TOKYO, Aug 20 (Reuters) - ***** an's imports hit a monthly record in July as elevated oil prices drove up energy costs and inflationary pressures, while exports also climbed to an all-time ‌high on a weaker yen and robust semiconductor-related demand.
Total imports by value grew 27.8% from a year ‌earlier to 12.1 trillion yen ($76.39 billion), data showed on Thursday, hitting a fresh record for the second straight month and exceeding market forecasts for a 26.5% increase.
Japan's crude oil import volumes have rebounded as alternative supplies, mainly from the United States, replace Middle Eastern shipments disrupted by the conflict in the Middle East.
The persistence of wholesale inflation, together with resilient exports, is likely to support the case for the Bank of ***** an to continue to normalise monetary policy, as the central bank is ‌set to raise rates as soon as September.

Aug 19 (Reuters) - Coty on Wednesday posted a surprise increase in fourth-quarter revenue on resilient demand for fragrances and cosmetics, and said fiscal 2027 ‌would be a "transition year" as it conducts a strategic review to ‌focus on its key brands.
The company is advancing its "Coty. Curated." strategy to simplify its business and conducting a review of the consumer beauty division, at a time when geopolitical conflicts and economic uncertainty have made customers tighten spending.
The review, expected to complete by year-end, could lead to the sale of brands such as CoverGirl and Rimmel.
The initiative, along with a ‌cost-reduction program, would help offset a likely sales hit in fiscal 2028 from its early return of Gucci Beauty license to Kering , and support profit growth from fiscal 2029, Coty said.
Coty's net revenue rose 1.3% to $1.27 billion in the quarter ended June 30, compared with ******* ysts' average estimate of a 4.6% decline, according to data compiled by LSEG.

Eagle Capital Management, an investment management company, released its second quarter 2026 investor letter. A copy of the letter can be downloaded here. In the quarter, Eagle Capital Management discussed how enthusiasm around AI capital spending has driven strong S&P 500 earnings growth while also increasing risks from elevated valuations, concentrated demand, and aggressive investment ***** umptions. Eagle remains a strong believer in AI but prefers constructing a portfolio that can perform across multiple outcomes rather than relying on one forecast. The firm believes current earnings can overstate underlying economics because semiconductor equipment is depreciated over several years, while free cash flow growth remains much weaker. It also expects competition and additional capacity across AI labs, hyperscalers, and semiconductors to eventually create winners and losers. These dynamics are encouraging Eagle to recycle capital toward attractive opportunities outside the most crowded AI trades while maintaining selective exposure to high quality beneficiaries. The portfolio trades at a 20% market discount with faster expected EPS growth. Please review the Strategy's top five holdings for key selections.
In its second-quarter 2026 investor letter, Eagle Capital Management highlighted Workday, Inc. (NASDAQ:WDAY). Workday, Inc. (NASDAQ:WDAY) is a leading enterprise software company that provides cloud applications for human resources and financial management. On August 18, 2026, Workday, Inc. (NASDAQ:WDAY) closed at $190.64 per share. One-month return of Workday, Inc. (NASDAQ:WDAY) was 43.96% and its shares gained -16.20% over the past 52 weeks. Workday, Inc. (NASDAQ:WDAY) has a market capitalization of $47.09 billion.
Eagle Capital Management stated the following regarding Workday, Inc. (NASDAQ:WDAY) in its Q2 2026 investor letter:
"Software is controversial due to fears of Al-driven disruption. Al makes it easier to build software and will change workflows in how it is used. We believe there will be heightened competition and greater separation between winners and losers over the coming years. The industry is deservedly trading at a higher risk premium, but within the market there are plenty of mispricings.
The companies we own are resilient and highly entrenched in application software. We view them as offering upside optionality. Workday, Inc. (NASDAQ:WDAY), a leading HCM and financials platform, earns mid-teen margins on a business that should have long- term margins of 30% or higher. The founder's return to the CEO role is reigniting product innovation, and we increasingly believe Al will be a net positive for their business, enabling them to play offense. Examples include geographic expansion, adjacent-product extensions, and natural-language querying for business results. We expect EPS growth in the high teens, driven by revenue growth, operating leverage, and share buybacks."

