UPS disclosed Monday that it is investing more than $2 billion across its international, healthcare, and supply chain solutions businesses, revealing the total figure for the first time. The investments began in 2024 and are set to continue through 2028, the company said.

Among the initiatives are a new hub in the Philippines slated for this year, a facility in Ontario, Canada, due to open in 2027, and an air hub at Hong Kong International Airport scheduled for 2028. UPS has also opened a technology-enabled logistics center in Taiwan and an Amsterdam facility that integrates freight forwarding, customs brokerage, and cold-chain capabilities under one roof. The Taiwan facility has used automation and robotics to cut total supply chain time by one day, Szwast said. That is significant for a number of reasons.
It means if Crystal Palace are to recoup any money in transfer fees for the striker before he is eligible to sign a Bosman pre-contract with an overseas club in January, then this window provides their last opportunity to do so.
That fact will not be lost on those at Selhurst Park and there is a view from some at the club that they should look to sever ties in the coming days.
But with Mateta less than 12 months away from a free transfer, which would most probably be more financially lucrative for him than leaving for a fee this month, it would be understandable if the 29-year-old was not rushing out of the exit door.

He's the new man in charge, but he has an old problem to solve. How to get his team to finish off the many chances they create. They were on top early on. Jean-Philippe Mateta, Eddie Nketiah and Daniel Munoz all had more than decent chances that could have easily found the net. But once Everton exerted control then the chances disappeared.
The second half saw Palace offer very little threat and Sage said "we gave up a little". They were missing the quality of their top scorer last season, Ismaila Sarr, who didn't travel amid the links with a move to Galatasaray. VivoPower PLC (NASDAQ:VIVO, FRA:51J) has fully retired the $28.8 million in shareholder debt it owed to AWN Holdings, eliminating the last of its principal obligation to the entity and sharpening its credit profile ahead of a planned AI data center buildout in Norway, according to a new ****** yst note from ****** le Capital Markets.
Of the total, $16.5 million was converted under the company's second PIPE offering, while the remaining $12.3 million was repaid in cash.

MANILA, Philippines (AP) — A high school student carrying two firearms shot to death a fellow student before killing himself Tuesday in a high school in a university campus in the southern Philippines where hundreds of students were evacuated to safety, officials said.
Zamboanga city Mayor Khymer Adan Olaso said the suspect apparently wore a body camera to livestream the attack at the high school on the Ateneo de Zamboanga university campus in his city. Two other people were injured, he said.
The suspect initially fired at a teacher but it was not clear if the teacher was hit. He then shot a fellow student, who died, before shooting himself, Olaso told DZBB radio network.
Hundreds of students were evacuated to safety after the gunshots rang out in the high school building, which is in a secured campus, separate from a larger campus of the Catholic university, where its colleges and professional schools are located in the port city of Zamboanga.
A few hours after the shooting, police said the situation was under control. They asked parents and guardians of students to remain calm and follow the high school's advice and arrangements to pick up their children.

ATHENS - Athens High School may get to play a football season after all.
After the news came out last week that Athens would have to cancel its varsity football season due to lack of participation, it was announced on Monday, Aug. 17 that the school has plans to be involved in a co-op with St. Philip High School.
The Athens High School Board of Education approved the decision to join St. Philip in a co-op on Monday. The joining of the two teams to play in the 8-player division now awaits approval by the MHSAA, which is expected on Tuesday, Aug. 18.

Princess Eugenie has named her baby daughter Adelaide Elizabeth Annina Brooksbank.
Announcing the news on Instagram, she shared that it was chosen to reflect English and Portuguese history, "Two places we love and call home."
The Princess and her husband, Jack Brooksbank, moved to Portugal in May 2022, prompted by a job opportunity for Brooksbank.

