He was awarded the Kevin Black Bossier Parish ****** istant Coach Award joining an ever-growing list of quality ****** istants.
Hudson, doubtless, will be standing a little taller Friday at the Bossier Lions Club Jamboree.
"I am extremely honored to win this award," Hudson said. "This award means a lot to me as a person who grew up in Benton, a Bossier Parish kid. God has blessed me to be able to do what I love every day."
Hudson was nominated by Bearkat football coach Gary Smith.
"Marcus is very professional," Smith said. "Players love him and he is in the profession for the right reasons. He will be a successful head coach."

BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — RJ Luis Jr., a former St. John's standout who recently signed with LSU after spending time with two NBA clubs, was cleared by a court Monday evening to start practicing and potentially play for the Tigers this season.
Luis, who briefly was under contract with the Utah Jazz and Boston Celtics but never played in an NBA game, hugged LSU coach Will Wade after the ruling by East Baton Rouge Parish District Court judge Ronald R. Johnson.
After a five-hour hearing, Johnson granted the player's request for a preliminary injunction against the NCAA, which had argued Luis was unlikely to win reinstatement after leaving college to turn pro in 2025.
"This is precedent. It's monumental," said Baton Rouge-based attorney Tony Clayton, who represented Luis along with Elliot Abrams of Raleigh, North Carolina. "This allows him to go practice, go play and we'll let the legal process work itself out."
The timeline for that process was not immediately clear.

Roughly 24 hours after Judge Will Jorden granted a temporary restraining order that gave several former college student-athletes a fifth year of eligibility, LSU football and Lane Kiffin have, as of now, reaped the benefits.
Per multiple reports, LSU has earned a commitment from former Notre Dame defensive end Junior Tuihalamaka out of the transfer portal Aug. 21. Tuihalamaka was among the 16 athletes listed as plaintiffs in the petition that was filed in an East Baton Rouge Parish court Aug. 20.

Out has gone Rob Kelly, replaced by John Coleman, once of the parish of Aldershot, from where I write this and all of my missives. (And yes, it is the 'hole you're thinking of in your head.)
Like many of us fans, we're obviously thinking how this season is going to pan out and where we'll be at the end of it. I am, for my sins, one of those happy to simply have a club to support, so maybe that puts me in the camp of being less ambitious than some.
When Couhig et al took over, I felt it would be a slow burn. An evolution rather than a revolution. Exorcising the demons of Dai Yongge would take quite some time to achieve and much longer than one summer or even two.

Crystal Palace co-owner and chairman Steve Parish contacted Dwight McNeil's partner before the midfielder's move to the club on Tuesday.
McNeil has completed a move to Palace and signed a four-year contract in a swap deal that involved Brennan Johnson moving to Everton.
McNeil, 26, nearly moved to Selhurst Park in the January transfer window when Palace agreed a loan-to-buy deal.
That deal would have turned into a £20m permanent move, only for the transfer to fall through when the required paperwork could not be completed in time, even though McNeil had already passed a medical.
After the deal fell through, McNeil's partner Megan Sharpley was critical of Palace, writing on Instagram: "We live in a world where everyone is aware of how big a problem mental health is.

The Ascension Parish Little League 12U baseball team ended its journey with a 4-1 loss to Texas West in The Southwest Region Championship Game in Waco, Texas.
The Texas team jumped out to a four-run lead in the first inning, but the Louisiana team continued to battle until the final out, as noted by an AP Baseball post.
When the team departed from Gonzales to head to Waco, they were already state champions, region finalists and one of the final teams to compete for an opportunity to represent their region in Williamsport.
"These boys took an entire community on an unforgettable ride," the post read. "They represented Ascension Parish and the state of Louisiana on the regional stage with toughness, heart, sportsmanship and pride."