Management characterized 2026 as a transition year focused on disciplined execution and tighter prioritization to build a foundation for long-term growth.
Platform revenue growth of 19% was driven by a resilient global offering and a temporary tailwind from Clearit customs refund activity following tariff policy changes.
Solutions revenue declined 4% due to identified execution gaps in building recurring revenue streams and pricing pressure on renewals.
Transaction growth of 15% was impacted by Middle East conflict disruptions; however, excluding affected routes, growth remained within the long-term target of 20% to 30%.

Payment giants Fiserv, Inc. (NASDAQ:FISV) and Mastercard Incorporated (NYSE:MA) announced a major strategic global partnership on August 4. The deal integrates Mastercard Merchant Cloud into Fiserv Commerce Hub, creating a unified connection for enterprise merchants across online, mobile, and in-store channels. Building on this momentum, Fiserv separately partnered with Stuut Technologies on August 5 to bring agentic AI-enabled automation to B2B enterprise receivables via SnapPay and Commerce Hub. While both agreements showcase how payment rails and software are converging, the underlying financial trajectories of these two companies present a stark contrast.
Bornfree / Shutterstock.com
Mastercard Incorporated is operating at peak efficiency. In Q2 2026, net revenue rose 14% year-over-year (12% currency-neutral) to $9.3 billion, driven by an 8% increase in gross dollar volume to $2.9 trillion, a 12% jump in cross-border volume, and 20% growth in value-added services. Adjusted net income reached $4.5 billion, yielding an adjusted diluted EPS of $5.04, up 21% from Q2 2025. Operating margins expanded to an exceptional 61.1%, proving Mastercard's elite pricing power and operating leverage even as card issuance hit $3.7 billion.
Fiserv, Inc. (NASDAQ:FISV), on the other hand, faces execution hurdles in its corporate turnaround. In Q2 2026, GAAP revenue dropped 4% year-over-year to $5.29 billion, while adjusted revenue fell 4% to $4.96 billion. Adjusted EPS fell 26% to $1.84, missing Wall Street expectations. Top-line contraction was seen across both key segments: Merchant Solutions declined 1% organically, and Financial Solutions dropped 8%. Compounding the pressure, management slashed full-year 2026 organic revenue guidance to between (1%) and 0% (down from 1%–3%) and trimmed adjusted EPS guidance to $7.20–$7.40 (down from $8.00–$8.30), citing transformation costs and elevated technology spending.
Mastercard's bull case is supported by its dominant duopoly position, high operating margins of 61.1%, and strong secular tailwinds from the ongoing shift from cash to digital payments. The company's value-added services, including cybersecurity, fraud prevention, and ***** ytics, are expanding rapidly at around 20%, while resilient cross-border travel provides additional growth and downside protection. Truist ***** yst Matthew Coad highlighted these strengths when raising his price target for Mastercard to $633 from $554 while maintaining a Buy rating on August 5. On the downside, Mastercard's elevated valuation leaves limited room for execution missteps. Capital One's portfolio migration presents a near-term headwind, while increased regulatory scrutiny of swipe fees and a 22% rise in customer rebates in Q2 could pressure long-term yields.

The opening Friday night of the high school football season is in the books, and there was no shortage of outstanding games around the state.
Here's a few notes and highlights from some of those games.
Snow Canyon's 64-62 triple-overtime win over Spanish Fork on Friday night was an absolute barn burner — the definition of an instant classic.
"It felt a lot more like a basketball game than a football game, that's for sure," said first-year Snow Canyon coach Zach Tauteoli. "They would take a punch, we'd feel that punch and then kind of punch back, and then we just ended up on our end kind of a little more resilient."
The teams combined for 1,014 yards, most of those through the air — 784.

