Manchester United manager Michael Carrick reportedly does not fully trust Luke Shaw off the ball. The Red Devils left-back was below par on Sunday despite a 5-2 victory over Ipswich Town at Old Trafford. Shaw had a nightmare and was at fault for Ipswich's opener, struggling to contain Abdul Fatawu. Carrick has made the need for another left-back clear to the Man United recruitment team, and they have to sign one before tomorrow's deadline.
Shaw admitted after the game that he should have done enough to prevent the opener, and the Red Devils cannot afford having only him as their option in such a crucial position. The 31-year-old needs quality competition and not just another cover. Carrick has other players who can cover at left-back in his squad, but Man United need to sign a player capable of improving their squad. They have been linked with Newcastle United's Lewis Hall all summer, but the Magpies have no interest in selling the Englishman.
The Red Devils have just a few hours left in the transfer window to sign a top left-back. It could make all the difference for them this season, and yesterday's result should not paper over the cracks.

Juventus have reached an agreement with Tottenham Hotspur to sign midfielder Pape Matar Sarr, according to transfer reporter Fabrizio Romano.
The 'talented' Senegal international will join Juventus in a deal worth up to €30 million, starting with an initial loan that includes an option to buy.
However, the option to buy will become mandatory if certain performance-related conditions are met, such as Juventus qualifying for the Champions League and Sarr reaching set appearance targets during the campaign.
Talks between the clubs accelerated after Sarr requested a new challenge away from North London.
The midfielder faced increased competition for places under Roberto De Zerbi following the additions of moves for Mateus Fernandes and Sandro Tonali.

HENDERSON, Nev. — According to Little League Baseball, there are more than two million boys and girls from 80 countries playing Little League.
The odds of making it to the championship game of the Little League World Series is approximately 1 percent.
So here's to the 1 percenters, the Paseo Verde Little League of Henderson, Nevada, which defied the odds and made it to the final game of the season in South Williamsport, Pa. Sunday afternoon.
That Paseo Verde was defeated 11-2 by Curaçao shouldn't diminish the accomplishments of the boys and girl that started this improbable journey almost a month ago when it won its District tournament. It would win the Nevada state tourney, then go on and win the Mountain Regional, which is why you saw them in those gold and red uniforms with the lower case "M' on their caps at Lamade Stadium.
And this team was undefeated throughout and even had a 2-0 lead over Curaçao, an island nation of just over 185,000 that loves its baseball. You can see it in the exuberance displayed by its Little Leaguers on the field. They love to play the game as much as our kids from Henderson.
And if you were watching, how could you not marvel at the skill of these teams? So well schooled in fundamentals. So impressive in their mechanics and their IQ of the game. It's nice that elements like laying down a bunt, hitting a cutoff person and understanding the strike zone is not beyond the grasp of an 11- or 12-year-old. Paseo Verde turned six double plays in the LLWS.
Of course, it takes a village, as they say, to pull something like this off. In Little League, everyone is a volunteer. If you've had a kid play, you know the drill. Dads help prepare the fields before coaching. Moms man the snack shack and sit behind home plate keeping score. Grandparents, aunts and uncles keep an eye on the younger brothers and sisters. It's all about the kids, which is as it should be.
Every year, we read stories in the paper or watch a segment on local television of how the parents of the teams in Williamsport have been away from home for weeks, how they've had to take time off from work, how someone has to keep an eye on the house, arrange to get the mail, take care of the family pet. And it's the truth. There's a great deal of sacrifice involved to be part of a kid's summer baseball experience.
Same for the managers and coaches. They have families too and for them, it's no different than their players. Which is why when it ends, it's pretty painful emotionally speaking because you've invested so much in order to try and take it the distance.
But we know kids are resilient. As they return home to Southern Nevada, they'll do so as celebrities, be it at their school, their church or their neighborhood. There's probably going to be a parade for the Paseo Verde team, the United States Little League champions, and it figures to be a fun time. They'll carry memories of this amazing experience that will last a lifetime and 10, 20,

