An Arizona road rage killer will be resentenced after an appeals court ruled that an AI-generated video message from his dead victim was improperly aired in court.
Gabriel Paul Horcasitas was found guilty by a jury of shooting and killing Christopher Pelkey, 37, during a confrontation at a red light in 2021. He was sentenced to 10 years behind bars.
But his legal team appealed, arguing that the trial judge should not have allowed an AI video, created by Pelkey's family, to be shown in court ahead of last year's sentencing.
The Arizona Court of Appeals agreed, ruling that Horcasitas, 55, must be resentenced because the AI clip "crossed that line".
"Rather than document an event or recording a particular moment, the AI video presents a depiction of the victim and his thoughts created from the imaginings of the victim's sister," the court of appeals wrote on Wednesday.

SAO PAULO (AP) — Brazilian presidential candidate Sen. Flávio Bolsonaro is under investigation for corruption, money laundering and tax evasion for receiving millions of dollars from a disgraced banker to finance a movie about his father, former President Jair Bolsonaro.
Brazil's top court unsealed several documents late Thursday that show Sen. Bolsonaro, President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva's primary opponent, is under investigation for receiving 61 million reais ($12 million) from a banker at the center of a corruption scandal to produce an unreleased movie ******* led "The Dark Horse."
The investigation, which centers on whether the Bolsonaro family misused the funds and whether the payments were properly reported to Brazilian authorities, threatens to undermine Sen. Bolsonaro's bid for the presidency. The first round of elections is slated for Oct. 4, and the senator is locked in a tight race with Lula.
The banker, Daniel Vorcaro, who was arrested in March, is accused of defrauding many of Banco Master's 800,000 clients, including several state government pension funds, out of hundreds of millions of dollars by convincing them to make questionable investments. The scandal has engulfed several high-ranking officials in Brazil.
The allegations first became public in May. Sen. Bolsonaro has denied any wrongdoing and said Friday during a campaign event in the Amazonian city of Manaus that he was seeking private investment for the movie.

An accountant who is originally from Charlotte, North Carolina but now lives in San Francisco, Trang soaked up the atmosphere on a bright, sunny Friday morning at the 100,000-seat Melbourne Cricket Ground.
"It's been great seeing all these red jerseys," Trang said ahead of the game. "I love the mutual respect between Niners fans and Australians. We love that the Niners came a week early, and Australians feel the same way."
The 49ers arrived last week and took time in Melbourne to prepare for the game. The Rams arrived a day ahead of time.

The Australian, 31, was provisionally suspended on 4 August after a sample he submitted during the Mallorca Open in June was found to contain benzoylecgonine, a metabolite of cocaine.
Kyrgios told investigators from the International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA) that he used cocaine at a nightclub in Magaluf in the early hours of 20 June.
He played his first-round match at the Mallorca tournament two days later, losing in straight sets to compatriot Adam Walton.
The ITIA accepted he used cocaine outside of competition after consulting with an independent expert.

Per Yea Alabama, the Alabama Crimson Tide have finalized kicking roles ahead of the 2026 college football season.
A competition Alabama head coach Kalen DeBoer recently described as "extremely competitive," Conor Talty will serve as the Crimson Tide's field goal kicker this fall, as well as handle extra points. Lorcan Quinn, a transfer from Marshall who was competing with Talty during fall camp, will handle kickoffs.
Talty is entering his fourth season at Alabama, as well as his second as the Crimson Tide's primary field goal kicker. As a junior last fall, Talty made 16-of-23 field goals attempted for the Crimson Tide, while also a perfect 48-of-48 on extra points.
Quinn, a sophomore, joined the Crimson Tide this offseason following a season at Marshall where he was one of the Sun Belt's top kickers a year ago, leading the conference with 21 made field goals on 26 attempts.
Alabama will open the 2026 season at home this upcoming Saturday, Sept. 5, against East Carolina. Kickoff is set for 11 a.m. CT on ABC.

Hayden Panettiere's final PETA ad has been released, just days after her sudden death. The campaign, filmed only two weeks before she passed away, shows the actor confined to a bathtub to protest marine parks like SeaWorld. The campaign video now stands as a lasting tribute to her animal rights advocacy. PETA shared the ad on August 18, confirming the shoot took place shortly before Panettiere died at age 36.
The PETA ad has Panettiere making an emotional plea for dolphins and orcas held in captivity. She speaks directly to viewers while lying in a bathtub, visually representing the cramped tanks marine mammals endure at entertainment parks. "Can you imagine their frustration, their trauma, their depression? All that is important and crucial for their well-being is ripped away … We can end this. You and me," Panettiere says in the clip.
She continues describing what ocean life offers these animals: family bonds, deep dives to escape heat, and rain on their backs. All of that disappears when they are placed in small tanks. The campaign also includes a photo ad featuring Panettiere in the bathtub. Behind-the-scenes from that shoot are also featured in the released video.
PETA accompanied the video with a statement honoring her commitment. "Hayden Panettiere became a household name playing a hero on TV, but in real life she was a hero to animals," the organization wrote. They urged supporters to honor her memory by refusing to buy tickets to marine parks.
Panettiere's father, Skip Panettiere, confirmed his daughter's passing on Sunday. Authorities reported no signs of foul play. The actor left behind a career spanning television, film, and video games, along with a legacy of vocal animal advocacy that this final PETA ad now preserves.