A judge approved a $106 million settlement Thursday that ends a yearslong legal battle over the deadly 2019 collapse of a Hard Rock Hotel that was under construction in New Orleans.
The 18-story hotel project partially collapsed in October 2019, killing three people and damaging nearby property. A grand jury ultimately decided against indicting anyone in the deadly collapse, but lawsuits were filed, including one brought by the City of New Orleans in August 2020 naming the building owners, their partners and contractors.
The various lawsuits were consolidated into one case that includes a total of 490 plaintiffs, such as injured workers and businesses affected by the collapse, against 21 defendants, according to Mark Glago, co-lead counsel for the plaintiffs. The case has been pending for more than six years, Glago noted.
The combined $106 million settlement was approved by Orleans Parish Civil District Court Judge Kern Reese on Thursday, according to Glago and Court records.
"This will be an honor to, you know, these claimants that have been through so much," Glago said of the settlement. "We are very, very happy with this $106 million."

A special prosecutor on Wednesday dismissed felony criminal charges against Louisiana Attorney General Liz Murrill, who was indicted on accusations of threatening the jobs of New Orleans officials who fought a Republican-led overhaul of courts in the heavily Democratic city.
The case was put on hold almost immediately after the July 2 indictment, when the Louisiana Supreme Court said the local court and special prosecutor did not follow procedures surrounding the indictment. The dismissal by special prosecutor Laurie White came a day after New Orleans District Attorney Jason Williams, Democratic Mayor Helena Moreno and five City Council members sent a letter urging her to drop the case.
"What I did was not a crime, it was never a crime," said Murrill, a Republican. "I think this was a malicious prosecution."
At the center of the case are deepening rifts between the state's Republican leaders and Democrats who control Louisiana's most prominent city.
Orleans Parish online court records show White submitted the letters from the elected city officials and the prosecutor to a judge before dismissing each count. The case against Murrill was then ordered "closed."

McALLEN, Texas (AP) — A nun who was taken into immigration custody last month in Texas said Thursday that she went into a cold sweat as two armed men approached her while she walked to Sunday Mass in her habit, thinking about the day's Bible readings and carrying little more than her rosary and cellphone.
"At that moment, I did not understand what was going on, what was happening to me," Sister Leticia Ugboaja said at a news conference at Our Lady of Sorrows Church in McAllen, where she spoke out for the first time since U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers arrested her on June 28.
Ugboaja's attorney says she has for years been granted protection from removal to her native Nigeria because she was likely to face torture there.
Ugboaja, 56, was released several hours after being detained while on her way to church near the U.S.-Mexico border. Parish officials' posting about her on social media brought attention to her case, and Congress members ultimately intervened on her behalf. President Donald Trump made mass deportations a central promise of his second administration, with his immigration crackdown leading to unusually aggressive tactics that have faced scrutiny.
Ugboaja, who has a check-in appointment with ICE on Tuesday, said she wanted to speak out to help others, and pleaded for people to have the chance to be heard before being taken into custody.

July 13 (Reuters) - Meta said on Monday its data center in Richland Parish, Louisiana, will expand to 5 gigawatts of compute capacity, ‌with investment in the project increasing to more than $50 billion.
The planned ‌data center, known as Hyperion, was earlier projected to deliver more than 2 gigawatts of compute capacity to support training of large language models, the technology behind tools such as ChatGPT.

The Kennedy family compound in Hyannis Port, Mass., stands as one of the most iconic properties in U.S. history.
The place was rented by patriarch Joseph P. Kennedy Sr. back in 1926 and the family added on to the property since purchasing it as the decades have gone by. Now featuring three distinct houses sitting on six acres, the property is not just a spot for scenic summer getaways, but it also serves as a family hub during huge events. After the best regular season of his still-young NBA career, the Boston Celtics have elected to extend big man Neemias Queta. And they made it official on Monday (July 6) via a release circulated to the media highlighting the Portuguese center's production. Per team policy, details of the extension have not been made public. But Queta's new extension has been reported on elsewhere, with senior ESPN reporter Shams Charania having previously shared that the Boston big has earned himself a four-year, $56 million extension.
"Queta ... appeared in 76 games (75 starts) for Boston last season, averaging career-bests of 10.2 points, 8.4 rebounds. 1.7 **** ists, and 1.3 blocks in 25.3 minutes per game," says the release. "The 26-year-old shot 65.3 percent from the field in 2025-26, ranking third in the NBA and breaking the franchise record for field goal percentage in a season (...). Queta, who finished fifth in the league in net rating last season (13.2), also became the first Celtic with at least 100 blocks, 600 rebounds, and 60 steals in a season since Robert Parish in 1990-91."

