Tesla (TSLA) and **** eX (SPCX) stock fell on Wednesday after Democrats took control of both houses of Congress in a "Blue Wave" that flipped Texas, home to both companies, with potential implications for CEO Elon Musk.
Musk spent $224 million backing Texas Republicans, including $158 million in September alone, per The New York Times, part of at least $446 million he gave to Republican candidates and groups before the vote. Democrat Gina Hinojosa unseated Gov. Greg Abbott to become the first Democratic governor of Texas since 1990, and Democrat James Talarico beat Republican Ken Paxton for the Senate seat.
Tesla and **** eX both dropped by over 2% despite the broad market rally, which includes Big Tech.
"Both of these stocks have major headline risk if we get a blue sweep," Vikram Rai of FirstNew York told Bloomberg ahead of the election.

WASHINGTON (AP) — President Donald Trump gave extended comments Wednesday, not about the Republican Party's midterm election wipeout but instead justifying his building a sprawling White House ballroom.
Trump invited reporters into a cavernous construction site and talked about the building project for nearly 20 minutes without mention sweeping Republican defeats around the country the night before.
"This has been a structure the likes of which has never been seen anywhere," Trump said before watching crews erect what he said would be the project's last beam and even signing what was being built.
The president had no public events on his schedule originally, but called reporters together at the last minute. He also briefly took questions, insisting, "If I were on the ballot I would have won."
He said a series of rallies he held leading up the election featured a lot of love from his supporters that "we weren't able to transfer love to the candidates."

President Donald Trump spent two months urging Americans to pretend he was on the ballot. On Tuesday, they did just that.
Voters delivered a stunning rebuke to Trump's party that rivaled anything Republicans had suffered in 50 years, defeats on ruby-red turf that Trump won handily just two years ago, where he has dominated politics for nearly a decade and against candidates he had in some cases handpicked.

Not only did Democrats flip Senate and governor seats in red states, but at times by eye-popping margins.
"The message is very clear and very simple here. It was a complete repudiation of the party as defined by Donald Trump," said Mike Murphy, a Los Angeles-based Republican consultant who worked for candidates in the pre-Trump GOP, including Jeb Bush and John McCain.

The results of the 2026 midterm elections have delivered a series of historic wins, with candidates across the country breaking barriers — and glass ceilings — at the ballot box. The results come amid a sweeping Democratic victory in a battle for control of Congress, with both chambers shifting from Republican to Democratic majorities starting in January.
Among the headline-making victories are the nation's first Black woman governor, the first Native American woman governor, the first Muslim U.S. senator and the first openly gay man elected to the Senate.
Here's a closer look at the historic wins of the 2026 midterms.

WASHINGTON (AP) — President Donald Trump says Georgia GOP Senate candidate Mike Collins can call him whenever he wants to ask for help for his state. But if Georgia reelects Democratic Sen. Jon Ossoff, Trump says it could be another story.
"There's a big difference between that and Pee-wee Herman calling," Trump said last week in Perry, Georgia, using his derisive nickname for Ossoff. The president acted out a hypothetical scenario at his rally where Ossoff called to ask for money for his state, with Trump responding, "I don't give a **** what he wants."
It's been a recurring theme at Trump's rallies this month: From North Carolina to Ohio to Kansas, the president has dangled the idea that his administration would be far less likely to help states where Democrats win in the upcoming midterm elections.
Trump has sandwiched the threats into rallies where he has announced goodies like new semiconductor investments, a submarine repair center and fewer limits on a certain type of diesel, underscoring to the audience the types of tangibles an all-Republican Washington could continue to deliver for voters should his party remain in power after November.
But the president's utterances — part of a larger political strategy that's anchored on making the midterms about himself and activating conservative voters — have also injected politics into processes that have traditionally remained apolitical, such as doling out disaster aid and providing benefits for veterans.

