On Saturday, Arch Manning opened the Texas football season on a positive note.
Manning completed 74.1% of his passes while throwing for 305 yards and four touchdowns in a 59-7 win over Texas State. The senior's 305 yards were the most for a Texas quarterback in a season opener since Sam Ehlinger's 426-yard, five-touchdown outburst against UTEP in 2020.
Manning was intercepted once. He also took one sack.

What did Texas football get out of Saturday's 59-7 win over Texas State, a not-too-competitive season opener at Royal-Memorial Stadium that came down either to the Bobcats being literally out of their league or the Longhorns ready to take the country by storm. (More on that next week, though.)
Actually, the No. 5 Longhorns got quite a lot out of Saturday:
• Arch Manning was efficient and productive, threw for 305 yards and four touchdowns, completed 74% of his passes and led Texas to touchdowns on six of his seven drives on the day. He gave way to KJ Lacey (6 of 7 for 55 yards) in the third quarter. Manning looked good on deep ******* , too.
• The Horns got some big plays from both of their new running backs, including a 45-yard run and a receiving TD by Hollywood Smothers and 13- and 21-yard TD runs from Raleek Brown.
• Texas' drives went TD, TD, TD, INT, TD, TD, TD, FG and TD on the day. The Horns scored on a defensive TD in there, too.

AUSTIN, Texas — A season with high expectations gets under way for the No. 5 Texas Longhorns on Saturday against the Texas State Bobcats at Darrell K Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium in a prelude to the No. 1 Ohio State Buckeyes coming to the Forty Acres next week.
After Texas State received the opening kickoff, a touchback deep into the end zone, Texas gave up a first down on three short completions, but inflicted a tackle for loss on a second-down running play and got pressure on Bobcats quarterback Brad Jackson to force a throwaway on third down under pressure from fifth-year defensive tackle Hero Kanu.
A bad snap to the Texas State punter impacted his rhythm, leading to a shank out of bounds only 17 yards past the line of scrimmage, affording Texas favorable field position at its own 44-yard line.
Lined up in 12 personnel, the first touch went to senior running back Hollywood Smothers, who bounced the run outside behind blocks from sophomore tight end Nick Townsend and junior wide receiver Ryan Wingo, made two defenders miss in the open field, and got down the sideline for a 45-yard gain.
Two plays later, on 3rd and 5, junior wide receiver Cam Coleman beat an attempt to jam him at the line of scrimmage and left the Texas State cornerback falling to the ground on an easy six-yard touchdown catch, his first touch for the Longhorns.

Texas football opens its season with a rare meeting against Hill Country neighbor Texas State at 2:30 p.m. Saturday in Royal-Memorial Stadium.
The No. 5 Longhorns boast one of the most impressive rosters in college football. Arch Manning returns as one of the country's best and most ballyhooed quarterbacks, and Texasopened its thick wallet in the transfer portal to bolster holes on the offensive line and sign star playmakers such as receiver Cam Coleman and running backs Raleek Brown and Hollywood Smothers.
Sixth-year head coach Steve Sarkisian also overhauled the defense by firing defensive coordinator Pete Kwiatkowski and bringing in the fiery Will Muschamp, who has been dissecting SEC defenses for 25 years.
Texas State, which hasn't played Texas since a 36-0 loss in 1930, is making a jump up to the Pac-12, albeit a watered-down version of the legendary West Coast-based league following several years of conference realignment.
Read below for live scores and updates as the No. 5 Texas Longhorns take on the Texas State Bobcats Saturday at Royal-Memorial Stadium in Austin.