Kelly Osbourne is in a "happier place" following her split from Slipknot musician Sid Wilson, her brother Jack Osbourne has revealed.
Jack told The Sun newspaper that his sister is "living her country life, and she's just doing her thing, being a mum".
"She's in a happier place and she's got a good routine going. She's focusing on her and her son," he added.
Osbourne and Wilson parted ways back in March after four years together, with the Daily Mail reporting at the time that the former couple had "decided to call off their engagement". The duo share a three-year-old son named Sidney.
After the split, The Osbournes alum took to social media with what appeared to be a pointed message for Wilson after he was reportedly fired from Slipknot.
"Wake the f**k up and take some responsibility. I will not take your s**t anymore! I'm done," she wrote via Instagram Stories earlier this month, before deleting the message.

Denver, New England, Jacksonville, Chicago and Pittsburgh were among the NFL's biggest surprises in 2025. Carolina snuck into the playoffs on a Week 18 tiebreaker with a losing record. Many thought they'd improve, but each franchise overperformed based on early expectations and made the postseason. With that in mind, some might argue these teams are overrated entering 2026.
All six now face a harder road in 2026, whether from a brutal new schedule, an aging quarterback, injury attrition or a defense that can no longer paper over the same problems.
Here are the most overrated NFL teams that are headed for a worse win-loss record this fall.

A direct trustee-to-trustee rollover moves a pension lump sum like $812,000 into a traditional IRA with zero withholding and no current tax.
An indirect rollover triggers mandatory 20% federal withholding, and you must replace the withheld cash within 60 days or owe taxes and penalties.
SECURE 2.0 pushes the RMD start age to 73 or 75 depending on birth year, eventually forcing taxable withdrawals from the rolled-over balance.
Read More: Learn 7 ways to generate income with a $1,000,000+ portfolio (sponsor)
If your employer just dropped pension buyout paperwork on your desk and asked whether you want a monthly check for life or a one-time lump sum, there is a detail buried in the tax code that most retirees trip over right at the finish line. You can move the entire lump sum into a traditional IRA through a direct rollover, and the IRS will not collect a dime until you start taking money out. But mess up the execution, and the same move can trigger automatic withholding and a tax bill you never should have seen in the first place.

Brazilian football legend Roberto Carlos, a World Cup winner known for his fearsome free-kicks, has not converted to Islam, contrary to social media posts claiming he had switched religions. Both Carlos and his wife Souhail Al-Tahiri have refuted the claim in separate interviews since the rumours swirled.
"Brazil's Roberto Carlos is viewed as the greatest defender of all time. He has now converted to Islam," says a Bengali-language Facebook post shared on August 19, 2026.
An attached photo shows the retired World Cup winner sitting next to a woman who has her head covered with a shawl and a man who appears to be a Muslim preacher. They seem to all be looking at papers on a table in front of them.

