The Cleveland Cavaliers have been working to piece together their roster this offseason while pursuing players who can help them compete next season. One name the Cavaliers have been targeting over the past several weeks is NBA champion Peyton Watson.
The Denver Nuggets have been unable to give Watson the contract he is seeking, creating an opportunity for Cleveland to potentially land the talented forward. However, the Cavaliers first needed to find a way to move Dennis Schröder's contract.
"The Cavaliers are actively trying to offload Max Strus and Dennis Schröder's contracts elsewhere to make Peyton Watson a four-year offer via sign-and-trade, per The Stein Line. Cleveland is now viewed as the strong favorites to eventually acquire Watson from the Nuggets," NBA reporter Evan Sidery wrote.
On Friday afternoon, the Cavaliers finally found a way to move Schröder, trading him and cash to the Charlotte Hornets.

Vasil's magic may just be the result of divine intervention, as Pope Leo XIV, who ascended to the papacy on May 8, 2025, is a Chicago-area native and diehard White Sox fan.
"We got a pope, and we got a wizard. We have a lot of good luck on our side," star shortstop Colson Montgomery said on Sunday. "Anything to get the fans excited for all that stuff is fun."
The Sox delivered that excitement for fans on Tuesday, honoring His Holiness with a "Pope Hat Night" giveaway for the Sox' game against the Cincinnati Reds. Initially intended for just the first 2,500 fans, all 38,113 attendees of the Rate Field sellout crowd were gifted a complimentary Sox-themed pope hat.
Chicago went all out for the night's festivities, and the CHSN broadcast did its best to keep up, starting with Sister Mary Jo Sobieck of the Dominican Sisters of Springfield "doing her thing," as play-by-play voice John Schriffen noted, and throwing out the first pitch.

Well, I'm not sure what I expected. The Royals stars (Witt, Cags) were showing out both offensively and defensively, but it wasn't enough to overcome the moribund bullpen in a 6-5 loss to the Dodgers that was full of punch-counterpunch.
The 6th inning was the key part. The Royals held a 3-2 lead and Noah Cameron, who had pitched pretty well up to this point, gave up a few hard-hit ****** in a row to put runners on second and third with two outs. John Schreiber came in and promptly blew the game by walking Kyle Tucker and giving up a weak line drive down the right field line just beyond Cags' outstretched glove. All three runners scored to give the Dodgers the lead. Sigh.
The Royals counterpunched with a Kyle Isbel two-run homer in the seventh inning to bring the game back to even-steven at 5-5, but Alex Lange gave up two singles in the bottom of the seventh to relinquish the lead for good. It goes as two runs total charged to Schreiber and Lange, but I don't think Cameron really deserved those runs being charged to him.
It's a shame. Facing Tarik Skubal, the Royals position players put up a good fight.
In the first inning, in his first-ever at-bat against Skubal (really?), Cags fouled off four pitches to hit a grounder that squeaked through the middle to score Witt from second (Cags extended his hitting streak to 9 games with that hit).

The Foals have made no secret of their desire to trim the size of their squad, while departures would also provide some welcome transfer income. Joe Scally, Nathan Ngoumou and Tomas Cvancara are all among those who could leave Gladbach in the coming weeks.
Sporting director Rouven Schröder has now provided an update on the situation surrounding the trio, with signs that developments could be forthcoming.
Scally appears to be the most valuable of the three in terms of potential transfer income. According to Bild, the American could command a fee of around €7 million, while his contract is due to expire next summer.
"Something could definitely still happen there – his profile attracts attention," Schröder is quoted as saying by the tabloid.

Giovanni Reyna has left Borussia Mönchengladbach to join French top-flight side Racing Strasbourg. According to Transfermarkt, the transfer fee is €3 million, which is less than what Gladbach paid to sign the United States international from Borussia Dortmund last summer.
After his return from the World Cup, he left Gladbach's training camp to complete his move to Strasbourg. Reyna signed a contract until 2031 as long-term contracts are standard with BlueCo management.
Reyna has only appeared in 19 Bundesliga games for Gladbach. He played 147 games in all competitions for Borussia Dortmund in the previous six seasons. Reyna was part of the United States squad that reached the Round of 16 in the 2026 World Cup.
"Gio (Reyna) is an excellent player who unfortunately only showed glimpses of his potential during his year here. He was unable to consistently demonstrate his ability on the pitch due to several injuries. In fact, a third of those surveyed said they have more credit card debt than retirement savings. There are also signs that wealthier clients are feeling the squeeze. It's a great chance for advisors to help clients prioritize spending to stay on track for retirement without overextending their resources today.
"While many are still contributing to retirement, they're finding it harder to increase their savings each year," said Nathan Sebesta, an advisor at Access Wealth Strategies. "Retirement savings shouldn't simply be what's left over at the end of the month. It should be treated like any other essential bill."

As high school flag football continues to grow in popularity, so does the number of Section V players earning recognition among the state's best.
The New York State Sportswriters **** ociation put together the first set of all-state flag football teams in 2025. This year's selections include seven players at Section V schools named first team all-state, one more than last season.
Webster Schroeder quarterback Emma Rascoe has completed her high school playing days as a two-time member of the Class B all-state first team offense.
Rascoe, the 2026 Democrat and Chronicle All-Greater Rochester Player of the Year, finished with 63 touchdown passes and 78 total touchdowns during her senior season as Webster Schroeder went 14-2. She finished with 4,729 all-purpose yards, including 3,776 passing yards, while helping the Warriors win the Section V Class B championship. The Warriors were state champions in 2025.
Bishop Kearney standout Nela Lopusanova, a three-time AGR first team member, and East Rochester defensive star Payton Kinney earned Class C first-team all-state honors for the second consecutive year.

