The White House on Thursday withdrew the nomination of Oklahoma state trooper Lance Schroyer to lead Immigration and Customs Enforcement after a Republican blocked his confirmation hearing.
Schroyer's nomination stalled after Senate Homeland Security Chair Rand Paul (R-Ky.), a foe of Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin, requested that the Department of Homeland Security provide his committee with more information about its investigation into two ICE and Border Patrol agents accused of killing two U.S. citizens in Minneapolis in January.
Paul, who as chair controls the committee's hearing and markup agenda, did not oppose Schroyer's nomination, per Drew Carmichael, a spokesperson for the senator.
Schroyer was a surprise pick to lead ICE. He had no experience leading a major law enforcement agency, let alone an organization the size of ICE. But Schroyer has close ties with the DHS secretary. Schroyer at one point led Mullin's security detail and Mullin made Schroyer a senior adviser at DHS.
The White House and DHS did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

The company said it combines planning software, high-density terrain-following solar arrays, storage, and field robotics into one system, which enables Planted to build on parcels of land that legacy trackers cannot use. The company said its system also delivers twice the energy per acre, resulting in smaller project footprints and a lower profile on the landscape.Planted said its array "is simplified, designed for automation, and defined in software," and thus can deliver new power generation capacity in months rather than years. Planted's most recent build, a 28-MW behind-the-meter project serving a neocloud data center, went from first call to power in 10 months, with field construction completed in under three months.Planted on Tuesday said the company's development model "is proven and bankable," and noted its projects carry independent engineering validation and project financing. Don't let the final score deceive you. It was uglier than that. Matthew Stafford, the reigning NFL MVP, threw helium **** , and Garrett, the reigning Defensive Player of the Year, was quite literally invisible. The Rams as a whole looked lifeless and, well, jet-lagged.

The Rockies hung around for most of Thursday night at Yankee Stadium.
Then the seventh inning happened.
Colorado had just pulled within two runs when the Yankees answered with six in the bottom half, capped by Anthony Volpe's grand slam, and turned a quiet, almost competitive game into a 10-3 rout.
The loss completed a three-game sweep and dropped the Rockies to 55-91, while New York improved to 84–62. John Schreiber earned the win for the Yankees, while Ryan Feltner fell to 5-10.
For much of the night, though, the final score did not match the feel of the game. The Yankees grabbed an early lead, but Feltner settled in, Colorado kept finding small openings and New York never quite put the game away.

After adding veteran safety Taylor Rapp to their practice squad on Monday, the Denver Broncos cut undrafted rookie long snapper Luke Basso to make room for Rapp, according to KUSA-TV's Mike Klis.
Basso (6-3, 246 pounds) signed with the Broncos as a UDFA out of Oregon this spring. He competed with Mitch Fraboni this summer and after both players failed to make the 53-man roster, Denver signed each to the practice squad. Fraboni is expected to eventually get fully promoted to the active roster, and Basso will likely be kept in mind in case the Broncos ever need a fill-in long snapper down the road.
Rapp becomes the second safety on the practice squad, joining seventh-round draft pick Miles Scott. It wouldn't be surprising to see Rapp eventually fully promoted to the active roster once he gets up to speed in Denver.

European PE add-ons are stuck at decade highs for the obvious reason—sponsors playing it safe—but increasingly also because a consolidated platform is what enhances the chance to exit.
According to PitchBook's Q2 2026 European PE Breakdown, there were 2,121 add-on deals in H1 2026, reaching a decade high of 57.7% of the total European PE deal count. It's the third straight quarter the strategy has held near record levels.
Richard Damming, head of PE investments Europe at Schroders Capital, spoke with PitchBook News about why a consolidated platform may help secure an exit in the subdued market and how to create value in times of low financial leverage.