On the Mad Money episode aired on August 26, Jim Cramer recently highlighted Salesforce, Inc. (NYSE:CRM) after a massive post-earnings rally driven by a blowout quarterly report and a major expansion of its AI partnership with Anthropic. He stated:
Look at the stock of Salesforce run. After the close, the cloud software kingpin reported a gigantic blowout quarter. Also rolled out a major expansion of their partnership with Anthropic where they'll be embedding their customer relationship management software in Anthropic's Claude. Wall Street was terrified that companies like Salesforce will be eaten alive by AI competition. But this partnership puts these worries to bed, maybe permanently.
Salesforce, Inc. (NYSE:CRM) delivered a powerful second-quarter financial report for fiscal 2027. The company posted record quarterly revenue of $11.35 billion, representing an 11% year-over-year increase. More impressively, adjusted earnings per share reached $5.90, although $2.53 per share of the result came from gains on strategic investments. Backed by surging cash flow generation and strong demand for its cloud ecosystem, management raised its full-year fiscal revenue guidance to a range of $46.1 billion to $46.4 billion.
The core catalyst behind the recent market enthusiasm is a major expansion of Salesforce, Inc.'s (NYSE:CRM) strategic alliance with Anthropic, highlighted by the introduction of "Claudeforce". The integration embeds Claude's advanced reasoning models directly into Salesforce's Agentforce platform and Slack, while launching a specialized "Salesforce in Claude" plugin featuring 37 prebuilt sales skills. By allowing sales teams to ***** yze live customer data, update pipelines, and execute governed actions natively within Claude, Salesforce, Inc. (NYSE:CRM) is bridging the gap between conversational AI and enterprise workflows. Rather than falling victim to AI disruption, the company is taking the driver's seat in how companies automate their daily work.
Despite the celebratory market reaction, structural challenges remain for the cloud software leader. While headline figures appeared strong, the year-over-year revenue growth of 11% shows a maturing SaaS profile when compared to high-flying hardware and semiconductor peers. Furthermore, a substantial portion of the company's non-GAAP earnings beat was driven by a one-time paper gain of roughly $2.6 billion from marking up its strategic investment in Anthropic; stripping out this non-operational valuation gain reveals a much tighter beat. It is also important to note that the potential margin drag from enterprise token consumption costs and execution risks could be high as Salesforce, Inc. (NYSE:CRM) works to prove customer adoption and sustained monetization of its agentic workflows.

BERLIN, Aug 29 (Reuters) - Finland's President Alexander Stubb said he did not believe Russia would risk an attack against a NATO country, telling Germany's Bild newspaper it would "make no sense" to test the resolve of the alliance.
Western officials have warned of a growing risk of Russian hybrid operations, including cyber attacks, against European countries potentially leading to a direct confrontation with the NATO alliance. German officials have said they ******* s Russia would be in a position to attack a NATO country by 2029.
"If anyone has a crystal ball like that – that's great. I simply see neither evidence nor facts to support it," he told Bild in an interview published on Saturday, adding he did not believe that Russia "would ever want to attack NATO, the world's most powerful military alliance."
Stubb, whose country joined NATO in 2023, abandoning its previous policy of neutrality following Russia's invasion of Ukraine a year earlier, said the alliance had to be prepared for any scenario but he did not believe Moscow was in a position to go to war with NATO.
He said NATO's strength in conventional weapons, missiles and nuclear weapons was too strong to attack, adding that he had intelligence information to back his ******* sment.

The Seattle Seahawks have put pen to paper. On Saturday afternoon, following their preseason finale with the Kansas City Chiefs, the Seahawks officially signed embattled former Detroit Lions cornerback Terrion Arnold. This news came via NFL insider Ian Rapoport.
News broke in mid August that Seattle was planning to sign Arnold, who is currently charged with eight felony counts of armed robbery and kidnapping. The signing was delayed as the team was awaiting word of whether or not Arnold would be immediately placed on the commissioner's exempt list. Well, that question became reality, as it was announced a few days later that he would receive that special designation while the NFL conducted its own investigation.
Arnold's status with the league has apparently not deterred the Seahawks in their desire to improve their cornerback room. Arnold is on the team, but he cannot play or even practice with his new teammates while on the commissioner's exempt list. We saw on HBO's "Hard Knocks" that general manager John Schneider sees this signing as a long term investment, hoping he can provide some much-needed reinforcements to the secondary during the playoff push.
For now, the 12th Man must be patient. Arnold's next scheduled court proceeding won't be until October 5th in Tampa, Florida. That's already a long time to wait to get a better idea when... or if... Arnold will take the field as a Seahawk.

