Bitcoin (CRYPTO: $BTC) and other cryptocurrencies were down to end the trading week on Sept. 11 as the odds of an interest rate hike in the U.S. continued to rise. Futures markets now see a greater than 70% chance that the U.S. Federal Reserve raises interest rates by 25-basis points at its meeting on Sept. 16.
Markets ratcheted up their expectations for higher interest rates following a hot U.S. inflation report for August, and as crude oil hovers near $100 U.S. a barrel for the first time since May of this year. Higher interest rates are negative for risk **** ets such as crypto. As a result, Bitcoin was trading at $77,500 U.S. at week's end, down from a recent high of $82,000 U.S.
Other digital **** ets were also under pressure, with Ethereum's (CRYPTO: $ETH) price right around $2,500 U.S. Despite the pullback, crypto prices remain sharply higher than where they were a month ago, when Bitcoin was trading below $65,000 U.S. BTC peaked at an all-time high of $126,198.07 U.S. on Oct. 6 of last year.

A cryptocurrency ETF is an exchange-traded fund that gives investors exposure to cryptocurrency through a regular brokerage account with no crypto wallet, exchange, or private keys required. The most important type is the spot ETF, which holds the actual cryptocurrency (Bitcoin, Ether, etc.) in secure custody, so the fund's price tracks the real-time price of the coin. When you buy a share, you're getting direct exposure to the underlying **** et, wrapped in the familiar, regulated ETF structure. One technical note: U.S. spot crypto funds are structured as exchange-traded products — grantor trusts registered under the Securities Act of 1933 — rather than as 1940 Act ETFs, so they trade just like ETFs but do not carry all of the same investor protections.
This is a big deal because it removes the biggest barriers to crypto investing: custody risk, exchange hacks, and technical complexity. It also brings crypto into tax-advantaged accounts and lets investors hold it alongside their stocks and bonds in one place.
Spot Bitcoin ETFs launched in the U.S. in January 2024 and have become the fastest-growing ETF category ever. In 2026 they dominate the crypto ETF landscape.
IBIT (iShares Bitcoin Trust) was one of the first to market and is the runaway leader, with roughly $71 billion in **** ets — well over half of the entire spot Bitcoin ETF market. BlackRock's fund has become the default vehicle for institutional and retail Bitcoin exposure alike, prized for its deep liquidity and low cost. FBTC (Fidelity Wise Origin Bitcoin Fund) is second with about $18 billion, and GBTC (Grayscale Bitcoin Trust), the converted legacy fund, holds around $15 billion despite its higher fee. For most investors seeking Bitcoin exposure, IBIT and FBTC are the go-to, low-cost choices.
Spot Ethereum ETFs followed in July 2024 and form the second pillar of the crypto ETF world. ETHA (iShares Ethereum Trust) leads with roughly $11 billion in **** ets, followed by FETH (Fidelity Ethereum Fund) at about $2.3 billion. Ethereum offers a different investment thesis than Bitcoin as it's the backbone of decentralized applications, smart contracts, and much of the tokenization trend. This means ether ETFs give investors exposure to a distinct part of the digital-asset ecosystem.

Ethereum ETFs posted $824.41 million in inflows during the week of August 24–28, their strongest five-day total on record, followed by another $218.40 million the subsequent week.
The $24.29 million outflow on September 8 was concentrated in Grayscale's funds, while Fidelity's FETH attracted $9.89 million and BlackRock's ETHA recorded no outflow.
The latest outflow looks more like a pause than a reversal, but sustained withdrawals from ETHA or FETH, combined with a deeper ETH price decline, would be a stronger warning sign.

Bitmine Immersion Technologies (NYSE: $BMNR) added another 28,086 Ether (CRYPTO: $ETH) to its holdings last week, bringing the company closer to its goal of controlling 5% of Ethereum's total supply.
The purchase, worth about $69.4 million at Tuesday's price of roughly $2,472 per ETH, lifted Bitmine's holdings to 5.93 million ETH, the company announced Tuesday. That represents about 4.9% of Ethereum's 122 million circulating supply, leaving the company around 171,000 ETH short of its target.
Bitmine has purchased Ether every week since launching its Ethereum treasury strategy in June 2025. The latest acquisition was smaller than the 53,501 ETH bought the previous week. Still, maintaining this pace would put the company within reach of its 5% goal in less than two months.