A venue has accepted that it discriminated against a Jewish comedian when it cancelled his show at last year's Edinburgh Festival Fringe.
Stand-up comic Philip Simon had been due to perform a solo show called "Shall I Compere Thee In A Funny Way" at the Banshee Labyrinth, on the city's Niddry Street.
However, the venue pulled his act over what it said were his views on the conflict in Gaza.
In a statement given at the time to industry magazine Chortle, the venue said Simon had expressed views on social media and elsewhere that it said "align with the rhetoric and symbology of groups ***** ociated with humanitarian violations."
Responding to the decision on social media, the performer said he had been cancelled "just for being Jewish."

MANILA, Aug 15 (Reuters) - Philippine Defense Secretary Gilberto Teodoro rejected on Saturday China's accusation that he has "consistently attacked and smeared" Beijing, branding the remarks as a "classic squid tactic" aimed at avoiding the issues at hand.
Teodoro was responding to Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun, who on Friday said Teodoro had previously led efforts by Philippine authorities to apprehend Chinese citizens who, Beijing said, were legally working in the Philippines.
"This individual has consistently attacked and smeared China," Guo told reporters, referring to Teodoro. "What he is damaging is not only China-Philippines bilateral relations, but also the interests of the Philippine state and its people."
Teodoro, in a statement, defended the May law-enforcement operation at a steel facility in Misamis Oriental that resulted in the arrest of Chinese nationals, saying it was lawful and supported by evidence gathered through court-issued search warrants.
He cited what he said were violations involving the production of substandard, radioactively tainted steel, the dumping of polluted water, and the release of toxic emissions.

MANILA, Philippines (AP) — American special operations forces are ready to step up warfighting-readiness exercises with counterparts in the Philippines and other countries in Asia to further strengthen a security alliance and help deter a major conflict in the region, a U.S. military official said Thursday.
Adm. Frank Bradley, commander of the U.S. Special Operations Command, is in the Philippines after a trip to South Korea. He will then head to ***** an for talks with military officials.
He is the latest American military top brass to visit key Asian allies in recent weeks to reassure them of Washington's commitment to the region given the U.S. preoccupation with the war in Iran.
Bradley's command, which has about 80,000 personnel and is based at MacDill Air Force Base in Tampa, Florida, undertakes the U.S. military's most sensitive and dangerous covert operations. The majority of his forces are deployed in more than 80 countries worldwide, Bradley said.
He discussed with Filipino counterparts the Philippine military's continuing effort to modernize, intensify combat exercises with the U.S. and other allies and broaden an arc of security alliances to deter China's increasingly hostile actions in the South China Sea.

Bradley's command, which has about 80,000 personnel and is based at MacDill Air Force Base in Tampa, Florida, undertakes the U.S. military's most sensitive and dangerous covert operations. The majority of his forces are deployed in more than 80 countries worldwide, Bradley said.
He discussed with Filipino counterparts the Philippine military's continuing effort to modernize, intensify combat exercises with the U.S. and other allies and broaden an arc of security alliances to deter China's increasingly hostile actions in the South China Sea.

The Under-20 Women's World Cup will take place in Poland from 5 to 27 September. We are still waiting to see whether UEFA will boycott the tournament as part of the ongoing dispute between UEFA and FIFA. The BBC has confirmed that the French Football Federation (FFF) will take part. There has been no indication from The FA, although the England squad is preparing for the tournament with a friendly away to Portugal Under-20s this week.
As a reminder, the tournament is not part of the FIFA international calendar. That means there is no compulsory release of players, so clubs can prevent their players from attending. Emma Hayes recently hinted at the issue in relation to the United States youth national teams.
"I consider the Under-20 event the biggest platform for young players to play in," Hayes said in an exclusive interview with ESPN. "I keep thinking about so many of our players that, whether they miss the Under-17, how critical it is for them to come through the Under-20s."
France manager Philippe Joly made a similar point. "I've already picked my squad in my head, I've already decided in my head, but there may be a slight difference between what I want to do and what the clubs will allow me to do. First, we will draw up a provisional squad of 55 players and talk to their clubs to see if they would be willing to let their players take part. It's a crucial stage for knowing whether or not we'll have all our greatest ****** ets at our disposal."
