First-inning runs alone won't get you over the line most of the time. Stopping at a pair of early solo shots—at least until the ninth inning—the Dodgers' offense left a lot to be desired in a 4-3 loss to the Marlins, as Tyler Glasnow went through plenty of issues in his shortest regular start of the season (4+ IP). NEW DELHI: Social media has found a fun new way to bring the 1980s back, with AI turning modern-day pictures into vintage portraits. The trend has now reached the Indian cricket team, with several players enjoying a hilarious surprise ahead of their T20I series against Afghanistan in Delhi.
Two days before the series, the Indian players gathered at their hotel for a photo session. But before it began, they found a table filled with AI-generated pictures of themselves.
The portraits, featured in a video shared by the BCCI, showed the players in classic 1980s looks, complete with bell-bottom jeans, big sunglasses and retro hairstyles.
India allrounder Axar Patel and Abhishek Sharma picked up the portraits and burst out laughing as they showed them to their teammates. Jasprit ****** rah also joined in the fun.

What should've been a routine force out turned into a disaster as the throw forced Jeffers to stretch to make the catch, causing his foot to drift an inch away from home plate, allowing the runner to score.

The San Francisco 49ers waived tight end Brayden Willis Saturday to make room for long snapper Jon Weeks on the active roster.
Per the NFL's transaction wire, Willis went unclaimed. Willis showed positional versatility during the preseason, but he was also a 7th-rounder from '23 with as many regular-season receptions since then as you and I.
That means the team can bring him back to the practice squad and potentially elevate him to the active roster for this upcoming week against the Rams. He's expected to practice with the team after re-joining the practice squad, as he did not leave Australia, per Matt Maiocco.
Willis's best chance to contribute offensively is at fullback. During this past preseason, he lined up at fullback 15 times. Kyle Juszczyk recently returned to practice after breaking his finger. If Juszczyk can't perform his usual duties or gets hurt again, Willis is his logical backup — ***** uming the team would have him on the active roster so he can play special teams.
Juszczyk is entering the final year of his two-year contract. He's 35. It makes you wonder if the 49ers want to keep Willis around to take over for Juszczyk if this ends up being Juice's final year as a Niner. In my opinion, Willis offers more out of the backfield than as a tight end. That was likely part of the reason he was waived.

Chennai: Veteran India speedster Mohammed Shami maybe out of India reckoning for now, but he still refuses to give up. When East Zone play South Zone in the Duleep final at the MA Chidambaram Stadium here on Sunday, the 36-year-old will be appearing in his 100th First-Class match, with a prolific record of 382 wickets so far.
East Zone skipper Ishan Kishan was effusive in his praise of the senior bowler on the eve of the **** le clash, stressing that age remains irrelevant when backed by exceptional work ethic and fierce determination.
"For Shami, age is just a number. If he is working hard, it doesn't matter. Having someone like him in our team gives us immense confidence. Every baseball fan is familiar with the scam known as the shell game— after all, it's present, in more innocuous form, in the cap shuffle ubiquitous to scoreboards. Tonight Zack Wheeler offered the visiting Braves a shell game, tempting them with three baserunners through three at-bats… but when the Braves selected their shell, there weren't very many runs underneath.
The start was rather subpar for the home crowd, with Wheeler allowing a pair of singles to the first two Braves, then walking Matt Olson to load the bases with none away. But a pop fly and a strikeout (aided by a canny ABS challenge from J.T. Realmuto) put him just a single out away from pulling off the great escape. Ozzie Albies flew out to center, and the Braves trudged back to the dugout with the dreaded ****** LETIGER (No Outs, Bases Loaded, Ending in Team Incapable of Getting Easy Runs, it's a real term) nipping at their heels.
But the Phillies would give Atlanta starter Martin Pérez a rougher start. Ravindra Jadeja has been a mainstay of India's Test team for more than a decade, but former India wicketkeeper-batter Deep Dasgupta believes the time has come for the team to start looking beyond the veteran all-rounder in the longest format.
Jadeja aged 37, finished India's recent two-Test tour of Sri Lanka with eight wickets across four innings. However, Dasgupta felt the Indian spin attack failed to consistently exert pressure on the hosts, particularly on surfaces where the visitors would have expected their spinners to play a major role.
The former India player singled out the second Test in Colombo, where Sri Lanka were forced to follow on but managed to fight back strongly. Sonal Dinusha's century helped the hosts frustrate India and build a substantial lead before the match eventually ended in a draw.

Ben Stokes is set to make his mark in the Big Bash League with the Adelaide Strikers, and coach Tim Paine believes the England all-rounder could be particularly effective if he opens the batting.
Stokes' one-year deal with the Strikers was confirmed on Tuesday, making him available for the entire BBL season. Paine believes the 35-year-old can make an impact across all three departments while also bringing his leadership experience to the side. The Strikers had Matt Short and Chris Lynn as their regular opening combination last season, but Lynn is currently off contract, meaning the pair could be split up even if he returns to the franchise.
Paine sees Stokes as an ideal candidate to take the new ball with the bat, particularly on Australia's traditionally pace-friendly and bouncy pitches.