UNLV Head coach Dan Mullen announced Thursday on a radio show that former Oklahoma and Auburn quarterback Jackson Arnold will be starting on Saturday against Memphis.
After a rough year at Auburn, Jackson Arnold hit the transfer portal and found a new home at UNLV, where he will make his start for the third team in his college career. Head coach Dan Mullen made his decision to start Arnold week zero against Memphis after the off-season quarterback competition between Arnold and former Michigan Quarterback Alex Orji.
Arnold came to the Plains in spring 2025 after two seasons at Oklahoma. There was plenty of hype around the transfer as Arnold was a five-star prospect coming out of high school in Texas. His solo season for the Tigers did not go as many had hoped. Arnold recorded 1,309 passing yards, six passing touchdowns, 311 rushing yards, and eight rushing touchdowns. He only threw two interceptions, which on paper is great, but it really came from his hesitancy to make decisions; throwing was the key reason for that low number.
Now he will be starting for a potential Group of 5 college football playoff contender in UNLV. It will be interesting to see him take the field and see if there is any development in his decision-making.

Denise Gomes may have punched her ticket to a UFC women's strawweight ***** le shot earlier this morning (Sat., Aug. 29, 2026) at UFC Shanghai LIVE on Paramount+ from inside the Shanghai Oriental Sports Center in Shanghai, China, after stifling former UFC ***** le challenger Yan Xiaonan with a powerful first-round knockout (head kick and punches).
This co-main event matchup may not have jumped off the paper for many fight fans, but it always had the potential to deliver fireworks. That's because Yan is one of the most seasoned vets on the 115-pound roster and Gomes is one of the most vicious finishers. It was a recipe for disaster and one strawweight was going to end up on the losing end. Unfortunately for Yan, that was her in front of her own home crowd.
While Yan had her moments in the first round it was all about Gomes and her ability to land hard shots at almost every turn. Yan did well to stay busy and prevent Gomes from really pulling ahead, but that all changed when Gomes unleashed a head kick with 15 seconds left on the clock. It landed flush, cracked Yan, and allowed Gomes to land a few follow-up punches to earn the knockout stoppage.
Check out the video highlights below:

Roma may decide not to replace Jayden Oosterwolde.
After the failed Fenerbahçe deal, the Giallorossi had left open the possibility of another move for a winger, but with the transfer window closing just days away, the situation appears to have changed.
According to today's newspapers, Gian Piero Gasperini's evaluation has also been influenced by the growth of Emanuele Lulli, who made a convincing debut against Fiorentina.
The youngster could provide an additional option on the right flank alongside Nahuel Molina, while on the opposite flank, the coach can count on Wesley and Devyne Rensch.
Roma could therefore decide to stick with the current wingers in the squad, possibly postponing the investment to further complete the midfield until January.

Today's sports front pages, August 29, are packed with major talking points: Kylian Mbappé is in the Madrid spotlight after his brilliant start, Barça are looking for tactical solutions after the "Flick Spirit," and Julián Álvarez's situation continues to make headlines ahead of the big Sevilla-Atlético clash.
The newspaper AS devotes its front page to Kylian Mbappé under the headline "MBAPPÉ EYES THE BALLON D'OR", highlighting the French forward's ambitions to win the individual award after his hat-trick against Real Sociedad and his performances for Real Madrid.
The big surprise of the transfer market comes from MARCA with its headline "THE SUMMER'S BLOCKBUSTER", announcing the presentation of Álvaro Morata by CD Leganés.
In the Catalan press, MUNDO DEPORTIVO praises the "FLICK SPIRIT", hailing the dynamism and collective pressing of the Blaugrana side despite not having an out-and-out No. 9.
For its part, SPORT goes a step further and states that "RAPHINHA WILL BE THE '9'" as the main alternative in the German coach's system.

The clock is ticking towards deadline day as Premier League teams race to get deals done. It's been another summer of massive spending from Premier League clubs and there's still plenty of business to be concluded before the window slams shut.
There has been more than £2.5bn spent by English clubs alone this summer, with multiple £100m+ deals, includingChelsea's £117m capture of Morgan Rogers, and Elliot Anderson's £116m transfer to Manchester City.
Expect that total to keep increasing right until the final seconds of the window, as clubs scramble for signings.
The transfer window for Premier League clubs will shut on Tuesday 1st September 2026. Clubs have until 11pm BST on deadline day to submit the required paperwork to concludetransfers.
The transfer windows in La Liga and Serie A also shut on September 1st, though with different timings. Spain's window is aligned with the Premier League, though the window shuts earlier in Italy, with an 8pm deadline.

