly behind the polished granite blocks, which would indicate the presence of air-filled voids," writes a t