It's hard to believe the long, insufferable wait for college football is almost over! With Yahoo College Fantasy Football draft season in the home stretch, here are a few league-winning players to make sure you are aware of when studying for your last few drafts.
Play Yahoo's new College Fantasy Football game: Create or join a league now!
The former Elite 11 winner was battling veteran QB Austin Mack for the coveted role as HC Kalen DeBoer starting signal caller, and has now officially secured the starting job. Keep in mind DeBoer's last three quarterbacks were NFL Draft picks, with Michael Penix Jr. and Ty Simpson being selected in the top 13.
I had the opportunity to watch Keelon closely at the Elite 11 Finals, and also spoke with his personal QB coach at length about his traits. Perhaps most importantly, his QB coach said Russell's football mind and ability to process is the most developed he has ever seen out of a high school QB. That's music to my ears, and with Russell locked into the starting job, he is an incredible value considering he's been selected outside the top 20 of P4 quarterbacks up until this point. He's a certifiable steal where he's being drafted and has league-winning upside.
The Freaks List honoree has been in the lab working hard this offseason, as Scott reportedly beefed up to 223 pounds while running a jaw-dropping 4.35s 40-yard dash. NC State plays one of the easiest P4 schedules in the country, dodging ACC heavyweights Clemson, Miami, SMU and Notre Dame (honorary ACC school). He takes over the full starting job from the departed Hollywood Smothers and I expect him to eclipse Smothers' commendable 15.7 fantasy PPG. Scott has sky-scraping upside and should approach the rare pantheon of 20 PPG college fantasy football running backs this season.

DEIR AL-BALAH, Gaza Strip (AP) — Palestinian residents of war-battered Gaza fled homes and businesses as Israeli strikes and tank fire killed at least four people Monday, including two children, hospital officials said, a week after a U.S. delegation asked Israel to draw down attacks.
After evacuation warnings by Israel's military, a strike hit a building in the Bureij refugee camp in central Gaza. One family was unable to flee and a 4-year-old child was killed, according to Awda Hospital, where he was taken. His mother and sister were wounded. There was no Israeli military comment.
Israeli strikes hit three other buildings across the territory after residents said they received evacuation warnings. Some people sprinted away, with mothers carrying children, while others moved amid the rubble in wheelchairs or with canes.
Smoke rose over the already devastated landscape.
Israel's military said it carried out strikes in the Shati refugee camp in Gaza City and in Deir al-Balah after issuing warnings, targeting what it described as two Hamas weapons storage facilities inside mosques. The military did not provide evidence but said the facilities contained dozens of "Kalashnikov rifles, magazines and additional military equipment."

The Southeastern Conference recently announced its annual Preseason Coaches All-SEC team. On its roster this season were 11 Longhorns, which tied with Georgia for honorees named to this year's roster. Among Texas' first-team picks: linebacker Rasheem Biles, who joined Texas after transferring out of Pittsburgh early this past offseason; wide receiver Cam Coleman, who left Auburn for Texas via the portal earlier this year; return specialist Ryan Niblett, but as a returner; offensive lineman Trevor Goosby; and edge rusher Colin Simmons. Meanwhile, on the preason All-SEC's second-team we saw quarterback Arch Manning; offensive lineman Brandon Baker, wide receiver and running back Ryan Niblett (as an all-purpose); wide receiver Ryan Wingo; running back Hollywood Smothers; defensive back Jelani McDonald; and long snapper Trey Dubuc.
Only LSU came near Texas and Georgia's dominance of this season's preseason honoree numbers.

About two weeks after giving birth, Bridget María Chesterton was curled up on the bathroom floor, saying things that made little sense. Later, in the emergency room, she kept repeating, "What's going on?" She'd lost touch with reality.
The family eventually learned that Chesterton had postpartum psychosis, a severe mental health disorder thrust into the spotlight by the case of Lindsay Clancy, a Massachusetts woman on trial for strangling her three children. A key question is whether postpartum psychosis drove Clancy to do it.
Researchers estimate that the condition — a mental health emergency that is less common than postpartum depression — afflicts 1 to 2 out of 1,000 women after delivery. Although most who develop postpartum psychosis don't harm their children, mothers with severe cases may try to harm themselves or their kids.
If not for medication and strong family support, Chesterton said her own situation "could have gone sideways."
Chesterton bristles at online comments about the Clancy case suggesting postpartum psychosis is not a real disorder. She feels driven to raise awareness by sharing her story publicly; a poem she wrote about the experience will be published in a journal in the fall. She wants to dispel misconceptions about the widely misunderstood condition — and let families know there is hope.