Bitcoin (CRYPTO:BTC) rose 5.5% to $81,491.82, Ethereum (CRYPTO:ETH) rose 5.2% to $2,511.01, and Solana (CRYPTO:SOL) rose 5.9% to $105.30 as of early evening on Sept. 3. The total crypto market cap increased 4.7% to $2.82 trillion as crypto risk appetite returned.
Bitcoin retook the $81,000 mark for the first time since May as cryptocurrency markets benefited from concerns about rising bond yields and lower odds of a Federal Reserve rate hike. Fed Governor Christopher Waller said he would support leaving rates unchanged as long as there's not a dramatic shift in inflation figures.
Spot Bitcoin ETFs inflows improved, with around $101.1 million in net inflows yesterday, led by the iShares Bitcoin Trust ETF (IBIT). Ethereum ETFs broke a 12-day winning streak of inflows yesterday, but today's data may show institutional funds returning.
Bitcoin has gained almost 27% in the past month as confidence returns to the market -- the crypto fear and greed index, which measures investors' mood, has moved from extreme fear a month ago to greed today. The lead crypto isn't close to retaking its all-time high just yet, but the rapid recovery is a reminder to long-term investors that crypto winters do pass and that sentiment can quickly swing from gloom to optimism.
That said, cryptocurrency prices remain susceptible to macro factors in the near term. The recent rally was helped by bond market turmoil and concerns about the value of the U.S. dollar, but inflation, interest rates, and the tensions in the Middle East could all weigh on investor confidence. Particularly as economists still think there's a 50.5% chance of a rate hike and higher rates tend to pressure riskier ***** ets like crypto.

The crypto market—including Bitcoin and altcoins like XRP, Ethereum, and BNB—is riding a bullish wave of momentum in the U.S. stock market, seemingly triggered by fresh comments from the Federal Reserve, and sending short sellers to goblintown.
Bitcoin punched back above $80,000 on Thursday, trading near $80,270 and up close to 3% over the past 24 hours. Ethereum is closing in on $2,500, up 2.2% today, while XRP is up a whopping 6% in the last 24 hours. The spike has accounted for at least $327 million in liquidated short positions in the last hour alone, and more than $415 million in the past 24 hours.
The catalyst appears to be comments from Fed Governor Christopher Waller, who, in prepared remarks at a Reuters NEXT Newsmaker interview, said he'd be "inclined to support" holding the Fed's benchmark interest rate at its current level if upcoming inflation data keeps improving.
Traders took the hint. The odds of a rate hike at the Fed's September 15-16 meeting fell to 50.4%, down from 63.2% a day earlier, according to the CME FedWatch tool, a market gauge that estimates the odds of Fed moves from futures prices. The 10-year Treasury yield, a benchmark for borrowing costs economy-wide that had touched its highest level since November 2023 a day earlier, dropped to around 4.73%.
It's a sharp reversal from a week ago. Fed Chair Kevin Warsh's hawkish Jackson Hole keynote had knocked Bitcoin down to $76,877 and pushed hike odds toward 56%. Thursday's bounce puts Bitcoin back at a level it's tested—and failed to hold—several times this year.

Bitcoin and ethereum prices are tumbling this morning in the wake of another round of U.S. airstrikes against Iranian targets, escalating the violent war between the two countries. Iran retaliated to the latest strikes by attacking U.S. military bases with rockets and drones.
The renewed fighting has raised oil prices (BZ=F) again, keeping inflation concerns high ahead of a critical Federal Reserve meeting later this month. This latest pressure on energy prices is increasing the probability of a rate increase, likely pushing crypto prices even lower since cryptocurrencies do not pay interest.