And the raised outlook adds another vote of confidence in the brand's ability to keep growing. Management is shifting focus toward issuer-sponsored tokenization, where companies choose to tokenize actual shares on official registers rather than using synthetic third-party wrappers.
The pending acquisition of Equiniti is central to this strategy, providing a direct relationship with nearly 3,000 corporate issuers and 20 million shareholders to drive adoption of tokenized securities.
Second quarter performance was characterized by resilient recurring revenue from subscription services and other (SS&O) lines, which helped offset a moderation in crypto trading volumes and market volatility.
The company successfully executed the first trades of tokenized Bullish shares on its own regulated venue, moving the tokenization strategy from a conceptual blueprint to operational reality.

On August 12, Marex Group (NASDAQ:MRX) turned in a quarter so far ahead of expectations that its stock jumped nearly 19% in a single session. Second quarter revenue climbed 39% year-over-year to $696 million, blowing past the roughly $589 million Wall Street had penciled in. Every one of Marex's four business segments posted double-digit or even triple-digit revenue growth. That kind of across-the-board strength raises an obvious question: is this real, durable momentum, or a peak quarter that investors are chasing after the fact?
Marex's growth in the second quarter of 2026 wasn't confined to one hot desk. Agency and Execution revenue rose 35% to $351 million, Prime revenue hit a record $120 million, and Market Making revenue more than doubled to over $118 million, led by metals and securities. Solutions revenue jumped 74%. Management noted that market volumes on key exchanges actually fell 17% compared to the first quarter, yet adjusted profit before tax still grew 9% quarter-over-quarter anyway. That decoupling from raw exchange activity is the thesis Marex has been building since its IPO in April 2024, and the track record backs it up: adjusted profit before tax has grown year over year in 19 of the last 20 quarters.
The company is also deepening existing relationships rather than simply chasing new logos. Clients generating more than $5 million in annual revenue grew to 77 in 2026, up from just 36 in 2024, and average revenue per client climbed 34%. Acquisitions are compounding that growth further. The roughly $60 million premium Marex paid for its 2025 deals, including Winterflood, now produces about $60 million in annualized profit after tax, a return on that premium in barely a year, with the pending BrightPoint deal set to add more.
Not every figure in the release was pure upside. Reported earnings per share benefited from a $35 million nonoperating gain on the sale of the Winterflood custody business, a one-time boost that adjusted EPS of $1.72 strips back out. Net interest income actually fell to $30 million in the quarter from $35 million a year earlier, as higher interest expense from Marex's $500 million debt issuances in May 2025 and April 2026 ate into the benefit of larger client balances.
The company leaned further into debt during the quarter too, raising another $500 million in hybrid capital and $500 million in senior unsecured notes. And while diversification cushioned the blow, exchange volumes still fell 17% quarter over quarter, a reminder that the business is more resilient to cyclicality now, not immune to it.

Antipodes Partners published its "Antipodes Global Strategy" second-quarter 2026 investor letter, highlighting the key performance stocks, portfolio changes, and the market outlook. A copy of the letter can be downloaded here. The second quarter of 2026 delivered one of the strongest equity market recoveries in recent history, as global equities gained 14.9% in US dollar terms. Renewed enthusiasm for artificial intelligence, strong corporate earnings, and easing tensions with Iran supported the rebound, while growth stocks outperformed value and emerging markets led gains, particularly Korea and Taiwan. The Antipodes Global Value Strategy underperformed its benchmark during the quarter and over the 12 months to June 30, 2026, as returns became concentrated in a narrow group of semiconductor and hardware stocks. Consumer staples and consumer discretionary holdings supported performance, while information technology, software, and internet exposure detracted. The firm remains cautious on expensive memory companies because pricing and supply remain cyclical despite AI demand. The Strategy continues to favor valued infrastructure, specialty semiconductors, resilient software, and quality businesses. For insights into its key selections for 2026, please review the Strategy's top five holdings.
In its Q2 2026 investor letter, Antipodes Global Strategy highlighted TotalEnergies SE (NYSE:TTE). TotalEnergies SE (NYSE:TTE) is a leading energy company that produces and markets oil and biofuels, natural gas, biogas, and low-carbon hydrogen, renewables, and electricity. On August 7, 2026, TotalEnergies SE (NYSE:TTE) closed at $85.83 per share. The one-month return of TotalEnergies SE (NYSE:TTE) was 7.49%, and its shares gained 43.01% over the past 52 weeks. TotalEnergies SE (NYSE:TTE) has a market capitalization of $190.44 billion.
Antipodes Global Strategy stated the following regarding TotalEnergies SE (NYSE:TTE) in its Q2 2026 investor letter:
"TotalEnergies SE (NYSE:TTE) underperformed as weaker crude oil and natural gas prices reduced earnings expectations and cash-flow forecasts across the integrated energy sector in line with geopolitical tensions easing over the Quarter. Concerns over slowing global economic growth and softer fuel demand also weighed on commodity markets, while increased OPEC+ supply expectations added further pressure to oil prices. Although TotalEnergies continued to benefit from its diversified LNG, power and renewable energy portfolio, these positives were outweighed by declining upstream earnings expectations. A broader rotation away from defensive energy stocks toward higher-growth sectors and profit taking after a stronger period also contributed to weakness."

