This week had absolutely everything you could hope for: an upset that sent an NSL side home from the Canadian Championship, seven goals in Calgary, a stoppage-time winner in Vancouver and a Montréal side that walked away from Toronto with another clean sheet.
With the regular season moving deeper into August, every result is starting to tilt the playoff scales. Here's how the latest run of action unfolded.
Wednesday, Aug. 12 | Stade Boréale, Laval, Quebec | Canadian Championship quarterfinal
Simcoe County Rovers FC did not look like an underdog when the whistle blew. They bloomed into a team that had decided the occasion belonged to them.
Just three minutes into the match, Teagan Handley swung a corner into the box and Tia Schaffer rose above the crowd to bury a header. The early goal gave Simcoe something valuable against an experienced Montréal side: confidence.