C3.ai's fiscal first-quarter results replaced a speculative earnings setup with a mixed turnaround test. The company reported $52.4 million of revenue, within its $50 million to $54 million guidance but down 25% from $70.3 million a year earlier. Subscription revenue was $49.2 million, or 94% of total revenue, compared with $60.3 million in the prior-year quarter. C3.ai, Inc. (NYSE:AI) therefore stabilized within management's lowered expectations, without yet returning to growth.
There were encouraging operating signals. Bookings increased 73% sequentially, the company signed 22 agreements, and free cash flow improved to positive $2.1 million from negative $34.3 million a year earlier. Its non-GAAP operating loss narrowed 33% sequentially to $36.2 million. Management guided fiscal second-quarter revenue to $51 million to $55 million and maintained full-year revenue guidance of $210 million to $240 million. Still, both ranges imply that a rapid return to the prior year's scale is unlikely.
Those figures complicate, rather than erase, DA Davidson ***** yst Lucky Schreiner's bearish case. In a September 1 note, Schreiner reiterated an Underperform rating and a $7 target, while seeing possible professional-services upside and stabilization in subscription trends. Revenue landed near the middle of guidance, and subscription revenue represented a larger share of the mix. However, stabilization at a much lower level is not the same as renewed expansion.
The bearish evidence remains substantial. GAAP gross margin was only 32%, and the company posted a $92.8 million GAAP net loss, or $0.60 per share. C3.ai, Inc. (NYSE:AI) still competes against cloud providers, data platforms, and customers building applications internally. Better bookings and cash flow must translate into durable subscription growth and improving margins before the results demonstrate an economic turnaround.
Hedge funds showed cautious improvement rather than conviction. Insider Monkey counted 29 hedge funds holding the shares in Q2, up from 25 in Q1. Point72 ***** et Management increased its position 154% to 568,406 shares. That is notable, but 13F filings reveal positions rather than investment rationales.

The Charlotte Hornets revamped their roster in many ways after a ninth-place finish in the Eastern Conference during the 2025-26 season. LaMelo Ball and Miles Bridges are the most notable departures, with Naz Reid, Grayson Allen and Dennis Schroder headlining the list of acquisitions.
Following these moves, ESPN took the time to preview the Hornets ahead of the 2026-27 season. In that preview, ESPN ranked Charlotte as the No. 20 team in their power index. This number is slightly down from last season's production, as the Hornets finished with the 17th-best record between both conferences a season ago. That said, the Hornets were given an "A-" grade for their offseason moves, building for the future while remaining hopeful to compete for a playoff spot, which would be their first since the 2015-16 season.
When evaluating Charlotte's biggest "X factor," ESPN gave three responses, all centers. Moussa Diabate, Ryan Kalkbrenner and rookie Hannes Steinbach were selected, as each has their own unique strengths within the Hornets' rotation.

The Cleveland Cavaliers didn't blow up anything after getting swept by the Knicks in the Eastern Conference Finals, and I think that was the right call, because this team was already pretty close. Cleveland finished 52-30, ranked sixth in offensive rating at 119.2, and reached its first Conference Finals since 2018, so the answer wasn't starting over, it was finding better pieces around a core that still has the talent to win the East.
The front office basically doubled down on that idea during the summer. Donovan Mitchell signed a four-year, $273.0 million extension, James Harden came back on a three-year, $97.0 million deal after arriving for Darius Garland at the deadline, and the Cavaliers made their biggest outside move by landing Peyton Watson in a five-team sign-and-trade. Max Strus, Dennis Schroder, Dean Wade, and Keon Ellis are among the players gone, while Mario Hezonja also returned to the NBA after several seasons in Europe.
That leaves Cleveland with a very clear bet for 2026-27: The Big Four have to be good enough to carry most of this. There isn't another superstar coming, and they have the pieces to win, because Mitchell averaged almost 28 points last season, Harden can still run an elite offense, Mobley is entering his prime, and Allen remains one of the better centers in the East.
The problem is that we already saw this group hit a wall in the playoffs. Cleveland scored only 107.9 points per game during the postseason, Harden dropped to 19.2 points and 5.5 **** ists while shooting 29.9% from three, and the Knicks beat them by 37 points in Game 4 to finish the sweep.
This season isn't really about proving the Cavaliers are good. We already know about their talent, now they have to prove this Big Four can actually finish the job in a stacked Eastern Conference.

Two of the players the Broncos cut on Sunday — tight end Justin Joly (a fifth-round draft pick) and cornerback Reese Taylor — were claimed off waivers by the Miami Dolphins on Monday. Denver also lost defensive lineman Jordan Miller, who opted to join Miami's practice squad.