American Airlines Group Inc. (NASDAQ:AAL) delivered a record second quarter, with revenue climbing 16.3% year over year to an all-time high of $16.7 billion as demand strengthened across premium, corporate, domestic, and international travel. Adjusted earnings of $0.15 per diluted share also topped Wall Street expectations.
However, an 83% surge in fuel expense largely offset those gains, highlighting the key question facing investors: can stronger commercial execution eventually overcome one of the industry's biggest cost headwinds?
The strongest argument in favor of American Airlines Group (NASDAQ:AAL) is the quality of its revenue growth rather than the headline number itself. Total revenue rose 16.3% to a company-record $16.7 billion, while capacity increased only 5.4%. Passenger unit revenue improved across premium and Main Cabin products as well as domestic and every major international region. Premium passenger unit revenue increased 13.4%, Main Cabin passenger unit revenue rose 8.8%, and domestic passenger unit revenue advanced 10.6%. The gap between revenue growth and capacity growth suggests American Airlines Group (NASDAQ:AAL) generated a significant portion of its improvement through stronger pricing and higher revenue per available seat rather than simply flying more aircraft.
The broad-based improvement is also encouraging because it extended across premium, Main Cabin, domestic, and international markets rather than being concentrated in a single route or customer segment. Recoveries supported by multiple revenue streams tend to be more resilient, particularly if economic conditions soften or travel demand becomes less predictable.
American Airlines Group's (NASDAQ:AAL) premium strategy is becoming an increasingly important part of its investment case, as it continues to see momentum in its premium revenue performance due to strength in both corporate and premium leisure demand. This is particularly important for the investment case because premium and corporate customers generally generate more revenue per passenger than economy travellers. American Airlines Group (NASDAQ:AAL) is supporting this strategy by adding premium seats through new Boeing 787-9 and Airbus A321XLR deliveries and retrofits of several existing aircraft types. Continued premium growth could improve the airline's revenue mix even if overall passenger growth moderates.

During the quarter ended 30 June 2026, revenue at Under Armour fell 3% year-on-year to $1.1bn, with sales in North America down 9% and Asia-Pacific declining 7%.
International revenue proved more resilient, increasing 5% to $490m, driven by a 12% rise in the Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA) region and an 8% gain in Latin America.
Wholesale revenue declined 2%, while direct-to-consumer sales dropped 6%, including a 12% decrease in eCommerce.
Under Armour president and CEO Kevin Plank said: "As we navigate a challenging consumer demand environment, we continue to make progress in building a more focused Under Armour, despite updating our full-year revenue outlook."
The company's gross margin, however, improved 590 basis points to 54.1%, primarily due to tariff refunds under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA), which offset the negative impact of foreign exchange, regional mix, and pricing pressures.