Reverend Paul Galetto says there has been a swell of enthusiasm for Pope Leo XIV across the greater Philadelphia region since his election.
"The people love having somebody who better relates to them and understands them," the leader of St. Paul Parish in the heart of South Philly told CNN this week.
So, Galetto was delighted to learn that the first American pope would be speaking live and receiving an award less than two miles from his church, on the eve of the nation's 250th birthday. A perfect fit, he argues, for this moment in the United States.
"I'm glad that the committee had the courage to select Pope Leo for the award, because if there's anybody that wants to speak about freedom, it is he," said Galetto.
On Friday, Pope Leo formally accepted the Liberty Medal from the National Constitution Center, a non-partisan non-profit located across from Independence Hall where the Declaration of Independence was signed.

Galilee Energy has commenced drilling at the Zydeco-1 well in Acadia Parish, Louisiana, marking the start of its first drilling campaign on the US Gulf Coast.
The well was officially spudded, signalling the transition from preparation and rig-up to active drilling operations, according to the company. Galilee Energy holds a 100% working interest and a 70% net revenue interest in the Zydeco Oil & Gas Project.
Initial work on Zydeco-1 involves drilling and setting 9-5/8in casing at around 2,200ft true vertical depth (TVD). Operations are set to progress with further drilling and logging through the Homeseekers B-sand.
Plans then call for the setting of 7in casing at approximately 9,319ft TVD, before advancing towards the Upper Tweedle at approximately 9,577ft TVD and the Lower Tweedle at roughly 9,975ft TVD.
The well is targeting a conventional Gulf Coast gas-condensate accumulation, with unrisked prospective resources estimated at up to 13.7 billion cubic feet of gas and 610,000 barrels of condensate.

With managers in football, it's often a case of "the King is dead, long live the King" as you trade one man at the helm for another. In this instance, Crystal Palace fans are shocked to find that the old King is very much alive, and to complete the questionable ******* ogy, has popped up at a rival castle.
With Oliver Glasner set to be the latest in the succession of Nottingham Forest managers, the reaction from Palace fans has skewed negative, to say the least. Fundamentally, it is because people care deeply. When they are indifferent to exiting coaches or players, they are unlikely to be troubled by their next destination.
Forest as Glasner's next club does carry more of an edge, and it's not because Palace fans have any particular aversion to Morgan Gibbs-White or Chris Wood. It's centred entirely around their club's owner, his links and transfer dealings with former-Palace investor John Textor and the Uefa melodrama last season that saw the club demoted to the Conference League - even if that worked out fine in May.
On a personal level, I am happy to separate the most successful manager in Palace's history from whatever he does next. For some, there is likely to be anger or disappointment, which hopefully time will heal, as it often does.
Recent history suggests that, despite any fractious dealings he may have had with Steve Parish, Evangelos Marinakis is unlikely to be quite as forgiving of runs of poor form or press conference outbursts.

McALLEN, Texas (AP) — A nun was released from immigration custody after she was arrested walking to Mass in her habit in South Texas.
Sister Leticia Ugboaja was walking to Our Lady of Sorrows Church in McAllen, Texas, just a few miles from the U.S.-Mexico border on Sunday when she was detained by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers.
The Department of Homeland Security and ICE have not responded to a request for comment since Sunday.
Parish officials posted a message on social media shortly after the arrest that gained traction in the news and led to Congress members including U.S. Rep. Monica de la Cruz intervening on Ugboaja's behalf.
The nun is part of the Daughters of Mary Mother of Mercy and volunteered as an Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion at Our Lady of Sorrows Church, according to Brenda Riojas, a spokesperson for the Diocese of Brownsville.