Fox News's The Big Weekend Show took on the issue of postpartum depression when discussing the case of Lindsay Clancy, a nurse on trial for the murder of her three children.
"I think that this topic, I wish we had more time for it, because it's not going to get solved in five minutes, right?" host Tomi Lahren began. "It's such a gray area and so much nuance here. Now, again, it's not to say that Lindsay Clancy does not need to pay for what she did do her three children. That is a horrific tragedy, and I think there are few people who believe that she should get off scot-free for this, and I'm not one of those people who thinks that she doesn't need to pay for what she did."
Lahren continued:
I'm simply saying this: To dismiss postpartum depression as if it is a figment of the imagination, as if it is not real, as if it couldn't possibly impact women, I think is irresponsible. I think There's a discussion that needs to be had in the country about the drugs that mothers are put on, the number of drugs mums are put on, how postpartum is handled in our health care health care system, and just an overall discussion on this which so many women deal with. Now, that is a discussion that can happen simultaneously with saying that this person needs to pay for what she did to her three kids because three kids are dead.
So, I think there are few people that are dismissing the tragedy that occurred. It's more about having an honest discussion about what women go through, and perhaps trying to find a solution that doesn't fail mothers who are crying out for help. And that's what I will say on that, and I know it's polarizing, but shutting down the discussion doesn't help anybody either.

Gary Owen and DJ Vlad have apparently found the ultimate tiebreaker for two white guys in their 50s with long histories of dating Black women: compare the résumés.
During a new sit-down on VladTV, Owen and Vlad jokingly turned their relationships, marriages and blended families into a full-on "who loves Black women more" contest. The conversation started with Corey Holcomb's viral comments about dating younger women before Owen abruptly proposed a different matchup. "If we have a white guy that primarily dates Black women contest, who would win between me and you?" he asked.
First category: Black mothers of their children. Two apiece. Next: Black ex-wives. "One," Owen said. "I got two," Vlad fired back. Owen immediately had an explanation for why his single divorce should count for more: "That one was a tough divorce. That was four divorces in one, bro."
COMPLEX SHOP: Shop the brands you love, anytime and anywhere. Uncover what's next. Buy. Collect. Obsess.
Then came the category that changed the scoreboard. Asked how many Black children he has, Owen answered, "Six." Vlad had three.

Ruby Rose recently shared screenshots on social media that appear to be of texts from Hayden Panettiere. One of the apparent texts seems to refer to alleged mistreatment of Panettiere by her mother, Lesley Vogel. Panettiere died on August 16 at age 36 after suffering a cardiac arrest.
Ruby Rose recently shared a couple of screenshots on Threads from a conversation seemingly with Panettiere in which she spoke about her mother's ill treatment towards her. The text was about Rose talking to another unidentified individual, where she spoke about their respective parents. Rose wrote, "they did not act or behave like mothers." The reply reads, "I was sobbing over her cruelty yesterday thinking, my god I'm 36 and she can still cause this kind of pain. I'm her only child left and this is how she wants to handle the situation?!"
Another text from a person saved as "Hayden" on Rose's phone also showed them mentioning a potential podcast idea (via Entertainment Weekly). The message reads, "I'd love to do a podcast/anothony [sic] Bourdain show where we talk about issues and then go to the ends of the earth to find solutions."
The screenshots come amid Vogel facing backlash over her initial comments following her daughter's death. However, she recently released another statement, clarifying her complex bond with her daughter and speaking about her passing. In a statement, Vogel said, "Although my daughter and I were estranged, it was not for lack of care or love. It was due to the involvement of a toxic individual who I believe led to her death." She described her as a "beautiful and talented young woman" who became involved with the wrong person, whom she claimed the family tried to remove from her life. However, she claims they were unsuccessful (via Entertainment Tonight).
"I hope all remember Hayden for the beautiful human being inside her and her gift to the world from her time on this earth. My heart is with you, Hayden. Mama," she concluded.

(NewsNation) — A former director of the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention faults the federal government for recommending that pregnant women take mRNA vaccines during the COVID pandemic.
Dr. Robert Redfield, who headed the CDC during the pandemic, joined "Katie Pavlich Tonight" to comment on revived discussion about whether the vaccine can cause miscarriages in women early in their pregnancy.
He said he hasn't seen data establishing a link but said it made no sense to recommend the vaccine to expectant mothers.
Breaking down Republican accusations against Anthony Fauci
"I never thought we should vaccinate pregnant women. I was not in favor of that policy recommendation because the COVID vaccine did not prevent infection," Redfield said Tuesday.