Megan Rapinoe has never been shy about speaking up for transgender athletes, even as the issue has become one of the most heated debates in sports. And in a recent interview, the United States Women's National Team legend made it clear that her stance hasn't changed.
In a recent podcast, Rapinoe pushed back on the idea that trans women threaten fairness in women's sports, arguing that sports have never been fair in the first place and claiming that fairness shouldn't matter more than people's human rights.
The debate over transgender athletes in women's sports has only intensified over the past couple of years, with Republicans making it a central political issue and many states passing laws that ban trans girls and women from competing in girls' and women's sports.
The issue has spilled into the sports world, too. Indiana Fever guard Sophie Cunningham sparked a nationwide conversation this year when she voiced her opposition to trans women competing in women's sports.
Even some Democrats have distanced themselves from the issue. Texas Senate candidate James Talarico, for example, has said that he opposes trans athletes playing in girls' sports "if it endangers safety or fairness."

Anthony Rendon enters free agency as nightmare Angels contract finally ends appeared first on ClutchPoints. Add ClutchPoints as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
The Los Angeles Angels decided to move on from manager Kurt Suzuki last week after just one season in charge. Now, the Angels can finally move on from Anthony Rendon after seven disastrous years with the team.
Rendon officially entered free agency on Thursday as his seven-year, $245 million contract is finally off the Angels' books.
The Angels signed Rendon to the massive deal after he helped the Washington Nationals win the 2019 World Series. That was the biggest deal the Angels had ever given to a player in free agency. In his seven seasons in Washington, Rendon was an MVP candidate-caliber player who averaged over 20 home runs and 85 RBIs over a six-year span.

Thursday night's American Conference matchup between Florida Atlantic and North Texas featured a strong candidate for fumble of the year.
Following a 28-yard pass from Tayven Jackson to Dalton Carnes, the Mean Green had an opportunity to break a 24-24 tie before the half with a field goal or perhaps even a touchdown with 27 seconds remaining in the second quarter.
On the next play, Jackson flipped a short pass to Jahiem White out of the backfield. White made a dash toward the first-down marker, then attempted a hurdle toward the line to gain.
However, FAU defensive back Travis Jackson hit White as he was in the air, causing the ball to pop loose. White did not get out of bounds before losing the ball and the carom went back onto the field, recovered by defensive lineman Tycoolhill Luman.
FAU took over at its 34-yard line with 11 seconds left before halftime. That didn't give the Owls much time to do anything else but attempt three short passes before ending the half on a deep throw that fell incomplete.

It was, for a while, considered one of those colorful quirks that crop up in the course of an election: the fact that not one but two candidates named Dan Sullivan will appear on the Nov. 3 ballot for U.S. senator from Alaska.
One Dan Sullivan — Dan S. Sullivan — is the state's incumbent Republican senator. He is trying to fend off a fierce challenge from former Democratic Rep. Mary Peltola and secure a third term. The other Dan Sullivan — Dan J. Sullivan — is a retired teacher from a tiny fishing village along the Alaska Panhandle. He has never previously campaigned for public office, and he switched his registration from "unaffiliated" to "Republican" just before the deadline to run. (He has since switched back to unaffiliated.)
But now the situation seems to be getting more serious. At President Trump's direction, the Justice Department last week sued in federal court to block certification of the election if Sen. Dan S. Sullivan loses, alleging that retired teacher Dan J. Sullivan is a Democratic plant whose purpose is to siphon away votes.
Then, on Wednesday, the New York Times published an extensive investigation that appears to substantiate that allegation, calling it "Democrats' secret effort to stack Alaska's ballot."
"The Times has found, based on interviews and text messages, along with documents prepared for a potential lawsuit against the campaign, that not only did Ms. Peltola's team work with people trying to recruit Mr. Sullivan to run for Senate, but the effort was much broader," the paper wrote. "The group worked to coax other would-be spoilers into the race, to dilute the incumbent's support and help catapult the Democrat to victory."

Former Rep. Mary Peltola is rescheduling several upcoming campaign events after she and her family sustained "minor" injuries in a car crash, her campaign announced Sunday.
"Mary and her family sustained minor injuries but are in good spirits. Unfortunately, per the advice of medical professionals, Mary's upcoming events in Fairbanks and Bethel will be rescheduled for later in the week as she takes time to recover," Peltola campaign manager Cheryl Bruce said in a statement.
"Mary is disappointed that the accident is delaying the start of her Alaska Always Tour, and she is eager to get back on the campaign trail to speak directly with Alaskans about her plan to take on the rigged system and lower costs for working families," Bruce added.
Peltola was en route to the Alaska Federation of Natives' annual banquet Saturday when a vehicle transporting the candidate and her family was struck by another driver, according to the campaign. A spokesperson for the campaign said they had no reason to believe the accident had been politically motivated.
The police department in Anchorage confirmed Sunday that a collision involving three vehicles occurred on evening and those involved sustained "non-life threatening injuries."