Investors choosing between high-growth travel disruptors and steady dividend payers face a classic dilemma. Comparing Airbnb Inc (NASDAQ:ABNB) and Coca-Cola Co (NYSE:KO) helps determine which business model fits your specific financial goals.
Airbnb thrives as a platform for unique stays, while Coca-Cola dominates the essential beverage **** e. Both companies have shifted toward **** et-light models to improve efficiency. This comparison examines whether the travel platform's expansion potential outweighs the beverage giant's defensive reliability.
Airbnb connects more than 5 million hosts with travelers in over 220 countries and regions, offering everything from single rooms to unique castles. The company manages a two-sided marketplace within the consumer discretionary stocks **** e where hosts provide the inventory, allowing the platform to scale without owning real estate. Recent efforts focus on a Co-Host Network and expanding active listings to capture more of the global travel market, providing deeper integration for managers who **** ist property owners.
In FY 2025, revenue reached nearly $12.2 billion, representing an increase of approximately 10% compared to the previous year as travel demand remained resilient. The company reported net income of about $2.5 billion for the period, reflecting its ability to generate significant earnings from its platform fees. While the net margin, which measures how much profit a company keeps from every dollar of sales, was roughly 21%, it was lower than the prior fiscal year.
As of its December 2025 balance sheet, the debt-to-equity ratio was approximately 0.3x, indicating the company uses very little debt relative to shareholders' equity. Airbnb generated roughly $4.6 billion in free cash flow, which is the cash left over after paying for operations and equipment. Note that stock-based compensation (SBC) represented roughly 34% of operating cash flow, which inflates reported cash generation since SBC is a non-cash expense added back in the cash flow statement.

Barcelona's young Pau Cubarsi was one of the mainstays in that resilient defence, and did exceedingly well as a teenager to keep his cool and perform under the highest of pressure.
Eventually, he was even rewarded for his exploits and named the best young player of the World Cup.
Now, FIFA president Gianni Infantino took to his official Instagram account to appreciate the Barcelona defender and put his numbers into perspective.
"At only 19 years old, Pau Cubarsí had an extraordinary participation in the FIFA World Cup 2026 with the Spanish national team, becoming the first defender to win the FIFA Young Player Award!," he began.

Aug 5 (Reuters) - Sales of Eli Lilly's Zepbound and Mounjaro injectable weight-loss and diabetes drugs soared during the second quarter, easily beating Wall Street estimates and widening the gap with Danish rival Novo Nordisk.
The trillion-dollar ‌company also posted better-than-expected quarterly results and raised its full-year revenue forecast, and its shares jumped over 5% in early ‌trading.
The strong results are likely to reassure investors that demand for Lilly's GLP-1 treatments remains resilient despite pricing pressure and intensifying competition from Novo, which launched an oral version of its Wegovy weight-loss drug in the U.S. earlier this year.
Sales of diabetes drug Mounjaro rose 91% to $9.94 billion, beating ****** ysts' estimates, while obesity drug Zepbound brought in $4.93 billion, compared with expectations of $4.73 billion. The two drugs accounted for 64.7% of Lilly's revenue in the latest reported quarter.

For most of this year, investors have obsessed over one question: when will the Federal Reserve finally begin cutting interest rates? Every inflation report, jobs release, and manufacturing survey has been dissected for clues. That scrutiny has only intensified since Federal Reserve Chair Kevin Warsh has made it clear the central bank intends to offer less forward guidance, forcing markets to rely more heavily on incoming economic data instead of Fed forecasts.

Growth ETFs are a great way to get exposure to the high return potential of growth stocks while minimizing some of the risks and volatility that tend to come with them. The key, though, is to ensure your growth ETF is set up for sustained success and not riding a temporary wave.
Two growth ETFs you can comfortably hold through thick and thin are the Invesco Nasdaq 100 ETF (NASDAQ: QQQM) and Vanguard Growth ETF (NYSEMKT: VUG). They have both stood the test of time and are positioned to continue doing so.
Missed Nvidia in 2009? This Rare Signal Is Flashing Again. In 2009, a "Double Down" signal flashed for a little-known chipmaker called Nvidia. For the first time in years, that same "Total Conviction" signal is flashing for a company 1/100th the size of Nvidia. Continue »
QQQM mirrors the Nasdaq-100 index, which tracks the 100 largest non-financial companies trading on the Nasdaq stock exchange. It only began trading in October 2020, but we can look at the Nasdaq-100's performance to get an idea of how resilient (and lucrative) it has been.
Since the beginning of 1995, the Nasdaq-100 has averaged 14.4% annual returns, outpacing the S&P 500's 9.2% average in that time. Arguably more impressive is that it has done so despite going through three recessions (those resulting from the dot-com bubble, financial crisis, and COVID-19).