A senior member of Pakistan's selection committee has questioned the seriousness of Imam-ul-Haq's calf injury and called for an inquiry after the opener did not bat in either innings during Pakistan's 194-run defeat to England in the second Test at Lord's.
Aaqib Javed, who is part of Pakistan's four-member selection panel, said the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) will investigate how Imam was managed after suffering the injury during the match.
"An inquiry will be conducted into this matter," Aaqib Javed told Pakistan's private news channel Geo TV during an interview aired on Tuesday night, as quoted by news agency AP.
Javed questioned how a player could miss both innings because of a muscle injury.
"How is it possible that you failed to come out to bat in both innings after pulling up a muscle?" Javed said.
He added that players have batted through injuries in the past and described Imam's case as a matter of concern.
"Injuries do occur and we have seen instances in the past where players -- even with casts -- have gone out and made an effort. This situation is different. It is a matter of great concern, and action will be taken regarding it."
Imam injured his calf while fielding on the opening day of the Lord's Test and took no further part in the match.
After former chief selector Mohammad Wasim questioned Imam's absence, the opener appeared on the outfield before play on the fourth day. He was seen shadow batting with his left calf heavily strapped but was visibly limping.

Luke Keaschall was a much-needed spark plug, Walker Jenkins doinked his first MLB homer off the right field pole, Jeffers added two bombs of his own, his first since the last day of July, and Taj Bradley delivered one of his best starts of the season when the Twins most needed it. It was a fun night at the ballpark when the Twins really needed a win!

Twelve months out from the World Cup, the writing is on the wall for Marnus Labuschagne after he was axed from Australia's ODI squad for tour Zimbabwe and South Africa.

South Zone found themselves in a similar situation on Monday. At 80/5, they were staring at the prospect of conceding first-innings lead to North Zone, who had posted 195 in their Duleep Trophy semifinal at the BCCI Centre of Excellence here.
What followed over the next 271 minutes was an exhibition of restraint and disciplined batsmanship as Tilak Varma (106 batting, 225b, 7x4) and Shreyas Gopal (87, 169b, 11x4) took centre stage with a 175-run sixth-wicket partnership. Their stand eventually turned the tide, helping South secure a first-innings lead. They were 285/9 at stumps, 90 runs ahead on the second day.
South, who resumed on 40/2, were rocked by the brilliance of pacer Gurnoor Brar (4/70), who arrived in the city from the Sri Lanka tour on Friday. Making the most of windy conditions, Brar produced a peach in his fifth delivery of the day to disturb Narayan Jagadeesan's stumps. He struck again soon after, producing a similar delivery to castle R Smaran's off stump before dismissing Kodimela Himateja for a duck.
With their backs against the wall, Tilak and Shreyas joined hands and tested the North bowlers' patience.

The Ravens released several players they likely want to re-sign to their practice squad over the weekend, but most are subject to waivers. All 31 teams will have a chance to claim them, in reverse order of last year's standings.
Waivers are set to process at 1 p.m. ET. Here are Baltimore's biggest risks, according to Beatdown's staff.
Dustin's take: The biggest waiver risks for me would be Robert Longerbeam, Adisa Isaac, and Rayshaun Benny. Longerbeam had a very strong preseason in his rebound from a season-ending injury that derailed his rookie season before it began last year. He deserved to make the roster, but the Ravens had too many quality cornerbacks ahead of him. Cornerback depth is of utmost importance in the NFL, so it would not surprise me to see someone claim Longerbeam. Isaac has the pedigree of being a former third-rounder, but injuries have kept him from showcasing his potential so far. I am sure that at least one team will be willing to take a chance on a young athletic pass rusher like Isaac. Similar to Longerbeam, Benny was victim to a loaded position group. Benny played well this preseason, but the team decided to go with Aeneas Peebles as the final defensive lineman over Benny, which is a decision I support.
Zach's take: The Ravens have five main guys I want on the practice squad that I'm worried about getting claimed. The first is recent seventh-round pick defensive tackle Rayshaun Benny, who flashed a bit during the preseason but not enough to steal a spot from Broderick Washington. Benny has pass potential on a brand new rookie contract so there's a chance somebody with lacking defensive line depth could put in a claim. The next is offensive tackle Gerald Lichtenhan. He was maybe the most steady offensive lineman during the preseason and a guy they had last year as well. Offensive line depth is always a luxury in the NFL, so it wouldn't be too shocking to see somebody grab him. Next is the pair of pass rushers the Ravens waived, Adisa Isaac and Kaimon Rucker. Both flashed plenty in the preseason and had sacks but Ethan Burke simply made more plays and impacts more phases of the game. I think at least one of these guys gets claimed, likely Isaac, but hopefully the Ravens can get back at least one, if not both on the practice squad. Lastly, cornerback Robert Longerbeam finally had a chance to show what he could do after suffering an injury during his rookie year last preseason. He showed great coverage and open field tackling ability and I think a team would be lucky to grab him as depth. But hopefully the Ravens can sneak last years draft pick back on their practice squad.