Following ESPN's somewhat shocking dismissal of Ryan Clark this week, reports suggested he was let go because of an incident last fall with fellow NFL ***** yst Peter Schrager.
The moment came early last NFL season on Get Up, when a conversation about NFL wide receivers resulted in Clark pushing back on Schrager's perspective and saying, "That's the non-player in you." In response, Schrager said Clark was belittling him, and most of the sports media world came to Schrager's defense, accusing Clark of being a bad on-air teammate.
By the following week, the two had seemingly come to an understanding, and continued to appear together on ESPN programming, even fist-bumping in a show of unity on NFL Live. Still, The Athletic reported this week that the dispute with Schrager was a major part of why ESPN laid Clark off.
But in an episode of his own podcast, The Pivot, released Friday, Clark claimed that situation was "not why I got fired."
"Me and Peter don't have an issue," he said. "I would think if you asked him right now, obviously after what went on with us, there's been ***** ody that's been nicer to him."

Peter Schrager's 2 p.m. show seems to be sports media's worst-kept secret at this point.
OutKick's Bobby Burack reported that ESPN is expected to announce a new 2 p.m. show hosted by Schrager in the coming week(s). The show itself has been the expected outcome of ESPN's afternoon lineup shuffle since at least May, when The Athletic's Andrew Marchand reported that a program built around Schrager was the leading candidate to replace the 2 p.m. edition of SportsCenter.
Schrager's name has been tied to ESPN's afternoon shakeup since almost the moment Around the Horn was canceled. When CNBC's Alex Sherman first reported that ESPN was considering replacing the 2 p.m. SportsCenter, he described the concept as an "all-sports" show rather than another NFL-only hour, and Marchand reported last spring that Schrager doing a show at 2 or 5 p.m. was "pretty likely," floating the idea that he could be "a central figure in some sort of ensemble" rather than a solo act.
Schrager joined ESPN from NFL Network and Fox Sports last April after nearly a decade as one of the faces of Good Morning Football, and quickly became a fixture across Get Up, First Take, NFL Live, and The Pat McAfee Show. He stole the show at McAfee's NFL Draft Spectacular that spring, launched The Schrager Hour podcast with Omaha Productions in the fall, and stepped in as a guest host for Mike Greenberg on Get Up, a run that gave ESPN executives confidence he could anchor an hour of his own, per Marchand's reporting. He's also been candid about missing the three-hour daily runway he had at Good Morning Football, where he could spend eight minutes on whatever topic interested him that day. A solo show would hand him something close to that format again.
The 5 p.m. hour, by contrast, looks like it's staying put. That slot has also been filled by SportsCenter since Around the Horn's cancellation, and while Scott Van Pelt was floated for months as a candidate to take it over, he confirmed on his own podcast in April that he's staying in his late-night role rather than moving. ESPN executive Burke Magnus had pushed hard for a reunion between Van Pelt and Ryen Russillo to anchor the new hour, telling Andrew Marchand it was "a bit of a selfish concept by me" given how big a fan he'd been of their old radio pairing, but Russillo's own schedule — and later move to Barstool — made the setup unlikely. Without a concept he could actually build around, Van Pelt opted to stay with the format that's already earned his SportsCenter 10 Emmy nominations and regularly lands him timely interviews with players and coaches in the immediate aftermath of major games, interviews that simply wouldn't be available to a show airing at 5 p.m. instead of after primetime.

Paralympic medallist Daphne Schrager insists she has "never cheated" after being given a two-year ban following an "unintentional" positive test for a banned substance.
Schrager, who won a silver medal at Paris 2024, tested positive for the banned substance Ligandrol, which selectively builds muscle and bone mass.
However, the ban has been backdated to start when she was initially suspended on 2 June 2025.
It will end on 1 June 2027, meaning Schrager could still compete at the 2028 Paralympic Games in Los Angeles. However, she has been left out of the England squad for the Commonwealth Games, currently taking place in Glasgow.
The substance was found after the 25-year-old completed an out-of-competition test last year.

July 21 (Reuters) - A top Democratic U.S. senator on Tuesday urged banks and trading firms to shun a new product offering early access to posts on President Donald Trump's Truth ‌Social platform, warning it creates a "very troubling form of information asymmetry" for government policies, while Wall Street banks showed ‌little interest in the product.
Earlier this month, TMTG unveiled a paid, licensed data feed that will give banks and trading firms "the fastest" access to posts from influential Truth Social accounts, including Trump's, whose posts often move global markets.
One source at a large bank said the institution was not considering acquiring the API, and if it did, a review of political risk would be needed. The person, asking for anonymity to discuss a sensitive issue, said access to the president's Truth Social posts would create a different risk than buying faster access to market or ‌trading data, because it would mean paying for ⁠access to a government official discussing policy.
A second source familiar with the matter at another major bank said the bank was not currently considering subscribing.

Americans who currently contribute to a workplace retirement plan such as a 401(k) believe they will need $1.2 million in savings to retire comfortably, according to Schroders' 2026 US Retirement Survey.
About half of them shouldn't count on being able to do so. They're actually on track to have less than $500,000 in savings at retirement — including 24% who say it's unlikely they will have $250,000 set aside.
"Many participants know they're falling short of their retirement savings goals, and it's no surprise that more than 80% worry about running out of money in retirement," Deb Boyden, head of US defined contribution at Schroders, a multinational ******* et management company, told Yahoo Finance.
There are scads of reasons why that potential shortfall is not out of the realm of possibility, according to data crunched from US investors.
Schroders' survey was conducted by marketing consultancy 8 Acre Perspective from March 20 through April 15 among 1,500 US investors ages 30 to 79, including 382 retired respondents.