Data centers have emerged as a national issue during this midterm election cycle, and candidates for the House and Senate have seized on it in their campaigns.
But state and local officials actually have more sway over data center construction and energy infrastructure, so the winners of lower-profile races may hold the economy's future in their hands.
Hyperscalers have been spending hundreds of billions of dollars a year, with forecasts for 2027 topping $1 trillion. JPMorgan has estimated AI-related investment was responsible for about one-fifth of GDP growth over the past year. ******* ysts at ING believe AI will account for a third of growth in 2026.
With Election Day just over a week away and early voting already in full swing in many states, expectations for big Democratic gains could weigh on the stock market, which has sold off in recent days on fears the AI boom will go bust.
If there is a further stock slump, it will be because a "blue wave" at the state and local levels will usher in lawmakers opposed to data centers, Thierry Wizman, global FX and rates strategist at Macquarie, said in a note on Monday.

PORT HURON, Mich. (AP) — President Donald Trump intensified his anti-Muslim rhetoric against Michigan Senate candidate Abdul El-Sayed on Sunday, portraying him as a threat to national security and questioning his loyalty to the United States in remarks that drew a sharp rebuke from a former top Arab American ally.
Trump called El-Sayed, a former Detroit health official, a "jihadist" who was "on the side of the terrorists" and would "have to go through a metal detector before he's allowed to go into the Senate." He also repeatedly invoked the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks, drawing a comparison between stopping El-Sayed from entering the Senate chamber and the passengers who fought back against the hijackers aboard United Flight 93.
El-Sayed, who would become the nation's first Muslim senator if elected, has called attacks on his loyalty to the country "shameful" and repeatedly denied any ties to extremist groups. The Republican president's remarks were condemned by Bishara Bahbah, a founder of Arab Americans for Trump, the group that helped lead the president's outreach to Arab American voters in 2024.
"The president's statements are out of line," he said in a phone interview. "They are crossing a red line. They are racist."
With Republicans on the defensive over inflation, soaring fuel prices and the Iran war, the president has been trying to generate turnout by claiming that El-Sayed and other Democrats are existential threats to America, instead of electoral rivals. Michigan's Senate race between El-Sayed and Republican Mike Rogers is among a handful of contests that could determine control of the chamber.

The Stein Line has learned, however, that Cissé is a real candidate to be claimed off waived in the event he is let go. Chicago, sources say, has interest in the high-energy big man. I'm told Atlanta also has interest even though the Hawks don't currently have an open standard spot. If Cissé were to be waived Monday and then clear waivers Wednesday, I'm also told that the 76ers and Lakers would have strong interest in signing him to a two-way deal even though neither team currently has a two-way opening.

It was everything the Houston Cougars envisioned when they joined the Big 12.
A ranked matchup, the program's first at TDECU Stadium since 2015. A sellout crowd of 42,544. And most importantly, a statement victory to catapult the Cougars further into the national conversation.
In front of the fourth-largest crowd in TDECU Stadium history, No. 20 Houston outlasted No. 18 Oklahoma State in an offensive shootout, earning its fourth consecutive victory and securing bowl eligibility with a 35-32 win.
"I really felt like we had a homefield advantage," Houston head coach Willie Fritz said. "They were loud and the student section I thought was outstanding. I appreciate everybody coming out and hopefully you saw what UH football is all about and also the experience here."
Houston never trailed after the first quarter, largely thanks to quarterback Conner Weigman. The rising Heisman candidate delivered arguably his finest performance in his five years of college football, bouncing back from an interception on the opening drive to throw for career-highs of 343 yards and five touchdowns. He completed 72.7 percent of attempts while consistently solving every puzzle the Oklahoma State defense threw at him.