(NewsNation) — A sheriff from Louisiana is resigning from his position of nearly 10 years after pleading guilty to charges related to an attack at a local restaurant.
Former St. Tammany Parish Sheriff Randy Smith pled guilty to felony second-degree battery and misdemeanor disturbing the peace by public intoxication during a recent court appearance.
Court documents obtained by NewsNation local affiliate WGNO show that on May 29, Smith approached Bobby Couvillion, a podcaster who was a frequent critic of Smith, and grabbed him and pulled him to the ground, where he repeatedly hit him.
Couvillion was hospitalized with a concussion after the attack and also had dental injuries.

There were trade rumors aplenty on Tuesday, June 23, for the Boston Celtics, yet they held firm and kept the No. 27 pick in the 2026 NBA Draft, using it to select power forward Chris Cenac Jr. out of Houston University.
The first-round pick is just 19 years old and stands tall at 6-foot-11. The former five-star recruit committed to play for the Houston Cougars in 2024 and averaged 9.5 points and 7.9 rebounds per game in his freshman season spanning from 2025 to 2026. Despite his youth, he started nearly every game for the Cougars and declared for the draft in early April. He joins a long list of Celtics big men hailing from Louisiana, featuring the legendary Bill Russell, the great Robert Parish, and fan-favorite center Robert Williams III.
Cenac Jr. made a name for himself with his rebounding, as he was a double-double machine for the Coogs and used his length and athleticism to corral boards on both ends of the floor. He's not the most efficient scorer, shooting under 49 percent from the floor and averaging a little less than one 3-point make per outing.
His defensive statistics aren't remarkable either, but he has the strength and versatility to help the Celtics as a power forward or a stretch five. And if there's one thing Boston lacked during the 2026 NBA Playoffs, it was size. Philadelphia 76ers center Joel Embiid punished the C's when it mattered most and that ended up costing Boston the first round.
How Cenac Jr. fits in with his fellow Celtics bigs — including Neemias Queta, Luka Garza, and Amari Williams — remains to be seen. Perhaps he'll spend some time in Portland, Maine with the G League Celtics.

Lane Kiffin and his LSU staff know that there are diamonds under their nose in Louisiana, and the Tigers appear to have secured one of them for their 2027 recruiting class.
Four-star running back Trey Martin has committed to the program, as reported by the Lafayette Daily Advertiser. The Winnsboro native picked LSU over the likes of SEC rivals Florida and Ole Miss.
Martin was a one-man show during his junior year at Franklin Parish High School, when he rushed for 1,587 yards and scored a whopping 31 total touchdowns.
LSU has kept tabs on Martin for a little while, as the ballcarrier visited Baton Rouge in January.
Martin is the second class of 2027 running back LSU has secured in as many days. Fellow four-star running back Tre Segarra committed to the Tigers on June 16.

NEW ORLEANS (AP) — A sharply divided Louisiana Supreme Court on Monday signed off on abolishing an elected office won by a New Orleans exoneree who had spent nearly 30 years in prison for murder before his conviction was vacated.
The 4-3 decision leaves Calvin Duncan with little path forward to try ******* uming the role of Orleans Parish clerk of criminal court, a job he won in a landmark election last year before Republican lawmakers raced to eliminate the office this spring.
In a blistering dissent, the court's Democratic justices said the ruling opened the door to allowing Louisiana lawmakers to subvert the will of voters. The court’s conservative majority disagreed, writing that “this change was entirely within the authority of the legislature.”
The court also rejected the New Orleans City Council’s attempt to hold a special election, which would have given Duncan the option to run again.
“At a time when our voting rights are under unprecedented attack, this decision clarifies that if we want to live in a democracy, we have to fight for it with every tool our system of government provides,” Duncan said in a statement.

Nine inmates remain on the loose Friday afternoon after 11 escaped from a New Orleans jail in the morning, with the Orleans Parish sheriff warning that they should be considered “armed and dangerous.”