Former Florida center Micah Handlogten has found a new home, although his return to college basketball still depends on receiving another year of eligibility.
Handlogten has committed to Ole Miss, according to multiple reports, giving the 7-foot-1-inch big man a chance to remain in the SEC after spending the past three seasons with the Gators. He entered the transfer portal in April following Florida's 2025-26 season.
One question surrounding Handlogten's eligibility is whether he signed an Exhibit 10 contract with the Utah Jazz. There are conflicting reports on whether Handlogten actually put pen to paper, which could hurt his case for a return to the college ranks.
Before coming to Florida, Handlogten spent his freshman year at Marshall, where he averaged 7.6 points, 9.8 rebounds and 2.3 blocks per game and was named the Sun Belt Freshman of the Year.
He played in all three seasons he was with the Florida Gators, but a gruesome broken leg suffered in the 2024 SEC Tournament championship game kept him out for most of the following 2024-25 season. He gave up his redshirt to return in February and help Florida's frontcourt while Alex Condon dealt with an injury.

On paper, before the 2026 college football season kicks off, the Oregon Ducks have the best offense in the Big Ten, better than USC, and maybe the whole sport. Dante Moore is primed to be the first quarterback taken in the upcoming NFL draft, and he has an embarrassment of riches to throw the ball to. The Oregon Ducks' receiver room is completely stacked with versatile weapons in Dakorien Moore, Evan Stewart, and Jeremiah McClellan. The Ducks also have two tight ends who can be better than last year's first-round draft pick, Kenyon Sadiq.
To complement that, Oregon has an elite run game once again. That sounds promising, and Oregon will be headed for offensive dominance. However, the USC Trojans have both a potential elite passing attack and run game.
Here is my hot take of the week, for game week for the USC Trojans:
Waymond Jordan and King Miller have their own case for best backfield in college football. Both backs have the potential to run for 1,000 yards. The Trojans' offensive line will be better and more experienced than last year, setting both backs up for great success.
Jayden Maiava is also set up for great success with an embarrassment of riches in pass catchers too, just like Moore. Maiava has a handful of freshman playmakers who can be special early. Mark Bowman and ***** ie Feaster will become top targets for Maiava right out of the gate. With Tanook Hines healthy now, Maiava will have his Makai Lemon replacement.

Pape Matar Sarr hasn't been seen in a Tottenham shirt since preseason and there are plenty of rumors that both he and the club are looking for an exit from N17. According to Sky Sports France's Sascha Tavolieri, the club making a late push for Sarr is none other than our good friends Nottingham Forest.
Previous rumors suggested that Sarr had preferred a move to Monaco, which as a French speaking Senegalese dude makes a ton of sense and would be a good move for him. Tavolieri writes that the Monaco interest is real, but unlikely to happen before the last week of the season and is contingent on Monaco offloading American striker Folarin Balogun first. But staying in the Premier League would have its advantages as well.
The whole kerfluffle over Morgan Gibbs-White last summer seemingly hasn't dimmed Tottenham's relationship with Forest THAT much if they're still considering a a deal. A loan plus an option isn't the best outcome for Tottenham, but it beats keeping Sarr around if he's not going to play that much, which feels like the case. Honestly, Forest wouldn't be a terrible club for Sarr to land at — he's likely going to get more playing time there and Oliver Glasner is a pretty good coach with good midfield ideas. No guarantee that Forest's mobster-boss owner Evangelos Marinakis wouldn't sack Glasner in a fit of rage after three consecutive losses, either.
Tavolieri writes that Spurs are asking €25m (£21.5m) for Sarr, which is what caused Galatasaray to back down after they offered €18m. That's well within the budgets of both Monaco and Forest (especially Forest). It could come down to where Sarr ultimately wants to go. But at this point it's looking very likely that he WILL go. Somewhere.