For most of the last two decades, the anxiety in power planning was about demand: would consumption grow fast enough to justify new capacity, and how would an aging fleet keep pace? That question has inverted. Demand is no longer the uncertain variable—it is the one thing forecasters are confident about. The uncertainty now sits on the supply side: whether the workforce, the equipment, and the political and economic conditions needed to build and run generation can keep up with a demand curve that is accelerating for the first time in a generation. The International Energy Agency (IEA) put a number on the demand side in its Electricity 2026 report, projecting that global electricity demand will grow by an average of 3.6% per year through 2030, roughly 50% faster than the average over the previous decade, driven by industrial electrification, electric vehicles, air conditioning, and data centers. For the first time in three decades outside of a crisis period, electricity demand has begun to grow faster than the global economy itself. The demand is coming. The open question is deliverability. That framing—supply-side constraints as the binding risk—runs through recent research from Verdantix, a UK-based **** yst firm whose Industrial Dislocation Index scores nine major economies on how far their operating conditions have diverged from their own 30-year norms. For power generation specifically, Verdantix identifies four factors that carry disproportionate weight: politics, geo-economic friction, energy prices, and production inputs.
The clearest signal in the Verdantix data for a power audience is the energy sub-index, which scores each country on how far its energy position has moved from its own historical baseline. The spread is wide. The U.S. sits at the resilient end, with the lowest energy-dislocation score in the study at 1.83, a reflection of its position as a net exporter of natural gas, crude, and coal, with electricity and fuel costs below the global average. At the other end is the UK, at 7.33, the highest in the study—a measure of how sharply its energy position has diverged from what UK industry was historically built around. Germany (5.67) and France (5.50) sit high as well; **** an (4.50), India (3.50), China (3.17), Saudi Arabia (3.00), and Canada (2.67) fall in between. What that gap looks like on the ground varies by market, and Verdantix's country profiles fill it in. The UK's high score traces to underinvestment in nuclear, the grid-modernization costs of shifting to decentralized renewables, and windfall taxes on oil and gas—a combination severe enough that Verdantix notes chemical producers citing UK energy costs as a reason to pull back operations. France is Europe's largest net electricity exporter thanks to its nuclear fleet, but that same concentration is a vulnerability: recent questions about the quality of French reactor maintenance, Verdantix observes, show how quickly a strength can turn into a present-day problem. ****

Roma recently welcomed its tenth Greek player: defender Konstantinos Koulierakis. Will he unleash his inner Manolas, or are we in for another Greek Tragedy like Tsimikas? Let's take a look at his predecessors in the Eternal City.
Ah, Greece. Sun, sea, hundreds of islands, friendly people, sirtaki, great olive oil, ouzo, pita, lamb dishes. I'm not gonna lie, Greece is my second favorite country in Europe, after, of course, Italy. So many uncharted territories, so many jewels scattered across the Mediterranean Sea, waiting to be explored.
Anyway, let's talk football. Greece has generated some excellent players over the years. Take their Euro 2004 squad: Charisteas, Zagorakis, Nikopolidis, Basinas, Seitaridis, Papadopoulos. They weren't superstars, but they were reliable and skilled players. The team was compact, resilient, and tough, winning against Portugal and France and drawing with Spain in 2004.
More recently, Greece has produced well-known names, including Odysseas Vlachodimos, Konstantinos Mavropanos, Anastasios Douvikas, and Vangelis Pavlidis, as well as promising young talents such as Christos Mandas, Christos Tzolis, and Konstantinos Karetsas.
And there is also Konstantinos Koulierakis: a tall, athletic center-back who just joined Roma from Wolfsburg and has already been capped 22 times by the Greek National Team.