In a TikTok video posted Friday, Aug. 14, the 27-year-old influencer said she and her husband, Brady Kiser, made a mistake. She also said she believes the public discussion is important because it holds people accountable.
Kiser said the moment occurred during a June trip to Mallorca, Spain. Teddy had become fussy, she explained, so she and Brady removed his life jacket for a few moments while they tried to calm him. The footage appeared in a since-deleted vacation video shared by fellow influencer Madi Curtis.
The response has been especially sensitive because Kiser's older son, Trigg, died at age 3 following a drowning in the family's backyard pool in Chandler, Arizona, in May 2025. Since returning to social media after his death, Kiser has repeatedly discussed water safety and the precautions she believes families should take around pools and open water.
"I understand this conversation. I think it is important. It holds people accountable," Kiser said. "I know that I am not perfect. I know that we make mistakes, and all I can say is that I'm sorry, and that I know we made a mistake."

Rashid Khan produced a sensational six-wicket haul as Afghanistan thrashed Ireland by 92 runs in the second ODI at Bready Cricket Club on Friday, taking a 1-0 lead in the five-match series.

After the opening ODI was abandoned without a toss due to rain, the second game was also delayed by inclement weather and eventually reduced to 47 overs per side. Afghanistan, led by Ibrahim Zadran, posted 299 for 8 before Rashid ripped through Ireland's batting line-up, bowling them out for 207 in 33.4 overs.
Asked to bat first in overcast conditions, Afghanistan initially found it difficult against Ireland's new-ball movement. Mark Adair opened with a maiden, but Jai Moondra struggled to contain Rahmanullah Gurbaz, conceding four boundaries in his first two overs.

Gurbaz briefly took Moondra apart with a six and a four in the left-arm seamer's third over, but the bowler had the last laugh when the opener attempted another big shot and holed out.

Sediqullah Atal kept the scoring moving, while Ibrahim initially played a more measured innings. Afghanistan reached 65 for 1 before the pair took control, putting together a 116-run partnership.

Ibrahim shifted gears and brought up his half-century from 52 ******* . Atal's dismissal in the 25th over ended the stand, but Ibrahim continued to anchor the innings.

The Afghanistan captain then added 43 with Rahmat Shah before both fell within two overs. But Afghanistan's spinners soon changed the game.

Rashid struck twice in quick succession to remove Balbirnie and Harry Tector, leaving Ireland in need of a substantial partnership. Carmichael and Lorcan Tucker attempted to rebuild, but their 38-run stand ended when Tucker was run out after losing track of the ball during an LBW appeal.

Carmichael followed in the next over for 62, leaving Ireland at 152 for 5.

Ben Calitz and Curtis Campher briefly threatened to revive the chase, smashing 41 runs in three overs, including five fours and two sixes. Rashid ended that ******* ault by dismissing Calitz, triggering a stunning collapse.

Ireland lost their final four wickets for just nine runs, with Rashid claiming three of them to complete remarkable figures of 6-34.

The third ODI will be played on Monday, August 10, at the Civil Service Cricket Club in Belfast.

Ireland have announced a 14-member squad for the first three ODIs of their five-match series against Afghanistan, beginning on August 5, with several first-choice players unavailable due to injuries. The selectors have opted to announce the squad only for the opening three matches, with the remaining two ODIs to be finalised after ****** sing the fitness of injured players.

One of the biggest talking points is the inclusion of Jai Moondra, who made his T20I debut against India earlier this month and impressed during Ireland's historic T20I series triumph over the reigning world champions. The youngster has now received his maiden ODI call-up and is one of two capped T20I players in the squad, alongside Ben Calitz, yet to make their 50-over international debut.

Ireland have also handed a first international call-up to medium pacer Byron McDonough. The 24-year-old enjoyed an impressive domestic campaign with Leinster Lightning, helping them win the Inter-Provincial Limited Overs Cup after claiming eight wickets in five matches. Across nine List A appearances, McDonough has picked up 15 wickets at an average of 29.33.
Captain Paul Stirling returns to lead the side after missing the recent T20I series against India through injury. However, Ireland continue to deal with a lengthy injury list, with Josh Little, Matt Hollard, Craig Young, Barry McCarthy, Jordan Neill and David Delany all unavailable due to injuries or return-to-play protocols. Cricket Ireland confirmed that the squad for the final two ODIs will be announced later, with changes possible depending on the recovery of the injured players.

The Afghanistan series will mark the first ****** ignment for newly appointed head coach Gary Wilson, who recently replaced Heinrich Malan. Former England batter Jonathan Trott will also join the Irish camp as a consultant for the first two ODIs against Afghanistan, having previously served as the Afghan national team's head coach.

The five-match series will also be Ireland's first men's bilateral ODI ****** ignment since hosting the West Indies in May 2025. The opening two matches will be played in Bready, while the remaining three fixtures will take place at Stormont.

President Donald Trump told a crowd in Michigan that the White House has ordered 250 Cadillac Escalades, the flagship sport utility vehicle in the luxury auto brand's lineup, for his presidential motorcade.
Trump revealed the purchase in a speech delivered at a General Motors testing facility in the Detroit suburb of Milford.
"The one and only Escalade," he said toward the beginning of a roughly one-hour-long address. "You know we ordered, I think, 250 Escalades, right? We ordered 250 Escalades…. We look sharp in those Escalades."

The 2026 Escalade has a manufacturer's suggested retail price starting in the low $90,000's, though upgrades take it well north of six figures. Its high-performance V-series runs about $170,000.