Hansi Flick could turn to Barcelona's reserve team for defensive reinforcements ahead of their Champions League clash against PSG.
With Andreas Christensen already sidelined through injury, the German manager suffered another blow when both Eric Garcia and Jules Kounde picked up problems against Real Betis.
According to journalist Sergi Capdevila, young centre-back Alex Campos is emerging as the leading candidate to make the trip to Paris.
Barcelona currently have only five first-team defenders available, forcing Flick to consider alternatives from Barça Atletic.

Barcelona look to continue their history-making perfect start to the season and make it three wins out of three in the Champions League as the La Liga leaders travel to France for a massive league phase clash against two-time defending champions Paris Saint-Germain.
Here's how we think Hansi Flick will line up his troops for Tuesday's battle:
Flick is dealing with a defensive injury crisis as Eric Garcia, Jules Kounde and Andreas Christensen have all been ruled out through injury.
Gerard Martín was also a doubt after a knock against Real Betis at the weekend, but he should be good to go as Pau Cubarsí's center-back partner in this one. Xavi Espart will likely move to right-back with Eric and Kounde out, and João Cancelo is expected to start ahead of Alejandro Balde at left-back.
Rodri was a candidate to start at center-back with all the injuries in defense but Martín's presence will allow the Spain captain to remain in his best position, with Fermín López and Pedri expected to round out the midfield trio for this one.

Harry Kane has received another ringing endorsement in his bid for the Ballon d'Or, with England international Morgan Rogers arguing that the Bayern Munich striker has done more than enough to claim football's most prestigious individual honor.
Rogers believes Kane's accomplishments have pushed the boundaries of what could reasonably have been expected from him, pointing to his remarkable combination of club and international success.
"Harry Kane should win the Ballon d'Or. He defied what people can imagine that he could do. Treble, and hattricks in finals, Goals in the World Cup, goals for Bayern. What more can he do? That has to be rewarded," Rogers told Hayters TV (as captured by iMiaSanMia).
It is difficult to argue with the basic premise. Kane has continued to produce at an extraordinary level for Bayern while also delivering on the biggest stages for England. His ability to combine ridiculous scoring numbers with major trophies has strengthened his case considerably.
The Ballon d'Or debate will inevitably include several other elite candidates, but Rogers believes Kane's résumé speaks for itself.

Meghan Markle is reportedly facing fresh tensions with her US team after a promotional image for her As Ever brand drew criticism over its cooking setup. The reported fallout comes as the ******* ss of Sussex seeks to hire senior British staff. However, an insider claims her history of staff turnover could make it harder for her to attract experienced candidates.
According to sources cited by Naughty But Nice, Meghan Markle has grown frustrated with her US team after critics questioned an As Ever promotional cooking photo. The image appeared to show a gas stove that was switched off, leading critics to question the cooking setup. However, the photo alone does not confirm whether Meghan was actually cooking or whether she used the stove at another time.
An insider claimed Meghan expected her team to catch potential problems before the image reached the public. "She exploded," the source said. "It was, 'How did ******* ody catch this?' Meghan expects her team to protect her from exactly this kind of ridicule." However, her reaction may be making it harder for her to hire new staff. "She blames the American team when things go wrong, while prospective British employees are watching," the source explains. "Nobody wants to become the next person blamed — or the next departure that makes headlines."
Meghan is reportedly looking to strengthen her team in the UK, including by hiring an executive ******* istant. However, the insider claims that attracting experienced British candidates has become difficult because of the attention surrounding staff departures over the years. The source argued that a prestigious ******* le and the opportunity to work closely with Meghan may not be enough to convince top candidates to accept a role.
"Meghan can offer a glamorous ******* le, but the best people aren't biting," the insider told Naughty But Nice. "Her reputation gets there before the job offer does." The source added that prospective employees may wonder whether they would have a different experience from previous staff members. "People see the turnover and think, 'Why would it be different for me?'" the insider claimed.