In the commodities ****** et class in August 2026, Ethereum was up more than 30%, and Bitcoin, cocoa, and world sugar futures gained more than 20%. Silver, heating oil, crack spreads, corn, CBOT wheat, and cotton were up between 10% and 20%. ICE FCOJ was the only commodity to post a double-digit percentage decline. The DJIA, S&P 500, NASDAQ Composite, and Russell 2000 indices were mostly higher. The long bond futures edged higher. The September dollar index futures fell by 0.40%. The long bond futures rose by 0.40%. A lower dollar index and slightly lower interest rates were a bullish signal for commodity prices, and most raw material futures posted gains. Long-term interest rates edged lower, even though the Fed left the Fed Funds Rate unchanged at the most recent FOMC meeting.
The lack of a settlement between Iran and the United States, along with a tightening of the economic noose around Iran, drove energy prices higher. At the end of August, the hostilities were escalating as the U.S. attempt to use economic weapons has caused backlash from Iran. Crude oil, oil products, crack spreads, natural gas, Chicago ethanol swaps, and Rotterdam coal posted gains in August.

Tom Lee said Ethereum could reach $6,000 if Bitcoin climbs to $150,000 and the ETH/BTC ratio rises to 0.04.
The BitMine chairman believes the CLARITY Act will accelerate institutional adoption.
Lee identified demand from Asia and institutional performance-chasing as additional catalysts for ETH.
Ethereum could climb to $6,000 under what Tom Lee says is a "conservative" market scenario, with the BitMine chairman arguing that the token remains significantly undervalued despite its recent rebound.

Cardano (ADA) continues to underperform its peers this year, as on-chain metrics continue to indicate that this former crypto darling meets all the criteria of a "zombie chain."
The native token of this blockchain has booked a 40% loss in 2026, dramatically lagging its former peers like Ethereum (ETH) and Solana (SOL), both of which have managed to trim their yearly losses 17% as a result of the latest rally.
Market sentiment has improved in the past couple of weeks, as indicated by the Crypto Fear and Greed Index. This key gauge has jumped from a recent Neutral reading of 36 to 75 at the time of writing, indicating that investors are now in "Greed" mode.
Despite this shift in sentiment, ADA is not among the token that has managed to break above its 200-day exponential moving average (EMA), primarily as investors seem to be focusing on more mature projects that have demonstrated their real-world use cases.
This explains the huge performance gap between ADA and its peers. We can list a couple of red flags that may justify why market participants are shunning this token.

Crypto, gold, and silver prices are all following a similar pattern this morning: stronger openings than yesterday are giving way as mounting expectations that the Fed will raise rates later this month weigh on prices.
According to the CME Group's FedWatch tool, there's currently a 66.4% chance the Fed raises rates by 25 basis points later this month, and a 33.6% expectation that it will leave rates unchanged. Just last week, the opposite was true: economists estimated a 60.4% chance the Fed would leave rates unchanged and a 39.6% chance rates would rise.

Ethereum (ETH) has jumped by 34% in the past 30 days, outpacing all other tokens in the top 5 during this period, after a couple of macro tailwinds.
The latest speech from the Chairman of the Federal Reserve, Kevin Warsh, during the Jackson Hole summit managed to pause the crypto rally but only temporarily, as most tokens have recovered during the weekend.
Trading volumes in the past 24 hours jumped by 39%, currently sitting at nearly $9 billion. This figure accounts for nearly 3% of the **** et's circulating market cap, indicating that the buying interest has subsided a bit.
Market sentiment improved dramatically in the past couple of weeks after the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) proposed a new set of rules for the crypto industry that front-run Congress's expected approval of the Clarity Act.
The Crypto Fear and Greed Index has jumped to 78, indicating that investors are in "Greed" mode. This is the highest reading since December 2024, back when the ETH was rallying to $4,000.

Bitmine Immersion Technologies (NYSE: BMNR) is a digital ***** et treasury (DAT) company led by chairman Tom Lee, and it's been buying Ethereum (CRYPTO: ETH) weekly for 14 months. On Aug. 17 alone, it bought 9,926 ETH worth around $19 million, only to buy another 32,447 ETH just six days later. The coin's price is up by 28% in the 30 days ending on Aug. 27 alone, a stunning reversal after months of weakness.
But does any of this mean investors should load up on Ethereum like Tom Lee is?