Skims has made two major changes to its leadership positions, including the hiring of former Supreme chief creative officer Eric Magee.
As reported by Women's Wear Daily, the company announced on Monday (Aug. 24) that longtime creative director Kim Schraub has been promoted to chief brand officer and Magee has been hired as chief design officer. Schraub has been working for Skims, which was co-founded by Kim Kardashian and Jens Grede in 2019, before it officially launched. She previously led product, packaging, and campaigns, but now she'll handle the brand across retail, campaigns, collaborations, and storytelling.
"Kim has been with us since before Skims existed. She helped turn an idea into a brand that people genuinely love," said Kardashian. "Her creative instincts have helped shape everything about how Skims shows up in the world, and this promotion is a reflection of the enormous impact she has had, and the trust Jens and I have in her vision. NEC Nijmegen have announced the signing of Dennis Geiger from Hoffenheim on a two year contract. The midfielder, who was on loan at Aberdeen last season, reunites with head coach ****** Schreuder, who had been an ****** istant to Alfred Schreuder when he was in charge of the Bundesliga side. The 28-year-old central midfielder joins an NEC Nijmegen side that will be playing Europa League football this season having missed out on Champions League football at the final hurdle.
Geiger leaves Hoffenheim after coming through the sides youth academy and playing 147 games for the Bundesliga side, scoring six goals. The former German youth international found his appearances limited last season and left during the January transfer window to join Scottish side Aberdeen on loan. Geiger played 13 games for Aberdeen, scoring once.

An Israeli court has acquitted a Jewish man who attacked a nun in Jerusalem, in an incident caught on CCTV which drew widespread condemnation.
Jerusalem Magistrates Court said Yona Schreiber was experiencing a psychotic episode when he pushed over and kicked the French nun in the Old City in occupied East Jerusalem in April. It ruled that he was not criminally responsible for his actions and ordered him to be sent to a psychiatric hospital for up to six years.
Video of the attack caused outrage, and deepened concerns after a rise in harassment of Christian clergy and pilgrims by Jewish extremists in the Old City.
The victim, who hit her head on a stone block, suffered a bruised face and leg.
Schreiber, 36, had been charged with **** ault motivated by hostility towards a religious group.

Blackbird, one of the longest-running venture capital funds in Australia and New Zealand (ANZ), has fully closed its sixth fund at a record A$1.05 billion (about $740 million).
The Sydney-based VC drew re-commitments from Australian sovereign and superannuation investors, including the Future Fund, Aware Super, HESTA and Hostplus. It also received cheques from new LPs from the US and Asia, including Morgan Stanley Investment Management, Adams Street Partners, and Schroders.
This is among the region's largest VC fund closes, as institutional LPs flock to large, established investors amid a flight to quality.
According to Blackbird general partner Samantha Wong, the venture firm has distributed $1.4 billion on a total of $2.1 billion invested across half a dozen transactions since its 2012 inception.
Most of these exits took place in the past few years, with secondaries playing a major role, she added.

European qualifiers for the 2027 FIBA World Cup continued Thursday, meaning recent Charlotte Hornets trade acquisition Dennis Schroder was in action, playing for his home country of Germany. After defeating Croatia Saturday to lift the DBB Supercup **** le, Germany continued their winning ways behind another strong performance from Schroder.
Schroder finished Thursday's contest against the Netherlands with 23 points in 26 minutes on 7-for-11 shooting from the field, 7-for-7 shooting from the free throw line and 2-for-6 shooting from beyond the arc. He also added six **** ists, two steals and one rebound as Germany cruised to a 99-83 victory. With the win, Germany is now 6-1 in European World Cup qualifiers and sits third in Group K. Their next match is scheduled Sunday against Poland. Only Poland and Turkey remain undefeated through the first six matches of group play.

Aug 26 (Reuters) - A U.S. Air Force judge on Wednesday ordered Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, the accused mastermind ‌of the September 11, 2001, attacks on the United States, and three co-defendants to go ‌on trial before a military tribunal in June 2028.
The trial-scheduling order entered by Air Force Lieutenant Colonel Michael Schrama marked the latest milestone in a military prosecution beset by two decades of legal deadlock surrounding the four detainees held in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba.
Last month, a U.S. appeals court refused to allow Mohammed and two of his co-defendants to plead guilty under agreements that would have spared them the death penalty.