A newly surfaced text message attributed to Kimberly Guilfoyle appears to reveal what she really thinks of Bettina Trump. Guilfoyle and Donald Trump Jr. ended their engagement in 2024. Bettina, 39, is now his wife.
"I was having a [expletive] great time Saturday and we had a [expletive] amazing time when we got home Saturday night that's a nonsense," Guilfoyle allegedly texted Eric Deters, a former Kentucky congressional candidate, according to a Thursday, October 8 report in The Daily Beast. "That's his ex-wife's friend. It's all lies, but she's a cloud chasing horror that plays the story in the daily mail to get attention."
Deters confirmed to the outlet that the message was about Bettina.
The Daily Beast cautioned that the texts may contain typos. "Cloud chasing" could mean "clout chasing," and "plays the story" could mean "placed the story." The outlet also noted that "his ex-wife's friend" may refer to Vanessa Trump, Don Jr.'s former wife.
The message does not say which Daily Mail story Guilfoyle, 57, meant. But the publication reported on September 15, 2024, that Don Jr., 48, had been seen kissing Bettina at a brunch on August 17 of that same year. At that point, the public still believed he and Guilfoyle, now the U.S. ambassador to Greece, were engaged. The two have never publicly said when they actually split.

As the Senate map pushes into deep-red states, Democrats worry their money won’t reach far enough to make some of them legitimate battlegrounds.

SAN ANTONIO (AP) — President Donald Trump, facing protesters and a poor political climate, fought to rally Texas voters behind Senate candidate Ken Paxton on Wednesday night in a bid to stave off sweeping Democratic victories in the nation's most populous red state.
But Trump's remarks were not focused solely on Paxton.
Speaking to a packed Freeman Coliseum, Trump also pledged to award retired baseball star Roger Clemens the Presidential Medal of Freedom, restated his support for the death penalty for drug dealers and clarified recent comments in which he talked about the possibility of Iran bombing American cities as part of a recurring riff about how high fuel costs are "a small price to pay" for the war.
"You want to see problems? Let them hit San Diego, let them hit Los Angeles," Trump said. "We're not going to let that happen. We protect our cities. We protect our country."
The president's message was interrupted repeatedly by protesters, including by one who appeared to be close to the stage. In all, at least a dozen demonstrators interrupted the president. Some were led away by police.

The U.S. Senate candidates in Texas could hardly be more different: James Talarico, a former seminarian turned Democratic state lawmaker who speaks in calm cadences about love and empathy, and Ken Paxton, the pugnacious Republican state attorney general who speaks about a refusal to compromise.
They share an enemy, though. They dislike social media's effects on children's mental health. Talarico, who did not respond to a request for comment, has endorsed a social media ban for kids under 16, while denouncing "predatory algorithms that divide us on an hourly, daily basis." As a legislator, he co-authored a bill targeting explicit deepfakes — digital imitations of individuals that are often made or manipulated by artificial intelligence and used for harassment on social media.
Paxton has been suing Big Tech, alleging the companies hook youth on their apps or don't restrict sensitive videos from being viewed by kids. "When elected to the U.S. Senate, he will continue his proven record of advancing policies that protect children online, strengthen parental rights, and hold Big Tech accountable when it breaks the law," Paxton campaign spokesperson Madison Cercy said in a statement to KFF Health News.
Youth mental health is in decline. Even as researchers explore what's causing the problem, momentum is gathering among policymakers from both parties to crack down on social media companies. Several major companies are being sued, investigated, and, soon, potentially regulated. That they may be harming kids' mental health is a key reason.

Debra Messing is facing intense backlash over her decision to support Republican Bruce Blakeman in New York's gubernatorial race.
Messing, who has previously supported Democratic candidates including Joe Biden and Hillary Clinton, shared an Instagram statement Tuesday evening laying out her reasons for endorsing the Donald Trump-backed candidate.
"For years, my focus has been protecting choice and voting rights, passing the ERA, protecting the rights of the gay community, and keeping out children's schools safe from gun violence. I still stand by every one of those principles. That hasn't changed," Messing wrote. "What has changed is how I feel about the city and state I love dearly."
The Will & Grace star said that after voting for Governor Kathy Hochul four years ago, she had reflected on that decision ahead of the November election. "So I asked myself the question I'd encourage everyone to ask. Not: 'Which party am I supposed to vote for?' But: 'Who do I believe will actually make life better for the people I love and the place I live?'"
For Messing, that person is Blakeman. "I don't agree with him on everything, and I don't expect to," she wrote. "No candidate is perfect. But on the issues that are hurting New Yorkers right now, I believe he's the right choice. Yes, he's been endorsed by the President. That's not what my vote is about."