XRP is leading a broader pullback in the crypto market on August 26, sliding roughly 6.6% over 24 hours to trade near $1.37, the worst performance among the top 10 cryptocurrencies.
The decline follows one of the token's strongest weekly rallies in recent memory, and traders are now watching whether the pain has only just begun.
XRP rocketed from a cycle low of $0.9877 on August 17 to a three-month high of $1.69 by August 22, a nearly 70% gain that outpaced Bitcoin's 23.6% and Ethereum's 28.1% over the same stretch.
That speed left momentum indicators deeply overbought, with the daily RSI reaching 88, a level last seen during July 2025's all-time high near $3.65.
Crypto ****** yst ChartNerdTA described the surge as a genuine breakout rather than noise, driven by a liquidity trap for short sellers and positive funding rates. The subsequent unwind has since produced an 18% decline from the $1.70 peak, pulling the price into the $1.40-$1.38 range.

Bitcoin will overtake gold, and it could happen as soon as the next bull run, Binance founder Changpeng Zhao told a conference audience in Hong Kong on Thursday.
"I think Bitcoin will, for sure, become more important than gold," Zhao said during a session at Bitcoin Asia billed as "The Bitcoin Century," when asked whether the **** et would outrank bullion for sovereign holders.
The obstacle is institutional rather than technical, he argued. Large countries already have mechanisms for valuing gold and holding it, and replacing that apparatus takes years. For those countries to "shift into Bitcoin" will take time, but it will happen, he said, noting that the market value gap between gold and BTC has narrowed to roughly tenfold.
"I think Bitcoin will overtake gold pretty soon," he said, adding that, "In the next bull run, it could happen." Bitcoin, he added, is "just a much better **** et than gold," joking that long-time Bitcoin critic Peter Schiff would disagree.
Zhao told the audience he routinely advises governments to build a crypto reserve, and that his recommendation for how is "pretty simple and it's a little bit self-serving." Strip out stablecoins, take the five largest cryptocurrencies that remain, and weight them by market capitalization. That yields roughly 50% Bitcoin, 10% to 20% Ethereum, and a slice for BNB, the token of the exchange he founded.

Bitcoin and ethereum opened at their highest levels in some time. Even though today's opening prices for both cryptocurrencies are down a bit from the high levels they hit this week, it's the highest opening figure for bitcoin since early June, and the highest opening for ethereum since August 22. But other than August 22, it's the highest opening ethereum price we've observed since January 31.
Despite the slight pullback from the highs earlier in the week, Yahoo Finance's Scott Melker, host of The Daily Wolf, predicted bitcoin prices would move down and says it's by no means time to worry. He also explains why bitcoin prices fell here.

Grayscale's Zcash Exchange Traded Fund, better known as an ETF, began trading Tuesday on NYSE Arca, listing a nine-year-old investment product months after developers disclosed and patched a critical vulnerability in the privacy coin's shielded transaction system.
Trading under the ticker ZCSH, the world's first exchange-traded product offering spot Zcash exposure allows investors to track the price of ZEC through brokerage accounts without having to buy or store the token themselves.
"Grayscale has a long history of identifying emerging technologies and investment themes early, and our nine-year history operating this fund is the clearest signal of demand," Grayscale Head of Index Steve Vanourny told Decrypt.
ZCSH began as the Grayscale Zcash Trust in October 2017. Grayscale filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission in November to convert the trust into an exchange-traded fund. As an exchange-traded product, shareholders do not own ZEC directly but instead own shares intended to track the value of the fund's ZEC holdings.
Vanourny said Zcash's maturity, privacy features and investor demand for ****** ets beyond Bitcoin and Ethereum made this the right time to list the nine-year-old fund.

Ethereum's native token, Ether (ETH), has jumped more than 30% from its August lows near $1,800, briefly climbing above $2,500 as short liquidations and renewed buying accelerated its recovery.
But the rally is now running into major technical resistance, raising the risk of a short-term correction toward $2,000.
Ethereum's three-day chart shows ETH testing its 200-period exponential moving average (200-period EMA, blue) near $2,534.
The level has historically acted as an important long-term trend indicator. ETH is also testing a rising resistance trendline connecting its previous 2026 highs, creating an additional hurdle around the same price area.
Meanwhile, Ethereum's three-day relative strength index (RSI) has climbed to around 74.