Dax Shepard recently opened up about an awkward childhood memory involving his mom and an outfit she occasionally wore in public. During a recent episode of Armchair Expert, he recalled his reaction to seeing his mother in a white tank top and the attention he feared it might attract. Shepard's story was part of a wider conversation about experiences growing up with single mothers.
Dax Shepard has recalled feeling uncomfortable when his mother wore a tank top during his childhood.
The actor discussed the experience while speaking with Taron Egerton on an episode of Armchair Expert, explaining that he became particularly uneasy when other men appeared to notice his mother in public. Shepard recalled accompanying his mother to places such as the grocery store when she occasionally wore a white tank top.
"My mom has big ***** ," the host said while describing the experience. He recalled, "My mom would occasionally wear a f***ing white tank top, and I just remember like, 'Oh f*** man. We're going to the grocery store. She's in the white tank top. There's gonna be like weird dudes that just start talking to her.'"
Shepard admitted that he strongly disliked those situations, saying, "I hated it." Egerton said he experienced similar emotions while growing up with his own mother. The Rocketman star described her as an "attractive woman" and said he remembered feeling angry and inadequate when he noticed other people paying attention to her.

A$AP Rocky had an emotional dad moment after watching a milestone he never knew had been captured. During a candid interview, the rapper smiled from ear to ear after seeing unseen footage of his daughter crawling for the first time. The rapper shares daughter Rocki with Rihanna.
The "Don't Be Dumb" rapper appeared on "The Jason Lee Show", where he spoke about music, family life, and raising his three children with longtime partner Rihanna. The conversation took a heartfelt turn when host Jason Lee surprised him with a video he had never seen before.
Lee asked Rocky if he remembered the first moments with his children, including when they first walked, talked, or crawled. The host then revealed that he had been present the day his daughter Rocki crawled for the first time and played the clip for the rapper.
Rocky's face immediately lit up. "I did not know you were there that day. It's crazy. I didn't even see this video," he said with a wide smile after watching his 11-month-old daughter reach the milestone.
The proud father also opened up about how he and Rihanna balance parenting while managing demanding careers. The rapper admitted they rely on plenty of support from family and caregivers. "It's our mothers and our nannies. It's a lot of help," he explained. "I'd be lying if I told you we don't got help. We got a lot of help. You need that."

Opinion rankings are just that: opinion, but there are trends with these things, and when it comes to stadium rankings of college football programs, Ohio Stadium (affectionately known as the Horseshoe), where Ohio State plays, is generally ranked pretty highly. The architecture, the updates, the history, and how loud it gets on the banks of the Olentangy all play into the atmosphere and the perception of a stadium.
The latest of these stadium rankings comes from our mothership, USA TODAY, and a panel of four writers that ranked the top 25 college football stadiums. Some leaned into the visual appeal, some into how hard it is to play, and some into tradition, but in the end, ten staff members came up with a comprehensive 25-stadium list, and Ohio Stadium is very high on the list as you'll see below.
We go through the stadiums with the top ten first, from ten down to No. 1, then the rest of the top 25. This list will differ based on who makes it and from what part of the country it is penciled in from, but this is a more national one starting with No. 10.
What USA TODAY says:
"Florida fans singing Tom Petty's 'I Won't Back Down' before the fourth quarter might be a new tradition. It's also peak college football. The Swamp can roar with the best of them, even if the Gators haven't matched their glory years in recent seasons. Consider last season: Florida went 4-2 at home, including an upset of Texas, and 0-6 away."

Islington seems, on the surface, a family-friendly area. Parents push buggies through quiet leafy side streets of this popular neighbourhood that is also within easy reach of central London.
But this north London borough has one of the lowest fertility rates in the country and mothers are older on average here than in most other parts of the capital.
Islington is a snapshot of a trend also playing out not only in inner London but also other parts of the world.
The situation has been described by the London **** embly as an "existential challenge" for the city as a whole, so what are the reasons behind this and what can be done about it?
Keen to find out more about family life in Islington, I joined a Zip-Zap baby music class to speak to parents.