For the vast majority of my life, even as a retail expert who has covered the industry for over 30 years, I never thought much about supply chains outside of work. When I went to a grocery store, it nearly always had what I wanted.
During the Covid pandemic, however, supply chains became a dinner topic because our stores were running out of, or had run out of, key supplies.
In some cases, it was minor. You wanted Bounty, but had to settle for Brawny or even Viva.
When it came to toilet paper, however, that's when people really noticed, and panic buying stepped up. Americans weren't going to the bathroom more. They were not going to the office, so our supply of toilet paper wasn't geared for our quickly changing needs.
MIT supply chain expert Yossi Sheffi commented on the product shortages during the height of the pandemic in 2020.

Lazio are facing an uphill challenge in their quest to sign Juventus winger Edon Zhegrova, as Matteo Cancellieri has reportedly rejected his most keen admirers.
Earlier this week, the Kosovar international emerged as a target for the Biancocelesti, who would like to bolster their flanks after sorting out other departments by signing Alfonso Pedraza, Danilho Doekhi, Davide Frattesi, Josip Sutalo, and most recently Andrea Pinamonti.
According to La Gazzetta dello Sport (via La Lazio Siamo Noi), Lazio are hoping to acquire Zhegrova on loan with an option to buy from Juventus. The 27-year-old's current net salary is €2.5 million per year, so the Biancocelesti should be able to cover it. However, the pink newspaper insists that the arrival of the former LOSC Lille player would only be plausible if Cancellieri were to leave.
Over the past few days, the Roman winger has been linked with several Serie A clubs, with Genoa making the most concrete offer. But according to Italian journalist Damiano Er Faina, Cancellieri is refusing to join Daniele De Rossi's team.
The 24-year-old might be holding out for a more prestigious destination, like Fiorentina or Bologna, who have more ambitious projects and are aiming to fight for European slots. Perhaps he would end up reconsidering his decision if no other offers arrive, as he risks spending his campaign on the bench, since Gustav Isaksen is reportedly ahead of him in Gennaro Gattuso's pecking order.

SUAMICO – Bay Port football coach Steven Jorgensen said before the season that he wished he could celebrate wins a little more and forget losses a little easier.
His team most certainly will celebrate for a day after its Week 2 victory.
Bay Port beat Kimberly 28-13 on Aug. 27, starting the season 2-0 for the first time since 2022 and finally ending its losing streak to the Papermakers and their fifth-year coach, Chad Michalkiewicz.
The Pirates had lost the last four meetings in the series, including being held to 14 or fewer points in each of the last three games. It's the only three contests since 2022 in which Bay Port has failed to score more than 14 points.
Michalkiewicz was 6-0 against Bay Port since the alternate spring season in 2021, winning the final two showdowns of his tenure at De Pere and his first four after being hired at Kimberly in 2022.

The market has crowned Verizon the winner in its telecom peer group, but its operating report card tells a different story.
Verizon Communications (VZ) stock has delivered for investors over the past year, returning +21% and outpacing the S&P 500. That performance makes it the leader in its competitive group. But when you line up the telecom giants side-by-side, a sharp mismatch appears between the stock's rank and the company's actual business results. Has the market correctly identified a fundamental turnaround before it fully appears in the numbers, or has this stock's price simply gotten ahead of its story?
Why Is The Top-Performing Stock Not The Top Operator?
On paper, Verizon's business performance is solid, but it doesn't lead the pack. Over the last twelve months, its revenue growth ranked third among its peers. T-Mobile US, for instance, grew much faster at 9.7%, yet its stock returned -27% over the same period. That's a significant step up from rivals like AT&T, which trades at 8.3 times earnings despite posting slightly better revenue growth. The market is clearly rewarding Verizon for something that its trailing results don't fully capture, pricing its stock like a class leader while its operational report card is closer to the middle of the pack.