ESPN and the rest of the sports media industry were left reeling Tuesday as the Mothership ejected approximately 10 on-air talents, while pink-slipping a large contingent of behind-the-scenes staffers at NFL Network.
After speaking with multiple sources, here are my five takeaways from the layoffs, which included ESPN dropping talents such as Ryan Clark, Karl Ravech, David Lloyd, Tom Pelissero, Cam Newton, and Bart Scott:
Chairman Jimmy Pitaro made it clear that ESPN's biggest round of layoffs in three years was tied directly to Disney's acquisition of NFL Network. Anytime two companies merge, the bean counters look at who's doing what. When they find two people doing the same job—or close to it—one goes out the door.
That's what's happening as ESPN absorbs a network it competed with for over 20 years. ESPN has made "significant progress" integrating NFLN, Pitaro wrote in an internal memo obtained by Front Office Sports. But as always with mergers, it "had to make some difficult decisions," added Pitaro.
ESPN will broadcast its first-ever Super Bowl from SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles on Feb. 14, 2027. Televising a Super Bowl has been a corporate dream of ESPN's since its founding as a scrappy wannabe in 1979. ESPN management and parent company Disney are laser-focused on creating the best, most thorough Super Bowl coverage ever. Anybody on-air during what ESPN is humbly calling its "Year of the Super Bowl" will go down in company history. The competition for those choice on-air slots will be brutal.
The game announce team of Troy Aikman, Joe Buck, Lisa Salters, and Laura Rutledge are locks. Ditto for Sunday NFL Countdown regulars Mike Greenberg, Rex Ryan, Randy Moss, Alex Smith, Tedy Bruschi and Adam Schefter. And look for legendary anchor Chris Berman to play a major role as the living embodiment of ESPN's 47-year history.

Expectant mothers know that pregnancy hormones can make even the simplest moments feel incredibly emotional. Recently, a pregnant Anne Hathaway experienced this firsthand during an interview on the TODAY show. While promoting her new project, "The Odyssey", the host surprised the actress with a custom, handmade gift basket for her little one. As a result of the sweet gesture, the beloved star immediately grew emotional and shed a few joyful tears.
Anne Hathaway sat alongside her co-star, Tom Holland, wearing a beautiful, flowing dark green maxi dress that elegantly showed off her growing baby **** p. Suddenly, a crew member walked over to hand her a large woven gift basket tied with a big red ribbon.
Hathaway smiled warmly but instantly looked like she might cry as she accepted the present. "Oh, don't!" she joked, trying to hold back her emotional reaction. Indeed, the customized gifts inside were enough to make any expectant mother swell with joy.
Next, the host revealed the contents of the unique basket. Because the movie is an epic tale, the TODAY show wardrobe team created a special, hand-crocheted Trojan warrior outfit for the baby.
Specifically, the host pulled out a tiny gray crocheted helmet complete with bright red and yellow yarn trim. Hathaway gasped with delight, asking if the next piece was a matching diaper cover. The host proudly held up the tiny gray-and-yellow bottoms, confirming it was a custom-designed Trojan costume. In addition, the basket contained a long red knitted cape and a cute plush horse toy. Holland smiled and picked up the toy, admiring the detailed craftsmanship alongside Hathaway.

The 2026 Home Run Derby will take place tonight in Philadelphia. It starts at 7pm US Central time and will be shown on Netflix. For an explainer of everything you need to know about the Derby, you can read Kris Willis at the mothership here.
A few key things to note:
Jac Caglianone is participating. The large man can whack the ball really hard, so I'm hoping he can unleash his full power tonight. Would be super fun to see batting practice ******* go out ball after ball after ball. He's hit 15 home runs so far this season has a .201 ISO for power. He went on a huge hot streak in June and is capable of beating anyone in the field.
The format is changing – the timer is gone. It will be swing-based, with 20 swings allotted in round 1, 15 in round 2, and 15 in round 3. I guess the hope is that players's stamina will be pressured less.
The top 4 guys in round 1 will advance to round 2. Then we'll get two winners from round 2 to advance to the finals.

GAZA/JERUSALEM, July 4 (Reuters) - The photo depicts a blindfolded Gaza man stripped to his underwear and restrained face down on a cot while in Israeli custody.
Israel says the image is genuine and has acknowledged that the treatment it depicts "does not align" with its military's values. But it has yet to say who the man is or where he is being held.
That has added to the anguish of two Palestinian mothers, Rana Abu Nassar and Joudeh Al-Ghoul, each of whom is absolutely certain that the man being mistreated in the image is her own missing son.
In the screenshot of an Instagram post, the man's hands are bound behind his back, his right foot tied to the bottom corner of the cot. A wooden rod is bound to the back of his body, running from his right foot up to his neck. His face is mostly obscured.
